  • What are the maximum temperatures for my MacBook Pro?

    I have this MacBook Pro (3,1). I know there are maximum temperatures at which the system will shut itself down in order to prevent damage. I know this because I have seen it happen a couple of times
    When I run Windows, apparently the OS doesn't care to throttle power in order to reduce dangerous heat like Mac OS X does. I now have a program that monitors CPU and GPU heat when I run Windows 7, and it will sound an alarm if they reach a pre-set ceiling.
    My question is, how do I know what the emergency shutdown temperature is so I can set the alarm limit appropriately (low enough to trigger before catastrophe, but high enough that it doesn't trigger when things are still okay)?
    This page from Intel seems to be telling me that the CPU should not go above 100°C ...does that seem like the number I'm looking for?
    Nvidia doesn't seem to say anything about temperatures on the product page. User forums seem only to speculate on what is or isn't safe with no real specifications to back them up.
    How can I find these numbers, either from Intel & Nvidia, or from Apple? Or, is there a general ceiling that I can go by to make sure my alarm warns me before an emergency shutdown?

  • What are the side effects of setting "_object_statistics=false"?

    Hi,
    On a 10.2.0.3.0, due to frequent ORA-04031 errors, we have been recommended to set objectstatistics=false in init.ora and bounce the database.
    Metalink Bug ID: 3519807
    Going through the available documentation on net, I found that this parameter would have same effect as setting STATISTICS_LEVEL=BASIC or even worse.
    Documentation (for statistics_level) says following options are affected.
    * Automatic Workload Repository (AWR) Snapshots
    * Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor (ADDM)
    * All server-generated alerts
    * Automatic SGA Memory Management
    * Automatic optimizer statistics collection
    * Object level statistics
    * End to End Application Tracing (V$CLIENT_STATS)
    * Database time distribution statistics (V$SESS_TIME_MODEL and V$SYS_TIME_MODEL)
    * Service level statistics
    * Buffer cache advisory
    * MTTR advisory
    * Shared pool sizing advisory
    * Segment level statistics
    * PGA Target advisory
    * Timed statistics
    * Monitoring of statistics
    We have daily schema statistics gathering schedule in place so I feel query performance should not be affected (of course, this is my assumption).
    I just wanted to know what else would be affected due to this.
    Thanks in advance.

  • The Macbook Air is running on a 1.6Ghz processor speed, what are the side affects to this significantly low speed?

    Why would one prefer the MBA over the Pro when, at the same price (Air at 11inch and Pro at 13inch), the Pro seems to excel?
    What is more important? Flash storage or the hard drive storage? (yes I am hinting at the fact that Air has the flash and Pro has the hard drive) Say that I am using Macbook for daily usage, not much heavy lifting operations but would still like the opportunity to do something more than simple with my computer if necessary

    This is an Apples/Oranges question.  The MBA is a easy to tote, on the go computer whereas the 13" MBP is more of a workhorse, but a relative heavyweight compared to the 2.5lb MBA.  And then there's the storage, 128GB verses 500 GB.  If you only will have one computer, I would say go with the MBP.  And with a bigger screen to boot.
    That said, I am getting rid of my MBP and have switched to the 11" MBA.  I did get the 1.8Ghz upgrade along with the I7 upgrade. IMHO, with the SSD, my little MBA has some real "pop".
    If you want my 11" MBA, you'll have to pry it out of my cold, dead fingers.
    Disclaimer: I also have a home 21.5 iMac for the big home jobs.

  • What Are The Side-Effects of Alpha Shred Supplemen...

    I touched my very early 30s in 2012 and also have actually been experiencing several hormone adjustments in my physical body ever since. My power degrees stooped down and also my endurance reduced down very. I was in a fantastic demand of assistance when Alpha Shred became my buddy. Making use of a supplement for getting muscular tissues could possibly be a favorite for some however, the majority of us be reluctant considering the adverse effects it could create. Alpha Shred is such one item which is devoid of all sort of negativeness as well as just flourishes to offer the very best of outcomes versus the weight gain. It functions effectively as well as abrades all the fatty tissue collection from different locations of the physical body as well as assists in the inflating of muscular tissues. It gives us the power as well as endurance to function harder in the health club to make sure that we could enhance the synthesis of healthy protein in our physical body. By doing this we work out even more and also exercise even more and also then gain protruding out muscular tissues. • What are the best printers multifunctional for MacBooks?

    Hello all,
    Any recommendations on what printer to buy?
    Thanks
    Diana1

    I have been using the HP LaserJet M1536dnf MFP printer/scanner/fax/copier attached to an ethernet port on my wireless router via Snow Leopard, Lion, and Mountain Lion (all functions currently working over the network), as well as using its AirPrint capabilities from an iPod Touch and iPad.  When I got the printer last year I did have to upgrade the firmware, via a USB cable from my Macbook, to get AirPrint support, but I would hope HP is now shipping the printers with that support already included.
    This is a networked, Gray Scale Black & White laser printer, with built-in Postscript support.
    I lean strongly towards laser printers with Postscript support.  1st because B&W laser printers print longer without running out of toner (except maybe the initial toner cartridge).  2nd, as time goes by, the drivers for the scanner/fax functions may not be updated for an old printer, but generic Postscript drivers are generally always available, so I should be able to at least print to the device for as long as it still works.
    If I want something printed in color, I'll take a USB thumb drive to a drug store and get some color prints.

  • What are the parallels memory requirements for MacBook Pro?

    I am looking to buy a new MacBook Pro - either 13 or 15 inch model.  I will be running Parallels with Win 8 and MS Office Pro.  The 13 inch MBP only comes with 8 GB - the 15 inch with 16 GB, but it is expensive.
    Can I get by with 8GB and an i7 processor on the 13 Retina?

    Currently Windows in Parallels works fine with 8GB, but now that the RAM limit gloves are off with 64bit processors and operating systems Apple and others are bloating their operating systems and associated programs (like web browsers etc) as to keep the likes of Google's Chrome browser from being turned into a platform.
    So in simple terms the 16GB and the better performance of the 15" is going to save you money in the long run as you will have to buy a newer machine less often, also it has a dedicated graphics processor so 3D games and other more intensive graphics can be used. Even for normal use the 15" runs cooler than the 13" as the two heat sources are separate on the logicboard.
    The 15" also has a larger screen, so it's easier to use, also it will run more than one operating system a lot better than the 13" will.
    Also the 15" will be able to handle more OS X upgrades than the 13" as Apple releases a new one every year or two.

  • What are the upgrade options for 2008 MacBook Pro A1260

    I am curious to see what my options are to upgrade my hard drive compared to upgrading completely to an entirely new computer.
    Any suggestions?

    Reliable ram: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade.  Very well known vendor, very reasonable prices, and ram comes with a lifetime guarantee.  As far as reliable hard drives, I can give you brands that I have had no problems with.  Hitachi (still running strong 5 years + in a pc laptop), Samsung, and Western Digital.  Here are some reviews on hard drives: http://www.storagereview.com/best_drives

  • An Entire cup of coffee was spilled on the side of my MacBook Pro, it was in my purse, port side up. They were filled. I'm assuming the board or whatever is fried. If I go to apple tomorrow, what are the odds that my hard drive will be salvageable?

    I'm usually good at backing up my photos and documents, but the last 2 months of pictures and videos are on there and not backed up anywhere. I'm heartbroken.

    "What are the odds that my hard drive will be salvageable?"
    Very very good, it's all sealed and only a large electrical surge or dropping it while running could do some damage.
    Take it and use a SATA to USB adapter you can get online for $12-$40 and hook it right up to the new Mac and use Setup Assistant or Migration Assistant to transfer files.
    OR you can access the drive directly and on a PC with MacDrive installed.
    However the Mac itself is likley a goner.

  • What are the different ports required to Deploy(Run) an application in NWDS

    Hi all,
    We have a issue here in deploying our application in NWDS. As we are accessing our servers(from another country) thru firewalls in between, most of the ports are blocked for security reasons,henceforth, we are unable to deploy our application in NWDS.
    Initially port 3601 was blocked, now its open.when i try to deploy my application , it prompts for a SDM password, after i enter it , it gives me error saying it can't process thru 50018 port.
    So my query is , to build,deploy and run or debug  a application in NWDS what are the different ports that needs to be accessable ?( so that i can tell my basis guys that all this specific ports need to be opened )
