What about my current PDF files?...

Hi,
A couple of questions:
1. I've dozens of PDF books bought in O'reilly and Amazon book stores. Is there a way to dump my PDF files to my future iPad through iTunes or other apps?
2. How the gift card works?... I mean, if the Apple store for iPad isn't available in Belgium; should I register an USA-Apple store account's in order to buy apps with my gift card?
Thank you for your comments.

One more vote for Goodreader. I have it and have dumped about 50 ebooks and about the same number of manuals in Pdf format on the iPad. Display quality is excellent.
To use it, simply download and install the app from the app store, then when the iPad is connected to the system, launch iTunes, go to the apps tab, and scroll down to the window which indicates which apps can sync documents directly to the iPad. You can then click the 'add' button to navigate to the file on your system, or just drag and drop the file into the space in iTunes, and it will automatically sync to the iPad.
Goodreader can also handle other file types, including Word documents as long as they are not too long. Well worth .99c!

  • What about executing a .pdf or what other files from a jar?

Yesterday I started a topic for how I can use files that are situated in my project .jar file.. we discussed this problem and finally a solution has been proposed in the bellow link
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=788322&tstart=0
    and
    http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=788381&tstart=90
After all the discussions I have undrestood that we can not use File class and we should use URL to give the path of a file but what if I need to execute a PDF file by clicking an icon or button? For this either I need to used File or string of this file which does not work! it means that if I have an .jar application that wants to give a link to a .PDF file (which is situated in the same .jar file) I can not do that??
to execute this pdf. file I use:
    Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec("rundll32 url.dll,FileProtocolHandler " + getClass().getClassLoader().getResource("docs/theory.pdf").toString); //the path to the file name on stringor
Desktop.open(new File("docs/theory.pdf")));but neither works the .jar file can not find the file..
What do u propose?? does any one has any idea??
    Thanx for helping and participating

    hi!
just another suggestion.. why don't you extract the .pdf file into a temp directory, and then Call the Desktop.open(new File("docs/theory.pdf"))); , the other snap is i think OS dependent, and violate the platform independency law.
    :)

  • Currently cannot open pdf files when using firefox, but can open them in ie... have current adobe downloads..what could prevent opening pdf files such as forms on irs site using firefox

When attempting in firefox to open a pdf file such as forms on the irs site, I get a white screen with a black long oval in the center with a blue line inside the black oval. Can go to internet explorer and it works fine. Have loaded the latest adobe acrobat. Also went to firefox help and looked at add ons and plug ins and do not see anything obvious

    Hi
    What's your portal version ?
What response headers do you receive from the webcache port ? (using something like IEhttpheaders but for mozilla, maybe Firebug will help you to get them).

  • Firefox repeatedly asks me what to do with PDF files, even after I tell it to use Adobe Reader to open them.

For some reason, Firefox repeatedly asks me what to do with certain PDF files (but not all) even after I have indicated that I want it to use Adobe Reader X to open them and checked the "always use this application" box. I have gone through all of the troubleshooting steps on the Firefox support website to no avail. However, unlike what is shown in the troubleshooting section, when I go into Tools/Applications/Preferences, I do not see a listing for "Adobe Acrobat Document." Instead, there is a listing for "pdf file," which opens with "Adobe Reader"--no "(default)" or "(in Firefox)" appended.

  • Associating my current PDF files to Acrobat 10 from Acrobat 9

I am here in the forum because the stinkers at Adobe Tech Support said they could only help with CURRENT products. That's poor customer service.  I'm needing to point all my PDF files to my new Acrobat X Standard that I installed.  I removed the Acrobat 9.0 but when I go to Control Panel --> Default Programs --> Set Associations, and I choose .pdf and then click Change Program -- I do not see Acrobat X as an option to point my files to.
Is there something I'm doing wrong?
Update:  I finally got it done by searching on google.  You can open the Acrobat program, go to Edit --> Preferences --> General and click the Select Default PDF Handler button and designate it that way.

    Hi orrery66 ,
Thank you for posting on the Adobe forums. Yes, the way you chose it is also a way to select the file association for it.
However, you can also set the file association by, choose the file>Right click>Open with>choose default program>select Acrobat from the list.
If, Acrobat is not in the list, click browse and select Acrobat.ex from the install directory (E.G.C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat 11.0\Acrobat)
    Thanks,

  • What iOS apps access PDF files in the cloud?

I know Goodreader sees the cloud. What other iOS apps can see PDF files in the apple cloud?

    thelittletoad wrote:
I know Goodreader sees the cloud. What other iOS apps can see PDF files in the apple cloud?
The cloud is not really a single thing remember.  Cloud computing and cloud storage are just generic terms for distributed computing and/or storage on a network accessable service.  There are many "cloud" storage options:
    iCloud
    Dropbox
    Box.net
    SugarSync
    4Shared
    Google Drive
    Skydrive
...and the list goes on growing every day
Many apps, like Goodreader, will work with some, many or all of these, ONCE you configure your account settings in the app itself. So you can create an account with whichever service or services you wish to use, and then start using that account to move your files to and from any and all apps that allow a connection to that service.
I use box.net primarily to store my pdf files, and I then connect to them from GoodReader, PDF Expert or iAnnotate, not to mention QuickOffice, or Goodnotes, or Documents by Readdle or whatever app I choose to read/edit/markup the pdf in.
You will need to download the pdf into each and every app you wish to use it in on the iPad, as with a few exceptions, apps cannot share content.  That's why you use the cloud (meaning nothing more than, online) storage as your master location for your documents.

  • What about ISO/IEC-7816 file structure, Is this concept is not in jcard.

    Hello all,
I read out ISO/IEC 7816-4 and it tell about MF , DF, EF files which are used in smart card, i am using java card.
I am reading java card but i did not read about these file structure,
according to iso/iec-7816-4 , A4 is a INS for SELECT FILE command. In scosta if i want to save name in smart card then i do
    *1*- create MF
    *2*-create Df ( INS- E0)
*3*- create ef with record oriented structure(INS-E0)
*4* run write record command (*INS-D2*)
and now i can read this name whenever i want by using read record command.
I only want to know that if i want to record several names in java card (in java card eeprom ) then which line i need to write inside the PROCESS () method of applet.
-----------how i permanent save in smart card memory?
-----------how i read the data from perticular location or the location where name exist?
    Thanks in advance..............

    if (selectingApplet())
                   return;
// this method  is use to make a difference between select applet
    //apdu { have to call it before any apdu pass to card, this apdu is isolate to process method }
//and other apdu { here class and INS is for your choice,
// it depends how u implement it in process().amazing Umer, atleast for me really it's gr8 to have you here..
you know i am a beginner so it is sure that there would be a no. of question in my mind now!!!!!and I want to share with you for your answer as well try to get it by my own, u already help me a lot , and i would
be always thankful for this. I am posting some questions here, if you feel it is genuine question , pls reply and if
you think i am bothering you to ask such a foolish question , u dont!!!!
    QUESTION -1
As I know about architecture of any application is -
//normal java software                          java card                                  java card
                      //  1                                               2                                      3
1-            application program                        host application                           host application
    2-                     JVM                                   Applets                                       Applets
    3-              operating system                JCRE(which contain all classes, JVM ....)                 JCRE(act as a O.S too)
    4                    hardware                              Operating system                                 H/W
5                                                                        hardwareWhat do u think- case 2 is right? or 3 is!!!!!!!!!!!
    I think - case 3 is right!!!!
As i study from several sources , JCRE is complete package - it behaves as a operation system and use the functionality of component it contain. I also think if i will purchase a java card from any vendor , it would have JCRE inside it (means everthing inside it,), i only need to develop the applet according to my requirement and install it by on card installer program
QUESTION 2- what is the advantage of java card.?
    // I think.
as i read out , i got the line that it is platform independent and support multiple application. applicaton point of
view , I am agree but how it is platfrom independent. if we use java card for smart card development, then
i will purchase Java card from differnt vendor , all will provide me card with supported jcre inside it, so why
    this is advantage here?
// in case of window based application , it really make sense  because if i will make any window application with java
// i can run it in windows , linux , unix and most of os flavours, here i can see the beauty of java language.
Clear me this and add some other java card advantages, which make java card goodquestion 3-
Now I am capaple to make simple applets, so I want to check the entire java card process atleast once before
going in deep of something, I am thinking to implement prepaid card concept , i made it applet for it ,it will
contain a page with 2 text box ( 1- for recharge 2- for money deduction ) and two button , with button click i
want to select the applet and want to pass the apdu.
( a) how i can make host window application ? (i think awt will work for me? , *
i never make any java window application yet) *
( b) still i dont have any java card , i want to make it by using simulator, is it possible?
      (c) in this scenario what framework i need to study Ex. Import javacard.framework.* for making
applet or from where i need to start.regards:

  • Open a file, then close current pdf file

    Acrobat X
    XI Pro
We have some renamed documents, but other documents link to the old names.  To solve this I created a Word document with the text : OldDoc is now NewDoc.  NewDoc is a hyperlink to NewDoc on the LAN.  I then created a pdf from the Word document.
Clicking the link opens NewDoc, as it should, but I would like to close OldDoc after opening NewDoc.  I had expected that I could add execution of a menu item (File>>Close), but that only causes Acrobat to "blink", and OldDoc remains open.  Apparently the Close command is being carried out on the new document rather than the document in which the command is located.
If I try File>>Exit instead I get a message "Since one of the action [sic] results in closing a doc, the rest of the action will not be executed.  Do you want to continue?"  Then NewDoc opens.  If I click OK, OldDoc closes.  If I click Cancel, both remain open.  The result is acceptable, but of course the pop-up message is not.
If I reverse the order (close OldDoc, then try to open NewDoc) it just closes OldDoc, as I expected, but I figured it was worth a try since it doesn't work to open NewDoc first.
For what the program cost this simple action should be possible.  What am I missing?

Never heard about the crash and that does not sound normal. Be sure to do the updates to Acrobat in case that resolves the issue. You might also check the font settings in the settings file and check to ignore the error if the font can not be embedded and Distiller should use what it considers to be the closest system font.

  • Resizing a current PDF file

    How can I change a PDF setting from 8.5"w x 11h" to 8.125"w x 11.125"h with Trim as 7.875"w x 10.875"h and live area 7.375"w.10.375"h on a current Full-Page Bleed Ad?  Today is February 3, 2011 and I need a response ASAP.
    Thank you,
    Darren

    Hi Mike,
Your 11MB file is well within the file-size limits for ExportPDF, but depending on the number of pages, complexity of the file (and yours doesn't sound complex), and your connection speed, it is possible that the service is simply timing out before it can finish processing. These steps can help:
If the file already contains editable text (that is, it isn't a scanned document), try disabling OCR as outlined in this this document: How to disable Optical Character Recognition (OCR) when converting PDF to Word or Excel.
Clear the browser cache and try again.
    Try a different browser.
Let's start there. If you still can't export the file to Word, let me know and we'll take it from there.
    Best,
    Sara

  • What is the largest pdf file that iBooks can read?

I have two large maps (largest is 74MB).  They are in the iBooks library but when I try to display one, it thinks for about 10 seconds, then bombs back to the iBooks icon.  I have read a much smaller map pdf successfully.  So I'm thinking that I'm beyond iBooks' capacity.  Any thoughts?
    Thanks

Apple suggests to iBook's authors to keep the size less than 2GB iBooks Author: iBooks Store publishing overview
You may have too many apps open which doesn't leave enough RAM to open.
You may have many apps open which can possibly cause the slowdown and possibly the loss of wifi. In iOS 4-6 double tap your Home button & at the bottom of the screen you will see the icons of all open apps. Close those you are not using by pressing on an icon until all icons wiggle - then tap the minus sign. For iOS 7 users, there’s an easy way to see which apps are open in order to close them. By double-tapping the home button on your iPhone or iPad, the new multitasking feature in iOS 7 shows full page previews of all your open apps. Simply scroll horizontally to see all your apps, and close the apps with a simple flick towards the top of the screen.

  • GarageBand v.10 vs. v.6: what about all the support files?

Never used GarageBand myself, so I don't know much about it. Redoing setup of a friend's older model iMac, I install some of the iLife 2011 apps, but see that the App Store offers the latest GarageBand v.10 as a free install, so I go ahead with the latter. However, I note that the new GarageBand doesn't seem to install any of the very large array of support files that the old GarageBand did (e.g. in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand). I wonder, does the new GarageBand use any of that stuff? If so, shouldn't it appear when GB 10 is installed?
I delete the new GarageBand and install GB 6.0 from the iLife install disc; it puts the usual 1.4GB of support files in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand (and others elsewhere, I believe). I then download/install the new GB v.10 again, noting that while the GB 6.0 application file (which has now been placed in a folder labeled "GarageBand 6.0) is some ~267 MB, the new GB 10 application is 1.2GB. So does the new GB include all its support files within the application? If/when I delete GB 6.0, shall I delete all the supporting files (which I recall from previous searches are spread out in various locations)? Anybody know about this?

Thanks, léonie, for the information; very helpful. I downloaded the updater for GB 6.0.5, but the Installer told me “The version of GarageBand installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available.” Software Update / Mac App Store doesn’t show any update for any version of GarageBand.
Assuming that the presence of GB 10 prevents the Installer from seeing GB 6, I delete GB 10, pull GB 6 out of the folder where it was placed by the GB 10 installation, then Restart the iMac, and run the GB 6.0.5 Update again. Now it tells me “GarageBand 6.0 or later is required to install this update.” Uh, GarageBand 6.0 is right there in the Applications folder; it even says “GarageBand 6.0” below it.
Okay. I move GarageBand 6.0 to the Trash, and reinstall it from the iLife 11 disc, then Restart the iMac and try the GB 6.0.5 Update again. This time it works. Whew. I then download/install GB 10 again. I’ll leave it up to the iMac owner to decide where he wants to go with these.
    Thanks again.

  • What about the internet temporary files?

Hello! I'm a quite new to Mac and I would like to know if, as I used to do with my old Windows, there is the need to do some 'spring cleaning' and deleate the internet temporary files. I can't bear the idea of collecting files but also I don't know where the settings are for the span of time the computer collects these files.
    Thank you. flpd
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

    Hi flpd welcome to Mac!
    Cookies:
In Safari go to 'preferences' and then click the tab under 'security' - you'll see that you have options for cookies. You can view them, delete individual ones or remove them all.
    Cache:
Safari stores pages in it's cache. You can clear this by clicking 'safari' and 'empty cache'. You also have 'Reset Safari' that clears the cache, passwords, history, cookie and a few more other bits. Be advised though that Safari runs slower for a while immediately after you've cleared it.
There's also a program called Onyx that is free and very useful. The hyperlink's below:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
You can adjust the speed of Sarafi, run maintenance scripts and clear your user, system and kernel caches. Again, on initial boot up after emptying these caches your system will temporarily run slower until it builds up the caches again.
However the maintenance scripts are really good at keeping your system in tip top condition - just make sure that your computer is on (not asleep) as the scripts wont run.
    Hope this helps

  • So now with no DRM, what about my current library?

I have spent tons of $$ on itunes songs and would like to remove the DRMs.
    Will this be do-able? How?
    Thanks.

If a track is available as iTunes Plus, there will be no 128kbps version, so your scenario shouldn't arise unless you purchased the track this very morning. Apple released the iTunes Plus tracks the moment their agreements with the record companies allowed them to, which should be the vast majority (the rest will appear when the record companies allow and provide them). If you did purchase a DRM-equipped track this morning, then contact iTunes Store customer service and ask them if there's anything they can do for you.

  • Using Excel VBA to save PDF file as a text (plain) file?

    I'm using 8.0 Acrobat Pro.
Third party apps are not an option (I'm restricted from installing anything on my office PC).
I could simply save each PDF manually, but given the number of files this would not be practical.
The text it will output does not have to be pretty by any means (and I'm aware it won't be).
As long as I can get the PDF files in a text file format, there would be no further obstacles for me - because I would then be able to get Excel to gather-import all the data and consolidate-clean-organize everything accordingly at that point.
What's in these PDF files are simply names, numbers, and email addresses (basic office text type data stuff simple).
I wish to save them all as text files, and then use Excel to suck all the data from those newly created text files and consolidate-organize them accordingly.
The VBA module I've seen referrenced around the web is the following beneath; however, I am having no luck with it.
I keep getting the error message:
ActiveX component can't create object or  return reference to this object (Error 429)
I am running Microsoft Office 2010 | Excel (and using Adobe Acrobat Pro 8.0).
    Any help is extremely appreciated.
Here is the VB code in Excel I'm having trouble with:  What this is supposed to do is simply find the specified PDF file and save it as a Plain Txt File.
    Sub Convert_PDF_To_Text_File()
    Dim AcroXApp As Object
    Dim AcroXAVDoc As Object
    Dim AcroXPDDoc As Object
    Set AcroXApp = CreateObject("AcroExch.App")
    AcroXApp.Hide
    Set AcroXAVDoc = CreateObject("AcroExch.AVDoc")
    AcroXAVDoc.Open strPDFPath, "Acrobat"
    AcroXAVDoc.BringToFront
    Set AcroXPDDoc = AcroXAVDoc.GetPDDoc
    Dim jsObj As Object
    Set jsObj = AcroXPDDoc.GetJSObject
    jsObj.SaveAs strOutputFile, "com.adobe.acrobat.plain-text"
    AcroXAVDoc.Close False
    AcroXApp.Exit
    End Sub

one other thought is that you can create text files with a batch process inside of acrobat.  Advanced ---> Document Processing ----> Batch Processing.
Choose new sequence, give it a name
Step 1: Select Commands ----> Choose "execute javascript", then hit "Add."  Click on "Execute Javascript" that was just added on the right, then hit the edit button and toss in the script below that I grabbed from the javascript samples (also, if your docs have multiple pages you'll need to embed the for loop into another for loop that cycles through each page).  You'd also want to change the name of the saved txt file to the name of pdf you're doing it to.  It shouldn't be that hard, but I'm guessing you're probably alot more familiar with VBA then javascript which is why you're choosing to do it from excel.  I'm kind of in the same boat of having written a bunch of VBA, but not much javascript.  I highly recommend investing some time into learning acrobat scripting b/c VB does have it's limitations when it comes to messing with PDF's.

  • Must I buy something in order to share (via email etc.) an Adobe  pdf file created on my computer?

I downloaded Adobe Reader X.  I created docs in Word and saved it as a pdf file.  I tried to send the doc by email. When the doc is opened, it is gibberish.  Must I buy something for the document to be shared and read?  Is it a setting issue?  I am using this for a resume and trying to apply for jobs.  Please help.

Probably not Acrobat since he is using Reader (that is another forum). Why are you sending the DOC file if you have somehow created a PDF (like with the WORD plugin)? Usually when the results looks like gibberish it is because you used some fonts that are not on the other machine and have not embedded them in your document. Don't try to get fancy with a resume (unless maybe you are applying for some sort of advertising job), but give basic information as requested by the potential employer. A fancy style with some strange fonts may be your problem. If you had been talking about sending the PDF file (not what you said), then it is likely that the fonts are not embedded. Since you are using Reader, there is not much we can do to help you. Reader does not create or edit PDFs.
