What are the performance tradeoffs when using more than one EntityStore?

Hi,
I have different accounts where each account has the same set of Entity classes. I don't know yet wheter to have one EntityStore for each account or have one EntityStore for all accounts together and do a lot of 'joining' when retrieving Entities.
This is a very similar use case as with the FAQ http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/berkeley-db/faq/je_faq.html#37 . The only difference is that I want to use DTP.
It would be great if you could answer me the following questions:

2.) How expensive is an EntityStore (memory, speed - creating and releasing)?
3.) What would you recommend? I have to do a lot of secondary-index lookups which are restricted to one account. There are about 10 Entity classes and about 1000 accounts.

I do not fully understand how the PTR pointer works
PTRs map IP addresses back to hostnames - also known as 'reverse DNS'.
The way it works is that when you (or any client) looks up an IP address they first query the root servers that maintain a map of the main IP address allocations. You then query the server that's authoritative for the IP address in question. That server may respond, or may further delegate responsibility to another server.
As an illustration, imagine a company - MegaISP - who's been allocated a large block of IP addresses - say 1.0.0.0 through 1.255.255.255. As an ISP they provide access service in all 50 states so they may further subdivide their network into chunks and delegate control of each chunk to a different server, e.g. 1.1.0.0 - 1.1.255.255 -> CA, 1.2.0.0 - 1.2.255.255 -> NY, etc.
Now you, as a customer of MegaISP, connect to their server and are allocated a dynamic address from the 1.2.0.0 - 1.2.255.255 subnet - let's say 1.2.3.4
When you perform a reverse lookup on 1.2.3.4 your query first goes to the root servers which say something like 'hey, those IPs are owned by MegaISP's DNS servers, so go ask them'. You then query MegaISP's main servers which then say 'hey, that IP is somewhere in the New York subnet, so go query the New York DNS server. Your query then goes to MegaISP's New York server that replies something like 'host-1-2-3-4.ny.megaisp.net' and that' your reverse lookup.
(of course, this is greatly simplified, and the whole process takes a fraction of a second, but hopefully you get the idea).
The problem you now have is that MegaISP have no idea what services you're running on your connection, so they just return a generic response (e.g. host-1-2-3-4.ny.megaisp.net) and not something that relates to your domain (e.g. www.yourdomain.net). Nobody knows to ask your DNS server what hostname your IP address should map to.
In order for that last step, MegaISP either have to change their DNS servers to map your IP address to your domain name rather than the generic hostname, or they have to further delegate your IP address's lookup to your own server (i.e. add another link in the chain - like 'hey, that IP address is delegated to yourdomain.net, so go ask their server').
Most ISPs are happy to either delegate or have a custom entry for your domain, but not on dynamic or residential-grade connections - it's not worth the time and effort to keep it up to date as your IP address changes, which is why it's typically only something that comes with business-grade services.

Any service that relies on valid reverse DNS is doomed to fail. For the most part, http doesn't matter/care, but don't expect to run a mail server or certain other services.

What Are The Correct Gray OS X Discs For This Imac?

I got a free 700Mhz G4, 15" Screen, 512mb Ram, 40GB HDD and I was wondering what are the correct OS X discs (Gray) that came with this Mac?
There has to be a serial or model number right? I have Leopard installed on it and I missing having the DVD player so could I connect the iMac to my PowerMac G5 using Target Disc Mode, and then install Panther or Tiger onto the iMac through it?

The correct Mac OS restore discs are Mac OS X 10.1.2 and Mac OS 9.2.2. I have restore discs for a 600MHz Late 2001 iMac G3, which has the same identical software as the iMac G4. That part number for the disc set is 603-0372.
For the second part of your question, you can install Panther or Tiger through Target Disc Mode from your PM G5.

You can turn on file sharing.. it will not interfere with your server since it has a different IP address.
You can use either device password or disk password.. do not use the profiles as that complicates things.. and Apple did not build in a link to Server to use standard user login which is a great pity.. when you have an active directory type setup it .. the TC could have been made a lot more business like.. However apple really have the TC aimed at the domestic market and users without a server.
What are you intending to use the TC for?
Most people would be better buying an airport extreme rather than TC when they are running business setup.

i just bought my first dslr, and i was wondering what are the major risks buying used lenses ?

You need to be able to inspect and test the lens.
Look for obvious signs of physical damage, drops, etc. (cracks, dents, etc.) A lens normally will get some signs of wear but as it's a used lens, you expect *some* wear... you're really looking for signs of damage.
Remove both front and rear caps. Look through the lens into a bright no-contrast background (a white wall, a blue sky, etc.) and check the optics. You're looking for signs of mold growth or damage to coatings. Minor dust on internal optics wont impact the lens performance... so while you wouldn't want major amounts of dirt... don't worry too much about minor bits of dust (I've actually helped prove this to someone by clipping a 3M PostIt note down to a tiny 1/4" x 1/4" size and sticking it on the front glass. Take a photo... nothing shows in the photo (even a piece of "dirt" that big wont show because the camera cannot focus on anything that close to the lens.)
Rotate the focus ring from end to end. You should feel a smooth and consistent amount of friction as you rotate the focus ring. There should be no rough spots. Listen to the lens as you do this... there should be no grinding noises.
Do the same with the zoom ring but in addition to checking for smooth consistent performance (no sticky or rough spots) you're also checking to make sure nothing seems excessively worn (nothing wobbles loose... very heavily used lenses can do that after enough wear.)
Connect the lens to the camera and make sure the camera can completely operate the auto-focus motors without a problem and/or if it's an image stabilized lens that the IS components are working.
Set the camera to max aperture (e.g. f/22, f/32.. depending on the lens) and press your camera's "depth of field preview" button (if you don't know which button is your DOF preview, check your manual. Canon tends to move that one around a bit but it's almost always on the front side of the camera near the lens mount.) You want to press and release it a few times. This will cause the lens aperture blades to stop down to the aperture you set. Release... do this while watching the lens. You should see the aperture blades move in and out (well... they snap in and out very quickly). You want to make sure it works ok, the camera gets no error codes, and there's no signs that anything is sticking.
And then there is the focus test...
Focus the camera preferably at a FLAT surface that has lots of detail.... such as the brick wall of a building. Make sure the camera is level and that the camera's focal plane is parallel to the plane of the wall. Take a test photo at low f-stop and inspect. You're checking to verify that the focus works and that the focus is reasonable across the image. As you inspect from left ot right and top to bottom you are looking to make sure the focus is more or less equal (if the right side of the image is focused... but the left side of the image is soft... it would indicate that lens elements are skewed (lens isn't collimated). What Is The Best Setting To Use To Import Music?Please Help.

I have got an 80GB Apple Video iPod And I am still trying to figure out how to work it as I am new to using iPods.
What is the best setting to use to import CD Music and Music from the Internet to iTunes?? as I would like to listen to the highest quality there is on iTunes and my 80GB Apple Video iPod.
The settings are: ACC Encoder, AIFF Encoder, Apple Lossless Encoder, MP3 Encoder, WAV Encoder. If you have not got them to hand.

There really is no BEST setting. The "best" setting is the one that sounds the best to you.
Having said that, you also asked what setting provides the highest quality audio. In that case, you need to use a lossless format, such as AIFF, WAV, or Apple Lossless. MP3 and AAC are both compressed formats, and will not provide as good of an audio quality as a lossless format.
My personal preference would be Apple Lossless, but any of the lossless formats will produce an almost identical quality to the CD track.
Keep in mind, the files will be quite large.

I bought a new Mac and I want to transfer my Adobe Creative Suit CS6 to it from my old one. What are the correct steps? Please note that I don't have a CD because I downloaded it via the net. It was an upgrade for the student edition. I heard something about deactivation and reactivation but I don't want to do something wrong then lose my precious software. Please help. Thanks.

You are allowed to have the software installed and activated on two machines, so there should be no reason to deactivate it on your other machine, or at least you can wait until you see it loaded and working on the new one.
