What about the apple remote on iMac 2012?

Hi, I'll buy a new iMac 2012 but what about the apple remote? A new one will be released? Or bye bye the remote?

Yep there are some other posts already here about that and many others in the now deleted pre release board.

  • Can you use the apple remote to control tv programs?

Can you use the apple remote control like a tv remote to control tv programs & DVDs on the computer? Everything I've found about the Apple Remote talks about using it for products other than desktops. I watch some regular tv shows on my iMac & would like to be able to use a remote control.
    I have a built-in infrared receiver.
    Thanks!

You should be able to control DVD playback now with the Apple Remote. You may be able to get a bit of functionality with web sites by using Remote Buddy by using it as a virtual mouse and keyboard:
    http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/21872/remote-buddy
but you're not going to get anything close to the sort of functionality you'd get with a remote and a TV.
    Regards.

  • What about the remote?

If Front Row is no longer available with Lion then why is the Apple Store still selling the $19 remote as an accessory for the new iMac wihch I assume comes loaded with 10.7? ...  and I quote ----->
    Apple Remote
Control your Mac from afar with the sleek aluminum Apple Remote. Play, pause, adjust volume, move forward and back, and access menus while playing music and video.

You can still use the Apple remote for other things...
Boxee which is available for Mac: http://www.boxee.tv/signup http://www.boxee.tv/make
It still controls iTunes and sleeps the computer. And it is possible to (workaround) install Front Row in Lion

If you are referring to the non-panorama , but rather the flat look, well that's what they did.

  • I can't connect to my iTunes library on my Macbook Pro using the Apple Remote app on my iPhone 4S. Why?

    Hi all,
I've been looking through the forums for help with this problem. There are a couple of threads with similar problems, but no solved threads and the discussion doesn't seem to go anywhere... As far as I can tell, it's been causing a lot of annoyance for many users, including myself, but it looks like the community's in the dark about why it's happening!
I'm trying to connect to my iTunes library using the Apple Remote app on my new iPhone 4S. As you may know, there are two ways to do this:
Connect via Home Sharing by setting up Home Sharing on both iTunes and the iPhone, or
Connecting directly to iTunes using a four digit passcode.
I've tried both methods, and neither work!
Here's what happens for each method:
From the Remote app start screen, I tap the "Turn on Home Sharing" button. I enter my Apple ID details (which are definitely correct), and get a confirmation message on my phone saying "Home Sharing is on using [my email address]. To control iTunes: Choose Turn On Home Sharing from the Advanced menu in iTunes on your computer." I then go to iTunes, turn on Home Sharing, enter my Apple ID again and get a confirmation message saying "Home Sharing is now on", etc. However, there's no connection formed between my iPhone and my Macbook Pro - the Remote app just shows a message saying "Turn on Home Sharing in iTunes on your computer or on Apple TV using the account [my email address].
From the Remote app start screen, I tap "Add an iTunes Library", and the four digit passcode is shown on my phone. I select the new "Quintin's iPhone" item that appears in the iTunes sidebar under "Devices", and enter the passcode on the screen that appears. Once I've entered it, I get a confirmation message saying "Your Remote is now able to control iTunes" with an "Okay" button. Clicking the "Okay" button makes the screen and the sidebar item disappear completely. On my phone, a message that says "Looking for ..." is shown on the screen with a spinning loading wheel, but nothing happens. After a minute or two, it stops and simply says "Could not find".
After trying both methods, I went through all of the troubleshooting steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1741 . Absolutely no effect.
I should mention that I was experiencing similar problems on my old iPhone 3Gs with an older version of iTunes. I thought it might have been some kind of hardware fault and expected it to clear up once I got the new phone, but the problem is still there. It's a new phone, a new computer, a newer version an iTunes... even a different network I'm trying to connect to it on. Bizarre!
I've even tried using the Mobile Air Mouse remote application instead. However again, the Mobile Air Mouse app on my phone can't pick up the Mobile Air Mouse server on my Mac.
I'm kind of at the end of my rope here. Anyone?

I have the exact same problem trying to use the Remote app on both my iPhone 3gs and iPad 2 with either my Mac or ATV2.  My Remote app used to work on my phone - I can't recall if I ever actually used it with my iPad, but when I tried today, I got all the same results as you did (on both iPad, and then iPhone).  I  was using my ATV2 to play music from iTunes on my Mac and wanted to use the Remote app, but it would not connect to either device no matter what I did.

  • How do you get the apple remote to STOP always launching iTunes????

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I have discovered a few annoyances. The biggest one is that the Apple remote is always launching iTunes when I use it. Even when the Finder is not the target app.
I have my entire Star Trek collection on a firewire drive, and I like using VLC to watch them because of the playlist feature. Every time I use the Apple remote to try to skip to the next episode, it launches iTunes and begins playing music. This NEVER happened before in Leopard or Tiger.
I have gone through the iTunes preferences and also looked for some obscure system preference to deal with this issue, but so far, no luck.
Again, the]is NEVER happened under previous operating systems, so I'm going to assume it's a glitch in Snow Leopard.
Does anyone know what's happening here??
    Help me obi-wan.

    HI,
Open System Preferences/Security and turn Disable remote control infrared receiver.
You may have to click the gold padlock icon to do this. You will be prompted for your
    Admin password.
Also, when you come across a "bug", report it to Apple.
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/macosx.html
And it seems you are not alone...

You can try to re "Pair' the remote also.
To pair an Apple Remote with your computer:
Hold the remote close to the computer (3 to 4 inches away) and point the remote at the front of the computer.
Press and hold both the Menu and Next buttons on the remote until the paired-remote icon appears on your screen (about 5 seconds).
    To unpair an Apple Remote:
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security, and then click General.
Open the General pane of Security preferences
    Click Unpair.

  • Can I disable the apple remote when my IPT is docked?

I have the universal dock next to a mac computer, every time i use the remote to control the computer, the ipt receives the signal too. Is there a way to disable the remote? I know the computers can, what about the touch?

All good suggestions, Clint. I was going to be a smart-*** and tell you my sticker contains a cloaking device. I didn't know about the orbicule software, though. That's a nice tip.
My office desk faces a window in the front of my home. I enjoy looking out while I work. And my post was prompted by the fact that when I'm in the dim light working in there, the Apple logo is a beacon to passers by. And any good thief knows that Apples have more street value than Windows models.
I do need a new dog. The burglar entered my home from a rear window, and my 15 year old mutt has apparently retired from her role as security beacon. And my alarm system, which did it's job, likely prevented more loss. He only grabbed my laptop and a portable CD player.
I got a new MBP now, and I'm going to install Undercover, and I've ordered a Kensington cable, which I'll attach to the MPB and a chair or desk when I'm not home. That should deter any more smash and grab theft.
Word to the wise... I didn't have a password login. I had my taxes on my laptop, with my SSN, and so I've since also registered with LifeLock. I've got password log-in activated now.

  • If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server?

I have several friends and family who are looking for a central place to access information from ( Pictures, home movies etc ).  So I am considering setting up an OSX Lion Server.  There are some other things I can use it for as well.
    Here is my question:
If I were to purchase the Apple Remote Desktop with Unlimited licenses, would I be able to install the client software on each of there computers/laptops and have them remote desktop into the server?  Or would I have to install the Admin software on each?  Do they intend it to be used strictly as one admin to access many clients?
I always could set up a network drive so they can log in and just see the folders they have created with space on the server I provide them.  But I want them to be able to log an and actually use it as a Remote Desktop.
    Thanks,
    Eric

    Dave,
Thanks for the feedback.  I understand that ARD is meant for Remote Administration, but I was not sure if it could be used for my purpose as well.  The reason I was looking to do it this was was because I read several articles online about security and performance issues with setting up VNC and activating screen sharing.  Unless I am misunderstood.
As far as people's activities on the server, mostly it is going to be used as a place for them to store their media.  I will only allow own person ( Who I trust and I know wont botch the server ), to run applications.  Everyone else will be restricted to uploading and downloading content to their designated account on the server as well as a community share on the server.
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Getting the Apple Remote working with PowerPC

Is there anyway of getting the Apple Remote to work with a PowerPC PowerMac G5? On my MacBook i have Front Row and it's awesome, but i really want something like that on my desktop. There's an app called MediaCentral:
http://www.equinux.com/us/products/mediacentral/index.html that will work will all Macs so now all i need is a good remote.
I have the AirClick and it's alright, but i find it quite slow and i can't sleep the computer with it. So is it possible to get the Apple Remote working in any way?
    Cheers

Front Row first shipped with the G5 iMacs. The version on the install DVD that came with your MacBook should be a Universal Binary, and should install on your iMac.
You will need to use an app called Front Row Enabler, but that's only because Front Row checks to make sure your Mac has a built in IR receiver.

  • What is the safest way to get 2012 US Holidays on iCal?

What is the safest way to get 2012 US Holidays on iCal?

Besides being out of date, I found errors in the US holiday calendar published by Apple here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/
Instead, I've subscribed to the US calendar at this site:
    http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/holidays.html
Copy the URL weblink (http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/caldata/USHolidays.ics) for the US holidays, and use it to "subscribe" to this calendar.  Once you've subscribed, each holiday will populate your local calendar.
This US Holiday calendar is pretty good.  It includes many Christian religious holidays, as well as patriotic holidays.  There are also separate entries for Federal holidays (designated as OPM).  I find this useful since I deal with the Feds on a regular basis.
Edit:  Just found more subsciption Holiday calendars here:   http://www.calendarlabs.com/ical-calendar-holidays.php

  • Can I use the apple remote on the iPad mini or iPhone 5s?

Why won't the apple remote I just bought wont' work on my iPhone 5s or iPad mini? It works on my Mac great, but that's not where I need it! What a waste, I spent all day trying to set this up. Nothing in the manual saying it does NOT WORK ON other components. It clearly states it DOES WORK ON OTHER!  grrrr!! I even had to reinstall my backup as I accidentenly pressed "forget this device" and could not get bluetooth to work again. Not user friendly at all. Will return for refund if I cannot get it to work!

  • Where does the Apple remote go?

I was just wondering if there is a location on the aluminum iMacs where the Apple remote goes? I remember that the older iMacs had a magnetic area that it could stick to. Is this no longer the case?

I don't have any kids -- none that I know of, anyway! I'm comfortable leaving my Apple Remote on the table beside my easy chair, which is where I sit when I'm watching TV (I've got one of those EyeTV-type TV tuners so I can watch TV on my iMac). The Apple Remote works extemely well with EyeTV Lite, so I just leave the remote next to my favourite TV chair.

    Hi,
i'm a new member of this community. I've recently learn about flashback malware and other threats to Mac devices. I've installed the new Mac OS X update for Lion 10.7, and the flashback removal tool. What about the update for Flash Player? Should i install it? Otherwise, should i permanently remove this app?
    I realy need some advice.
    Thank's to all.

Be sure to install the latest version of Safari (version 5.1.7) which is available via Software Update (in the Apple menu) if you have not already installed it. This update will automatically disable older versions of Flash when new versions are available, and will instruct you on how to install the latest version on your system. This should help keep your system safe from any vulnerabilities in Flash.
Note that this is only useful if you use Safari, though other browsers have their own update mechanisms you should research and enable or configure to your liking.
