What are people using to convert .3gp video files into something compatible with iMovie? Does Apple have SW to do this?

I am trying to find the best and safest way to convert .3gp video from my Blackberry into a file format that iMovie will recognize.  I see lots of potential downloads, but I am hoping for some recommendations on which SW is most helpful.  Thanks.

There is a free App called MPEG Streamclip from Squared 5. You can drag your .3gp into MPEG Streamclip. Then FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME.
For HD sizes (1280x720 or 1920x1080), choose Apple Intermediate Codec as the Video Codec.
For smaller sizes, you can also use Apple Intermediate Codec, but h.264 will also work and will give a smaller file size.
Then import this new file into iMovie using FILE/IMPORT MOVIES

      Windows XP

Windows Media Player on a PC plays avi and mpg in addition to the WMV and ASF files so you can either use a Windows program that generates those files from .mov format or you can use QT Pro to convert the .mov to uncompressed avi and then use Windows Media Encoder to make WMV files. Although it may be out there no one here has mentioned a PC program that converts directly from .mov format to WMV. There is a program for Mac OS that does it and I believe that company is working on a version for Intel Macs so it wouldn't be much of a stretch for them to port it to Windows.

I downloaded some home movies onto my IMac but could not find a way to burn them to a DVD.  Does Apple have software to do this or do I need to purchase one.  If so, what is recommended.

but could not find a way to burn them to a DVD.
Do you want to create a video DVD that will plan on a TV set via a DVD player or just burn the video files to a data DVD disk for storage?
If the former the read the following:
If iDVD was not preinstalled on your Mac you'll have to obtain it by purchasing a copy of the iLife 09 disk from a 3rd party retailier like Amazon.com: ilife 09: Softwareor eBay.com.  Why, because iDVD (and iWeb) was discontinued by Apple over a year ago.
Why iLife 09 instead of 11?
If you have to purchase an iLife disc in order to obtain the iDVD application remember that the iLife 11 disc only provides  themes from iDVD 5-7.  The Software Update no longer installs the earlier themes when starting from the iLIfe 11 disk nor do any of the iDVD 7 updaters available from the Apple Downloads website contain them.
Currently the only sure fire way to get all themes is to start with the iLife 09 disc:
This shows the iDVD contents in the iLife 09 disc via Pacifist:
You then can upgrade from iDVD 7.0.3 to iDVD 7.1.2 via the updaters at the Apple Downloads webpage.
Export the slideshow out of iPhoto as a QT movie file via the Export button in the lower toolbar.  Select Size = Medium or Large.
Open iDVD, select a theme and drag the exported QT movie file into the open iDVD window being careful to avoid any drop zones.
Follow this workflow to help assure the best qualty video DVD:
Once you have the project as you want it save it as a disk image via the File ➙ Save as Disk Image  menu option. This will separate the encoding process from the burn process.
To check the encoding mount the disk image, launch DVD Player and play it.  If it plays OK with DVD Player the encoding is good.
Then burn to disk with Disk Utility or Toast at the slowest speed available (2x-4x) to assure the best burn quality.  Always use top quality media:  Verbatim, Maxell or Taiyo Yuden DVD-R are the most recommended in these forums.
However, there are video DVD authoring apps that are available at the App Store that will create a video DVD disk.  They won't be as extensive as iDVD but can create a simple video DVD.
iDVD 7.1.2 is compatible with iDVD but we don't if it will be with the next system generation.

  • How to convert Oracle *.dmp files into something that SQL can read ?

Is there a method I can use to convert Oracle *.dmp files into .txt files? .xls files or something??
    Any and all suggestions appreciated!
    Thanks,

    Hi
you can't convert your .dmp file into text or xls file though you can see the contents of your .dmp file using parameter SHOW=Y in your import command. It will just show the contents of .dmp file and will not import the objects.

  • SSH Clients - What are people using?

What is everybody using for SSH clients to manage their boxes?
Anybody having any real problems getting SSH setup?
    Thanks,
    ~ron

    Hi Ron,
For Windows platform, Secure CRT is a good client , as well as Secure Shell Client. Sun box got SSH client build-in, it is in command line interface, quick and easy as well.
I am using all of them SSH to our cusomter's PIX and routers many times. It is very handy and easy to use.
For setting up SSH in a PIX , router , switch, it might only takes 5 minutes, here is the URL for that:

  • What should I convert my .mod file into to edit in imovie hd 5. ?

I have a JVC Everio GZ-MG505(japanese model)the ultra fine setting records at 720*576 pixels, 8.5 Mbps with 48kHz, 384 kbps audio
The .mod files stored on the hard drive is some kind of Mpeg-2 with Dolby(2 ch) annoyance! I have freeware called 'steamclip' Which coverts this file.
Should I covert it to DV(25),DVC pro(25) or Dvc pro(50)? and if I do should i deinterlace the video?
When it comes to converting to Mpeg I've got more options than you can wave a stick at, which has become bewildering,
    I can-
export to quicktime, Mpeg with all kinds of audio options
and there's an awful lot of demux options,
I tried imovie hd 5. once with mpeg and then with dv(25)
So what do you reckon? dv or some kind of mpeg variation?
Oh and you probably guessed but I'm trying to burn it to a NTSC DVD-R
I would appreciate any advice Thanks

    bitteschön (on your keyboard: alt-o = ö) ;-))
.. hmm, well, dv, esp for 'video' as on TV and in iMovie should be 48KHz, interlaced...
that segmenting is just for use with iM≤5, which does not allow import of files larger then 2GB in size...
frame blending is, to my knowledge, only needed if you change the framerate.. e.g. you have a 15fps iNet video and try to convert it into 25fps PAL... or you do a standard conversion NTSC<<>>PAL ...
... probably Matti Haveri meets this thread, he's our Streamclip specialist ... he has a 'tutorial' on his website http://www.sjoki.uta.fi/%7Eshmhav/SVCDon_a_Macintosh.html#edit_convertMPEG (Matti is a little ... 'shy' of using pics on websites ... )

  • Converting .MOV video file into FLV format?

Hello, I finished editting a corporate video for client and they want to know if I can also send them an FLV format video.
Does anyone know how I can do this.  I edited video in Final Cut Pro and used Compressor to export my final .mov video file.
How do I make this a FLV file?
    Thanks~

The best method would be to use a Flash encoder to transcode the video.  Do you have a Flash encoding application?
Another method would be to export an H.264 file of the video.  When it's finished, change the file extension to .flv.  It should play in later versions of Flash player, but won't play in older versions.

  • Converting an Excel file into a CSV with the DI API

    Hello everyone,
it's my first post and also my first project with SBO, As the topic's header implies I have to write a program which converts an excel sheet into a CSV file, I have been reading a little about the DI API, and I would like to have further information about how to use the DI to access file data and/or alter it, other than what is already listed in the tutorials.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Amin,
Unfortunately I am not aware of any way to this using only the DI API, it will be neccesary to include some other APIs or manual work.
Off the top of my head I can only think of two workarounds to this:
    - Using the recordset and Excel combined. Read all the data from one column in a table and write it to a column in an Excel file possibly using a loop. Once the process of copying all desired columns and their data is complete, save the file as .csv using the excel API. I'm afraid I don't have an example of this. (It also may be possible using Microsofts SMO or another database API rather than the recordset.)
With this approach the drawback is it might take a long time to figure out and develop in the short term, but in the long term would save alot of manual work as it could be automatic.
    - The alternative is unfortunately a manual approach: Simply run a query on the table, and then copy all the values from a column and paste it into the excel file.
This has no short term work but is alot of manual work in the long term.
    Hope this is useful,
    Regards,
    Niall

  • What are people using for displays?

I just got my MacPro a couple of days ago. I'm currently surviving with a 4+ year old Dell 2001 FP monitor that can do at max 1600x1200.
I have a MacBookPro 17 which can do 1920x1200. I'd like to at some point upgrade this older Dell monitor to something a little crisper that has a bit more resolution.
I don't think I need a gigantic cinema type display either. I'd just like a little more resolution. I also went with ONLY the ATI Radeon HT 2600 XT.
So what can I get which would look a little better and have a few more pixels? Recommendations?

I use a Dell 2408WFP, which is one of the Ultrasharp models. It's good, but not great. If money was no object I would've picked an Eizo of similar dimensions. But it is very crisp and bright, so much so I set it to 0/100 brightness, and 60/100 contrast - according to the directions given by my Colormunki calibrator software. I couldn't get the Dell calibrated using my previous GretagMacbeth i1 Display (v.1), which was giving me neon colors instead of accuracy. It (i1 Display) had worked just fine with my CRTs, but not the 2408WFP.

  • What are the benefits of converting my custom class into Data Control?

    Hi,
I have developed my own custom class which implements no of methods for execution of Business Logic. Now I have two ways to use the same -
*1. Create and instance of the same (wherever required) and call those methods.*
*2. Expose the class as Data Control.*
I want to understand which methods/technique is better and why?
Does creating that class as Data Control provides me better performance any other benefit.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Amit

    Hi,
    1. You use this if you don't want to use ADF bindings to access the business logic (e.g. to build input forms or table for it)
    2. You use this when you want to work with ADF. Additional benefits you gain is that you can specify UI control hints on the generated metadata, apply validation rules that are consistently applied to all uses of the POJO class. In addition you don't need to handle class instantiation and dismissal yourself anymore as the ADF framework takes care of it.
The base line though is "no data control - no ADF binding"

  • What are the size of 1080p HD video files recorded locally on the iPhone 6?

I am deciding between the 64 and 128 GB versions of the iPhone 6. Knowing the file sizes it records natively to will inform my decision.

Thanks a lot. After a variety of searches I found a thread on Mac Rumors that roughly substantiates this. Cheers!

  • How can i put a 3GP video file into i movie?

I have put all my baby sisters videos into imovie to make a CD...
but the most important one (the one where she was born) wont go in because its not the (mov) format, its (3GP). Can anybody help?

You could use QuickTime Pro to export your file to DV Stream. This .dv file will work with any version of iMovie.
Because your .3gp file has small dimensions the export will resize it and image quality will suffer.
