What applications comes with Leopard?

I'm planning on purchasing Leopard for my Powerbook G4 and I'm wondering about some applications such as iPhoto, iMovie, and iTunes and how I get them. I'm assuming when I install Leopard everything I have now is lost, so I will backup my files, but will I also lose these applications and have to buy iLife, or can I backup the apps too and somehow reinstall them after I install Leopard?

Personally I would recommend Archive and Install which is the safest option. See the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • What applications come with Leopard DVD?

I am getting a new laptop and plan on doing a fresh install of Leopard (10.5.6, and then software update to 10.5.8 I guess) for when I give my old one to my sisters. What applications will be on my old laptop after I do the fresh install?

A "new laptop" can't run Leopard, unless new means to you a used or refurbished Mac released prior to August 28, 2009:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2186
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1159
And some won't install 10.5.6 , unless they were released new prior to May 12, 2009, for the prebundled 10.5.6, or December 15, 2008 for the retail 10.5.6.
See my FAQ* on buying used and refurbished Macs:
    http://www.macmaps.com/usedrefurbished.html
And check that the applications you want to load are compatible with the operating system that comes with the machine you want to get.
Also be sure, when you give the machine to one of your sisters, that you have license for both the old and the newer machine for any applications you wish to give to the sister and keep for yourself.

  • What applications come with (and are required for)...

I'm looking over the list of applications now on my N8, and I've got several questions.
First, how can I confirm which applications came with the phone, and which I added myself?
Next, I'd like to know if it's "safe" to remove a lot of things I don't use.
My "already installed" list includes the following:
    Adobe Reader LE
    Angry Birds
    Battery Monitor 2
BBC iPlayer  <-----want to remove, but can't
    CameraLover
    Force Control Widget
    Galaxy on Fire
    MemInfo
    MMS DS Plugin
    Multimatic
    Nokia Smart Installer
    nokiastoreclient
    Nokia STore Installer
    OpeServicce
    ovi
    Ovi Notifications Support
    Ovi Store
Ove What's Hot     <-----want to remove, but can't
    PhotoEditorAIWPlugin
    PhotoEditorMemoryPlugin
    PhotoFusion
    PhotoTwister
    Puppy Talk
    QuickOffice
    Retromatic
    SeConUpdater
    Security Engine
    Service Controllers
    Shazam
    SMS DS Plugin
    Social
    SPB Weatherr
    SSOUI
    SSOUsernameWidget
    storeinstaller
    VideoEditorAIWPlugin
    VideoEditorOOMplugin
    WMDRM DLA iPlayer plus
I tried to uninstall some of these, but the phone won't do so. For example, Ovi What's Hot, which I will never ever use - how can I delete things like this?
Can I delete the "Social" app without messing anything up?  (Haven't tried yet).
The BBC iPlayer is another app I assumed I could zap, but it won't let me.  I don't understand why I can't remove it.
If anyone actually read that whole list, is anything listed up there that is a known potential problem to the smooth running of Belle?

For some of the apps you mention you can remove them but you will lose certain functionalities. For instance,  removing Adobe reader will obviously remove the ability to read PDF documents (not that it was much use at doing that anyway) and Quickoffice for other document formats as well as email attachments.
Removing Social obviously removes the ability to connect to Facebook and Twitter but not really a problem as there are much better third party solutions for this. However, it also removes the share icon from the gallery so unless you never use that option it's better to leave Social installed.
I'm not aware of what games may have been pre-installed on your phone as it's country dependant. My UK N8 did not come with any games pre-installed and as you have the BBC iPlayer app, I'm assuming your N8 is or was intended for the UK market, especially as it seems to be embedded in the OS (being non-removable) so may not have had any games pre-loaded.
Battery monitor, camera lover, force control widget, photofusion, phototwister, puppy talk, retromatic, multimatic and SPB whether are all downloadable from Nokia store or developers web site and don't come pre-installed. All these can safely be removed if you so wish.
Shazam is part of the Anna applications update package and can be removed with no ill effects to the phone.
The WMDRM DLA iPlayer plus is a plug-in to support BBC iPlayer.
Everything else should be left on the phone as they are part of the normal operations of the OS.
    All the best.
    Ray.

  • What games come with in Leopard ?

    Hi,
Can anybody tell me what games come with Leopard and where are they kept please?
    Thx George UK

Games are definitely one area where OS X comes up short. There's always the tile game widget that comes with dashboard (if you like that sort of thing). There are also some pretty good game widgets on the apple downloads site (including minesweeper, mastermind and even some simple arcade games).

  • What programs come with OS X - Leopard

I am new to Macintosh and my new MacPro should arrive around the 25th of February. What programs come with the new OS? Are there any photo or DVD programs? I really don't know what comes with the new system?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard (includes Time Machine, Quick Look, Spaces, Spotlight, Dashboard, Mail, iChat, Safari, Address Book, QuickTime, iCal, DVD Player, Photo Booth, Front Row, Xcode Developer Tools)
iLife ’08 (includes iTunes, iPhoto, iMovie, iDVD, iWeb, and GarageBand)

  • Will my new iMac come with Leopard or Tiger?

    Hi,
I'm going to Uni on Monday and want to finally purchase my Mac now that Leopard has been released.
My question is: If I order my new Mac on Monday, will it come with Leopard or Tiger?
In the online store it still states that it will come with Tiger, but maybe this has just not been updated?
If people don't know the answer, would you happen to know an Apple contact email address or telephone number I can call (in the UK) to check prior to ordering?

Are you sure you want to get a Mac with Leopard preloaded?
It may actually not be compatible with some of the software you depend on, and will have no chance of being so (unless the product is updated) because Macs historically have only been able to use the operating system they ship with and newer operating systems, and we are still learning which products need updates for Leopard.
The online store has a phone number in the upper left hand corner:

Apologies for any confusion we may have caused.
Currently, the DTAs (small boxes) are limited to viewing (up to and including) Digital Starter content.
Our DTAs don't yet support full strength encryption like full cable boxes do. Full-strength encryption is currently required for authorizing premium channels (like HBO) on a DTA.
DTAs that we have deployed support "privacy mode". This is a limited fixed passkey form of content protection.
We have no current plans to activate full-strength encryption, but if we were to do that in the future it would be done in a way that would be in compliance with FCC rules, including obtaining any necessary FCC waivers.
Some additional background at the link below (the article is from 2012 but still a good primer):
    http://www.lightreading.com/spit-(service-provider-it)/security-platforms/comcasts-dtas-security-optional/d/d-id/660833
We can certainly arrange to swap your DTA for a full cable box. Please give us a call at 1-800-COMCAST or stop by one of the the local service centers below to swap your box.

I could not get Best Buy's link to work, but Besy Buy sells them also. It is not hard to find it - go to Best Buy's website, on the side go to Audio and MP3, then go to Ipod and MP3 players, and search all of them, find it, and click on it, scroll down to the tabs with different information on them, click "specifications", and scroll to see what comes with it.
These are only a few of the stores you can get them from and the most popular stores I could think of.
    Hope I helped!

  • I have A question about Adobe creative Suite 3 Design Premium, and what it comes with..

My boyfriend works for a office furniture company building and tearing down office furniture. Today one of the people who worked at the company he was tearing down told him he could take any of the programs there as they had no use for them. So he took the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium as well as mac OSX Leopard, thinking I would like to use them. But I have a PC.
My question is what comes with the Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium? Since I can not use it, I thought I could sell it, but do not want to do so if I do not have everything it comes with or needs. What I have is three disc's, in the case. There is the application, the content, and the video workshop. There is no booklet or anything with it. If anyone could answer my question, I would really appreciate it. I dont want to sell it to someone and get in any trouble for it not having what its supposed to.
Thank you for your time and help.

Firstly, the CS3 Design Prem comes with Photoshop Extended CS3, Illustrator CS3, InDesign CS3, Dreamweaver CS3, Acrobat Pro 8 as well as Bridge and and Vesion Cue.
Secondly, has the packaging been opened? If so, it could still be installed on a PC or rather Macintosh somewhere. If so, this makes it a trickier proposition with regards to installing it yourself or selling it on.
Don't quote me on this, but if the software is fresh and unopened or has been deactivated, you could upgrade to Design Prem CS4 Mac and then crossgrade to Design Prem Windows. Don't know if it's possible to crossgrade and upgrade in one fell swoop from Mac to Win. I suspect not - but will be happy to be proven wrong.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot use the application "Safari" with Leopard

When I try to open Safari in my non-admin account I get an error message reading 'You cannot use the application "Safari" with this version of Mac OS X'.
Bizarrely, if I logon as the admin account it works perfectly.
I have repaired permissions, run software update, repaired permissions again, logged in as SU and fscked and still the same thing. I discovered that Omni Outliner would open the plist but I don't have the knowledge to interpret that.
I think I have used Safari on this laptop since upgrading to Leopard. Most of the time I use Firefox so it hasn't been an issue anyway. The really bizarre thing is it works normally in the admin account.
    All suggestions welcome.

Thanks for that. Tried it to no avail
I have found out what has gone wrong but I have no idea how.
I keep all my browsers in a subfolder of the applications folder. I trashed Safari with the intention of downloading a clean version from the Apple website. When I got there I couldn't find a version for OS X (there may be one, it just isn't obvious). So I thought I'd just try Safari one more time from my admin account. Of course the app wasn't in the browser folder. So I went to put it back in the applications folder with the intention of moving it from there to the browsers subfolder.
But no. There was already a newer version in the applications folder. How did it get there? I have no idea. But it opens. So I've moved it to the browsers subfolder and it still works.
So problem solved. I don't understand how it happened. And especially why it worked all along in the admin account.
Thanks to everyone who suggested solutions.

  • What server comes with J2EE download?(URGENT)

I've been trying to install jive Forum but always faced problem with it and it seems like J2EE original server don't support it.
How can I used other servers like Tomcat with J2EE?
    Please help URGENT!

Ok. I'm installing jive forums (www.jivesoftware.com).
By now, I've successfully run this forum on Tomcat server and HSQLDB provided by the forum itself. So I supposed that I've got the right settings. Before going on further, let me explain abit of the forum installation. First of all, the home directory for the forum must be set. After that, it's deploy. After deploying, user must access the setup which is jsp pages.
So I can access the setup page deploying the forum using Tomcat but not J2EE server. And the error I got is that the home directory has not been set when I run it with J2EE server but it's fine with Tomcat server.
In the command prompt, this is the errors I get:

If your project assignment was to deploy this forum
app on J2EE RI server, then I suppose it can be
installed on it.I'm wonder what is RI server. Is it the same with Tomcat? I found the configurations file of Tomcat and J2EE server almost the same.
Obviously the forum software relies on a database. Is
the database running? Is the jdbc driver for the
database included in the forum application or have you
configured your server to find it?For your information, the forum supports Cloudscape database which comes with J2EE1.3.1. The setting up of the database is in the setup pages.
Do you have any indication what's wrong with the
setup? Are there errors and stacktraces in the console
output? Can you access the application on your own
machine at all?The errors is above. Yes I can access the application on my machine using Tomcat server but not J2EE server.
    Please help. Thanks

  • New MacBook come with Leopard in October?

    Hi everyone,
My friend is about to purchase a macbook...i have been telling him to wait till October when Leopard is launched because then the computer will come with the latest OS.
Is my advice on the mark or off? I am not sure what the go is when a new OS is coming out and you have just bought a mac with the old OS. Do they upgrade you for free?
Also will the cost of macbooks go up if they have a new OS on them?
    Hope this all makes sense,
    Thanks a lot in advance!!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
This is a user-to-user forum hosted by Apple. None of us work for Apple and we have no idea what their plans are. It's against the Terms of Use to speculate about unreleased products and Apple's policies. All anyone can say is, in the past, the new version of Mac OS X was included as an upgrade disk at first. Shortly after, two or three weeks, the new version of Mac OS X was included built-in. Also, in the past, if the new version was not included after the release date then Apple would ship you an "up to date" disk for the cost of "shipping and handling".
Personally, I wouldn't wait. If you keep waiting for "The Next Best Thing™" you'll never end up buying anything. What if there are a couple of key issues regarding Mac OS X 10.5? Maybe you'll wait for 10.5.1? I would prefer to have a computer that runs with either Mac OS X 10.4 or 10.5 so you have options.

  • What's wrong with Leopard mail, its allowed in, something corrupting my mac

    Hi,
I recently bought a brand new 24 inch iMac and Leopard. Most things were fine until I received an unsolicited email on 28th Nov ...from a
Gemma Hindley FW; Compost like a pro
since then mail has gone haywire. I cannot delete this email at all. I cant receive any emails and I work from home and am really desperate as this is causing me major stress.
The waste paper icon has gone from my mail window and although emails are deleted from the working window, the dont go in the waste bin or the waste bin in the dock. When I quit ad reopen Gemma Hindley reappears.
Many times a completely different window appears when I open mail one that I have never seen before and is very difficult to navigate. many of the icons in the mail header bar are non operative with this window.
Other times Mail wont open, or wont quit, or cant send emails, have nt received any since Gemma this email. Then I went through this forum and found that if I
Open mail go to prefs general and switch check mail "manually.
    Force quit mail
Open Mail again go to prefs junk mail and turn off spam filtering
This then allowed me to open the usual mail working window and I received that infuriating email again and no other ones at all. I have sent myself emails and so have others but they have not been received by me at all. the above steps allowed me to send emails.
There is obviously a problem with Leopard mail. Whether or not this email has corrupted my mac I don't know. It looks like it is blocking all my incoming emails.
I am not as adept as many of you on this forum, just a simple user trying to earn a living and not able to do so at present. Help greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance. George UK

For anyone else reading this thread, it is worth knowing that sometimes an email is, or can be, corrupted thereby jamming the works. The solution above is good, but I just wanted to suggest another one.
If the problem arises, go to an online mail access service, such as Mail2Web.com and login to you mail account there and delete the offending message.
    Problem solved.
And George, as this is all entirely voluntary, whinging about no takers may not endear people to you. Besides which, a few minutes of searching on Google would have found you a number of solutions.
