What about mics and headphones?

The Mini does not have a microphone input so what's the best way to talk, iChat, Skype, etc.? I know the Griffin iMic will work, but what's the story behind USB headset mics? Are they better and do they let you talk through a Mini?

USB headsets are a sound card chip and headset combination that plugs into the mini via the USB port.
They operate like USB external sound cards and support for them is usually available through Core Audio although your mileage may vary.
I have Logitech USB 200's which I hear are now recently discontinued and they work 100% just plugging them into the mini and not loading any additional software.

Yes, you can do all of that via Tools - Forms - More Form Options - Import Data, if you have Acrobat.
If you only have the free Reader then you can still do it, but it requires a script.

  • Conections to Audigy 2ZS for built-in case Mic and Headphon

Is ther a pinout for any place on the Audigy 2 ZS for me to connect my built-in case connectors so I can enable the Mic and Phones connectors? The cable that goes from the connectors to the mobo right now (the mobo has onboard audio) are individually labeled for channel, grd, etc. They are individual connectors and go on the really small pins typical to many of the conectors on the sound card. I disabled the onboard audio of course, but the connectors were likewise disconnected at the same time. Any help would be greatly appreciated

A way to do this with known, documented signals is to mount two stereo minijacks to a slot cover to bring the front connectors to the rear. Then use short splitters and cables to connect the line out and mic to the front.
Here's also an old post made to CL's decommissioned old-style usenet server. There is at least one signal discrepancy to be concerned about in this description:

    Hello,
I'm looking for a new soundcard to replace my on-board sound. My case, Antec P80, has two jacks on the front that allows me to connect a mic and a set of headphones...
Are there any soundblaster products that will allow me to use these two jacks?

If you're asking Creative card ... all cards with 0-pin properiatry connector onboard can do this partly (i.e. not 00% functioning) if you make DIY connection like showen on article --> http://audigy2zshowto.blogspot.com/
Perhaps some mb-integrated (onboard) SB systems from certain vendors has this connection utilized the way, as it's done with your onboard sound.

  • From hdd to ssd: what about os and all data?

    Hello everybody.
I know there are a lot of discussion about it and i read lots of them,
But maybe because english is not my first language, i have some problems in understanding the right things to do.
Also, i am pretty new with mac world as i just have my mb pro since last november.
so i hope you can help me with easy words, thanks.
here's the list of what i have:
    - MacBook Pro 2.5ghz, 4gb ram, 500gb hdd
    - os x mavericks (installed 2 days ago)
    - all my documents/photos/music in my MB Pro
    ... and:
    - crucial ssd 480gb
    - an external hd enclosure usb 3.0
    - the 17 in 1 tool kit
What do i have to do first?
And how will i transfer/install the os x from hd to ssd? or it "remains" somewhiere in my MB Pro?
I know there is a link from crucial with the procedure for removing hd and installing ssd, is this all i have to do?
Really hope you can help me... thanks in advance!
    F.

    Follow these steps:
Make certain that you have your data backed up as a precaution.
Attach the SSD to the MBP and open Disk Utility>Erase.  Format the SSD to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
Open Disk Utility>Restore and in the 'Source' field drag the internal HDD from the left hand column.
In the 'Destination' field, drag the SSD from the left hand column.
    Click on the 'Restore' button.
Depending upon the amount of data, this process may take a couple of hours.
When finished, restart your MBP holding doen the OPTION key.  The display should show the internal HDD and the external SSD (yellow in color).  Click on the SSD and if it boots the MBP, the clone has been successful.
Perform the physical swap.  Your MBP should be ready to go.  All of your data will be on the SSD exactly as it was on the HDD.
    Ciao.

  • What about CMOD and SMOD

    hi
I am satish, i want to know the user exits transactions what is SMOD and CMOD. What about the functionality of those.
I will be thankfull to all

    Hi,
CMOD is the Project Management of SAP Enhancements (i.e., SMOD Enhancements). SMOD contains the actual enhancements and CMOD is the grouping of those SMOD enhancements.
User exits (Function module exits) are exits developed by SAP. The exit is implementerd as a call to a function module. The code for the function module is written by the developer. You are not writing the code directly in the function module, but in the include that is implemented in the function module.
The naming standard of function modules for function module exits is:
    EXIT_<program name><3 digit suffix>
The call to a functionmodule exit is implemented as:
    CALL CUSTOMER.-FUNCTION <3 digit suffix>
    For Example:
The program for transaction VA01 Create salesorder is SAPMV45A
    1. If you search for CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION program SAPMV45A you will find ( Among other user exits):
    CALL CUSTOMER-FUNCTION '003'
      exporting
        xvbak   = vbak
        xvbuk   = vbuk
        xkomk   = tkomk
      importing
        lvf_subrc = lvf_subrc
      tables
        xvbfa = xvbfa
        xvbap = xvbap
        xvbup = xvbup.
The exit calls function module EXIT_SAPMV45A_003
    2. How to find user exits
Display the program where you are searching for and exit and search for CALL CUSTOMER-EXIT
If you know the Exit name, go to transaction CMOD. Choose menu Utillities->SAP Enhancements.
Enter the exit name and press enter.
You will now come to a screen that shows the function module exits for the exit.
or use this ABAP program to search for user exits :-
Finding the user-exits of a SAP transaction code
    3. Using Project management of SAP Enhancements
You want to create a project to enhance transaction VA01
    - Go to transaction CMOD
    - Create a project called ZVA01
    - Choose the Enhancement assign radio button and press the Change button
In the first column enter V45A0002 Predefine sold-to party in sales document . Note that an enhancement can only be used for 1 project. If the enhancement is allready in use, and error message will be displayed
    - Press Save
    - Press Components. You can now see that enhancement uses user exit EXIT_SAPMV45A_002.
    - Double Click on the exit.
Now the function module is displayed. Double click on include ZXVVAU04 in the function module
Insert the following code into the include: E_KUNNR = '2155'.
Activate the include program. Go back to CMOD and activate the project.
Goto transaction VA01 and create a salesorder. Note that Sold-to-party now automatically is "2155"
Kindly reward points by clicking the star on the left of reply,if it helps.

I have a digital voice recorder with a 3.5mm microphone and headphone jack and want to transfer some recorded lectures to my mac book pro.  The mac book does not have 3.5mm  jacks.  Does anyone know if a jack to USB converter would work?

Is there a pattern to the time of day or other detail that may be
traced back to a OS X system cause of this odd phenomenon?
Are there any copies of system files on any of the attached USB
external drives? Any libraries, such as iTunes, iPhoto, etc?
Once the drives are indexed by Spotlight, are their permissions
ignored by the OS X? Content, if neutral, should not affect the
wake or sleep cycle; especially if they're ignored by the OS X.
Could there be a bad cable or other component? If so that would
be a difficult process of elimination to detect it. Usually replacing
most suspect components in the USB stream (external to Macs)
is a rote way to mechanically test that idea; & not 100% sure.
Does the equipment all have a good ground to the utility or house
electrical field? An intermittent ground may affect more than sleep.
Hard to say at this point. Maybe a late-night talk radio guru on
remote viewing could peer into your situation and sleuth it out?
Sorry to have run out of ideas, but the process must be electrical
& mechanical to some extent. - Or perhaps odd software inspired.
Do you have any phone-home spyware items inside, just jumping
at the chance to spill your information? Little Snitch may help.
PS: Perhaps the computer needs to go into Apple & have a genius
or product specialist at AASP test the unit thoroughly... BlueTooth?

  • What XLR mic and USB interface do you recommend?

    Hello-
I want to record vocals and acoustic guitar in GarageBand. In the future, I also plan to get an electric guitar. So I was thinking of getting a good, basic audio interface and XLR microphone to start with. My budget is about $200-300. I don't need the very best quality, just something that is good enough for home music recordings. Do you have a recommendation?
For audio interface, I am leaning towards M-Audio's Fast Track:

I am not sure what would be a good XLR microphone for my budget.

If you don't need to record the guitar and vocals at the same time, you might want to check out the Apogee One.
Also, FWIW, you might prefer a condenser over a dynamic mic for vocals and acoustic guitar (depending on the style of vocals).

I have Dragon Dictate but did not notice until now that the earphone jack is only for listening so I cannot dictate using headphones and the mic on the computer is not good enough for that. Any ideas on how to make it work?

You are not supposed to connect a pair of speakers(as in left and right in a stereo pair)to two separate out jacks on the sound card.the place on the card where headphones/speakers with the mini jack goes is the right place.

  • What about copy and paste builds?

In Keynote 2 you can copy and paste attributes which really helps if you are doing an intense project. What would have been great was if Keynote 3 offered you to copy and paste builds as well. I have read here that you can make masters and build the... builds there but what if you want to have a certain build that can be used for let's say a text object. Is there anything like this in Keynote 3?
Just bought 5 new Keynote 2 licenses so I think it will be a while before we upgrade to number 3. I loved your post Brian about not buying anything before a Mac convention. I just never saw an update to Keynote this soon. I mean there was such a delay between the first two. Oh well you learn something new every day.
There was something about Keynote 3 becoming just a player after the trial 30 days. Has anyone heard if that "player" is available now with out the trial? And if so does it play on a PC? (grin) Because you know that would be great!
    Green with Envy,
    Adion

No, you can't copy builds unless you copy the actual object...but you can set builds on the master slide for say, the body box. Not the same thing, but it's leaps better than the old way. The media guy at my church said that feature alone was worth the price of iWork 06 as it saved about 10 min setup time off each presentation he makes.

  • After Effects and Cinema 4D but what about Carrara and Poser

I know Autodesk owns Maya, 3DS and even Softimage's/Avid's XSI.  Having said that I don't doubt that is why Adobe partnered with Cinema 4D. I am not a fan of Cinema 4D myself and would have prefered Maya, 3DS Max or even XSI over Cinema 4D for integration with After Effects but I know Autodesk would not want to partner with Adobe because their Smoke software is competiton for Adobe's AE and Premiere Combo. I think After Effects is a awesome and the fact that it has great integration with Cinema 4D is some what cool to say the least but I would like to think Adobe could have bought Poser or even Carrara from DAZ. Carrara has many great rendering features as well as hair, cloth, fluid dynamics and much more. AE should keep the Cinema 4D render engine but I think Adobe should invest in their own 3D Software for integration with After Effects as well.
Does anyone else want to see After Effects integrate with other 3D software? Cinema 4D is a nice start but it is not my first choice.

Cinema 4D was the logical choice.  It is reknowned for it's compatibility features with After Effects already.  It is the common tool of choice for many of the motion graphics designers who need 3D and After Effects.
Maybe one day we'll see a universal rendering engine that allows the use of ANY 3D software within compositing tools like After Effects.  Or maybe After Effects will become a true 3D package itself.  Until then, I'm thrilled about the C4D compatibility introduced by this upgrade.

  • K430 Front Audio (Mic and headphones)

    Hi there!
I got a k430, and I just bought an audio card because when I plug my headphones into the front panel, the sound is horrible. So I installed my Creative Sound blaster Z, and when I tried to plug the front audio cable to it, I realized it was not the same connector!! The lenovo one got more pins! How can I do to plug my front audio cable to my new audio card?
    Thank you for your help!!

Thanks, I will try these for Satellite...
None of Satellite models has drivers for Vista 32bit... one has but Realtek :(
Maybe I should install Vista 64bit ? I dont remember if previous was 64b :|

  • Is This Statement About Mics And Pres Correct?

The preamps in my audio interface increase in hiss as I raise the level. I am using a Shure SM58, which seems to need a good boost. If I had a mic that needed less boost, say a condenser, I could keep the knob on my pre lower, and decrease the noise in my track. Correct? I know it sounds silly, but I'm just figuring this stuff out. Thanks!

Yeah - the problem now is that if 20 people chip in with their opinions, you'll get 20 answers.
I don't really like to give recommendations... I like what I like, but you might not. I can tell you that the interface I use is a Fireface 800, and I absolutely love it, but I don't particularly like the pre's on it. I also have an Onyx 400F, which has great pre's, but I don't like the converters.
I've never used the Firebox, but I believe it's fairly well respected as an interface.
I use the FF800 as my main interface, and a variety of outboard pres, my favourite of which is probably the Chandler Germanium.
Do you have a dealer nearby where you could go and try various equipment? Mics are quite a personal thing, but something like a Rode NT2-A or an AT4040 would probably be a significant step up from the SM58 for not too much expense.
Hopefully others will chime in with suggestions. Good luck!

  • Buying Ipad in USA will work in Spain? What about warranty and repairs?

A friend is travelling to USA and I've asked her to bring me an Ipad Air. But before so I need to know about warranties in Spain. What happens if I need to have it fixed? Do I have to buy insurance there (as they say you have to get it at the time of buying)?
    Thanks for your help!!

As Jim just said, no. Service is available only in the country in which the iPad is purchased. You would need to take or send the iPad back to the US. The only possible exception is if the iPad is a WiFi-only model in which case Apple might honor the warranty in Spain, though I would not want to bet on it myself. I'd strongly suggest you buy the iPad in Spain.
