What are the folder/file names of PSE12 catalogs?

I'm curious about what files/folders are created by PSE 12 when setting up the original catalog and then each subsequent catalog.  Also, what files/folders are created for the PSE backup and is there a default folder/file structure tied to the catalog - or is it wholely separate?

The catalog folders contain everything that is necessary for the organizer. The only thing you might consider is to take a note of your preferences settings. The backup folders also contain everything necessary; the only difference is that it may take some time to rebuild the 'cache' files automatically after the restore.
Put another way, I am moving many, many files off my current C: drive in order to install an SSD.  I want to make super sure that I catch everything PSE may have stashed here and there and get it out to "safety" before reformatting this disk.  Thanks for all the help you've been along the line.
The backup and restore process is highly recommended in your situation, but generally it's not the only way to 'move' catalogs and media libraries. Let's say you have all your media files under a single master folder such as 'My photos', you can use the Folder view (left panel) to drag and drop on another external or internal drive. Your catalog is then updated for the new location.
- advantage : you can check the transfer immediately
- drawback : you must be patient...
That's for transferring your media library, now you can also move your catalog folder, either manually or by using the catalog manager 'move' option.
So, the backup/restore process is not the only way.
If you want to keep only your Elements program on the SSD, I would not store the catalogs there, I'd store the catalogs in custom location in your old reformatted internal drive. You'll need an external drive for the backup. Alternatively, you could move library and catalogs to the external drive, and back to the old reformatted drive as explained above. You might even use the external drive for both purposes...

what is the exact file name for Adobe Photoshop Elements application?
I jsut downn laoded it and the alias does not work. in the  support folder I have an application titled Adobe photoshop Elements Editor and it lauches ok but when I got to import a photo it only asks for a frame from  a video.

You do not import anything to the editor. You just open things there using File>Open. Import is only for frame from video and for scanning if your scanner is compatible and you install the PSE twain plug-in.
If you wish to use PSE to keep track of your photos, launch Adobe Elements 11 Organizer instead of the editor.

you can find out the technical names (to include table and field names) by going to the fields themselves, and clicking on 'F1'.  the "Performance Assistant" will appear.  in this latter screen, go to the menu and click on the 'Technical Info' icon that looks like a hammer and wrench.  you will find your info there.

  • What are the data files in the Proxies folder?

In the iMovie Projects folder tree there are folders called Proxies. In that folder there is a folder called the name of the projects events folder, twice, with %20 for spaces and such. In that folder there are a large number of data files like 2010.data and such. What are these data files? In one case there are 861 of them and they take up 5.1 MB. Thanks.

An iMovie project is a bundle?
Yes. What appears in the Finder as a singel file is really a bundle of files.
    But what are they?
I can't tell you exactly - but I'm sure there's data there that allows iMovie to undo things you've already done, references the event clips used in the movie, thumbnails, backups, transitions you've used - that kind of thing.
I deleted them on a junk project and so no ill effect, though I didn't check all the things you can do with a project.
Even so, I'd restrict that kind of experimentation to junk projects.
Regardless of whether it's safe to delete them, I'd like to know what they are.
Fair question. I wish I could tell you more.

  • What causes the full file name to be listed with bookmarks?

Good morning! What drives RH to list the full file name in
bookmark code in some files, and in others its just the
href="#bookmark? If you change the file name...all the bookmark
links with full file names break. Am I doing something wrong when I
created them...? Not sure how that's possible...but something is
driving this! Any helpful hints from the masters online?

    Hi Teri
It's been my experience that if you elect to create a link
from inside the topic to a bookmark, and you choose the bookmark
from the dialog, you end up with a link that simply has the hash
    and the bookmark (#Bookmark).
Where you see the file name preceding the hash and the
bookmark, odds are the link was created by the user clicking the
bookmark in either the Project Manager or the Topic List and
dragging from there to create the link. When links are created in
that fashion (I'm addicted to creating links that way myself - it's
like crack to me - if I knew what that was like LOL) RoboHelp
creates the link with the file name (FileName.htm#Bookmark).

  • What are the iphoto files I need to restore iphoto library deleted from drive

A few days ago my hard drive started making noises and I was getting all sorts of errors.  I even got errors trying to do a time machine backup with the final error being "backup failed".
Earlier last week I imported a couple hundred photos of my kids from Christmas to present which also included our vacation last month.  I deleted the photos from my camera after the import.  Then foolishly, I didn't think to do any time machine backups between then and the time my hard drive started making noise.
I bought a new SSD drive.  I could still access the bad drive so I moved my pictures directory from the bad drive to the new drive.  It took nearly two hours.  It appeared to have moved everything, but it did not move the iphoto library.  The pictures directory is gone from the old hard drive.
I purchased FileSalvage and recoved thousands of deleted jpg files from my old drive, but none appear to be the pictures I lost.
It appears that FileSalvage will recover specific file types.  There doesn't seem to be a way to just tell it to recover the deleted "pictures" directory or recover "iphoto library".
If I was able to specify specific file names to restore, what files would I even need to specify?   I have iphoto 11.
I came across an article about iphoto library files from iphoto 6 and previous versions which explained the following iphoto files: library.iphoto6, albumdata.xml, Thumb32Segment.data, Thumb64Segment.data, ThumbJPGSegment.data, etcxxxxx.
    mmm
Does iphoto 11 use similar file names?  I'm not concerned with keeping my iphoto database in tact.  I just want my pictures.
Maybe I'm asking the wrong question.  Any advice on how to get my pictures back would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!!
    MH

Simply, you can't recover the iPhoto Library. What you need to do is try recover the Photos that were in it. These will be saved as jpeg files* and that's what you need to search for. Recovering all the other files will do no good. You won't be alble to reconstruct the Library. Your aim is to get the Photos and then start over.
The search may find many files of the same name, try to recover the largest files - they are most likely to be your originals.

  • Sluggish and then (Not Responding) in RH 8 -- what are the lilo files?

RH 8 has had severe performance problems with a particular Help Project for the past few days:
like 3 or 4 words behind my typing.
not even opening a topic if I click on it
not closing any of the open topics when I click the X in the topic tab
Today when it quit working altogether and sent a log file off to Adobe, I peeked into the content before it was sent. I'm using version 8.0.0.203
Further, a temp directory has 1.35 mb in 178 files all of which read lilo<7-digit number>, all of which were generated today. I know because yesterday I cleaned out my temp directories...including thousands(?) of lilo1515548 files, and today, with virtually no "work" accomplished (outside of publishing to a different server location),  I have a whole new crop. The guts of these files is machine code (squiggles, with telltale references to ColdFusion, JobReady, RoboHelp,RoboInfo,FreeHand, FrameMaker,Homesite,LiveCycle,Flashcast,PostScript etc.). The only Adobe product I have installed* and am using is RoboHelp 8. It makes me wonder...what's going on with RH? Are there product updates I don't know about?
*except, of course Adobe Reader, but I'm not using that.
Does RH 8 'get sick' (I am working on a project I created with a try-b4-u-buy version of RH 7. Is this causing the hiccup?
I found PeterG's suggestion to add the BaseCSS_res.dll to my RH ...\RoboHTML\en_us folder. And that helped A LOT! But I want to know how to address the lilo files that are growing like cancer in my temp folders.
PS: I cross posted this because the first and only Adobe hit for 'lilo' was in the InDesign SDK. So I posted there first. But, since I'm not using that product nor doing SDK stuff, I'm adding this to the RH user group.

    Hi there
Where are your projects when you are working on them? Have you applied the patches to version 8? (There have been two released)
If you say your projects are on a local area network drive, there's your issue. Move them to your local C drive and stand in awe of the speed improvement. (not to mention reliability)

  • What are the blob files on the agents?

    Question:
    In /opt/local/aduva/director_agent/blobs/
There are multiple files with the suffix .blob
    What are they?
    Answer
The blob files are the actual software packages downloaded by the UCE server from the Universal Software Component Repository. This occurs once you have approved the installation of a component and are not downloaded again if they are present in the appropriate directory.
This may be Solaris patches or RPM files depending on the managed channel of that host.

To see what the file is type on the command line
file xxxxx.blob where xxxx is the name of the blob. the file command will return the name of the rpm or that the file is a script.

  • What is the preference file name?

    Hi,
When I watch a video within Safari it works fine, but when I want to open the full screen version, all I get are horizontal lines.
I have had the same problem with iPhoto, and Toad told me to delete the pref file, which worked. I deleted the Safari pref file, but nothing changed. Can someone tell me the name of the appropriate pref file to delete?
    Thanks,
    Klaus

I tried this in both Safari and Firefox and had no problem in full screen mode, so there's something odd about your system that is causing this. It's a Flash video, so it's possible that it requires the latest version of Flash, which is 9.0.124. You can check your version here: <http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/>, and if you need to update, get the most recent version here: <http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash>.
It's also possible that you have an Input Manager that is conflicting with the Flash plugin, and the only way to check this is to go to Users/username/Library and create a folder named InputManagers (Disabled) and move all the items in the InputManagers folder to that one, then restart Safari and see if the problem manifests itself. If not, then that's a sure sign it's one of those Input Managers. To find which one(s), you would have to add them back one at a time, restart Safari each time and test that video until you encounter the problem again and that will be your culprit.
If that still doesn't work, you could always download the video directly by opening the Downloads window in Safari and pasting this URL into it; the download will start immediately: <http://video.spiegel.de/flash/32432420x315_VP6576.flv>. It's 4.7 MB in size.
After that, you should download and install the Perian preference pane, which will give you the added functionality of being able to view Flash videos in QuickTime, since it doesn't natively support that format. Once that is done, you can open the video and play it at Double Size, which is equivalent to full screen size in an 800 x768 browser window.

  • What are the weird files that start with ._ that pc users get when I send zips?

When I send files that I zip using Stuiffit to pc users they get the files plus an equal number of files that start with ._ Does anybody know what these are and how to get rid of them?
    Thanks!

Dot files are invisible files that OS X uses to display positions of files and folders icon for instance when you open a folder.
That is indeed what a .DS_Store file does, but that's not the ones Bogies is referring to.
There are various other items that start with a period, such as .Trashes. Every drive gets a trash folder, just as Windows does to each of its drives. While it hides its own trash folders from view, Windows doesn't recognize OS X's version of the trash folder, so you see it.
But you're likely talking about these. Every file you copy from OS X to a DOS/Windows formatted drive gets a ._ file. The Mac OS has a twin file system; the data fork, and the resource fork. Windows has only a data fork.
In order for OS X to maintain the resource fork data on a Windows drive, it has to write the resource data as a separate data fork file. So a file named foo.tif will also get a ._foo.tif file on the drive. Mac users don't see them since UNIX automatically hides anything that starts with a period. When you copy the file back to OS X, the data and resource fork info is combined again into a normal Mac file.
Most of the time, removing these are no big deal. They hold simple data like Type and Creator codes, modification dates, icons, etc. Others, like Mac Type 1 PostScript or Mac legacy TrueType fonts have all of the font data in the resource fork. Delete the ._ files for those types of fonts, and you're left with nothing.

  • What are the premier file types

I see a lot of rendered file types in my disk directory after several editing sessions. I also see several types of files like pek, cfa, xmp. Is there somewhere that I can find the file types?
I'm trying to clean up my directories but am concerned about deleting them without knowing what they are and how they relate to each other.
    Any help appreciated
    Thanks,

    Atlcenter
cfa and pek are conformed audio files, you can delete them. The program will regenerate them automatically when and if it feels that it needs them.
Find the Media Cache Files folder location (probably loaded with GB amounts of cfa and pek files by looking in Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disk and Media Cache.
Those xmp files are information files which you typically do not need, but check out to what they are associated before deleting any.
Also, clear the mcdb files (conformed video files). See Edit Menu/Preferences/Media.
Check out the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder in the Adobe Folder. They can be deleted. Consequence is you will need to Timeline render the related content in the project to get the best possible preview.
Let us start here, and then let us know how the clean up is going.
Under no circumstances delete, move, or rename source media that went into a project after it has been saved and closed.
