What are the pro alternatives to Compressor?

I've been compressing a lot of material recently, mostly shot on DVCPRO HD and edited on FCP. What's been happening is that some - but surprisingly not all dissolves - are breaking up into pixels or rather blocks of pixels. The problem, as I've recently found out, has been documented here so I won't waste anyone's time agonizing over it. I'll just say that using Compression Master, Sorenson Squeeze and bitVice produced artifacts free files right off the bat.
What's infuriating about the Compressor is that every time I try to test a short piece from the middle of the sequence, it compresses fine but then when the whole 20 min sequence is compressed the problem comes back.
I've tried CBR, closed GOP, IP structure etc as suggested in one of the posts and it did get rid of the pixelation but I'm still not happy with the results. The picture looks a bit soft and washed out. Shockingly comparable to a well compressed random, internet downloaded DivX file that I can play on the same player. Is it the Compressor, DVDSP or the true nature of the DVCPRO HD format showing its ugly face?
What are the professional MPEG encoders that could save me all that headache? I'd rather pay good money and finally get it done right than spend my time beta testing software that is clearly not ready for the prime time.

Never had problems whit Apple Mail. Till I updated to Maverick.
First problam was Gmail after updating to Mavericks, Apple mail went to download all my old mail's over 6800. Just delleted my Gmail account form the list to stop it.
Second issuu memory.
First dit not now what was te problem till I found out that Apple Maill took over al my memory. Try differened tip and trick of the Apple Forums. This one works the best. Other users had the same problem after Mavericks.
I restore my Accounts.plist form before the Maverick update.

  • HT204053 What are the pros and cons of 1) choosing to use the SAME Apple ID for iCloud services on one side, and purchases on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore, on the other side; or 2) to have and use two separate Apple Ids for these "two sides

All is in the title, so I repeat it below with a better identation.
What are the pros and cons of
    1) choosing to use the SAME
Apple ID for iCloud services on one side, and
purchases on the iTunes Store, App Store, and iBookstore, on the other side; or
    2) to have and use two separate Apple Ids for these "two sides"?
    P.S.
I have loads and loads of free podcasts in iTunes in my iMac, that are certainly more thant the 5 gigas the iCloud provides for free, so I don't want those to go to the cloud. But this is perhaps a different question...
Also need to mention that I have itunes on a mac, a pc and an iphone.
Sorry to look so silly with this question, but I don't get the "big picture".

You need to create a user account for your wife (or yourself depending on who has the current user account). When syncing, each of you should sign in as a separate user, login to iTunes and then sync. I had this problem when my sister got an iPhone. When we did her initial sync, everything on my iPhone showed up on hers. Apple gave me this solution.

  • What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?

    Hi all,
1.What are the pros and cons of installing java+abap stack for portal?
2.what effect it does on the ume options to be choosen??
3.for the purpose of integration of r3,bw and crm on portal and crm 4.0 60.2.3 business package which option of stack(java or abap or both)will be good option and which ume option while installation should be choosen?
    regards
    Rajendra

    Hi Rajendra,
The NetWeaver Installation Master Guide offers some good scenarios on the pros and cons:
    https://websmp201.sapag.de/~sapidb/011000358700005412792005E.pdf
    In a nutshell:
    ABAP+JAVA
    Pros
    - Decrease # of servers required to administer the portal
    - Less costly
    Cons
    - Upgrades could be dependent on ABAP and Java release level
    - Additional load on the server due to ABAP stack
    - Limited scalability
JAVA and ABAP on separate server
    Pros
    - Improved performance
    - Allows each system to be single-use purpose therefore downtime does not affect other components
    - More scalable
    Cons
    - Adds complexity to landscape
    - Additional costs

  • What are the pro's and con's of the 4s?

I am not yet an owner of the 4s iphone. So what are the pro's and con's of owning the white 32gb iphone 4s? I have had the white 32 gb iphone 3gs for two years and until I get a job I will not be buying the 4s I so need.

Samplers do alot of things, what do you need a sampler for?
Korgs remind me of alot of presets and alot of verb and chorus. I guess if you're posting here you already have EXS and want more sounds or more functionality and if the korg thing is true you lean more to sampling/synthesis than instrument recreation (as in you probably aren't going for VSL if the korg caught your ear). Independence looks really cool, it's quite new. Kontakt is demanding and very flexible, both include huge libraries and I know kontakt has tons of great filters, FX, modulation. It also needs a pretty strong update-which is being dealt with after a year or so.

  • What are the pro's and con's (samplers)

-I hate to beat and dead horse, but Im about to buy some new software, and I trying to make the best choice--
What are the pro and cons of the major samplers (Im looking for a more radio-ish sound, motif/triton/phantom).
i.e:mach five, sampletank 2l, exs, and kontact
(a poster here said Colossus, ive need heard of it are used it--or HALion(is this only for pc's)--gigastudio(same questions as halion).

  • What are the pros and cons re using an intel iMac vs MacPro with LP8?

I'm considering getting a new intel Mac in the near future (presuming a new MacPro will be released in the near future - maybe at the same time as Leopard). I compose largely for film and television and I am composing largely using a combination of loops, software instruments and some recorded live performance. I usually sync to a low res quicktime movie.
I do like the idea of a simple and uncluttered work environment with an iMac, added to which there's also a degree of portability with the iMac however the MacPro is obviously more powerful. I'm not sure how much the difference in power between the two computers would affect me.
Would I be compromising myself much if I went for the iMac over the MacPro? What are the pros and cons of the iMac vs the MacPro in relation to Logic Pro 8?

In the world large-scale music composition using samples, loops, etc (especially for film) your two biggest needs are RAM and HD speed/access. The imac looses big time in this department (as a single computer at least) as it can only be upgraded to 4gb ram, and only holds one internal HD, and also lacks any PCI expansion for DSP cards, audio interfaces, etc.
In generalyou want to separate your data vs applications as much as possible, to ensure both can be accessed quickly and easily by the computer. So its best to have your system software / applications on one internal HD, and your logic data (samples, audio recordings, loops) on another drive(s). You can do this with an iMac via USB, FW800, & FW400, but depending on how big your projects get, how many USB and FW drives / interfaces you use, and how much data you need to stream, you could overload the buss on the imac (not sure if it has multiple busses or not). Plus speed wise, internal SATA are much faster than external drives, and the mac pro with its 4 internal slots seems like a great choice for speed and flexibility.
However, if you dont find yourself doing large scale projects, then you might be better off going with an imac. We just purchased one for my father and it runs great! It blows the socks off of my Dual 2.5 G5 tower in terms of CPU speed! If you run into problems running things from the imac, you could always add a mac-mini down the road to stream sample libs, as a Logic node, etc, which seems to be a much more cost effective solution.
I hope this was helpful, but I probably just made the decision harder . In fact, if I were to start over today, I dont know if I'd go with a MacPro, or an iMac / mac mini combination. they both seem to have their advantages / disadvantages.
    Best of luck!

Convenience.  I always had an Archive Mailbox.  I used to have to select and drag, now I select and click a button.

  • What are the pros/cons of having 1 large BI system versus 2 medium systems?

What are the pros/cons of having 1 large BI system versus 2 medium systems?  Are there any known limits as to how large a BI system can be until it experiences performance problems?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I dont think there is any limit as long as your DB and Apps servers support it.
There are case studies on systems from 20 TB to 60 TB.
Regarding having two meduim installations it may not be a right choice if you consider facts like routine maintenance, DB upgrades and reorganization, number of resources required, number of DEV and QUAL servers required (this will increase as each PROD requires one DEV and one QUAL atleast).
If you have a single PROD you can do away with this.
One DEV , one QUAL and a single team of dedicated resources are required to maintain the system.
    Try this Help files.

  • What are the pro's/cons of the iphone

hi there you lucky Americans, can u tell me what are the good and bad points of the iphone
    thanks

    Cons:
Have to have the phone activated before you can use ipod and wireless features. No AT&T contract = iBrick.
    No custom ringtones.
No "`" (the accent grave) on the keyboard. Probably only the French will care, and Apple probably doesn't care about the French.
Sub-par browser with no Java/Flash support. No choice for real browsers (Opera or Firefox) is allowed.
    No video mode/zoom on camera.
    No 3rd party applications.
No stereo bluetooth support. You have to use the wired headphones to listen to music in stereo.
Things that are cute the 1st time (the slider you use to open the phone) are annoying by the 10th time.
    Pros:
Cost of phone keeps Apple employees off the street.

  • Has anyone developed a site for podcast in Muse?  If so what are the pro's and con's vs. using Wordpress?

have built a few sites in Muse and hope to host my podcast on a dedicated Muse created site.  I use BC for my sites.  Has anyone designed a podcast site in Muse and if so, what are the por's and con's opposed to just doing this with Wordpress and power press plugins?

one-armed is the easiest to install - less disruptive as you can keep your current network unchanged.
However, it requires special configuration to guarantee that the return traffic from the server goes back to the CSM.
This is done by doing client nat which will prevent the servers to see the client ip address and therefore to create statistic based on client ip.
There is a way to inser the client ip in the HTTP header, but it only works for HTTP.
Router-mode is easier to understand and troubleshoot.
The CSM is just like a router with vlans and routing between each of these.
It requires a minimum of configuration.
However, it is important to design correctly.
For example I would recommend not to have client accessing the CSM directly.
They should go through the MSFC first.
Then I would recommend to have only 1 vlan between CSM and MSFC- this is because the CSM only uses 1 default gateway even if you can configure many.
You never know which is active.
The CSM also expect the traffic to come back on the vlan it went out. If you have multiple vlan it is difficult to control on which vlan the response will come back.
Finally 'bridge mode' is good if you want to insert the CSM between the servers and their current default gateway without having to reconfigure the servers.
    This is a good solution.
Disadvantage is that all traffic from servers will go through the CSM and it is more difficult to avoid in case you really need it.
A little more complex to troubleshoot as well.
Conclusion: bridge or routing mode is ok - avoid at all cost one-armed.

    Gilles

  • What are the "forum alternatives"?

So if Adobe really does start to come around and consider the fact that this "Jiveware" is not working out to everyone's satisfaction, has anyone discussed or researched the alternatives yet?
Obviously they have had their own internal research but it doesn't mean we can't help and make suggestions based on well functioning examples of high traffic forums that we may have seen on other sites.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software
Wiki has a section here (if the link works) with "subarticles" that contains ASP, PHP, and "Other" forum software comparisons.
It's not like Adobe is the only company that has a long list of high volume forums out there--what do others use?  I'm sure it's not Jiveware.

They need to forget about pandering to youtube-facebook-twitter-games-playing youngsters with short attention spans. They need to consider what the most valuable members of the forums want and need - those people are the ones to nurture, not the ones who arrive in a panic and don't much care what the place looks like as long as they can get rapid, authoritative help.
The people to consult should be easy to identify, and they are by no means all 'Community Experts'. Whoever makes these decisions should eat humble pie and find out what it would take to get back the real experts who have left. If that has to be NNTP, so be it. If it means speed, reliability, permanent log-ins, stripped-down-efficient-speedy-interface, go back to where you left off - concentrate on that.
I'm not saying that those who mainly ask are not important, of course they are - they are customers and it's important to attract/retain them.
But unless the unpaid 'staff' are in place, ready and willing to answer a lot of questions as patiently and accurately as they always have, the place will just fall apart. It will become a place where link-harvesters and drive-by posters play around, giving each other half-arsed answers and squabbling over points.
I'm definitely not one of the 'elite' of course - so my only real suggestion is to ask the people who matter most, and DO WHAT THEY SAY.
