What about my old music?

Hello,
I picked something up from a friend that made me really curious..I don't know if I understood him right. I think he said, that if u already bought a song on iTunes then there is a way to "reload" it without having to buy again.
Is that correct and if yes..how do I do it?
Greetings and thx for answers in advance.

*don't know if I understood him right. I think he said, that if u already bought a song on iTunes then there is a way to "reload" it without having to buy again.*
The only way to "reload" a song lost or deleted from your computer is to restore it from your back-up copy. The policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
If you have an iPod, the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. You'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod to a computer

  • Computer crashed...what about my ipod music

Computer crashed and have a new one. Do I lose all my pics and music when I syn to my new computer??? Can I retrieve my bought music off itunes or do I start fresh?

File menu > Transfer purchased from... only applies to music purchased from the iTunes Music Store. You'll need to authorize your new computer and sign into your account in iTunes (Store menu) first.
For other items (music not purchased online, pics), you'll need 3rd party software to transfer it back. Google for TouchCopy, iGadget, or iPodAccess. Also, note that your pics were 'optimized' to ~640x480 resolution for transfer to the iPhone, so even if you transfer them back you cannot recover the full resolution. However, if you have no other backup, low res pics are better than no pics.

  • What about us old timers!?

I have a late2006 iMac-there is now way I'm buying a new machine! Thanks bunches!

Your 2006 iMac is still functioning as well as it did when you got it. Just because it doesn't run the latest OS doesn't mean it's useless.
It's 6 years old and runs Lion.
There are third party apps available which can offer similar functionality to some of Mountain Lion's new features, Growl for notifications, Airparrot for Mirroring etc.
When you're iMac does eventually need replacing, are you going to go to a Windows based system? If so that is your choice or you can choose to get another 6+ years out of your next Mac

    No.
One of you create a new AppleID and one use the existing AppleID.
But you can still use the items in each iTunes library.
Create separate computer logins for each of you.
This will give you each your own data. Contacts, calendars, photos, etc. (and your own iTunes library).

Since your Mac probably came with 10.4, there is no longer a way to get 10.5 Leopard install media. IF it has the requirements, you may be able to upgrade to 10.6 Snow Leopard by buying the boxed install media at the Apple Store for $30.

    65mb is very little space.
It is likely that you were trying to sync more than would fit on the iPod.

  • My computer crashed. When reistalled the Itunes on my old classic I Pod my Music was not there.  What do I recover the old music and continue with my new music now.

My computer crashed.  When I reinstalled the ITunes on my computer a new version came up and I lost all 3500 songs?  Ooooch. I started downloading music from Amazon and have created a new list.  I really would like to be able to down load the new music without losing the old music.  It will not let me sync otherwise.  Please help.

Your music is stored in the iTunes folder (under pictures on a Mac or My Photos on a PC).
If you have downloaded new music, you can always copy your iTunes folder to another place (called iTunes backup or something), then restore your old iTunes folder from your backup.  The old music is gone if you don't have a backup. You have to reload it from CD or download it again (hopefully they won't charge you twice).
Once the old music is restored, make sure the newly downloaded songs are still there.  If not, copy it from the iTunes backup folder into iTunes.

  • Synchronization with different PC's.what is happening & old material erases

    Hello,
I just bought my IPOD TOUCH. but,,,,
Iam using three different pc's to download mucic and podcasts and everything.
one at home, two in work. That means i have created three different libraries.
Today for the first time, I tried to downlaoad to my IPOD THE podcasts that I downloaded to my 2st PC at work ( I had already used my 1st work pc to make my first synchronisation and i really suffered a lot until i did it). While I started to synchronise , a Message came in front of me , that I could lost the podcasts that I had in my IPOD. I ticked for YES , because i wanted desperateley to have in my newgadget this kind of podcast, and all the old ones were erased. Please keep in mind that i talk about different subscriptoins of podcasts, different themes.
there might be something to be done , when you change PCs?? . It is not logical everything old to be erased, . What about music? old music will be erased?
    photos??
thanks all of you for your answers

An iPod touch, iPhone, or iPod shuffle cannot contain content from more than one iTunes library simultaneously except for content copied to an iPod shuffle when it is being used as a flash drive.

  • Comp crashed - didnt backup songs - can i get my old music back?? =(

so i bought a new vaio - installed itunes and racked up a decent library. got the lovely "os not found" error and sent the lappy to sony. they gutted it and put in a new hard drive and now i have a new library but my old music is nowhere. most of it was on my iphone which is ALSO no longer working (i take care of my electronics, im not a scab, i dont even know what happened to that thing - made an appt for the genius bar so it can be looked at but thats beside the point...) is there ANY way i can get my music back? ive learned my lesson about not backing up my purchases. gah! i know.

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • What about HUGE libraries?

I have well over 500 GB of music, the huge majority of which is not going to be in Apple's library. If I'm lucky they'll be able to match a quarter of that.
What about the rest of it? Live recordings, rips from old LPs/45s/78s, foreign stuff that's not in the iTunes store? 5 GB of storage or 20,000 songs isn't going to scratch the surface. And are they going to try to sync 300+ GB of music onto my phone?  Do they really want me to spend months uploading all this stuff into the cloud?
And how are they going to match these files? Audio fingerprints or by tags? I don't mind getting nice 256K copies of some of the stuff that I ripped from CD at 128K--but if they are trying to replace a beloved scratchy vinyl copy of a song with a shiny digital one because the song and artist match...that's not good.
I know this is an unusual situation but I would love to know where I can find out more information about this sort of detail.

Edit: Here is what Apple says about this:
"Your purchased music, apps, and books, as well as your Photo Stream, don’t count against your free storage. That leaves your mail, documents, Camera Roll, account information, settings, and other app data. "
That seems to indicate that the 5GB is not taken up by music, whether or not it's purchased or that which falls under 'Match'.
No, that would indicate that if it is purchased from the iTunes store it does not count against the limit.
If it was not purchased from the iTunes store and does not "Match", it will count against the 5GB limit.

  • Old music still has DRM protection?

iTunes stopped placing DRM on their purchased music some few months back. Ok, so all the music I've purchased since then is DRM-free. But what about the music I bought before the change? Does it still have DRM protection? and if so, is there a way to remove it?

    Driver101801 wrote:
Ok well I just figured out that iTunes will charge you 30% of the original price to remove DRM protection from previously purchased songs. Is there a way to do it cheaper?
No. The only things that you can do with those old DRM-encumbered iTunes files are (1) play them in an Apple device or program, (2) pay to get them upgraded, or (3) use iTunes to burn them to an *audio CD* which can be used like any *audio CD.*

Spotlight lists items and shows preview images.  BUT what about showing the path/location address of an item in my computer.
Especially important if I've put the item in the wrong folder and what to locate it without multi-steps. iMac OS X 10.5 was more useful.
Old OSX Spotlight function automatically displayed path/location within the machine:  e.g. desktop/folder/sub-folder/item.
Can I make Spotlight show the path?

Press option-command and the path is displayed at the bottom of the little preview window.  Press command-return and the enclosing folder opens.
