What applications can open a Domain.sites2.zip file?

I am hoping someone out there in the Mac community can help me: I'm taking over a website that was created with iWeb and someone has given me what seems to be a totally unusable "zipped" version of the site. I can't make heads or tails out of it. They said that iWeb does not import files, so presumably even if I get iWeb and try to use the file, it isn't going to work. But the export function must exist for some reason, right? :-) Presumably there are other software options out there that can open this and perhaps using them I can re-export it into standard HTML?
I generally run Linux and would ideally like suggestions as to what Linux program I should use to open this...but if that's not possible, any help would be great. I really appreciate any and all help or suggestions. Thank you!

Firstly, do you have a Mac and are you using a Mac that has iWeb on it? It would seem so from your profile as you have iWeb 08 at the bottom and Mac OSX 10.6.8?
If so all you have to do with any zipped file is double click it and it will unzip, so if you double click on a zipped domain.sites file, it will unzip and you are then left with the domain.sites file.
The application that will open a domain.sites file is iWeb and only iWeb. On your Mac, all you need do is place the domain file in the same place that it normally resides which is under User/Library/Application Support/iWeb/domain.sites and then double click it and iWeb will open it.
You say that you are using iWeb 08? In this case, you need to ensure that you are using iWeb 08 or above - IWeb 09 on your own Mac so that you can open the domain file - domain files are not backward compatible.
It is correct that iWeb CANNOT import files - iWeb has no import facility for html files - it is unable to open a site that has been published being html and css.
What you have been given is the domain.sites file that iWeb most definitely can use and open - the domain file is NOT and html file and contains all the data that iWeb can use and that is why you have been sent the file because iWeb can use this file.
There is no export facility as you put it in iWeb, but there is a publish to a local folder option that is used to publish your site and then upload it to a server.
Generally, iWeb sites do not import well into other programmes so if you want to do this, then it would be best to re-build the site using another programme, but if you have a Mac running iWeb, then just double click on the zipped file and it will open it and iWeb will then open the domain.sites file.

You're probably getting an incomplete download. Apple's servers are jammed with people trying to download the new version of iTunes and iOS, so the download is probably breaking before it finishes. Try downloading later, or perhaps tomorrow, when the initial rush calms down and see if you have better results.

Opened a bogus email *.zip file from amazon that put two files in my downloads folder OSX 10.8

Can anyone advise my next steps to take, I accidentally opened a bogus email *.zip file attachment from 'Amazon" It unzipped an put two files in my downloads folder one appeared to be a *.exe file. They were deleted immediately along with the email.
Now I am terrified that there is something lurking on my system...trojan/ keylogger/ virus..
I am no expert so can anyone give me help!
My mac is 8 months old running OSX 10.8 with latest updates.

Thank you both, you have put my mind at rest.
Normally I am red hot at intercepting bogus emails, not today it would appear!
I actually was in the process of deleting it and double clicked the file by complete accident, and in a flash it had opened up and put the files in the folder, I spent the rest of the afternoon panicing and reading all forums blogs etc..
Actually Thomas I found your blog and took some good tips from it, one of them was to switch java off immediately.

How to open projects within a zip file?

Is there any way to use the open project feature to open projects within a zip file loaded onto a LMS? I have several files loaded in a zip file and I would like to navigate to each one within the zip file itself. The problem that I see is that it does not know where to look. Within the zip file, there is a main menu file that is used to branch out to another project file and then the user will go back to the main file to navigate to another. I know this seems complicated, but I am being asked to see if this is possible.

A zipped SCORM package is always unzipped on the LMS server after upload. So you need to look at the file and folder structure of the SCORM after it was unzipped to see how to navigate or link to other elements.
However, let me just say that what you are trying to do will almost certainly cause you many headaches. A multi-SCO SCORM package is meant to be comprised of several individual SCO modules that do not usually talk to each other because by definition in the SCORM standard they are supposed to be standalone and not require anything else to play.
Additionally, a multi-SCO package uploaded to an LMS is intended to allow the LMS to control navigation to individual SCO modules via the TOC links that the LMS creates in its own SCORM player. Once you start over riding these links and opening up individual SCOs without using the TOC links you run the risk of confusing the LMS as to which SCO is actually playing. The SCORM API only wants to deal with one SCO at a time.

Hi, I'm helping StringSinger2 with this problem.
The previously installed version is Pages 3.0.3 (the same as from iWork 08). This version (Pages 3.0.3/iWork 08) is incompatible with Pages 5.
That is why it would be helpful to install iWork 09, which is the version between the two. It will open the older 08 files, and its saved files are readable by the new Pages5.

When I try to install iWorks 09 from my retail DVD the error message is "the installer is damaged". (I know the dvd is good, I installed iWorks09 to my laptop today.) Is the "installer" part of the system files? And - If that is damaged is there a patch for that?

In Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
To open your domain file in Lion or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.

Just launch the application, find and select the domain file you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder. So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

Can't Open the domain.sites2 file I Want To!

I'm tearing my hair out here!
I had multiple websites within iweb 08, but using it as more of a publishing facility and creating graphic adverts and stuff. Then I decided to make a website, which is where it all went to pot.
I hadn't realised that the domain.sites2 file contained all the information for the multiple sites.
What happened:
I downloaded iwebsites to separate sites and once managed to upload the website I wanted to publish to my .mac account. Then I successfully retrieved the old websites again fine.
When I tried this process again, everything was lost other than the published site. I had a back up of the domain.sites2 file on an external hard drive which I am now trying to get to open in iweb! And it won't.
I have gone through the process of deleting the iweb preferences and opening a blank site, saving it and replacing it with the old domains file with the content I want to open, but it always reverts to a new site (asking me to pick a template) or the last saved 'test' site.
I really don't want to lose everything I have been working on for the last 2 years! Does anyone have any ideas why the domain file I want to open isn't showing the correct content?

Yep I've tried that but it reverts back to the last saved test site. When I look at the package contents the pics and other items from all my sites are there but will not open as before!
