What applications are on my iPhone?

Is there a way to programmatically determine what applications are on my iPhone?
Is there an API I can call?

Hi Windy, and welcome to the Dev Forum!

No, not legally. Of course if you just want to hack your own device, you can do a web search to find lots of ways to view and manipulate all the files on the system.
In general, licensed 3rd party iPhone apps are expected to mind their own business. But there are exceptions. For example, see [Communicating with Other Applications|http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/documentation/iPhone/Concep tual/iPhoneOSProgrammingGuide/StandardBehaviors/StandardBehaviors.html#//apple_r ef/doc/uid/TP40007072-CH4-SW26] in the +iOS Application Programming Guide+.

  • How do I determine what applications are communicating using SMB?

I would like to try to determine if there is a way to determine what applications are using SMB to communicate to the network. Any thoughts?

Thanks Kurt. We are attempting to find the cause of the notorious two-minute spinning beachball delay. Not sure if you are aware of this problem, but it holds up Finder, Adobe InDeisgn, and other applications for two minutes while it is waiting for a response from a windows server. It shows in the log as:
    1/4/12 3:29:25 PM
    kernel
smb_iod_sendall: Timed out waiting on the response for 0xa0 mid = 0x3b
Very frustrating. While Lion seems to have fixed the issue for some users, EMC is telling us that Lion will not play nice with the Celerra share we use.

  • How do i see what applications are running in the background

My iMac is running very slow my operating system is OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.2 with a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5 Processor. How do I see what applications are running in the background?

Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Reinstalling OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility and press the Continue button. After Disk Utility loads select the Macintosh HD entry from the the left side list.  Click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If Disk Utility reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit Disk Utility and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
    Alternatively, see:
Reinstall OS X Without Erasing the Drive
Choose the version you have installed now:
OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Knowing what Applications are installed

    Hi,
Coming from Windows I find it difficult to find out what applications are installed on my mac. I know I can just look in the Applications folder but I am going to be upgrading to Leopard later this week and before then I would like an easy way of listing and printing off all my currently installed applications so after the Leopard upgrade I can test out what does not work and if there's no Leopard version of an app. I can uninstalled if it's not a necessity.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks.

    HI erugalatha,
Since you are coming from Windows, FYI, where in Windows you use the Control Panel to install or uninstall programs, on a Mac, to delete an application, just drag the application folder to the Trash, then empty the Trash. Simple as that.
Also, here's a link to more information about Universal and Mac downloads:
    Universal and Mac
And, after you install Leopard, always a good idea to run Disk Utility from the Applications/Utilties folder and Repair Disk Permissions. Here is how to do that:
In Disk Utility, select the disk in the list. Click First Aid.
Click Verify Disk Permissions to test permissions or Repair Disk Permissions to test and repair permissions.

  • What application are you using for student collaboration?

The only part that is missing from iTunes University is real time student collaboration. What application are you using to bridge the gap? Thanks, Ed

Yeah, I'm not sure I know what you mean either.
Q:  If you're asking which server-side code to use on Windows IIs Servers?
A:  ASP or ASP.net and MSSql.  Since Microsoft built these languages, you would get the best support from MS Expression.
If you're asking for software that helps you write code, you'll need to be more specific about which code you want to write and for what purpose.

  • How to find out what applications are consuming a service in SR

    Hi,
How can one find out what or which all applications are consuming a particular service from Service Registry?
There is tab called Used By when we select a service from service registry. But it always shows empty.
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Best Regards,

    Problem got resolved by myself.
It will be reflected in Used By tab once an application is consumed from SR,
    Thanks.

  • Where does it say what applications are open?

Just updated to os x maverick. before I was able to swipe and see what applications i had running even if I closed the window. How do i do that now?
If I close safari but it's still running in the background how can I tell?
    thanks!

It is possible to see what apps are running from the little white light in the Dock, or by using Command Tab, which will show you what apps are open and allow you to switch to them. Mission Control will also show you what is open.
However, with increasingly fast SSDs and improved memory management, it shouldn't really matter whether you access an app by launching it or by switching to it.

  • Where do I find out what applications are available?

I can't seem to find any FAQ that explains what RIM and/or third party applications might be available and just how I'd go about installing them.  For example I would like to have an application that would:
Export my contacts from my Palm desktop (not the handheld which I've not used for years) to the handheld. I can export the Palm contacts to a .csv file so importing from .csv and/or .xls would be fine.
I take it that the Decktop Manager which comes with the handheld can't be used to manage the contact lists so I'd also like an application which mirrors the Palm Desktop functionality i.e. allows me to add, delete, modify contacts on my computer rather than the handheld.
BTW, I noticed a weather application (BBweather) but upon following links to sourceforge, found that it applies only to 7000 series devices?  So applications are dependant on the series of handheld?  Seems like third party developers would be loath the develop new apps if RIM keeps changing the groundrules.

    Welcome to the Frums
I can help you with the weather.  I use www.accuweather.com   It will give you an icon and weather updates hourly.

  • What applications are benefitted from Dual Processors

In considering G4 CPU upgrades, specifically what types of applications are most helped by dual processors vs. a single processor? Specifically with my Digital Audio, I run OS 10.4 (seldom do I do anything in classic), and do internet surfing, digital photo editing, and work in MS Office a lot. Would upgrading to a dual processor CPU be of much benefit and be worth up to 2X the cost of a single CPU?
    Thanks, Steve

In all honesty you'd probably be better off getting the fastest single-processor upgrade you can(1.6-2GHz would be optimal).
In benchmark tests, my dual-processor Mystic is close to exactly as powerful with the dual 450MHz CPUs as it is with a single 1GHz 7455 upgrade; but the faster card is brilliant during single-tasking like watching complex Flash animations & playing games, whereas the dual machine simply maxes out one slow processor with these operations and leaves me with the other to slowly do a lot of other things at the same time.
A dual 1.8 card would be brilliant, but I don't think the cost would make sense unless you quite often do complex rendering & such while surfing the Web or playing games.

  • Not a question but a complaint.  The new ITunes software doesn't support the IPhone.  It is extremely difficult to find your IPhone, what applications are on the phone and to re-sync new and updated applications.  It is focused on selling and not support.

The new ITunes software for Windows, ITunes vers. 11.0.1.12, is extemely clumsy for managing my IPhone 4.  The help material is designed for the older version so is of no use.  The interface is extremely difficult to use except for buying music or video.  I'm trying to managing updating applications and syncing with my IPhone but there I can't find a drop-down menu or anything on help that tells me how to get to the IPhone window so I can initiate a re-sync on my IPhone.  This is very frustrating because Apple is supposed to make things "intuitive" and have "good" help.  Well, it's NOT intuitive and there is NO HELP.  You need to fix this.  I mean a terrible map application and now this terrible interface.  Nothing but downhill since Jobs left us.  Just remember, we all bolted from Microsoft because of this sort of crap and we can all bolt to Android if you keep up this trend.

Ctrl + B to show the Top Menu
    View > Show Sidebar
    View > Show Staus Bar
Deactivate Search Entire Library to speed things up.
This should make managing your iPhone the same as it was before.
