What Album is a particular photo in?

On the left-hand side of iPhoto is the source list. Under the heading "Library" is the "Events" folder. In one of the Events, I have a photo that I know I assigned to an Album, but for the life of me, I cannot remember which album.
I couldn't find it by selecting "Show Photo Info", and I couldn't find it by holding down the Alt key and looking to see if some folder became highlighted (the way Groups do when selecting a Contact in Address Book).
Is there some easy way to find what album a particular photo has been assigned to?

  • How can I tell what album a photo is in.

Hi, Is it possible to be in my library and tell what album or albums a selected photo is in?
Also does anyone know the limit to the number of albums you can have?
    Thanks

    Travis:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Not really. You can create a smart albums that will show you which photos are not in any album, but I don't know of any way to do what you want to without some extra effort, i.e. create a keyword for each album and have those shown in the thumbnail view.
There's no listed limit to the number of albums that can be used. There may be a practical limit in regards to scrolling, etc.

  • Displaying which albums a particular photo is in

I have about 8000 photos in my library. Some are duplicates. I want to eliminate the duplicates but I'm not sure which of the duplicates are already in one of my albums. I don't want to delete the one that is already in an album and I don't want to go hunting through all my albums to make sure which duplicate I can safely delete.
I realize that my library is small comparatively, but going through 8K photos isn't exactly easy.
Is there a way to display which albums a particular photo is in? In itunes, if you right click on a song in the library it has an option to "show in playlist" that lists the playlists that a song is in. Is there anything like that in iphoto?
    Thanks!!

    No there isn't.

  • Finding what album photo is in

I just got a new iMac and am running iPhoto '08 (v. 7.1.2). My mistake was asking the folks at the Apple store to transfer my data from my old Mac to the new one. I specifically said I do not use iPhoto, although there are old photos in the old iPhoto, do not put any new ones in there. Well, guess what. I now have almost 7000 photos in iPhoto and I don't know which ones are old and which ones are new. I am having to go through each photo individually and see if I have the original photo in my desktop folder where I usually keep my photos.
    Here are the questions:
-When I search for a photo in iPhoto, it will show me two or three copies of the same photo. How do I find out what album these photos are in?
-Is there a way to display the file name of the photo rather than a "title" of a photo (in some cases these are different)?
-What are "Events?" Sometimes these are the names of the albums the photo is in and sometimes these seem to be configured without regard to anything.
    Thanks for your help.

but what really irks me is how the pictures are organized on the hard drive. Storing them in folders by date?
Rather missing the point there. How they are organised on the HD doesn't matter. You can organise them as you wish in the iPhoto Window. The entire point is to organise your photos not you files.
Storing them in folders by date? (I make and effort to always have the date correct on my camera but I don't always set it right away on my scanned files. And a lot of people I know have never set the date in their camera.)
But this is irrelevant. You don't access the files by rooting around in the Library Folder. That's slow and tedious. You're using a database, so use it:
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
For 10.5 users: You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Apple-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. If you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto. With 10.5 you can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
Or, if you want to access the files with iPhoto not running, then create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use THIS
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
It seems Apple has tried to make the folder structure so confusing that the user will give up and only look at their pictures in iPhoto.
This is a bit like complaining about the Folder structure in the iTunes Library. So what? You're using a Photo Manager, so use it.
That way you're locked in to the program.
No you're not in the least. Some apps - such as Aperture - read the Library to facilitate migration and for the others... File -> Export...

  • Discover what albums a photo is in?

Is there a way to see what albums a photo is in? I have found a photo in my library, but I want to find out what albums it is a member of. Can I do that? In iTunes, you can right-click a song and see what playlists it is in with the "Show in Playlist" menu. Is there a way in iPhoto? Thanks! -figz

No. iPhoto has nothing akin to the Show in Playlist from iTunes. Don't know of a way to do it other than looking in each album.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 08 libraries and Leopard. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • What album is photo in?

Is there a way to click on a photo in the library and find out what album it is in, if any?
    Thanks.

It would be cool if it was like iTunes.
You can however find images that are not in any album
    File>new smart album
    Name album "unassigned photos"
    the conditions are;
    "album" "is not" "any"
also, there is a tedious way to find out what albums a photo is in.
Write down the name of all your albums and number them from 1 - whatever.
Open up iPhoto['s preferences and make a new keyword for each number, i.e.; 1,2,3,4,5,6,7
Highlight the first album in the source column
    File>select all
Give them the number keyword for that first album
do this for all the albums.
when you are done, you can see what numbers/keywords there are for each image and know the albums they are in
    I know, it is a pain...ha

  • What happened to the thumbnail photo in an event?  Previously all I had to do was to drag the thumbnail photo to a folder, now I need to drag each individual photo to that folder.  If that means a few or several, it's a hassle. Any help for this one?

What happened to the thumbnail photos for an event?  Previously when I wanted to transfer an event to a specific folder all I needed to do was drag the thumbnail.  If there were multiple events, I only needed to pick the one I wanted and drag it.  Simple and it worked very well.  If there was an event with several, I only neede to drag the one thumbnail and it was done.  Now I need to drag each individual photo to the new folder.  Sometimes that could mean 10, 20 or more. Doing one at a time is can be a very slow process.  If there are events that need to be split, it can be even slower.  Any positive ideas will be greatly appreciated.

You need to follow iPhoto terms since we only know what you tell us
what are you calling folders - in iPhoto folders can not hold photos - albums hold photos and folders hold albums or other folders
The basic default view of photo is by event (iPhoto '08 and later)
Exactly what you you trying to do?

  • Removing the 'music note' - Can i control what album cover is displayed as the cover album under the artists tab in the Music app?

Ive searched for the longest and havent found a solution to removing the 'music note' . For example, i might have 10 albums under a particular artist, 1 of which i have no cover art for and it seems that thats the album chose to display. No matter the year or particular order the album falls in under the artist. Most artists that have a missing album cover dont show it but the ones that do still annoy me. I know im not the first to ask this so what can be done? Help me out
P.s. this is an issue ive had since the ipad 2 as the music app hasnt changed. Im running the latest software (5.1)

Its not the cover art itself, I know how to ADD album art.. Some albums just dont have cover art for whatever reason - problem is, that these albums are randomly chosen as the first album cover of an artist in the music library on my ipad. For example, i have a local artist album with no cover - he has 4 albums but the one thats diplayed at their name is of course the music note indicating theres no album artwork.
So why the **** does it choose the ONE album with no artwork and is there a way i can designate which album i want displayed for a particular artist?

  • Can you share an album without transferring the photos?

I have two Macs with ALMOST identical iPhoto Libraries. If I create an album on the iMac, is there any way to transfer the album attributes to the MacBook (which already has the photos, just not in an album)?
When I tried it through sharing, I clicked on the option to avoid duplicates, hoping it would give me the album filled with MacBook photos (identical to the iMac photos). Instead it weirdly gives me an album with, say, only 11 of sixty photos. (And those eleven are duplicates as well. No reason as I can tell for what does or does not transfer.)
Am I doing something wrong, or is this even possible?

For what it's worth, depending on the size of your library Old Toad's Tutorial #20 might be of interest. The kicker is the free size limit on the process, 2GB. Otherwise it's an easy way to keep two libraries identical automatically from either computer.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • What is maximum number of photos that will display in a slideshow

I share photos from iphoto album. What is maximum numbers of photos that will show in any one album?

If you are referring to the screensaver, it will vary but typically around 100.

  • How to start iPhoto mavericks from a particular photo (not from the beginning)

In my previous versions of iphoto I could start the slideshow from any photo, after highlighting it first. Now, I can start it only from the beginning and only if  I did not highlight any photo in the albom. If I highlight a photo and then click on ``slideshow'', it will show me this particular photo but will not play after that (even if use settings). Can I do anything about it?
My alboms are long, so to start them each time from the beginning is very inconvenient.

There's a bug with iPhoto 9.5.1 and Mavericks in that slidshows from albums only play correctly, i.e. from the first slide, with the photos sorted by date, keyword, rating or title. When sorted manually the slideshow can start5  from any seemingly random photo.

  • What do you do when photos appear on iPhoto fine with preview, but show up back with an explanation point when selected?

What do you do when photos appear on iPhoto fine with preview, but show up back with an explanation point when selected?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • What happened to the ipad photo viewer in lock screen?

What happened to the ipad photo viewer in lock screen? I updated to iOS 7.0 and nolonger have the slide show and music while in lock sreen. This was the most used feature of my iPad since I put it in a dock on my desk. Is there another way to do that.

    I 100% agree with ski-doug!!!
I use iPad 50% of the time  to play music and display photos for my customers!!!
I also have seen many a business display picture slideshows to their incoming customers without granting access to the device!
I realize many will save personal pictures to their iPads and thus they will not want easy acces to them, and they could block this feature in previous iOS.
Please, please, please Apple, DO NOT generalize and figure we are all the same!
    Please reuturn this feature!
    Sincerely...
    Monteh!
PS  It would be awesome if it could display all My Pics instead of just an album!

  • What is the difference between PHOTOS and CAMERA ROLL

I understand what CAMERA ROLL is and I understand what PHOTO STREAM is. What is PHOTOS?

Any albums that you've created directly on your iPad in the Albums tab will contain photos that are already in the Photos app - so they will also be in the Photos tab. And when you create new albums on your iPad you are effectively just creating pointers to those photos, you aren't creating separate copies of those photos, so if you 'copy' a photo from the camera roll into a new album, if you then delete that photo from the camera roll you will also be deleting all pointers to it (so it will also be removed from any albums that you've 'copied' it into).
