What are correct Image sizes?

I've created a slideshow using Ken Burns effect, but some of the images don't seem to fit edge to edge left to right. The problem is that I have images where the subjects are on the left and right, but when viewed in the slideshow all I can see is the middle of the image and the subject is cut off. I can manually slide the image left or right, but I need the whole image to be displayed. I have moved the size slider all the way to the left, but it still doesn't show the whole image left to right.
Is there a rule of thumb for image dimensions for slideshows so that the WHOLE image gets displayed - there doesn't seem to be any way to resize images in iPhoto apart from cropping which isn't the same thing?
I'm trying to make a looping slideshow to burn to DVD that will be viewed on a standard HDTV ie. the DVD will autorun when inserted into a DVD player and will then keep looping until manually stopped.
Any help much appreciated!
Thx

Thx Terence.. I've tried this and while it does help the left to right edge issue somewhat, the top and bottom of the images are now being cut off - lot's of disappearing heads and legs etc. with just the middle of the body showing - and no way of resizing the image so that the whole image is shown!
What I need is the WHOLE image to display as it should - given that there is a trade off of black or white background where the image doesn't cover. Eg. in a portrait image where there is blank space to left and right or landscape with blank space top and bottom. It seems to be that the image is expanded to fit in some way by checking the 'scale photos to fit screen' box - not ideal really. Which brings me back to my original question of what are the correct image dimensions, so that the whole image gets displayed for viewing on a HDTV (16:9)?
Thx again for your time..

  • What are correct settings on iCloud to make sure photos are on all devices?

What are correct settings on iCloud to make sure photos are on all devices?

If your Westell modem (actually, it is likely a gateway...a combination modem/router) is set up for "PPP is on the modem", then the AEBS should be configured to Connect Using = DHCP or Ethernet. The AEBS also needs to be configured in Bridge Mode.
Open AirPort Utility, click on the AEBS, and click Edit
Click the Internet tab and change to setting to "Connect Using DHCP"
Then click the Network tab and set the Router Mode for "Off (Bridge Mode)"
Update to save changes and restart the network by powering everything off in any order that you want. Then start the Westell device first, followed by the AEBS a minute later, etc until everything is powered back up.
This type of setup may work OK for you.
If not, you will need to change the Westell setup to "PPP is on the router" and then configure the AEBS to provide the PPPoE service as you did originally.
AT&T does generally advise that the modem should be in "Bridge Mode" or "PPP is on the router" when other routers are used with the "modem". See this document for more info:

  • Photoshop CC not displaying correct image sizes, among other issues.

Hey, so I'd like a bit of help here!
I got my new laptop from the school a couple of weeks ago and photoshop’s been funky ever since I got it. It’s a brand new Macbook, and it's running Photoshop CC.
First things first, it won’t recognize some of the brushstrokes I make. It will show that I've made them, but they won’t show up in the history panel. I'll have to make another stroke for it to register both of them. (Making undoing things a real pain.) Also, some of the keyboard shortcuts I use won't work in a really similar way. If I go to switch to my brush by pressing b, it occasionally won't register it unless I make an additional brush stroke. This works with all of the other shortcuts I use.
In addition, file sizes are all kinds of messed up. Here’s the most recent example. The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
Here’s another example. This one is 1254 x 1201, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB, shown at 100% zoom. The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M. I don’t feel like that’s right? I don't remember any other versions of Photoshop having images be that large.
Maybe it’s my computer settings? Right now I have the resolution set on "best for display," but even if i use the "scaled" option and change sizes, the images are still too small.
I don't know if I would be able to uninstall and then re-install Photoshop because the school has control over those sorts of things and there are certain programs that you cannot remove. I've tried restarting the program as well as the laptop, but neither of those helped.
if anyone can help me, I’d really appreciate it! Thank you!

For generic performance and trouble-shooting advice I’d like to recommend reading these:

    http://blogs.adobe.com/crawlspace/2012/07/photoshop-basic-troubleshooting-steps-to-fix-mos t-issues.html
    As for the specifics:
The image size is 4.31M. If I go to double the size and change nothing else, the image size jumps up to a whopping 17.2M.
If you double the dimensions of an image the area is increased fourfold – so what is the problem there?
The image dimensions are 500px x 135px, 300DPI, 8bit, RGB color. This is at 100% zoom. Those are the settings I normally use, but for some reason it’s showing the file as about half of the size it should be. (Tumblr post for comparison—they are 500px wide.)
The introduction or Retina (and other high resolution) displays and browsers actually up-scaling images to accommodate those screen resolutions seems to have confused some users about the concept of pixels.
Could you please post a full size screenshot on this Forum of the image at View > 100% in Photoshop and on tumblr?

  • Photoshop cropping to correct image size for SP

Ok, this is my first attempt for support here. I've looked quite a bit at other questions that might be similar but can't seem to find my answer.
I'm trying to prepare about 150 pictures in photoshop for a gift DVD presentation. Unfortunately most of the shots are portrait and of course the screens are landscape. I'm wondering if there's a way I can crop these pictures before bringing them over to SP? In the photoshop cropping option I don't get pixels but rather inches. I've learned on the forums that I should try and have my pictures set at 720 X 534 at 72. However in the "image size" option of photoshop when I change the height pixels it automatically changes my previously set width pixels which I has set at 720. AND, what it an even greater concern is that the image size option just makes my pictures smaller but does no cropping. I'd sure like to decide where all these portrait pictures get cropped myself rather than having SP I guess automatically cut them to size to fit the screen.
Appreciate any assistance. I'm using CS3 and SP4

You will need to scale them and then drop them into a proper template (there should be DV menu templates with CS3, have not got my copy yet, but CS2 had them - should be there when you select File->New)
Take a look at the action and title safe lines also in the template, you are going to want all the photos to be inside the small area.
In order to see what you want to see from the pictures you will need to adjust each one.

  • What are the header size variables?

I am wondering what is the header size capabilities in pixels?

There is no limit to how tall the actual header can be.  However, images that are placed inside of a header have a pixel limit of 300-pixels tall.  The width of the header is limited by the max width of a form (since they are the same width), and the maximum width that a form can be is 1500 pixels wide.
As for the minimum height and width, those are defined more by the margins and the font sizes you choose (if you choose text).  For width, forms have a minimum width limitation of 300 pixels wide.  For the height, the effectual minimum height is 50 pixels tall, but an image or a font larger than the minimum would increase that minimum.
I'm curious to know if you have needs beyond those limitations and what the use case is.  Do you need to insert an image in the header to be greater than 300 pixels tall?

  • Photoshop elements not printing correct image size

My photoshop elements 12 prints images larger than called for by the settings. A 3" square image, for example, printed at "actual size" comes out at about 3.5 inches. This is a new problem, as I've use PSE for years without it happening. I figure I must have unknowingly changed a setting somewhere, but can't figure it out. Any suggestions?

I did that, and also reinstalled PSE, both to no avail. Here's a shot of the print dialog. I don't know where the numbers shown by my arrow came from, or how to change them, but when I print the page, and the photo I am printing, are scaled up to 11x8.5, thereby expanding the image proportionately. This particular image is 3x2 inches actual, but comes out 3.75x2.5 inches. There seems to be a built-in border of some sort that I've never had to deal with before.

  • What are correct FireFox preference settings so don't have to always provide email address for a certain website?

Ever since upgrading to OS Mountain Lion I have to provide my email address for a particular website if my Mac has been restarted, even though I indicate on the website that I want to stay signed in to the website for two weeks at a time. When I had OS Snow Leopard, at this website I did not have to input my email address more often than every 2 weeks, no matter how often my computer was restarted.
What settings in FireFox preferences should I input so I don't have to input my email address at this website every time my computer is restarted?

  • What are "average" screen sizes, resolutions etc. for websites

This may be the wrong forum but -
All screen sizes vary, all browser outputs vary, and all individual preferences for browsers are subjective.
Having stated the obvious, can anyone offer guidance on the best 'common denominator' settings/set-up procedure on starting out on a web design so that the best 'average' viewing and reading is achieved? A tough one!
I now have an iMac 24" set high on 1920 x 1200 and my current website looks fine (it's non-iWeb). But now I'm told 800 x 600 is still a fairly common screen resolution 'worldwide', and viewed on this my pics and texts are elephantine, need scrolling mercilessly, and are..... just plain ugly.

These days the variety of devices which can display web pages ranges from small mobile phones to large high definition TVs. So there's no way your web pages will look good on everything - especially older 800x600 CRTs.
Although Apple's iWeb templates are narrow (700pixels?), Apple's own recently re-designed webpages at apple.com are now mostly 980 pixels wide. This is also the width that iPhone's Safari is optimized to:
    http://developer.apple.com/iphone/designingcontent.html
...scroll down & click on "Optimize for Page Readability"; it says: "Safari on iPhone also sets the viewport width to 980 pixels, *the width of most webpages*." And: "if your webpage is less than 980 pixels wide causing it to scale too small on iPhone..."
So clearly the iPhone's default scale is optimized for 980 wide and apple.com also. Obviously 980-wide pages won't be good on a non-scaling 800-wide display because of the need to scroll horizontally - which should be avoided where possible. But you'll never satisfy all viewers - especially those with old technology.
Since the iPhone automatically scales 980-wide web pages perfectly to its 320 x 480 screen and future display devices will scale too, perhaps you won't go far wrong if you take Apple's example and set your page width to 980.

I think it really depends on your audience. If your audience is ALL, then you'd probably better stick to 640x480 I'm sure there's a few still out there!
If your audience is "recent/new computer users, you could be safe designing for 1024x768. If you just want a good sized swath of users with computers of a decent capability, then some of iWeb's pages (several of the default themes fit well within 800x600) are good for this, leaving plenty of room for dragging items to the desktop and accounting for scroll bars

  • What are correct steps of integrating and using jasper report with ADF 11g?

    Hi,
I am using JDev 11.1.1.2.0 with ADF 11g.
I want to use jasperreports 3.7.0 along with ADF 11g to build reports in PDF on a button event. This is the first time I will be attempting it so before starting up I went through forum to get exact and clear steps on the jars and integration points of jasper with adf. There is exhaustive list but still it does not have the needed clarity.
Can anyone help in listing down the jars and integration steps? and also want to know if there are any points in particular that I need to be aware of while running i along with ADF faces.
Pls note the ver. of jasper and adf mentioned above.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Basically, you need to:
    - have all the jars in ViewProject/WEB-INF/lib, and include them to the project (Project properties -> Libraries and Classpath) - last time I did this was with version 3.1.3 and the necessary jars were jasperreports-3.1.3.jar, jcommon-1.0.0.jar and iText-2.1.4.jar (plus poi<+whatever is the latest version+>.jar if you want to generate .XLS reports)
    - call the code for generating reports from your backing bean (button's actionListener)
    - flush the report to the client (directly to HTTPResponse or by using af:fileDownloadListener)
Those are the general steps, without going into the coding.

  • What are correct settings for AEBS as a DSL router?

Just bought a new AEBS to function as a wireless router for my DSL and am configuring it in OSx 10.7.3 using the airport utility setup menu on my late 2011 MBA.  My 3 y/o old AEBS connects just fine - the (ATT) westell modem and internet are functional.  The new AEBS network is detected but won't connect to internet and a message scrolls next to the wifi icon " connecting to PPPoE".  When I did the setup, I was prompted for name and password for PPPoE and supplied this .  The modem connection info says "PPP is located on the modem" and I wonder if supplying the name and pw for PPPoE was necessary for the new AEBS? Are there some settings I need to change in the configuration?  Ideas appreciated!

  • Image size for playbook wallpaper

What is the image size supposed to be for the wallpapers on the playbook?
I have been tinkering with wallpapers, and read where the image needs to be 1024x600.  I have tried files of this size and the playbook cuts off the edges.
I have ended up creating images that are originally 1024x600 and then just expanding the canvas to 1300x1300 to get the image to look correctly.  And these only work in landscape.  It is a whole different ball game in portrait,
I was able to get 1 image to work both landscape and potrait, but that was a simple circular logo originally scaled to 1024x600, then the canvas opened to 1250x1250.  That one worked descently.
Also, an idea for RIM, allow different wallpapers in landscape and potrait.  This way we can have an image that sits like we want it so we can see what we want.  Just an idea.  Thank you.

  • FCP Image size

When placing a 1280x720 (960x720) dvcpro HD clip in a sd 720x480 timeline, FCP scales the image to 75% making it letterboxed with black on top & bottom. When rescaling the clip to 100% the image appears full screen with the sides of the image cropped off. This is fine, but in reality the image isnt scaled to 100%. If you do the math an image that is 720 Pixels high, would only need to be scaled to 66.7% to reach the 480 pixel height. After effects scales this why, Where do the pixels go? Or is this just a false scale and if you scale to 125% in motion tab, you are really not losing any resolution? What gives here Apple?

I guess Im not asking the right question, The real issue is what does the scale tab in the clip viewer really tell you, try this test. Make a Photoshop square pixel 1280x720 image. Drop it into a dv 720x480 comp. Dont let FCP change the sequence setting! Final cut will give you the image at 56.25. When you make the vertical fit it reads 75%. Now take the same image into a dv 720x480- Anamorphic comp. The scale now reads the correct image size of 66.7%. Now take a nonsquare dvcproHD clip(960x720) and the values change to 100% in the dv comp and 75% in the Anamorphic comp.
Im technically not changing the vertical pixel height of 720 in any of these images.
