What apps work best for free calls on my iPhone 5?
What apps do I need to make free calls on my iPhone 5?
What kind of free calls? Calls eventually cost, somewhere. If you are asking about using a VoIP app, there are Skype, Viber, although using Skype to call local landline numbers costs. If you use Skype to contact other Skype users, that is usually free, but you will be using some data, whether cellular or wi-fi.

What interface works best for GB? NO delay, latency issues please!!!
What is the best way to record electric guitar or a microphone (for acoustic & vocals) into Garage Band? I tried plugging directly in to the mic input and selected low latency but there still is a bit of delay. I assume I need a USB or firewire interface. What are some good ones that are ultra portable? This is for the road. Thanks for reading.
Zadamanim wrote:
wouldnt getting a super CPU fix latency issues? even if it did have to be routed through a thousand places, a fast processor could get it done without latency issues, no?
Yes and no!
First, Garageband gives you limited ability to change the size of its buffer, which impacts latency. So even if your CPU were fast enough, I'm not sure if GB would allow you to dial down the buffer size in order to fully take advantage of it.
Second, latency isn't only a function of CPU speed. There are other places where the audio can get bottlenecked as it makes its way in and out and through the computer. That's why some of the systems that market themselves as ultra-low latency for professional work use PCIe cards in order to shovel audio back and forth faster than is possible via USB or Firewire. For example, Apogee's Symphony System connects via a proprietary PCIe card in order to offer phenomenally low latency rivaling dedicated systems that use the computer only as a host (Garageband is a native system that uses the computer for everything).
So while a fast CPU is at the heart of the latency issue, there are a number of surrounding issues that also influence it. The workaround of having an interface with its own routing system - so you can listen to your audio as you record before it has a chance to go through the computer and get delayed - is a cheap and elegant, if imperfect solution. -

What airport works best for an extra large apartment?
how do i get an airport product to work in a large apartment?
I apologize. I did not completely answer your question.
I recommend you start with an Airport Extreme Bast Station which connects to your cable modem and will act as the router. You can connect devices to it either using Ethernet cable or wirelessly as it will set up one or two separate Wi-Fi networks - one lo-frequency and one hi-frequency.
If for some reason you have trouble connecting to it in different locations within the apartment, then you would add an Airport Express to boost the signal as I stated previously. -
What app is best for adding text to a slideshow?
I would like to alternate quotes with photos in a slideshow (with music). Can this be done in iphoto or imovie? Thanks!
If you use iPhoto you'll need a 3rd party image editor to create the quote slides, import them into iPhoto and add to the slideshow.
Some Image Editors:
Photoshop Elements 9 for Mac - $79
Rainbow Painter - $30
Imagerie - $38
Acorn - $50
Pixelmator - $60
Seashore - Free
Portraits and Prints - Free
GIMP for Mac - Free
If you have Pages or any application that can give you the layout designwith the quote that you want for the slideshow you can create the quote slide with it and do a Print ➙ PDF ➙ Save PDF to iPhoto to get a jpg copy of the page in Pages into iPhoto according to this workflow:
One way to get a file into iPhoto as a jpeg file is the following:
1 - open the file in any application that will open it.
2 - type Command+P to start the print process.
3 - click on the PDF button and select "Save PDF to iPhoto".
Note: If you don't have that option go to Toad's Cellar and download these two files:
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Save PDF to iPhoto 200 DPI.workflow.zip
Unzip the files and place in the HD/Library/PDF Services folder and reboot.
4 - select either of the files above (300 dip is used for photos to be included in a book that will be ordered).
5 - in the window that comes up enter an album name or select an existing album and hit the Continue button.
That will create a 200 or 300 dpi jpeg file of the item being printed and import it into iPhoto.

What font works best for Hindi titles in Premiere Pro CC 2014?
I'm attempting to subtitle a video in Hindi.
I've installed a few fonts but nothing is working 100%.
When I copy/paste from a translated script (PDF) random characters do not show up in the title tool (they appear as spaces).
I'm wondering if Adobe recommends any Hindi fonts that are Premiere friendly?
Thanks!Hi misidunai,
Use the 3D Camera Tracker in After Effects. Check out this video tutorial.

CAN U TELL ME WHAT WILL WORK BEST FOR MY LAPTOP
'''bold text'''INCLUDING ALL PROGRAMS RUNNING ON COMPUTOR
WILLING TO DELETE ANYTHING CAUSING COMPATIBILITY PROBLEMSBasically, do not buy a Harddrive Camera or a DVD Camera.
Get a Dv Tape camera (I am partial to Sony) and be certain that it has a firewire port (the only way to import video directly to your Mac. if you get a Sony, they call that port an iLink.
Be sure to pick up a 4-pin to 6-pin firewire as no camera that I know of comes with anything but a USB cable.

i have question about hooking up an external hdd to a time capsule and still have my printer hooked up as well. Anyone got any tips for me, how to do it and what brand of harddrive that will work best for me 1 or 2 TB
You just need a powered hub.. if you already use one then fine.
Plug in just about any external hard disk will work fine. Format has to be readable by the TC.. ie fat32.. or much better HFS+.. plug it into a Mac to prepare the drive.
Pick whatever size suits.. nowadays 2TB are most economical.
WD, Seagate have goobled up all the minor players.. so pick one.
Whatever suits your budget and asthetics.
NOTE.. The USB on the TC is fine for printers.. IMHO it is the wrong way to go with USB disks.. use the internal disk of the TC.. USB is less than half the native speed plugged into a Mac.. TC to USB is slow.. far slower than internal drive.. or using external drive as external. -

How have you made the DInc2 work best for you?
How have you personalized your DInc2 and made it work best for you? I mean, how have you set up the home screens, added/wigits or apps, organized stuff on your phone to make it the best phone for you? I LIKE my DInc2 but don't LOVE it, so I'm looking for some ideas to make it more me.
Here are a few apps I found useful:
ColorDict - a free dictionary
ColorNote - a free notepad
Skype - this is the full version downloaded from the market that can take advantage of the front facing camera, not the the skype mobile comes with the phone which doesn't have video call.
Kindle - a nice ebook reader
Yahoo Mail app - it pushes mail to your phone
My Track - a free Google product that uses GPS for tracking. It's useful when you are hiking
Since the HTC Clock/Alarm Clock app is broken, I also downloaded an alarm clock app
I also downloaded a few games to stimulate my brain once awhile.
In case you're interested, here are the apps I have on my home screen:
Yahoo mail, Battery meter, Music, ColorDict, Skype, ColorNote, Gallery, Maps, GPS, Navigation, Camera, Camcorder, Internet, People, Messages, Calender.
I wish the phone can lay golden eggs but so far it hasn't. -
What program works best in cleaning the junk file out of my mac?
What program works best in cleaning, and improving the speed of my mac. It's about four years old now, any suggestions are appreciated as I am new to this.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior. Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep. Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger. These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line. Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
Carbon Copy Cloner
Data Backup
Deja Vu
SuperDuper!
SyncTwoFolders
Synk Pro
Synk Standard
Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space. -
Pre-registering for free caller display may have n...
Someone I know pre-registered for free caller display but it may have not worked. On logging in to their calling features management page, "BT Privacy with Caller Display free for 12 months" is not ticked.
Probably best if everyone who pre-registered checks their own settings:
http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/consumerProducts/util/vendorRedirector.jsp?productId=CON-27455...
Is anyone else who has pre-registered for free caller display seeing that they are not in fact registered for free caller display in the control panel?
Oliver.ernie_c wrote:
I had previously pre-registered but heard absolutely nothing, not even an acknowledgement of my pre-registration.
I'm now wondering if all the telephone numbers and postcodes are now sitting in a spreadsheet waiting for a team in India to go through them one by one and submit them via the calling features form. It would explain why BT gave themselves a month to add it to everyone's account.

Hello,
I'll buy a Mac soon and i'm confused as to macbook pro or macbook air ... i'm in college now and work with Photoshop and 3D max .. make some short movie .. So what's the best for me ?You should also ask this in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air forums. This is the forum for the white and black plastic MacBooks that were discontinued in 2010. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer.
