What are the blades in a server?

I know CPU, memory and HD size. However I do not know what are the blades in a server.
Would you please explain a bit? Thanks!

Symptom
You need to decide which main memory size you should use for the blades of your BIA landscape.
Other terms
BI Accelerator, sizing, main memory, RAM, 8 GB, 16 GB, 32 GB
Reason and Prerequisites
You need to decide which main memory size you should use for the blades of your BIA landscape.
Solution
Note: Based on the sizing of your system (considering main memory, CPU and including future needs of BIA resources) you should contact your hardware partner to get a BIA landscape optimally sized to your needs.
Supported main memory sizes
Currently, the use of blades with 8GB, 16GB or 32GB RAM is supported for BIA depending on blade and CPU architecture and depending on the hardware vendor.
Recommendations
SAP recommends to use the latest generation of blades with 16GB main memory.
This allows an optimal distribution of BIA indexes even for high loads due to a great amount of users. In addition to that, indexing performance profits if more blades are used in a BIA landscape.
Use of 32GB main memory size to avoid additional hardware costs
If the sizing for the BIA leads to a number of blades with 16GB main memory with just a few blades more than the number of blades fitting into an enclosure, then the use of blades with 32GB main memory should be preferred.
                    Example:
Assuming that your BIA sizing requires 480GB, which results in 30 blades with 16GB main memory each. Then you should order 15 blades with 32GB main memory instead, so you can avoid the usage of an additional enclosure. In addition to that, there is space for additional blades that can be used as backup blades.
Use of blades with the same main memory size
Heterogeneous BIA landscapes are supported in BIA 7.0 Revision 47 and later. But SAP recommends to use blades with the same main memory size for the best possible performance in scenarios with high loads due to a great amount of users.
Use of 8GB RAM main memory size
BIA blades with only 8GB RAM should be used only for very small BIA landscapes up to four blades. Use of those blades was introduced to fit to the needs of the SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) market.

  • What are the components I need to install on my apps server

    Hello All,
Our Oracle DB 10.1.0.3.0 is installed on Linux Server.
Oracle 10g Developer Site is installed on windows XP.
I have upgraded form & reports form earlier version 6.0..
Now I need to install Oracle Application Server on windows 2003 (x86) 32 bit.
    I never done this b4.
    My question is that ,
what are the components I need to install on my apps server to run Forms & Reports?
I am installing apps server on one machine.
But when I read documentation they said its better to install on two machine.
    Regards,
    Diana

    Yes,
I'm sorry to tell you but for forms and reports (BI) you need to install almost everything, you need to install an infrastructure as first components, and then a midtier for AS with Business Intelligence option, in this second component you can chose to install Reports, forms, OCJ4, Portal, any other component you need or you thik you will need in the future.
You can install both in one Server if you don't have resources for 2 or 3 thinking on load balance. It works fine for me in one server but my operation is not too big.

    Hi All,
What are the ports required for the Audio, Video and A/V conferencing when the following clients are enabled for QoS in Lync 2013 server?
    Client Type
Port range  and Protocol required for Audio
Port range and Protocol required for
    Video
Port range and Protocol required for
    A/Vconferencing
    Windows Desktop   Client
    Windows mobile App
    Iphone
    Ipad
    Andriod phone
    Andriod Tablet
    MAC desktop client
    Please advise. Many Thanks.

Out of the box, 1024-65535 for all of the client ports.  :)
    https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/gg398833.aspx
You'll want to tune your client ports a bit
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204760.aspx as seen here, and then the client ports would use those ranges which is easier to set QoS markings.  I'm not sure the mobile clients respect that setting.
Elan's got the best writeup for Windows clients here:
    http://www.shudnow.net/2013/02/16/enabling-qos-for-lync-server-2013-and-various-clients-part-1/
However, the marking of the packets is the tricky part.  Windows can do it via Group Policy, but for the other clients you'll need to have the network specifically prioritize ports regardless of DSCP markings.  You have to do it based on ports
as the traffic could be peer to peer.

  • What are the commands available to read a file from application server and

What are the commands available to read a file from application server and store the file into an internal table?

    Hi,
To read a file from an Application Server to an Object there is a command in ABAP called <b>READ DATASET</b>. After that file is transported to that object you have to do a loop and put that data in an Internal Table.
This statement exports data from the file specified in dset into the data object dobj. For dobj, variables with elementary data types and flat structures can be specified. In Unicode programs, dobj must be character-type if the file was opened as a text file.
For dset, a character-type data object is expected - that is, an object that contains the platform-specific name of the file. The content is read from the file starting from the current file pointer. After the data transfer, the file pointer is positioned after the section that was read. Using the MAXIMUM LENGTH addition, the number of characters or bytes to be read from the file can be limited. Using ACTUAL LENGTH, the number of characters or bytes actually used can be determined.
In a Unicode program, the file must be opened with an arbitrary access type; otherwise, an exception that cannot be handled will be triggered.
If the file has not yet been opened in anon-Unicode program, it will be implicitly opened as a binary file for read access using the statement
OPEN DATASET dset FOR INPUT IN BINARY MODE.
. If a non-existing file is accessed, an exception that can be handled can be triggered.
    Influence of Access Type
Files can be read independently of the access type. Whether data can be read or not depends solely on the position of the file pointer. If the latter is at the end of the file or after the file, no data can be read and sy-subrc will be set to 4.
    Influence of the Storage Type
The import function will take place irrespective of the storage type in which the file was opened with the statement OPEN DATASET.
If the file was opened as a text file or as a legacy text file, the data is normally read from the current position of the file pointer to the next end-of-line marking, and the file pointer is positioned after the end-of-line marking. If the data object dobj is too short for the number of read characters, the superfluous characters and bytes are cut off. If it is longer, it will be filled with blanks to the right.
If the file was opened as a binary file or as a legacy-binary file, as much data is read that fits into the data object dobj. If the data object dobj is longer than the number of exported characters, it is filled with hexadecimal 0 on the right.
If the specified storage type makes conversion necessary, this is executed before the assignment to the data object dobj. Afterwards, the read data is placed, byte by byte, into the data object.
    System Fields
    sy-subrc Meaning
0 Data was read without reaching end of file.
4 Data was read and the end of the file was reached or there was an attempt to read after the end of the file.
    Thanks,
    Samantak.

  • What are the differences between Oracle AS and Database Server?

    Hi
    I have quesstions:
1- what are the main differnces between Oracle Application Server 10g and Oracle Database Server 10g ?
2- does the oracle J developer 10g come with Oracle application server or comes standalone?
3- is there any integration between the three above application , and how it are working together?
    thanks
    Suhaib

    1) At its simplest level a Database Server is a database so for storing data and an application server is for running the applications (which will probably access the data in the database server).
    2) JDeveloper comes stand alone or as part of the Oracle Developer Suite which is a collection of tools for building applications.
    3) Yes they are integrated. More details on otn.oracle.com/products/ias

    Hi,
There are various differences between the two.
    1. SQL Server is only Windows, but Oracle runs on almost all Platforms.
    2. You can have multiple databases in SQL Server, but Oracle provides you only one database per instance.Given that the very term 'database' has s different meaning in the two products, this "difference" is absolutely meaningless.
    3. SQL Server provides T-SQL for writing programs, whereas Oracle provides PL/SQLWhich means what? Both products have a procedural programming language. They named them differently, and the languages are not interchangeable. Means nothing in comparing the features/strengths/weaknesses/suitability to purpose.
    4. Backup types in both are the same. (Except Oracle provides an additional backup called Logical Backup.)You make that sound like "Logical Backup" is something more than it is. It is nothing more than an export of the data and metadata. Many experts don't even consider it a backup. I'm sure SQL Server provides the same functionality though they probably call it by some other name.
    5. Both provide High Availability.Well, I guess they both have a suite of features they refer to as "High Availability". But what does that really mean? The devil is in the details. Remember, the two products don't even agree on what constitutes a "database".
    6. Both come in various distributions.???

If you are going for an Implementation, you can try SQL Server Express Edition and Oracle XE which are free to use.
Then you can choose whichever is comfortable for your needs.
    Thanks.

  • What are the steps to change existing sharepoint 2010 farm database server to a new server

    Hi
i have a sharepoint 2010 farm and backend with sqlserver2012 standard edition on windows server 2008 r2 server
now what are the steps to if  want to  connect this farm to a new sql server 2012 on windows server 2012 server and remove this existing server
    adil

    You have two options:
Use a SQL Alias and you will then need to swing all databases over to the new SQL Server
Don't use a SQL Alias and swing all but the Configuration and Administration databases to the new SQL Server, and individually re-configure Service Applications/Web Applications to use the new SQL Server. This will force you to keep the old SQL Server around.
