What are Push Notifications under System Services?

I have been having major battery drain issues under iOS8 (currently 8.1.3). I have been trying to figure out the culprit but so far no luck. In reviewing the Settings menus, I notice under Cellular -> System Services that Push Notifications total 13MB. I have most all of the Push Notifications turned off. The only ones that are on are for the Phone, Messages and Calendar (I am not sure what turning those off will do regarding incoming calls and messages so I left them on).
but I am on WiFi 90% of my day and so I am wondering what these Push Notifications are under the System Services settings of the Cellular menu? Anyone have any idea? I am wondering if this could be something that is causing the battery to be constantly eaten. 13MB is a lot of data for notifications, it seems.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Lawrence, thanks. You dropped in the other thread called iOS 8.1.3 - Battery Draining Very Quickly. I don't really think it's anything you listed. I restored my phone and set it up as a new phone on Saturday. the 13MB of Push Notification data is just from late Saturday afternoon when the set up finally finished. So for Push Notifications for phone, messaging and calender to rack up that kind of data is not right.
Actually, that probably is right. If you set it up as new it had to sync your entire calendar history to the phone. I don't know how large your calendar history is, but mine is every event for the past 15 years. If you reset it now and it still accumulates data quickly then there might be a problem. But when you set up as new everything must resync.
There is something going on under the hood of 8.1.3. The Push Notification numbers are listed in the cellular section of system services. Since Saturday, i have been on WiFi 90% of the time, either at home or at work. Why would there be cellular data used for Push Notifications when I'm on WiFi?
Possibly because you are not on WiFi when the phone goes to sleep, unless it is connected to power. iOS turns WiFi off when the phone goes to sleep to preserve battery life. WiFi (as required by the standard) uses power continuously when connected, whether you are transferring data or not. Also, Notifications do not go over WiFi; they go over the cellular channel, because that's the only way an external trigger can wake the phone. Once an app has received a notification if it needs to do a data transfer it can use WiFi (if it is on), but the notification itself is always over the cellular channel.

    WHat are push notifications?

Push notifications are a way for your apps to notify you of things without having to be open on the screen. One example is a turn-based game that sends push notifications each time it's your turn. Another example is a news app that sends you a push notification when there's breaking news.

Sorted - I followed the guidance to check eberything had installed but it seems the mobile devise was still there. Normal uninstall didn't work - I had to use C Cleaner but once I managed to uninstall it the install worked.

What are the settings for automatic service PO?

    Hello,
I would like to know if it is possible to automatically create the PR for services. It would be similar to MD04 but instead of being for stockable materials, it would be done for non-stockable materials (services in this case).
PR would be generated monthly, because this services have to be paid every month, for example electricity, water, rent, phone bills.
I hope you can help me, thank you!

  • What are the best storage systems to archive inactive (but still used) apps and files?

What are the best storage systems to archive inactive (but still used) apps and files of all types? I already have a Time Casule which I back up on and I'm needing to create more space in my flash drive in my Mac Pro, so I need another external storage system I can use to archive all that I don't currently need. I may still wish to edit and use the files, and I am not very techy and am a broke student... so anything grossly expensive is a no-no for me (between $50 and $200 is idyllic). If you could simply post links of different good/useful hard-drives that I can use, I'd be thankful.
    Thank you
p.s. I'm australian, so anything within this country would be great. Or I can deal with somewhere that has cheap shipping.

It's been moved and seconded. Any discussion? Yes:
Buy two external drives. Use one for Time Machine. Be sure this drive is at least twice the capacity of your computer's hard drive. Use the second drive as a bootable clone of your computer's hard drive. Should something happen you can immediately get the computer up and running from the clone until your restore from the Time Machine backup. This is what is called redundancy. Should either backup drive fail, there's another to take its place. Backup redundancy is very important. You can never have too many backups.

what are the Processor, Operating system, hard drive device, Total Memory, Network card, System Graphics of the Silver ipad air?

"Memory" in this case means RAM, the working space for the processor in the iPad. It is different from storage space, the latter being what is referred to by the "32GB", "64GB" etc. specification.

  • What are application events and system events? what is difference between ?

what are application events and system events? what is difference between ?

The Control Framework triggers the event irrespective of the screen flow logic, that is, without processing the PAI and PBO events. These events are called system events. This type of event processing is the default setting.
·The Control Framework processes the PAI module after an event. In this case, you must call method CL_GUI_CFW=>DISPATCHto initiate the event handling of ABAP Objects. These events are called application events.
Application Event : you must first register the events for the control instance and consequently on the frontend.
    like..
    DATA events TYPE cntl_simple_events.
    DATA wa_events TYPE cntl_simple_event.
    1. Using field
appl_event , define the event as an application event:
    wa_events-appl_event = 'X'.
System events are passed on irrespective of the flow logic of the relevant screen.
    1. Change the value of field
    wa_events-appl_event in the PBO module:
    wa_events-appl_event = SPACE.

  • What are the most important system preference files to have backed up?

This isn't specifically a Time Machine question but since it pertains to backup I thought it would be best here. In addition to backing up my entire system to an external HD using Time Machine I'm also planning to back-up critical files to an online service (Mozy) in case I should have a break-in or fire or something like that and not be able to recover either my laptop or my external HD.
I've started to identify some of the files I'd like to back up such as the encrypted database where my passwords are stored (Wallet) but I'm wondering what some of the other things I should back up are. What are the files that would contain important data that I wouldn't want to lose or would help get in me up and running more quickly?

    Hiya,
firstly, I would not recommend backing up anything *in isolation*. As all system critical files interact, and some are stored (invisibly) at various locations, including the volume header.
The "library" files (you'll find various ones, one in your actual bootup drive, one in your home folder, and one in your "system" folder) are, of course critical (see Dimaxium's post)
With a MBP, I'd recommend timecapsule or external firewire HDD (I had some excellent experience with LaCie 1Tb on Firewire 800 - incredibly fast).
What I'd do, rather than running Time Machine, which can be - of course - *very useful* (drawback, it uses the backup disk till full) is the following:
If you know your existing OS is pristine and works perfectly, I'd get external HDD, install Leopard (from Leopard disk), then use migration assistant and it'll create a clone (if you tick all the boxes - note article about the versions: http://macs.about.com/od/leopard105/ss/migratevol.htm ).
That way, the new disk has everything. And from time to time, just boot up, using your external HDD and update.
Bit more work, but that way, you got a fully functional "emergency OS" available anytime.

  • Why are push notifications from websites not working since 10.9.3?

Since upgrading to OS X 10.9.3 on an early 2013 15 inch MBP Retina(8 GB RAM, 2.4GHz i7), push notifications from websites I had authorized (e.g. CNN, NYT, 9to5 Mac) stopped coming in.  I figured I would wait for another upgrade to see if that resolved the problem, but it has not.  I do participate in the Mavericks beta testing program, but am now running the official OS X 10.9.4, not the beta version.  I did provide feedback via the feedback assistant for this issue to the beta program as well.  Also, I figured I would go in and delete the websites that I had listed under notifications in System Preferences, but there is no way that I see to delete them at all (only go from banner or alerts to none).  Lastly, I did add one site to notifications since upgrading and I am getting push notifications from that site, but only that site.  Anyone have any ideas?  Thanks!

Open the Library folder in your home folder by holding down the option key and selecting
              Go ▹ Library
from the Finder menu bar. Navigate in the usual way to each of the following items and move it to the Trash:
              Application Support/NotificationCenter
              Caches/com.apple.Safari/RemoteNotifications
              Caches/SafariNotificationAgent
              Safari/RemoteNotifications/Permissions.plist
Log out or restart the computer. Test.

  • Push Notifications under iOS4

Push Notifications do not function under v4 or 4.0.1. They work fine under 3.1.3.
I have tried restoring as a new phone several times to no avail. I went to see a "genius" who offered no theories as to why the notifications were failing.
I'm stuck at 3.1.3 for the foreseeable future, which means several of my apps won't run as I am unable to roll them back via the app store.
Any theories as to why my push notifications don't work? Push email/contacts/calendars are working via gmail's exchange servers, but applications notifications do not function.

It seems to be multitasking. Although a great feature, somehow I have noticed that when you have Mail running in your multitasking bar or whatever it is called (double-click home button), you don't get push notifications. When I shut down Mail fully (hold finger over mail icon till it wiggles, then touch the red minus icon) then go back to the home screen, suddenly I get push notifications. Obviously a problem with multitasking. (does Apple read this?)

  • What are the differences between Oracle Service Bus 10g and WLI 10g?

    Hi,
To me both Oracle Service Bus 10g R3 and Weblogic Integration 10g seem to offer the same functionalities for implementing an enterprise middleware.
I would be grateful if someone could:
    1. provide me with the two products' differences.
    2. describe what their roadmap is?
    3. what are their positioning in the Oracle product catalog? Are they both members of Oracle SOA Suite? Fussion Middleware?
    Thanks a lot,
    Best regards,
    Babis.

Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply,
Eduardo: the answer to your questions are that all the flows will be short-lived but if we can make long-lived flows then we might consider developing them. We would need to persist the state of the flow somehow.
I understand that some of our requirements would be better accomodated by WLI or bpel but we don't have an option but only to use OSB.
So, do you think we could overcome the stateless nature of OSB by:
    1. writing to appropriate tables and reading from there and calling plsql procedures from the flows
    2. using JMS queues.
    In detalis:
    1. Regarding the writing/reading from Databases (in our case it would be oracle 10g R2 - probably RAC), is there something like a Database control in WLI, which we could use in OSB? What i have seen are using xquery execute-sql function or a JCA DB adapter but both of them seem to me not very easy to use. Is there another option?
    2. Regarding the JMS, in case that i want:
a service that writes to a JMS queue what are the servicetype and transport that i should use?
a service that reads from a JMS queues what are the service type and transport that we should used?
Any information that you may share with me in the design and implementation of the above would be great.
    Thanks a lot.

  • Send Push Notification after Sync Service Updates SQL Database

I am using Sync Services to synchronize an on-premise database with an Azure SQL Database.  The Azure database is never updated directly - only through the sync service.    I'd like to send a push notification to a mobile app whenever the

    Hello,
When you say "Sync Service", did you means Sync Framework?
If so, the issue is more relater to the Sync Framework development, I suggest you post the question in the following forum:
