Communities is a Modern Term for "Internet Forum". Should not be confused with "Social Networks" such as FaceBook, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.
Yes, and you already have begun 'participating' by posting your questions.
OK. But I think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_forum will do a better job... it is pretty comprehensive and well written
History
The modern forum originated from bulletin boards, and so-called computer conferencing systems, and are a technological evolution of the dialup bulletin board system.[2][3] From a technological standpoint, forums or boards are web applications managing user-generated content.[3][4]
Early Internet forums could be described as a web version of an electronic mailing list or newsgroup (such as exist on Usenet); allowing people to post messages and comment on other messages. Later developments emulated the different newsgroups or individual lists, providing more than one forum, dedicated to a particular topic.[2]
Internet forums are prevalent in several developed countries. Japan posts the most[citation needed] with over two million per day on their largest forum, 2channel. China also has many millions of posts on forums such as Tianya Club.
Some of the very first forum systems were the Planet-Forum system, developed in the beginning of the 1970-s, the EIES system, first operational in 1976, and the KOM system, first operational in 1977.
One of the first forum sites, and still active today, is Delphi Forums, once called Delphi (online service). The service, with four million members, dates to 1983.
Forums perform a function similar to that of dial-up bulletin board systems and Usenet networks that were first created starting in the late 1970s.[2] Early web-based forums date back as far as 1994, with the WIT[5] project from W3 Consortium and starting from this time, many alternatives were created.[6] A sense of virtual community often develops around forums that have regular users. Technology, video games, sports, music, fashion, religion, and politics are popular areas for forum themes, but there are forums for a huge number of topics. Internet slang and image macros popular across the Internet are abundant and widely used in Internet forums.
Forum software packages are widely available on the Internet and are written in a variety of programming languages, such as PHP, Perl, Java and ASP. The configuration and records of posts can be stored in text files or in a database. Each package offers different features, from the most basic, providing text-only postings, to more advanced packages, offering multimedia support and formatting code (usually known as BBCode). Many packages can be integrated easily into an existing website to allow visitors to post comments on articles.
Several other web applications, such as weblog software, also incorporate forum features. Wordpress comments at the bottom of a blog post allow for a single-threaded discussion of any given blog post. Slashcode, on the other hand, is far more complicated, allowing fully threaded discussions and incorporating a robust moderation and meta-moderation system as well as many of the profile features available to forum users.
Some stand alone threads on forums have reached fame and notability such as the "I am lonely will anyone speak to me" thread on MovieCodec.com's forums, which was described as the "web's top hangout for lonely folk" by Wired Magazine.[7]

My iSight is not working on my Macbook Pro. What are the possible problems and solutions?

    Hello Douglas,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the built-in iSight camera on your MacBook Pro.  I recommend the following steps for this issue:
Important: Follow these instructions in order. Test the camera between steps to see if the issue is resolved.
    Built-in iSight cameras
These steps are for iSight cameras that are built into a computer, such as the iMac G5 (iSight) or later, the MacBook, or MacBook Pro.
See if the issue is application-specific.
Try another application (iSight works with applications like iChat, PhotoBooth, and iMovie HD 6) to see if the iSight camera exhibits the same behavior in all applications. If it only happens in one application, try reinstalling that application.
See if the issue is user-specific.
Test your iSight camera in another user account. If the issue only occurs in one user, the issue would be isolated to user settings.
Find out if the computer recognizes the iSight
Check System Profiler (in the Utilities folder, inside the Applications folder). Under the USB header, check to see if the iSight camera is detected.
    Reset SMC or PMU
Reset your computer's SMC or PMU, and then check System Profiler again. (SMC reset instructions for iMac G5 (iSight), Intel-based iMacs; PMU reset instructions for MacBook and MacBook Pro.)
If your built-in iSight camera is still not behaving correctly after trying all these steps, you may need to contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.

  • What are the right steps to move iTunes 11 library from external HD to internal HD?

I have poked around the support communities and tried several times to move the iTunes library (currently on an external HD) to my internal HD.
    I've tried
    - pointing my library to my new internal HD location
    - checking "keep iTunes library organized"
    - checking "copy files to iTunes media folder while adding"
    - consolidating all files
    - exporting library
    No dice.
    I also tried
    - clicking create "new library"
    - physically copying (drag and drop) my iTunes subfolders to the new iTunes folder...
    - now I've got several duplicates
Clearly I should not become a Genius at the Genius Bar. Please suggest the best process/steps to get er done! I've kept my original iTunes folder nice and safe. So I can go back to ground zero and do it right.
    Thanks

What exactly do you have on the external drive?  A library is more than just media files.
Quick answer if you use iTunes' default preferences settings:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Open iTunes and immediately hold down the option (alt) key (shift on Windows) so you get a prompt to choose a library, then select the copied iTunes folder.
If this is to a new computer and you put the copied iTunes folder in the default location of Macintosh HD > Users > *User Name* > Music  then you don't even need to start with the option key held down, iTunes will automatically look for it there.  (Make sure there isn't anything already in the iTunes folder there that you want to keep since you will be replacing it with the one you are moving.)

    Hello cpreasbeck,
Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.
I was able to find the following transition guide for Xserve that provides some workload guidance to determine performance when planning a server deployment.
    Transition Guide Xserve
    http://images.apple.com/xserve/pdf/L422277A_Xserve_Guide.pdf
On page 9, Performance there is a chart that provides maximum numbers of connected users for various activities such as file sharing, mail, web, calendar, directory services and Time Machine and the CPU used as a server (Xserve, Mac Pro, Mac Mini). This information is a bit dated as the referenced software is Snow Leopard Server (OS X 10.6), and the hardware is older also, but it should give you a general idea of what you might need to look for.

I have not used mac book b4, and now I consider to buy a mac book. I am a college student and majoring in computer science. Can someone tell me what are the exact differences between MBP and MBA? I know the CPU in MBP is better than MBA and what else? Which one would you recommend me to buy? Waiting for your response. Thank you so much!

So the question is relevant at least to the extent that it is asking for a comparison between a MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air
MacBookAir definitely favors portability and sports a dual core i5 at 1.5GHz (max RAM is 4GB not user upgradable)
MacBook Pro  has upto a quad core i7 at 2.4GHz (ships with 4GB and upgradeable to as much as 16GB on some models)

  • What are the Terms and Conditions for the AppleID

What are the Terms and Conditions for the AppleID?   You know, those speed bumps you blow by when trying to achieve something.  Good luck trying to find them.  Apple has one place to take your money, many many different ways to tie you up with disparate Terms and Conditions.   They say that the fine print is important too.  So why are the terms and conditions for the AppleID so hard to find?

    Hi, Wanderer 37.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I absolutely understand your concern with having access to Terms and Conditions that you have accepted, and at Apple, we want this information to be as transparent as possible.  You can access the iTunes/Apple ID Terms and Conditions here:

And what do you do with that spare CPU cycles? Imagine that things are now better as the CPU utilisation has dropped by 10% or so?
What are the ways to control CPU usage precisely in database host that has multiple 10g instances. That is the kernel's job. Or do you think you know better than the very sophisticated processing and scheduling models that the kernel support - and should override that and control that from userspace?
I fear that particular instances overallocate CPU resource on the host and this affects performance of other instances on the host if CPU_COUNT value is set to default for every instances. Sounds like baloney to me. What you fear and not not fear does not change reality. What is the reality? What is the problem? In crystal clear technical details?

why would all of my passwords potentially disappear if I locked out iCloud? They're not stored there. (In fact, they're not even stored locally, at least not the only copy of them.)
I'm just violating the Apple Support Communities Terms of Use by speculating on what could happen in some future OS version.
Traditionally, it was no big deal to expect problems if you hacked on an operating system in unusual ways. But then the internet happened and people started copying and pasting hacks they found posted on the internet without realizing the scope of the changes they were making. Now that is compounded by Apple's laser-like focus on "the average user" at the expense of us "non-average" users.
For me, it is personal with iCloud. I have always used multiple partitions so I could keep multiple OS versions available for development and testing. That was never considered "hacking the OS" but it also wasn't quite "average user" behaviour either. I was very excited to get iCloud Keychain because I thought it would really make my life easier. It made my life much more difficult. I discovered that Apple no longer supports multiple boot partitions for some new features like iCloud Keychain. What other innocent habits do I have that Apple has deprecated?
So, the moral of my little story is that none of us have any idea what Apple's vision of its future, ideal customer might look like. Woe unto us if we deviate from what Apple expects us to do.

    Read: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4436
It is pretty short so here is the entire text:
    Symptoms
A purplish or other colored flare, haze, or spot is imaged from out-of-scene bright light sources during still image or video capture.
    Resolution
Most small cameras, including those in every generation of iPhone, may exhibit some form of flare at the edge of the frame when capturing an image with out-of-scene light sources. This can happen when a light source is positioned at an angle (usually just outside the field of view) so that it causes a reflection off the surfaces inside the camera module and onto the camera sensor. Moving the camera slightly to change the position at which the bright light is entering the lens, or shielding the lens with your hand, should minimize or eliminate the effect.
