What are the best options to replace the SSRS parameter panel?

Hello.
One of the biggest weakness of Reporting Services is definitely the fact that we can't design ourselves panel parameter.
Indeed, This one is totally generated by SSRS and cannot be changed. Moreover its design and features are very limited. This weakness is a regular problem for me in my work, when I integrate reports into a web site, for example.
So, we are using some workarounds, such as using the ReportViewer object and fully develop report parameters ourselves in our website. But this is problematic because it must be repeated for each report, this is time consuming and the code behind must query
the OLAP Cube directly to fill the parameters values.
I have seen other solutions like to rewrite the CSS ReportViewer. But again, this is problematic because this change will apply to all the reports deployed on the server.
So, what solution you use? Have you found a magic answer? Or you let the default design?

hello,
Base on my experience, you may only use azure VM to host your project in your scenarios . Because your website and rest service used different program language.
In your scenarios , you could create Sql Azure database to store data and create VM to host web service and website.About how to host website on azure VM, I suggest you could refer to same thread (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/20034341/hosting-an-mvc-web-application-in-a-windows-azure-virtual-machine

  • What's my best option for replacing iDisk in ICloud?

What's my bet option for replacing IDisk in ICloud?

I would also have a look at SugarSync (www.sugarsync.com), it provides the same services as Dropbox but is not restricted to having to place everything in the single folder to sync.
You can select which folders to sync on your machine, it is much more flexible.
You’re not limited to the desktop or web, either as there are SugarSync clients for iOS devices
You can get a free account which gives you 5 GB of storage. Or you can get 30, 60, 100, or 250 GB of storage for between $4.99 and $24.99 a month.
If you have a Google account have a look at Google Drive, it comes with 5GB of space as well and is free. You can share your documents with anyone and even work with others on a document.
Also have a look at this article http://blogs.computerworld.com/18535/apple_icloud_replacing_idisk_iweb_and_galle ry which discusses exactly moving from iDisk to other services.

  • I am stuck. Can someone just advise me on what are my best options.

I have tried many ways now on how to create my CRUD phonebook application. I want to kno w what is the best way for me to create a contact object(that contains 2 strrings and 3 ints) and then save it to a file. My application will use a scrollpane to dsiplay all contacts and has 4 buttons for Create Delete Search and Modify. How should I save my contacts? To an array or an arrayList? Does an ArrayList allow you to search and modify one object? Aslo should I be saving my ArrayList if I use it as an object by using ObjectOutputStream and FileOutputStream or is there a better option? Please help.
Does anyone know of a tutorial that can teach me how to make a non database type CRUD application?

  • What are the correct parameter names for a JDBC pool connection?

Looking in the admin console I notice the differences in the properties name (type casting) of PointBasePool and __TimerPool pool connections properties and the create wizard properties.
PointBasePool and __TimerPool uses this name parameters: User,Password, and DatabaseName.
Create wizard uses these: databaseName, user, password.
So, then, what is the standard names for a connection in SOA8? What is the standard for JDBC?
For example, Tomcat 4 uses username, password, url, driverClassName as parameters names.
    Please help,
This is getting more and more confising,
    Thanks,
    Lorenzo Jimenez

The properties that you specify when creating the connection pool are unique to the vendor.
Any or the properties that you specify user, password, url...etc we expect to have setters (setUser, setPassword, setUrl)

  • MBP w/ retina 13" what are the best pysical security options?

Recently purchased a 13" MBP w// retina.  What are the best anti theft options? Cable? Type of connections? Key vs combination?

    Just your wits.
If it can be done, it will be done.
Any measures after the fact to get it back, like Prey or iCloud Find only might catch the local dumb thief who uses the machine online right away. Then they get a slap on the wrist and send their gang buddies to your house.
Most crooks let a hot item cool off, or sell it to a fence who will let it cool off and then send it to a crooked geek who knows all about Apple and tracking software. Then the machine is sold overseas stripped and costs too much time and effort to get it back or prosecute.
So if you don't want your machine stolen, dress it down and dont' show it off, keep a eye on it and think like a crook how they can steal it from you.
If your in a high human traffic all the time, better to buy a cheap PC instead, because people are arseholes to Mac users and will spill a drink on your laptop which will fry it in a second.
The locking cable attachment was removed from Mac's because it was too easy to cut the cable, there is a metal harness which can lock the machne to a desk if your interested. Costs a fortune.

  • What are the best archiving methods for small colleges?

    Hi Folks,
Im thinking a few terabyte hard drives will be my best option for a hundred dollars each.
We have a small operation here at a New England college with two editing systems that get a good amount of student use and use by myself for college needs. Some of the student work will get deleted at the end of each semester, but I need to save all the college's video.
What are the best ways to archive? Some of my concerns are cost and space. I can afford a few externals, do any of you have a nice cheap solution?
I understand if I am to go the route of archiving on externals I should have a backup of my backup, do any of you guys have any feedback on ghosting your backups, is that common?
    thanks
    Mike

If it's JUST for backup (not operation), you can get bare drives and either an enclosure for 1 or 2 drives with no tools trays (like the ones from Sansdigital: about $120 for a 1 drive enclosure) or a device like the UltraDock from Wiebetech (I use the latter). Physically install (or connect in the case of Ultradock) a bare SATA II 3.5" drive, connect it via USB 2, Firewire, esata, initialize/erase it, and then copy your files.
Then store the drive carefully in the foil anti-static bag it came in a dry location where it won't get jostled about by errant students (or kids in my house).
The savings in not getting full drive enclosures in the cost of multiple power supplies and interfaces. You pay for that once with the mountable enclosure / drivedock, and thereafter, just buy bare drives.
I also like another reply: have the students provide drives on which to back up their projects. A friend of mine has a ProTools audio studio, and part of his "set up" charge, is $100 for a bare drive that he will archive for 5 years, or the client can take with him at the end of the project (when the bill is paid).

  • What are the best specs when building a PC for video & where to buy in US?

Our current video machine has died - a problem we have constantly battled over the years with our video machines, primarily from the heat generated in the system. These have been spacious, well spec'd out desktops, so while I'm budget concious I thought I'd reach out for advice before going ahead. The biggest problems occur when  rendering video, esp. larger files.
Also, I'm visiting the US for a few weeks, so that opens up some new possibilities (it's common to see much better pricing for systems in Canada than the US.)
    So my questions are two-fold.
    1) What would you recommend for buying a PC video machine today, while still on a budget? I would normally look for a higher end i7 processor, 16 Gb DDR3 ram, dedicated video card, ASUS motherboard with raid 0/5 and a couple of decent sized harddrives (not striped... had terrible experiences with my striped drives in the past). In particular, what would you recommend on the video card front for the best value/performance while not creating issues with heat (this is where I've had problems with a number of machines in the past)? In terms of harddrive management, are there some better options now for handling real time editing and rendering? (I would like to connect the 2 harddrives from the machine that has failed to the new machine.)
    2) I'm in Ft. Myers, FL for the next couple of weeks... what are some good options for either having a machine built or getting the parts to build myself? (I don't need an OS, but will install Win 7 Pro myself.) Normally I'd look to TigerDirect or CanadaComputers for a new system.
My main use for the machine will be Premiere/After Effects, with some Photoshop/Illustrator.
Any other advice/input on how to optimize the machine so that I don't have HDD issues and other isssues from overheating would be appreciated. Please keep in mind, I'm on a budget (which means I'd ideally like to spend between $800-$1300). :-)
    Thanks!
    Julie

  • What are the best practices to extend the overall lifespan of my MacBook Pro and its battery?

Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility.  For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior;  DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.x is now Intel Mac compatible. Drive Genius provides additional tools not found in Disk Warrior.  Versions 1.5.1 and later are Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.  Dependence upon third-party utilities to run the periodic maintenance scripts was significantly reduced since Tiger.  These utilities have limited or no functionality with Snow Leopard or Lion and should not be installed.
OS X automatically defragments files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems. For more about malware see Macintosh Virus Guide.
I would also recommend downloading a utility such as TinkerTool System, OnyX 2.4.3, or Cocktail 5.1.1 that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old log files and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack.  If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the command line.  Note that AppleJack 1.5 is required for Leopard. AppleJack 1.6 is compatible with Snow Leopard. There is no confirmation that this version also works with Lion.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    Carbon Copy Cloner
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    SuperDuper!
    SyncTwoFolders
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup
Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQs on maintenance, optimization, virus protection, and backup and restore.
Additional suggestions will be found in Mac Maintenance Quick Assist.
Referenced software can be found at CNet Downloads or MacUpdate.
Be sure you have an adequate amount of RAM installed for the number of applications you run concurrently. Be sure you leave a minimum of 10% of the hard drive's capacity as free space.

  • What are the best settings in Compressor?

I generally have two main needs:
    1) 16:9 films (c. 25 mins or shorter) with sound to be screened in museums/galleries. Not HD.
    2) The same but online, just to give a flavour of my work (but pointless if it loses too much quality).
What are my best Compressor options? The films take forever to compress and I often find QT won't read them, or they come up with no sound.
I am hoping for two failsafe recommendations!
    Thanks.

    1) It all depends on what method is used for playback; if it's a DVD player, use one of the DVD presets.  If it's played back from a computer hard drive, H.264 or an MPEG-2 Program Stream should work.'
    2) For online, check with the site hosting the video to see which of the many formats they can use.  Chances are H.264 will work there, too ... but always check first.

  • Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André
