What are the numbers next to individual emails? e.g. 2,3

When checking emails some emails have a number listed next to them. When I click on the email it only shows one attachment or one email. I have a few emails that have either a 2 or 3 next to them.

The numbers indicate that there is a thread of emails that relate to the message.

  • What are the numbers next to the "Building edges from DisplayObject"?

    Dear colleagues,
Could you help me to understand what are the numbers next to the “Building edges from DisplayObject”, please?
    renderMode=direct
    depthAndStencil=true
    Scout 1.1.0.
    Scout log file http://townden.com/forum-pictures/numbers_next_to.flm
this is test on iOS iPad 1 -- animation of dragon
Thank you in advance for help,
    Vlad

The number "x 3" means that "Building edges from DisplayObjects" happened 3 times. The time shown next to it is the total time for all three of these activities. The same is true for "Calculating dirty regions x 2" - it means that it happened twice. You shouldn't worry too much about the number of activities though, just the total time for them - e.g. if Flash Player didn't have anything to do, it might finish an activity almost immediately, and this would show up in Scout with a negligible time (e.g. a few microseconds) - that's not something you should worry about.
If you want to understand the display list rendering operations better, you can read the article here:

Try using a different browser.  Some browsers to not get along well with the Adobe links/interface.

  • What are the numbers preceding some posted questions

I tried to seach for this, but nothing came up. What are the numbers I see before some posted questions.

Is there a link to the Support Community from the KB article that automatically puts the KB number in the new discussion. I couldn't find one.
Or does the person creating the discussion manually put the article number in the topic.
I now know what the number is, I just don't understand how it gets in the new discussion topic.

You have to click the "Play" button and wait a few seconds for the "progress" line to move part way across. It's working OK for me......... you have got broadband, haven't you?
Yes Ian, I do have broadband. But sorry, I do not quite get what you are trying to say in the earlier sentence ?
The 3D applications others have mentioned cost hundreds of dollars, so unless you are very keen or well-heeled, they won't be much use.
I can't help you with your effects as they sound rather complex.
When I do something I try to be open-minded as it often makes life incredibly easier. I have an effect in mind but if it proves too difficult I swop it for something similar but a lot simpler.
Often the alternative effect can end up looking better than my first idea!
Frequently the only people we satisfy with complex effects are ourselves ....... other audiences barely notice them.
Yes, those are too expensive, some cost more than FCE itself. I will try to alter the animation.
But I have bought Bluff Titler, not bad !

  • What are the numbers before some Apple Forums?

For example, before the title of a questions on Apple Support Communities, I see numbers such as HTS312 and TS4054. What do these numbers mean?

That is the code number of the Apple article from where the poster of the question first went in research of their problem and started the thread at the bottom of the page with "Start a Discussion".
Just go to one of those discussions and you'll see at the top where it originated and you can click on the link.

  • What are the icons next to the printer name in the print sheet?

Ever since I upgraded to OS X Lion, I have noticed something different in the print dialogue.  First the technical info: I am using a 2009 Mac Mini (4 GB RAM, OS 10.7.3) and I have a couple of printers that I use - one is a Brother laser printer (shared from an iMac, running 10.6.8) and a Canon Pixma Pro 9000, connected via USB to a Time Capsule.
When I hit Command-P to bring up the print sheet, I now get icons on the left hand side of some of the printer names in the printer list.  One looks like a road sign - diamond shaped with a walking person in it, and the other is a circle with a wavy line (tilde?) in it.  The other printer names have no icons next to them.  I gather that the circle-and-tilde means "printer not available" (or something similar) - even though the printer is there!!! And then I wonder why the other printer names have no icons, and I have no clue what the "walking person" sign means.
I'm adding a couple of images so you all can see what I'm talking about:
What do these icons mean?  I can find NO reference to them - even in Apple's knowledge base article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4670 - this just looks like the screen shots from the 10.6 Snow Leopard page.  I looked in the OS X Lion Missing Manual, but it has the same screen shots with no explanation of the icons.
This is pretty minor, but it's been bugging me for a while.   Any explanation or reference to these icons would be appreciated!

Wow, impressive, thank you!  Is there a listing or other resource available that can tell me what all these symbols mean?  Or are they the only ones?
This Mac 101: Printing article mentions some of the icons you will see in 10.6. And there is also the Mac 101: Printing article for Lion that shows some symbols. Neither show the icon you are seeing for the Brother but this is icon has been around for a while and used for warnings/information alerts.

  • What are the limits in sending an email from Mac to AT&T iPhone?

I have relative with whom I communicate often. He refuses to answer his iPhone (iPhone 4 I think) - he always uses text messages. I have a G3 phone with a TINY qwerty keyboard so I have taken to emailing him from my Mac email client.
I would rather count the characters in Word than wonder if he is going get it all.
I know MMS has a much greater character limit than SMS, but what is it?
How do I force the email to BE and MMS message to gain the extra capacity?
Does iPhone get an AT&T email address like the text email address - so that it would show up in iMail?
         ([email protected])          ([email protected])
Do I need to get his exact specs - iPhone madel, iOS version, etc?
I am not sure what other, if any, questions to ask. I just want to send the goofy guy texts without causing any heartaches.
    Thanx in advance
    CCC

Porting your number over the AT&T can be done in store and easily... The one thing I would like to stress is it can take upto 48 hours to port your number over to AT&T. Usually your voice goes first then it can take upto the 48 hours for your text messaging to work correctly. This is extreme but expect the worst, for this example do you really think Verizon is going to place their fastest employees on a job assignment that they know they are losing their customer. No teleco will be fast in losing a customer.

  • Leopard, Tiger, Panther, Calico, Alleycat - what are the numbers?

I'm getting so frustrated by references to these made up names when all I want is to understand something in a specific OS.
"About This Mac" talks in Version numbers.
Everywhere else the references are to cat names.
    I got a G4 running OS 10.3.9
And I got a Mac Pro running OS 10.4.11
How about making this consistent and simple?

This is why the gods invented google. It is perfectly consistent and simple.
Just look at your install CD or DVD or your manual.
I won't get into G4, G5, MBP, Santa Rosa, Aluminum, etc.
Then there is quartz, cocoa, coffee, Aqua and on and on.
    A simple google turns up:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacOSX
    That's a good start.
But just remember your best friend is google for stuff like this.
It's not frustrating at all, in fact it's fun, like car models and airplane types.
    Enjoy

  • What are the numbers on top of fields?

    Hi,
One of our users has the following when opening forms. The fields all have a number hovering over the top left of them. This both hides the value in the cases of check and radio boxes, and shortly after, the whole program crashes.
The form opens and works correctly elsewhere, and on the same PC as another user.
Any idea whether this is a user setting somewhere or how else to fix?
    Thanks

    Thanks,
    Any idea how to turn these off? I can see some other people have had the same issue but no real solution yet;
