What are the required settings to enable HTTP Compression?

I am running into download speed issues with some of my clients.  I am looking for ways to improve download response without having to rewrite my system(s).
On the server side, I am using CF 8.01 on a W2003 system.  I have enable HTTP Compression for the web site in IIS 6.0 for both static and dynamic files.
On the client side where I am doing my testing, I am using IE 8.0 on a W7 professional system.  In I.E., I have enabled HTTP 1.1 under advanced options and am using Automatic mode as the download methodology for Temporary Files.
It is my understanding that there is nothing that I have to do to CF to enable HTTP Compression.
It does not appear to work because the downloaded cfm files (5717 and 694389) are the same size regardless of these setting.  In addition, I am using HttpWatch to determine all of the time and size parameters for each request. HttpWatch tells me in the summary that there are no HTTP Compression savings; i.e., HTTP Compression saving: 0 bytes.  Based upon some of the info I've read on the web, I would have expected 50% to 75% savings since the two files being downloaded are both dynamic text files.  All of the graphics, javascript, css files are cached so they do not figure into the equation.
Is there something else beyond the IIS and IE settings that needs to be done to implement HTTP Compresssion???
Thanks in advance for your suggestions/help.

Adam,
I have read the references and may now be confused, but it seems to me that just doing the standard IIS Manager setup, which is what I've done, will not compress CFM files since the only things that are compressed under dynamic files are exe, dll and asp.
One would think that CF should have added CFM to the list of compressed dynamic files when it was installed as it does with default.cfm, but maybe I'm expecting too much.
If I am correct about this, then it would seem that I'm going to have to customize the compression setup as described in this quote from the reference,
"Specify additional file types to compress. Edit the ... HcScriptFileExtensions metabase property (for dynamic files) to apply compression to additional file types."
Am I misunderstanding this document???

  • What are the required settings for Quality Certificate

    Hi Team
What are the required settings for Quality Certificate for Raw material from vendor. This is my RR - Result Recording  for inspection lot.
Please sugget me T-Code to view this.
Can I see say for 6-9 months RR done insp. lot.
    Thanks

Settings for Quality Certificate for Raw material from vendor,
Activate QM Procurement key, enter qm control key with certificate and Enter certificate type in certificate field.
    There are 2 cases,
u want details of certificate send by vendor
u want to record results and see inspection lot wise results.
    case1
depending upon the certificate selected by u, system will give u warning or error msg for certificate confirmation at the time of gr. for confirmation QC51 t_code is used. here status has to be changed to 'filed and inspected' then gr will be allowed.
all these certificates can be dispalyed in QC55 T_CODE.
    CASE2
U can record results and see in inspection report tab in QA33

  • What are the security settings to lock down a form with fillable fields and yet allow someone with Reader to fill in the fields as will as save the form and print it?

What are the security settings to lock down a form with fillable fields and yet allow someone with Reader to fill in the fields as will as save the form and print it?

You want to allow someone to open your document and fill out the form (in the fields you have created), but not change or edit the form, right? Here's the answer - assuming you are using Acrobat Pro and someone will be opening the PDF using at least Acrobat Reader 9 and up:
Tools > Protection > Encrypt < Encrypt with Password
Answer YES to change the security.
    A new window opens:
Do NOT select Document Open (or that will require a password to open the document.)
Select: Permissions (Check the box next to "Restrict editing and printing of the document.")
Change the following 2 settings from the drop-down box:
              Printing Allowed: Select High Resolution
Changes Allowed: Select Commenting, filling in form fields, and signing signature fields
Leave selected: "Enable text access for screen reader devices for the visually impaired"
Change Permissions Password (insert a strong password)
Leave all other settings alone in "Options"
              OK - OK
Re-enter the Permissions Password (the one you entered above)
              OK - OK
Save the PDF to apply the security [notice that (SECURED0 will appear after the document title]

  • What are the normal settings to connect to wifi?

I visited my friend over the weekend and her school required me to change my airport settings in order to connect to the internet. Ever since I got back, I have been unable to connect to my usual wifi source. If I can, it drops off after a few minutes. What are the normal settings to connect to wifi?

As a minimum, the following would be the "normal settings" to connect your Mac to an unsecured Wi-Fi network. These settings can all be found in System Preferences > Network > AirPort or Wi-Fi > Advanced
TCP/IP tab: Configure IPv4: Using DHCP
Proxies tab: Nothing should be checked on this tab, except the "Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV)" option.
    Hardware tab: Configure: Manually
On the Wi-Fi tab, you may also want to delete any Preferred Networks that you are not using.

  • What are the best settings for a retina display image?

If we Export for Web then view it on a retina display monitor, the image lines look blurry and it's not as crisp as non-retina display monitors.
What are the best settings when intended for retina display monitors while keeping the file size down?
    Thanks!

Mark, yes a DVD will play back on a HDTV, just the quality will not match the capability of the playback device. This is certainly the easiest approach though.
As the article you referenced says, ensuring that your previews are set to a larger pixel dimension than your required output will ensure maximum quality, given that you will more than likely have movement on the images in the slide show I would suggest going with pixel dimensions that are at least 1920px.
Let us know how you go.

There is no one haard and fast rule on the video rate, but you can start with the standard 16:9 presets and go from there (adjusting fram controls and rates as needed)

  • What are the best settings to use for the newest AirPort Extreme (AC wifi) with my optimum online service provider?

I have the current generation of the AirPort Extreme and a handful of devices that utilize the new 5Ghz A/C frequency. My internet speeds were blazing fast when I had first set it up but lately it has been lagging terribly. I was told that changing my dhcp did help, which it did it seems like it might be back to its normal speeds but I just want to know what are the best settings to configure for the airport so that I can get the most out of my service on all my devices? I'm using a CAT 6 cable which does help, I have a guest wifi setup with a wifi password which I understand will slow it down a little. Can anyone just point me in the right direction or just give me a step by step guide on what settings to configure? Should I really consider turning off the guest network?

I am assuming that you are looking to configure your network to provide the highest level of bandwidth possible for your network clients. If that is the case, the following are a few things to consider:
The Internet modem should support Gigabit Ethernet. That is the Ethernet connection between the modem and your 802.11ac AirPort Extreme should be Gigabit Ethernet.
Use CAT-5e or CAT-6 Ethernet cables between all wired connections.
Only expect 802.11ac performance with 802.11ac clients in the same room as the base station.
Eliminate or significantly reduce any forms of Wi-Fi interference on both the 2.4 & 5 GHz bands.
When streaming, especially HD video on your local network, use wired connections between the host and player devices when possible.
Other than the above suggestions there are no "magic" settings that you can make on your AirPort. Note: The Guest network shares the same bandwidth as the "main" network. Unless you have a network goal to provide this type of network, it is best left disabled.

Exporting photos for UHDTV or Native 4K TV, what are the best settings ? (File: Quality File: Color Space, Image Sizing and resolution)   Or in other words; How can I get the smallest files but keep good quality for display on new UHDTV

You're welcome, and thank you for the reply.
    2) Yesterday I made the subclips with the In-Out Points and Command-U, the benefit is that I've seen the clip before naming it. Now I'm using markers, it's benefit is that I can write comment and (the later) clip name at once, the drawback is that I have to view to the next shot's beginning before knowing what the shot contains.
But now I found out that I can reconnect my clips independently to the format I converted the master clip to. I reconnected the media to the original AVI file and it worked, too! The more I work with, the more I'm sold on it... - although it doesn't seem to be able to read and use the date information within the DV AVI.
    1) Ok, I tried something similar within FCE. Just worked, but the file size still remains. Which codec settings should I use? Is the export to DV in MOV with a quality of 75% acceptable for both file size and quality? Or would be encoding as H.264 with best quality an option for archiving, knowing that I have to convert it back to DV if I (maybe) wan't to use it for editing later? Or anything else?
    Thank's in advance again,
    André

  • What are the ideal settings for my TC with Shaw's Cisco DPC3825 router/modem

My old 2nd Gen Time Capsule crapped out and now I am about to set up my new 2TB TC.  My provider is Shaw Communications and they have upgraded me to their Broadband 100 Mbps service.  This came with a new modem/router combo made by Cisco and is model DPC3825.  Before I start plugging things in I'd like to know what are the ideal settings such that I gain the most of the BB100 service.  Should I be setting the Cisco modem/router to Bridge mode or the TC?  Should I have Shaw disable anything?  Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Unless you specifically need to have the TC perform as the main router for your network, life will be a lot easier if you configure the TC to operate in Bridge Mode.
Whether the Cisco modem/router or gateway can possibly be configured to act as a simple bridge mode modem is one thing to consider.
Whether Shaw would support you in the event of any connection difficulties with the modem/router configured this way is another.
Since Shaw is your provider, it might make sense to talk with them about best practice as far as configuring the DPC3825.
Once you have that information in hand, you will then have the answer on how best to configure the TC.....which will very likely be in Bridge Mode.
