  • What graphics cards does the original Mac Pro support?

I am thinking about buying a used original 2007 Mac Pro. This Mac Pro would not come with a graphics card, so I am obviously responsible for finding one for it. I found a Radeon HD 5770 that I like on Newegg, and want to know if it would work with the Mac Pro. I really can't imagine it not, but don't want to toss a piece of hardware in my new machine that won't work.
Here's the graphics card in question: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127490
So, will it work? If not, is my only option for a 5770 the one that is available on the Apple Online Store? What other cards does this Mac Pro support?
    Thanks, guys (and gals)!

Apple's 5770 $249 for now is the 'safe' but not best in price and whether you want to run OS X ____ ? limits you also, so unless you run 10.6.5 or Lion even the 5770 is out

  • My airport card does NOT fit!

I've been searching and searching for my answer in the forums, so my apologies if the answer is already out there...
    Problem:
    I have a PowerMac G4 (firewire 800 - Mirrored Driver Doors).
I just bought an Original Airport Card that had said IN THE DESCRIPTION that the card would fit my specific computer.
However, when I received it, I found it does not fit!
I've looked at the computer manual and have seen exactly where the airport card should slide into.
BUT seems that the bracket that the card should slip into, is too small. I've now done search after search for which card that I REALLY do need, but all results say that this "original airport card" IS the one that I need. One result did say that I needed an adapter. But I dont see how an adapter would help me if the bracket is too small even for the card.
I am baffled and extremely frustrated.
Can someone be CLEAR about exactly what I need?
    -MandyZ

If it has a FW800 port on the back, it will use Airport Extreme
If it does not have a FW800 port (i.e., FW400 only), it will use regular Airport. When the original Airport cards were made and speced, the FW800 MDD G4 models had not yet been produced.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Airport Card on the blink

Hi - I have three 14" ibooks on the same airmac network. One of them, an iBook 900mhz, keeps dropping the airmac connection due to: 'unable to find airport card' error. If the computer is then turned off for sometime then it is then able to reconnect to the network, say for about 30 minutes before the connection is again dropped, and so on. The ibook is fitted with 2 extra fans for cooling and the room is about 26C. This has occurred with OS 10.3.9 and also 10.4.2. The airport card is fixed perfectly.
    Any comments of ideas welcome.
I thought the airport card may be no longer any good? Also, I tried to see the other two posts on where to by aircards of Mac (not extreme) but the 3 companies listed are for domestic US only - I need international; if anyone knows a supplier who will ship overseas that into. would be helpful.
    Thanks
    Steven, in Japan

The airport card in the iBook is still switching off without warning after some 30~40 minutes of use. If the computer is turned off for say 30 minutes then the airport card joins the net work without any problems. Two other similar iBooks on the same network have no issues.
At first I thought the problems was due to overheating in that particular iBook so I have now installed a two external cooling fan system. WHile the computer is running much cooler the Airport card is still switching off without warning intermittently.
Is there any way to test this Airport card - or does it need replacing. I have found one source of replacement cards, but I am unsure this situation will improve if the airport card is changed.

Did you look at the datasheet? You might also want to consider VI Logger where you use the newer, cheaper, higher performing M series.

  • Insttalling Airport Card - does not automatically configure

Any ideas to get a perfectly good Airport Card working? Bought new, worked fine; then had to put in other Mac to test networking. Upon putting back in the original machine, I am unable to configure properly. Thanks.

The PCI PowerMac G4 has no built-in capability to accept airport cards, except through third party PCI adapter cards, and external ethernet LAN port sharing on a WiFi access point/airport base station.
The PowerMac G5 uses a different type of airport card, and the card used in a PowerMac G5 can't be used in an AGP PowerMac G4. Starting with the PowerMac G4 Firewire 800 and PowerMac G5s Apple used Airport Extreme cards, which are not compatible with older PowerMac G4s, and the older PowerMac G4s original airport card can't be used with the newer models.
So don't try to mix and match cards unless you know they are compatible:

My apologies, I read your post the wrong way. I see now that the original poster was confused about the specs and you were simply responding with the appropriate info.
I've gotten defensive after reading the forums. The forums are full of posters just looking to prove someone wrong or stupid, rather than being helpful. I shouldn't have assumed you were one of those people. Sorry.
I did my homework and discovered that my PowerPC will run Leopard. It can be purchased for $129 by calling 1-800-MY-APPLE. This is much cheaper than replacing my laptop.
I hope to upgrade my Mac soon, though! Can't believe this thing is still ticking. I love Apple.

  • What specific type of RAM does the Power Mac 8600/200 take?

What specific type of RAM (Memory) does the Power Macintosh 8600/200 take? If known, where could I get a hard drive for that Power Mac? eBay???? Any help would be gladly appreciated!!
    Thanks,
    Sean Butler

    Sean,
Craig refered to MacGurus. Here is their website:
    http://www.macgurus.com/products/motherboards/mbppc8600.php
You will find valuable information there.
Just a word of caution. If you have G3 memory chips and chips for the 8600/9600 etc. side by side, they will look almost identical but the registration notch is 1/16 of an inch off. Do not force one into the other machine. The real easy way to distinquish the 8600 memory chip is the two odd silicon chips in the middle that are not the same as the other standard RAM chips lined up on either side. They are parity checking chips, if my memory serves me correctly. The G3 memory modules will have identical chips all the way accross.
Be sure and follow the other links like:
    http://www.macgurus.com/products/ram/edodimm.php
for a complete run down on EDO chips.

This page shows the G3, PC 100 compliant RAM chip:
    http://www.simmtester.com/page/news/showpubnews.asp?title=Isyour+Memory+Module+PC-100+Compliant%3F&num=28
The chips for the 8600 will have more space in the middle and will have two non-conforming or mismatched chips in the center.

  • Just purchased an Iphone and downloaded Itunes on my desktop...now no matter what i am doing the Itunes stores keeps opening up, anyone know how I can fix this

I just purchased an Iphone 4S and downloaded Itunes on my desktop.  Now no matter what i am doing the Itunes keeps opening open.  Anyone know how to make this stop?

actually nevermind, it's working now. I closed iTunes, then waited a little, then double clicked one of my iTunes video files from my documents, which opened up iTunes again and the video started playing. I tried restarting iTunes before and that didn't work, so maybe for those who have similar problems, just try clicking on the video file in your documents/desktop of your computer, rather than directly from iTunes.

  • Dumb question. what on earth does the fios tv button do?

what on earth does the fios tv button do?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

When you are watching a live TV show or VOD, pretty much the same thing as the OK button, it displays the program banner at the bottom of the screen.
When you are watching a recorded program on the DVR however, it will suspend whatever you are watching and switch to the live TV channel that you were last watching.(works on the DVR itself, I have no idea what it does in the multi-room environment as I do not have that service)
It does not do any of the other things that hitting the OK button does as far as I know (like navigating the Menu, etc).
That is all I know about the FiOS TV button
