What are most likely causes of internet keep dropp...

keeps dropping for 60 seconds every 10 mins, has always been fine, no new equipment being used. Is the most likely cause the ADSL filter? They ran a line check and checked exchange and all seemed ok. If its not ADSL filter what other reasons can there be for it to keep dropping?

have you tried changing the filter.
normal reason is noise on the line try quiet line test dial 17070 option 2 should be quiet and best done with corded phone if cordless then dull hum is normal
are you connected to test socket? do you have other sockets apart from the master?
please can you post the adsl stats from your router may need to 'show detail' to get all stats (if hub enter 192.168.1.254 in your browser and navigate to adsl or use a-z, if netgear enter 192.168.0.1) and run btspeedtester (MAC users may have problems) http://speedtester.bt.com or http://bt.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9354/c/346,4740,5520 and post the results .
Someone may then be able to offer help/assistance/suggestions to your problem

1- dont open too much apps , and if you do , close them by multitasking menu.

I routinely run Maintenance (http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs2/english/maintenance.html), a free app that—yep, you guessed it!—performs maintenance on your Mac. It uses a mix of maintenance scripts that are built-in to OS X (OS X runs them silently, but this allows them to be run on demand), and some of its own methods for cleaning a Mac to keep it running smoothly.
I've found that Maintenance does help—I definitely recommend it!—but the older my MacBook has become, it seems the less Maintenance can do to mitigate the slowdown that comes with age.

I don't think it's because the hardware is old by today's standards, because in my experience if you reformat any machine it will operate significantly faster, even after restoring all of the software that was removed by the format.
I've become increasingly suspicious about the hard drive's free space's effect on a system's performance. I've always known that it has a noticeable effect—less swap space for virtual memory—but I'm beginning to wonder if the effect of a mostly-full hard drive is much more than I have previously imagined. Just a feeling.

• I was under the impression that Disk Utility's “Repair Disk” would fix all non-permissions-related errors (other than physical damage, obviously). If they can be fixed by a backup-reformat-restore, then I take it they are software (filesystem) based problems. If so, why can't software solve the problem without a reformat?
Disk utility can and does repair permissions and basic disk errors. However it does not rebuild directory data.

I think this is your main issue. Try moving your itunes and movie to an external drive then see how your mac performs.
Also a good way to reclaim some space is to delete all the language localisations you dont use. It is amazing that iWeb alone can install a few 100megs of foreign language templates that you will never use.
I used to use Mike Bombich's delocalizer to do this but that app is not longer available so I use monolingual now.
edit, as you have macbook you are lucky in that it is really straightforward to install a bigger internal hard drive.
You can now get 5000GB 2.5 inch sata hard drives. You could take out the old drive hook that up to a usb to sata cable, install a bigger hard drive. then connnect the usb cable to your mac. Then boot from your Leopard Disk then use disk utility clone your old drive onto your new drive.

New WIN7 System, FFox gives error "Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory" - will not go to any site.

New Windows 7 computer. After installing Firefox, every time I bring it up I get the following message:
"Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Then Firefox comes up, but will not function at all - can enter url address, but will not respond to ANY clicks, so can not go to any site.

Open Activity Monitor in the Utilities folder. Select All Processes from the Processes dropdown menu. Click twice on the CPU% column header to display in descending order. See if that helps. Be sure to note the name of the runaway process so you can track down the cause of the problem.

My Airport just shut off and it will not power on. I unplug it from the wall and pulg it back into the power outlet but it still won't power on. What are the possible causes. Is this system just died out, I have it for about 3 years.

Causes....a failed electical power supply component or an internal connection that has come loose.
It's a real longshot, but if you are handy with small tools, carefully saw open the case of the Express along the center seam to open up the case and look for something obvious.
Your chances of success here are very very small, but if you have the time and inclination, it won't hurt to try.

We had a similiar problem on UNIX. It was due to a process clean up script that was running as part of scheduled server maintenance. For some reason it would kill the Essbase server process and leave us with the orphaned child processes.
Once we figured that out the script was adjusted to ignore all Essbase processes.
Your example - I may be reading it wrong but it does not appear to be orphaned.

What are most important preferences to set in LR 5

Now that I have finally got LR5 loaded and my previous catalog imported with the great help of Briian and Victoria the question remains.....what preferences do I surely need to set?
I could just look at my LR 4.4, but are there others that might apply to 5 that are particularly important?

I'm not sure what all the defaults are at the moment, but check these:
* Set: 'Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos' (If you shoot raw+jpeg, unless you want to have no access whatsoever to those jpegs in Lr).
* Clear: 'Store presets with this catalog', unless you need different presets with different catalogs...
* As Desired: 'Automatically write changes into XMP' - I prefer saving manually, but I recommend either saving manually or checking this box.
The defaults are mostly well-chosen by Adobe so you don't generally need to worry about them until needs arise... But do look them over...
Also, if you have an especially large or especially small monitor, you may need to bump or reduce the standard preview size (in catalog settings), respectively. It's not that critical, but it'll perform a little better if this setting is not too far off.
And, if you keep private photos in with the rest, clear: 'Show photos in navigator on mouse-over', lest you embarrass yourself when showing photos to others.
