What are good specs to run OSX Mavericks?

I have been running OSX 10.6 snow leopard smoothly on my 2009 Unibody Macbook for a while now. I was wondering, if I have a 2.26 GHz intel core 2 duo and 4gb of 1067 MHz DDR3 memory would I still be able to run Mavericks smoothly? I saw Apple has apparently stopped patching 10.6 so I was thinking of upgrading but I don't want to if its going to make my Mac run slower.
Also, if I do upgrade the OS, do my files like music and pictures stay or do I need to back them up? Sorry if that's a stupid question this is my first mac and I have never upgraded the OS before.

Yes, you can run Mavericks just fine, but be aware that you may find older software may not run.

You can upgrade to Mavericks from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mavericks can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for FREE.

You should always backup before doing any OS update. I would also recommend:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

While I can't recommend any brand of camera, you should consider a couple of things about the editing... iMovie 8 is a good program to use if you just need to create something quickly with little real editing and sound manipulation. And iM 8 will interface with both DV tape cameras as well as hard disk/flash drive types as well. You can export the product to web services, etc very easily but it will take some extra effort to create a DVD from the edited shots. There is no direct export to iDVD.
If you want to get more serious about editing, you should consider looking iMovie 6 as it has much more flexibility in rearranging clips, adding and editing sounds, etc. However, it will only interface with DV tape cameras, which by the way, are the highest quality pics available, and you can create DVD disks.
You might try borrowing a tape camera to make a test run and compare it to a camera that uses a HD for storage. Use iM 8 and compare to ease, etc, and the product to one created in iM 6. This certainly is not the kind of recommendation you are asking for, but maybe will help in making your decision about which way to go.

It won't run "on" Mountain Lion as it is a new OS. It will replace Mountain Lion. While pricing hasn't been announced, I doubt it will be free.

Yes, I too had this problem.
I was issued an update from Apple for a new version software as well as a new version of Lightrooom and now it shows up on the desktop and in finder as it should.

MacOS 10.9 has a lot of bugs, but the biggest ones seem to have been fixed by 10.9.4.
The problems we see remaining mostly center around drivers, especially Epson printer drivers.

Hi there, for some reason I am unable to open InDesign CS6 files. I've restarted Creative Cloud, my computer, nothing. I get a prompt saying that some files need to be relinked, which I've had before but then it opens fine. I can't even open a new document. This is a new issue since OSX Mavericks update....any thoughts?

I'm a Windows user, but I can tell you that there are thousands of Mac users with CS6, and a god number of them use the new Mavericks without a problem, so it's more likely to be something specific to your system.
I can also tell you that upgrading an OS can be a crapshoot and it's usually better to do a clean install, but I can't promise that wiping your system and rebuilding will solve the problem if it's some sort of conflict with third-party software.

What are the specs of the audio output in iMovie?

Using iMovie on iPad2, what are the audio specs for the final movie output options (HD1080p, HD720p, etc.)? Does my 16/44 WAV or ALAC audio remain as, or is it converted?

I don't have the new iPad, so I can't say if it saves up to 1080P.
But I would assume when you save to the camera roll it will save it as 1080 video.
On the iPhone 4, and older iPad it saves a 720 video, but that is the source it gets.
But I can answer about the audio.
IMovie iOS will encode the audio and video in the same format the device records.
So it will save the video as H264, and embed audio as AAC.
These are compressed formats.
You do lose some quality in the final output.
I find this is minimal, and well worth the loss for the ability to edit on the go.

3. Invoke Jython and then do "import wl"
The import fails with error

Looking at the wlst.sh, it extends classpath for bunch of jars like

You shouldn't need to press the Sync button. In the Pod options menu for the share pod, with the PPT loaded, you will see an option for Show Presentation Playbar. Use that to get the Play button for the Hosts and Presenters in the room, and press play. The presentation will now play in a looped mode for everyone in a synchronized mode. i really like wmi ... that's why i have it installed on any machine i need to mainain .... but for some things, it just look too "small" on a 15" UXGA screen (very small pixels) ... here xfce is the alternative: it is fast, gtk2 and has a wm that has elementar but nice window titles/borders, that are customizable if someone would make wmi use gtk2 for some things (in some way like a wrapper) and use bigger things (bigger fonts for a start), it would be the reason to use wmi for daily work

Apex version control: what are "good practices"?

I have made my first Apex application that is been tested right now. Once this version is released, I should want to have a stable and robust versioning system for this application. I don't have any experience with this. So any info about this issue would be very welcome. Are there some good practice rules I should follow? What are things to watch out for? Etc... Some things I'd like to be able to do:
1. Have version numbers assigned to the application
2. Have update scripts to go from one version to the next. (If possible have update scripts to go to the latest version, whatever the current version is.)
3. Rollback to a previous version of the application
4. See te differences between different versions of the appliction
I also would like the same for the database schema.
Any help would be very welcome...

Here how I do it:
Each Apex application has a unique version number in the format Major Release Number / Minor Release Number / Patch Release Number e.g.
Version 1.3.2
Each object and build script are separate files, with their own version number and stored in a Configuration Management Database (CMDB) e.g. Subversion. The version number, author, description, date, change history are commented into the header of each script.
Each Release on CD is also given a unique sequential number so that different releases of the same version can be tracked through test. Each CD Release will usually consist of an application export, object scripts and a build script. The CD image is also checked into the CMDB.
If an application is going to distributed as a packaged application or installed on multiple environments then each release is a full build. For single instances, the builds are incremental.
