What are the drawbacks to adding a Site Content Type to the Document Site Column?

I have a client who has enough SharePoint knowledge to be dangerous.
They are requesting that a Column be added to all Document Libraries everywhere.  We built a solution that would require a bit of work when a Site Collection is created, and it would require that we run a script to identify if there are any Libraries
that do not have this Column attached.
This client wants to know why we didn't just add this Column to the default Document Site Content Type.  I don't know specifics as to why that's not a good idea, just that it's not a good idea.
Can anyone point me to a resource that identifies the reasons why this is not recommended?
Thank you

I'd say there's a risk that patches or upgrades could be affected by this, or overwrite the change.
In the past I've derived a Company specific Document Content Type from the Base Document CT, and added any new company wide columns to that new CT.

  • What are the document upload limits?

I have placed five document upload sections on a FormsCentral form that I have created. Are my customers going to encounter any problems with built in limits that do not allow more than one or three documents to be uploaded for a single form?

Only limit is file size. Total of all files uploaded cannot exceeded 20MB.

  • What are the Update tables?

In LO Delta scenario, Data posted parallel into document tables and update tables. What are the Document tables? What are the Update tables?
Give example for Application 11, which is document tables, and update tables?

    Hello Mannev,
Document tables are the actual application tables where the data is posted when you post a document in R/3.
Examples can be MSEG, VBRK etc.
Update tables are the intermediate tables which store data read from document tables. The V3 runs collects deltas in form of LUWs from these update tables and populates the delta queues.
    hope this helps..

    Hi Parminder,
BEA docs cover tweaking exec queues pretty extensively.
Could you provide more details on what kind of information
you are looking for or which concerns do you have?

    Hi
What are the main tables of SITs? How can I find out the tables related to SITs?
    Regards
    Rahman

PER_SPECIAL_INFO_TYPES: This table holds the definitions of SITs that are available to each Business Group. Each special information type is a user defined structure for the personal analysis key flexfield. The name of the special information type is the same as the name of the corresponding key flexfield structure.

  • What are the limitation or drawbacks of ESB?

Can any one let me know what are the limitation or drawbacks of ESB?
    Fred

    Hi Fred,
This is new question and different to this post's title :)
When it concerned to security of an ESB management portal, there are two more often used practices.
It’s being a web portal-a thin client, it can be accessed outside the BizTalk server- not like admin console (admin console can be accessed outside BizTalk server, it’s another matter). So
    that administrator can view fault
details when they get error alert and action faulted messages. Follow the steps detailed here to achieve this.
    Another practice is installing
    ESB management portal in
    multi-machine environment with minimal access
configuration, then here an excellent article step-by-step guidance on this topic.

  • What are the drawbacks of Selective color vs. curves?

What are the drawbacks of Selective color vs. curves?

There are no drawbacks to selective color that I can think of. The alternative is indiscriminate, wanton color which, as we all know, can get unruly and aggressive.
Similarly there are only advantages to curves, especially on the right body. The era of stick figure beauty is thankfully long past. Our culture now appreciates the organic esthetic of curves.
Beyond this, you may wish to consult the Photoshop forum. I suspect you'll get a very different answer there.

  • Has anyone developed a site for podcast in Muse?  If so what are the pro's and con's vs. using Wordpress?

have built a few sites in Muse and hope to host my podcast on a dedicated Muse created site.  I use BC for my sites.  Has anyone designed a podcast site in Muse and if so, what are the por's and con's opposed to just doing this with Wordpress and power press plugins?

one-armed is the easiest to install - less disruptive as you can keep your current network unchanged.
However, it requires special configuration to guarantee that the return traffic from the server goes back to the CSM.
This is done by doing client nat which will prevent the servers to see the client ip address and therefore to create statistic based on client ip.
There is a way to inser the client ip in the HTTP header, but it only works for HTTP.
Router-mode is easier to understand and troubleshoot.
The CSM is just like a router with vlans and routing between each of these.
It requires a minimum of configuration.
However, it is important to design correctly.
For example I would recommend not to have client accessing the CSM directly.
They should go through the MSFC first.
Then I would recommend to have only 1 vlan between CSM and MSFC- this is because the CSM only uses 1 default gateway even if you can configure many.
You never know which is active.
The CSM also expect the traffic to come back on the vlan it went out. If you have multiple vlan it is difficult to control on which vlan the response will come back.
Finally 'bridge mode' is good if you want to insert the CSM between the servers and their current default gateway without having to reconfigure the servers.
    This is a good solution.
Disadvantage is that all traffic from servers will go through the CSM and it is more difficult to avoid in case you really need it.
A little more complex to troubleshoot as well.
Conclusion: bridge or routing mode is ok - avoid at all cost one-armed.

    Gilles

  • What are the advantages to adding a server to my home/home office system?

What are the advantages to adding a server to my home/home office system?

It's hard to give you specific answers unless we know your current setup. Any server, or specifically OS X server, may not be appropriate for your workflow.
A server is a centralized computer which can act as a file repository for other computers and devices to access. It can also centrally manage authentication for other resources (ie, have a single sign in for multiple services), can act as a web server, a calendar server, and other features. Of course, many of those things are available from other providers, but having your own server means that you have more control (and responsibility) over them.

I did the obvious by pasting the web address in the allow content area under tools options. What are the other ways

    Hello,
    Thank you for your post.
I am afraid that the issue is out of support range of VS General Question forum which mainly discusses
the usage of Visual Studio IDE such as WPF & SL designer, Visual Studio Guidance Automation Toolkit, Developer Documentation and Help System
    and Visual Studio Editor.
Because your issue is about ASP.NET website programming, I suggest that you can consult your issue on ASP.NET forum:

  • What are the access permissions on Site Contents?

    Hello
I don't want outsiders accessing Site Contents.
What are the access permissions? Can anyone see that page?
    Mel
    Mel

Go to Site Settings -> Users and Permissions -> Site Permissions -> In the ribbon select Permission levels. Here you can see different permission levels like Read, Contribute etc.
You can create a permission level by clicking on Add a permission level. Select the permissions you want to give the users. "Make sure to not give the permission "View Application Pages  -  View forms, views, and application pages. Enumerate
    lists."
Now you can create a SharePoint group and associate this permission level to that group. Finally add those users to this group and they won't have access to Site Contents.
