What are diffrent house keeping jobs??

Dear Guru's,
One of the important activity of DBA is space management on the database server.
Ex :- Maintaing only latest Week of Export backup and removing older export backups.
What are the standard rules for maintaing the diffrent log files ,i.e. Alert log files and Listener.log files ?

Alert log: I rotate my alert logs every month. Move it to a different file name
Listener log : I create a new one every couple of months or when it reaches a gig. I remember that in older Linux, Listener will hang when the log size reaches 2 GB (not because of ulimit resource but even otherwise)
Trace files : I archive them along with the trace files and delete them after 3 months
Space : Have a script to check the Oracle Home, background dump, user dump etc directories and make sure there's always good amount of space left.
Export must not be considered as a backup. It may be "thought" of as a supplementary to the regular backups (RMAN) but not on its own. Yes, keep three days at least (to cover weekend and bacnk holidays) before you delete them from disk. Or move them to tapes.
Again, it all differs from one shop to another and also from one DBA to another.

  • What are all the subjobs that get called for when a load is scheduled.

Can any one please tell me - "when I schedule a load to my Infocube or ODS or other data target, what are all the sub jobs/requests that get called for? Like if I go and see in Tcode SM37, I see several jobs running. Any input is greatly rewarded. Thankyou!!!!

    Hi,
Adding to what is mentioned above, if its scheduled if its a BW datamart load scheduled in background you can see that in  SM37 job log (give BIrequest name) (In source system if load is from R/3) and it should give you the details about the request.
SM66 > Get the job details (server name PID etc from SM37) and see in SM66 if the job is running or not. (In source system if load is from R/3 or in BW if its a datamart load). See if its accessing/updating some tables or is not doing anything at all.
Also try SM50/SM51 to find that job.
Try RSMO from the Infopackage monitor.
    Thanks,

    HI All,
I just wanted to know how do we find out what are the interfaces used for Job and Job codes .
    Thanks In Advance

    Hi,
Here is an idea for your request.
Basically you can create a simple query on multiprovider 0TCT_MC01.
Filter: you can use a variable for restriction of time ( calday, or calmonth) since you should be interested for a time period.
Choose following characters into your objects:
InfoProvider ( 0TCTIFPROV )  - you can create a variable for choosing infoprovider before query runs.
*Tp.[Type of BI Application Object] 0TCTBISOTYP  = filter this with 'QUERY' or whatever your need is.
*BI Application Object 0TCTBISBOBJ,  ( this will give you the name of the queries)
In key figures choose,  Count for BI Appl. (0TCTWTCOUNT).
    (number for query run)
    Create a condition , for top 20.
    Hope this helps.

Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,

  • How to identify what are all the events are created in background jobs?

    Hi all,
how to identify what are all the events are created for  background jobs. And what events gets triggered for a particular job.
    thanxs
    haritha

    Hi Haritha,
JOB is a program which starts to a determined point of time and executes some standard programs in the system. JOBs can be planed to a determined point of time on the regular basis (every night, for example) or to some discret time moments. So, the JOB can be planed and then will be started automatically without the manual start.
Realtime programs are understood in the most cases as actual program execution which is started by somebody to the actual moment of time.
Typically per JOBs some special processes will be started that should be executed automatically and regularly: for example, IDOC application, some correction reports, statistic updates etc.
Standard jobs are those background jobs that should be run regularly in a production SAP System These jobs are usually jobs that clean up parts of the system, such as by deleting old spool requests.
    Use
As of Release 4.6C, the Job Definition transaction ( sm36 ) provides a list of important standard jobs, which you can schedule, monitor, and edit.
Standard jobs are those background jobs that should be run regularly in a production SAP System. These jobs are usually jobs that clean up parts of the system, such as by deleting old spool requests.

    About Events:
Events have meaning only in the background processing system. You can use events only to start background jobs.
Triggering an event notifies the background processing system that a named condition has been reached. The background processing system reacts by starting any jobs that were waiting for the event.
    Types of Events:
There are two types of events:
1.)System events are defined by SAP. These events are triggered automatically when such system changes as the activation of a new operation mode take place.
2.)User events are events that you define yourself. You must trigger these events yourself from ABAP or from external programs. You could, for example, signal the arrival of external data to be read into the SAP system by using an external program to trigger a background processing event. The event scheduler processes an event if the event is defined in the system.
For example, if a system (System 1) receives an event from another system (System 2), the event scheduler of System 1 processes the event only if it is defined in System 1. That event does not need to be defined in System 2 (the sending system).
You define an event by assigning a name (EVENTID) to it. When defining an event, you do not define the event arguments.
for more information you can go thru the following thread:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04s/helpdata/en/fa/096e2a543b11d1898e0000e8322d00/frameset.htm
When you schedule the process chain or infopackages the jobs associated with it run in the background mode. In case you want to create a job for a specific activity you can do so in SM36. You would be creating jobs that would get executed in any one of the options:
    1. Immediate
    2. Date & Time
    3. After event.
    4. After job.
    5. At Operation mode.
In case you want to view the job logs go to sm37.
Also Pls check DB02 for database performance and ST03 for workload .
Analyse u will have an idea ,
*pls assign points,if info is useful**

  • What are the key points of a job nterview as a java programmer ?

    Hi,
I would like to know what to expect from a job interview as an entry level java programmer ?
    Do you have recommendations ?
    Thank you in advance,
    Grazia

Primarily, be honest. That is true only if you are going to be
be interviewed by technical people. RH people don't
care for honesty or how good you are. More than once
I was asked in an interview:
"Are you an Expert in java? You would say from 0%
0% to 100% how much do you know java?"
My usual answer is: "No. I have still a lot to
to learn, java is a vast subject and its is very
unlikely someone know it all, I have a good grasp of
the sintax and of OO design but I would say I know
just 5% to 10%". Then they make a "face" pass a
crappy test that only deals with the simplest of the
java concepts(usually it is clear the person who
designed the test does not even grasp the basic), the
last one took me 8min to answer and I leave knowing
that one more time I did not got the job.
As it is I never go any job if the RH is the
he responsible for the hiring, I only get the job
when I talk directly with technical people.
May the code be with you.'RH'? You mean 'HR'?

  • Standard Job Definition - What are these?

Can someone tell me what the following jobs are?  Can't find any SAP documentation on these.
I see them in the BWCCMS, but can't find any information on them.  Shouldn't these be documented if they are defined as standard jobs that should be run?
    SAP_PROCESS_CUA_IDOCS_INB_000
    SAP_REORG_SECURITY_LOG
    SISM_COLL_AND_TRANS_DATA

    Hello Kenneth,
all these jobs belong to SAP internal systems and should only be used by them (component XX-HST-OPR*). There's little information released for them, all for internal use of SAP only.
This is a summary of each one that can be made public:
    job SAP_PROCESS_CUA_IDOCS_INB_000:
The job SAP_PROCESS_CUA_IDOCS_INB_000 executes the program RBDAPP01 (Inbound processing for Idocs ready for transfer) with an internal variant to perform the  (Inbound Processing of CUA IDOC). This is a part of CUA (Central User Administration) configuration, but for  Hosting Users/Systems only. The job is required to run in short periods to get the data from CUA server and must be  run only in a specific SAP standard client  and not in any customer client.
    job SAP_REORG_SECURITY_LOG:
This job is a new job that hosting is deploying as part of security logging in a specific SAP standard client. It performs security/systems settings scans in SAP Hostings Systems for optimization and security purposes.
    job SISM_COLL_AND_TRANS_DATA:
This job collects specific data for transaction SISM (SAP inhouse system manager), used to manage SAP Hosting systems.
    I hope this information helps.

  • What are some best practices for Effective Sequences on the PS job record?

    Hello all,
I am currently working on an implementation of PeopleSoft 9.0, and our team has come up against a debate about how to handle effective sequences on the job record. We want to fully grasp and figure out what is the best way to leverage this feature from a functional point of view. I consider it to be a process-related topic, and that we should establish rules for the sequence in which multiple actions are inserted into the job record with a same effective date. I think we then have to train our HR and Payroll staff on how to correctly sequence these transactions.
My questions therefore are as follows:
    1. Do you agree with how I see it? If not, why, and what is a better way to look at it?
    2. Is there any way PeopleSoft can be leveraged to automate the sequencing of actions if we establish a rule base?
    3. Are there best practice examples or default behavior in PeopleSoft for how we ought to set up our rules about effective sequencing?
    All input is appreciated. Thanks!

As you probably know by now, many PeopleSoft configuration/data (not transaction) tables are effective dated. This allows you to associate a dated transaction on one day with a specific configuration description, etc for that date and a different configuration description, etc on a different transaction with a different date. Effective dates are part of the key structure of effective dated configuration data. Because effective date is usually the last part of the key structure, it is not possible to maintain history for effective dated values when data for those configuration values changes multiple times in the same day. This is where effective sequences enter the scene. Effective sequences allow you to maintain history regarding changes in configuration data when there are multiple changes in a single day. You don't really choose how to handle effective sequencing. If you have multiple changes to a single setup/configuration record on a single day and that record has an effective sequence, then your only decision is whether or not to maintain that history by adding a new effective sequenced row or updating the existing row. Logic within the PeopleSoft delivered application will either use the last effective sequence for a given day, or the sequence that is stored on the transaction. The value used by the transaction depends on whether the transaction also stores the effective sequence. You don't have to make any implementation design decisions to make this happen. You also don't determine what values or how to sequence transactions. Sequencing is automatic. Each new row for a given effective date gets the next available sequence number. If there is only one row for an effective date, then that transaction will have a sequence number of 0 (zero).
