WHAT APPLICATION to use?

I am trying to open .wmv attachments and I get the run around with choosing application to open. Do I not have the right app? I have loaded Quicktime, PowerPoint etc?

Hi Jan!
I could be mistaken, but I think the previous link posted, is for the Trial Version, that has some limitations.
You may prefer to download this Free Version Flip4Mac - Windows Media® Components for QuickTime.
Good Luck!

  • Is there a way to see what applications is using my mobile account for internet instead of using BIS?

    HI
Is there a way or a app to download to see what applications is using my mobile account/airtime instead of using the BIS service? The reason for asking is that my airtime is being used on its own, without my knowledge. Please assist.

so if we do have the same apple id is it possible to delete if from any of the other devices or any where I can just unactivate them from my apple id account to where it would delete the message if they happened to get it?

  • How can I find out what application is using bandw...

I've noticed recently there is a constant active internet connection on my phone. If I disconnect it in connection manager it just starts again but I can't figure out which application on my phone is causing this as there is nothing running in the open applications window but I know alot of apps can hide now.
Is there any way to find out what needs this constant connection?

Hello, dear brothers in arms...I have exactly the same problem with my new Nokia C7.
It is connecting to WLAN automatically less then a minute after I disconnect it !
I have set  as follows: Menu->Settings->Connectivity -> Settings:
    Switch to WLAN: MANNUAL
Data use in home country: ALWAYS ASK
Data use when abroad: ALWAYS ASK
and however, it is trying to connect all the time.
When at home - it stays connected to my home WLAN (despite all the disconnections I make manually).
When out of coverage of my home WLAN - giving reports "Connection failed" every few minutes.
Of course the battery lasts not more then a day.
Have double checked - my email boxes are set on "Sync frequency: MANNUAL SYNC ONLY"
I did not set any application for any automatic actions...
Any idea how to control this smarty?

Get Info window is where you can change things:
Right click (Control click) on the file icon using the Finder.
Take a look at the Open with: part of the Get Info window to set the app for that file extension. Click the Change All button so all of these file types open using your preferred application.

  • On one site... FireFox always asks what application to use to open a pDF even with "Do this automatically..." select. How do I make it always use Adobe Reader for PDF files?

When I click on a PDF file it always presents the "You have chosen to open ..." dialog box. Even though it knows it is a PDF file and should use the Adobe Reader. I've checked the Tools / Options ... Application section which is set correctly as well. I've tried setting it to other aps too. yet it always asks. How do I get around this?

    Hi meunchdl,
You might want to take a look at the Knowledge Base article [[Preferences are not saved]]. There is some good information in there that might help you with your issue.

  • I need to make an A2 poster and want to know what application to use as well as knowing how to make it that size

I have been set the task in university of making an A2 poster that has to be printed, the main crux of the question is that I don't know wether i should use keynote or pages and how do I make the properties of the page A2?

Keynote for video screen based presentations,  Pages for print, thats what they are designed for.
In Pages:   File > Page Set Up: select custom sizes from the paper size drop down menu then Input the dimensions, click the plus button to add the size as a preset

  • What application to use to change an offset setting of an application?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I'm not sure where to post this exactly. I used to use ResEdit with OS9 to change these kinds of resource settings but what is used now under OS10? Thanks.

Everything you want to know about hacking the appearance of Mac OS X can be found at http://www.resexcellence.com
It currently looks as if they are deep in the midst of a site overhaul so it may be sometime before you can get to the info.

  • OSX keeps forgetting what application to use.

Every time I shut my mac down and start it up again it will forget to use certain applications for certain file types e.g. the mac will forget to use disk image mounter with dmg files or not use VLC as default on media types or forget to use itunes to open playlist files etc.
Once the mac is told to start using certain applications for certain file types it will be fine for the remainder of the session until the mac is re-started.
Any ideas on how to fix this problem?

    Hi
I see you're on OS X 10.6.5. Did this problem develop after updating or did it exist before the update? If it's the former and you updated via software update it's worth downloading the combo and re-applying the update (ideally 'repairing permission's before and after updating): http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1324
If you previously updated using the combo I'd try a couple of other simple procedures - 'repair permissions', Utilities>Disk Utility, select Macintosh HD on the left and then click on 'repair permissions'.
You could also download this utility: http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/systemdiskutilities/onyx.html
and run it, as it can be helpful in keeping your Mac running sweetly.

  • What application to use for recording audio to Tiger

I need to record audio of a 4 day conference. Can somebody recommend the best applications for this? I will plug my Mac into a mixer to get the audio and then I need to create CDs/DVDs of each session. I was thinking maybe Garage Band or Quicktime (Pro?)
    Thanks.

I think you would have stereo Left/Right RCA plugs on the mixer board output, so you would need a cable like this to go into the line-in stereo mini jack on the PB.
    http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3452165&clickid=prod_cs
If you don't have a mini-jack input, then you may need an external USB input device like the Griffin iMic. (there were some Mac models that did not have the line-in jack, I don't recall which ones.)

  • What application to use to clean a macbook pro? I heard that some will give you viruses?

I am trying to clean my MacBook Pro since I only have 114.6 GB left in HD. I tried installing that robo icon that cleans your mac but was told it could give me viruses. I am super confused. Can someone help me just clean it without giving me the run around?? Thank you

"Only" 114 GB left? That is plenty.
Whatever you do, do not download or install any product claiming to magically "clean up" or "speed up" or "optimize" your Mac. Without exception, they will do the opposite. If you already did, you found the problem. Fix it.
If you installed MacKeeper, get rid of it now. It is junk that will cause only misery. Follow the instructions to delete it with care.
Do not install such junk on a Mac. OS X already includes all the utilities it needs for you to delete unnecessary files.

That is all the maintenance a Mac requires. Really.
If you have been accustomed to using Windows, this will come as a shock to you. Get over it.

  • How do I determine what applications are communicating using SMB?

I would like to try to determine if there is a way to determine what applications are using SMB to communicate to the network. Any thoughts?

Thanks Kurt. We are attempting to find the cause of the notorious two-minute spinning beachball delay. Not sure if you are aware of this problem, but it holds up Finder, Adobe InDeisgn, and other applications for two minutes while it is waiting for a response from a windows server. It shows in the log as:
    1/4/12 3:29:25 PM
    kernel
smb_iod_sendall: Timed out waiting on the response for 0xa0 mid = 0x3b
Very frustrating. While Lion seems to have fixed the issue for some users, EMC is telling us that Lion will not play nice with the Celerra share we use.

  • What application do I use to open compressed zip files?

    Hi!
I am wondering what application I use to open a compressed zip file?
    Thanks.

Normally you just double-click on them and they open!  The application that does this is "Archive Utility".  Located in /System/Library/CoreServices .

  • What application do I use to open Ghostery?

I had successfully downloaded Ghostery to my macbook and imac.  But it "went away" after I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard.  I keep downloading it but unlike my first installation, I'm asked what application to use to open it.  What application do I use to open my downloaded Ghostery?

.xpi is the extension for Firefox extensions (add ons), not safari, which is looking for .safariextz. You are downloading the extension for the wrong browser. I did give you a link to download the safari version above.  Here it is again.
Of course if you are using FF then you have the .xpi so drop it on FF add ons window to install it in FF.
You didn't originally specify which browser you are using so I just assumed it was Safari.
And if it is neither FF or Safari then Ghostery has extensions for a wide variety of other browsers.  See here.

  • What application do you use to open windows media or real player?

I'm a new user, and It says I need to download windows media player to watch video clips from comedy central, so I downloaded the one for the macbooks, but then it says I dont have a specified application to open the media player I just downloaded. Does anyone know what application to use to open the media player? or any other player I could download where I dont need an application to open it? If anyone knows how, please write me back, thank you for helping.
    ~Cole

You can go directly to flip4mac.com, to get wmv codec for quicktime, but it only allows you to play unprotected wmv files (wmv v9 I guess).
For realvideo, there is a realvideo mac player, on real website. Just install it...
