What are these applications that minimalist looking desktops uses?

Hi,
I have started to envy the desktops looking like this: http://ompldr.org/vNmt1dQ , but I can't identify what is being used in order to get a desktop looking like those. Can you tell me what kinds of applications are used in that picture. Like, which window managers, panels, the things in applets, or whatever you can see on that desktop.
Also, if you are one of the people with those kind of looking desktops, can you tell me which kinds of applications do you prefer in general, along with the ones that are appearant on that picture.
Thanks in advance.

yasar11732 wrote:I have found that picture on one of the share your desktop threads, but I am not sure if I could find that one again. And, what I was wondering was more particularly, the bar at bottom that says chat files etc. And the upper bar where volume is shown, and other gauges are also there. What kind of panel is that? And also, the part above the panel list some of the open applications, does that person uses two panels one over each other, or is it something else?
The gauges and info (top bar and right bottom bar) are probably a combination of programs like conky and dzen2. The left bottom bar is probably inbuilt from the windowmanager, the programs listed above that are probably from tmux or  'screen' (terminal multiplexers that allow multiple 'windows' of terminal programs).

  • What are the entities that can be re-used in different servers, SI App, SI instance? And how?

    Greetings,
What are the entities that can be re-used in different servers, SI App, SI instance? And how?
    e.g. can I use a deployed IQStreamable@app1  into app2?
    can I use a deployed observable/app1/siInstance1/Server1 into another query/app3/siInstance3/server2?
On the presentation titled "04 – Installing, Deploying and Maintaining the SQL Server 2008 R2 StreamInsight Runtime Engine" with file name SQL10R2UPD05-DECK-04.pptx on ecn.channel9.msdn.com/o9/learn/SQL2008R2TrainingKit/Presentations/SQL10R2UPD05-DECK-04/SQL10R2UPD05-DECK-04.pptx
It is mentioned one of the deployment option is "Deployment: Standalone Server"
    and it mention the following:
"Use this option for the following scenarios:
    - Metadata objects need to be shared between applications
      - Event Types
      - Adapter Types
      - Query Templates
    - A data source registered with the server provides an event stream for another existing application"
Could you please provide good example that explain the above statement?
    Cheers, Muhammad

First, that statement - and those materials - refer to the "legacy" StreamInsight query/adapter model. They do not refer to how things work with the Reactive model introduced in version 2.1. Specifically, it talks about Dynamic Query Composition (DQC).
You cannot use a deployed Observable in another instance of StreamInsight. You may be able to use them across applications in the same instance - off the top of my head, I'm not sure. I'm getting ready to get on a plane but will take a look at it later.
Typically, however, applications act as containers (comparable to .NET AppDomains) so I don't think that you'd be able to do this easily. That said, the code and assemblies
can be reused across multiple instances/applications. You would have separate instances of the classes involved but you would be able to reuse the query logic. That's a common use case.
Can you be more specific about your use case and what you are trying to accomplish here? It's possible that there are alternative ways to do what you are trying to do.

  • What are these files that keep appearing on my desktop and how can I stop them from showing up?

Ever since I've upgraded to OS X Mavericks, I've had these strange files show up on my desktop. The trouble is that they show up even a little while after I delete them. Here's a few examples:
    141441.jpg.part
    IMG00019-20111209-2353.jpg.part
    IMG00062-20120927-2351.jpg.part
I've done a few virus scans, but they showed no viruses. Why are these files always popping up and how can I prevent them from appearing on my desktop again?

You need to delete Bitdefender from your Mac. It will cause you nothing but problems.

The best way to prevent malware from being installed on your Mac is to enable Gatekeeper.
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy then select the General tab.
Make sure either Mac App Store or Mac App Store and identified developers is selected. If that area is grayed out, click the padlock icon to proceed.

  • Flash Builder Profiler - what are these classes that appear?

Right so the problem is that we are trying to garbage collect games which use a lot of classes. When garbage collecting the main bulk of the remnants AFTER all the instances have been collected it
still leaves about 400-500k of "classes".
When drilling down in to the classes we can see all the various classes that were used in the games  and where they were FIRST instantiated but the Allocation Traces (attached screenshot : AllocationTrace) is usually a garbled mess.
When the Allocation Trace does specify a location in the code it usually defines where the class was first instantiated, however all instances of that class and the class itself have all been garbage collected.
Are these actually class definitions and is it possible to garbage collect them ?

  • What are these features and how can I use them?

Why do I have SDM Profile, Dyanmic private IP, Pay per message, Mobile Hotspot provisioning,   My mom is on the same account and does not have these.  Everything I look at points to enterprise stuff and administration.  I'm not aware of any of that.  Verizon seems to act like they don't know but it's right on my bill.  My VM seems to be funky too.  I had to change my phone number because of unknown video texts being sent.  Something is still not right.

If these are items listed on your account as features, I think there are supposed to be there.
I know I have that dynamic IP address one for my smartphone. So I suspect it is associated with the smartphone provisioning.
The mobile hotspot provisioning would depend on what kind of plan you have.
The pay per message is probably associated with your text messages so your phone will receive and send them.
The other one I'm not sure about, but it could be something associated with the SIM card.

  • What are these white lines on my desktop?

That's on the bottom right of my desktop. This screencap doesn't quite capture the "glowiness" of the lines. (The desktop is an anime cartoon, if you're wondering what you're looking at. That's just the bottom right corner.)
They disappear when the dock comes up or when a window's running, so nothing's wrong with the display.
Thoughts? Annoying the **** out of me.

Perhaps it is something on the image you have as the background, but its sort of cut off?  Doesnt look like anything to do with the computer hardware or software.  Did you try changing the background to see if it is still there?

  • What are the applications that work with time machine on lion?

  • What are these folders (.wlstaging & .wlnotdete) for?

    Hi all,
Could anyone tell me what are these folders:
    (a) .wlstaging
    (b) .wlnotdelete
    used for?
I've tried to deploy a simple WebApp from JBuilder 6 to WLS6.1. My WAR ends up in the .wlstaging directory instead of the application folder, anyone know what could be the cause of it?
Also, I noticed that when I test out my WebApp, WLS creates a tmp_myserver_myserver_mywebapp folder for me in my project folder instead of in the .wlnotdelete folder, any suggestions on how to change this?
    Thanks for the help!

that's where iTunes stores the cover art for your media files. it's completely normal. you will want to keep those unless you have manually embedded artwork in your files.

  • What are the objects that support variables?

What are the objects that support variables?

Using Variables: The Variable Wizard and the Variable Editor
    Definition
Variables are parameters of a query that you defined in the Query Designer and that are filled with values when you execute the query or Web application. They serve as a store for characteristic values, hierarchies, hierarchy nodes, texts and formula elements, and can be processed in different ways.
The processing type determines how a variable is filled with a value for the runtime of the query or Web application.
There are different types of variables depending on the object for which you want to define variables. These types specify where you can use the variables.
Variables are reusable objects. This means that when you define a variable for a query in the Query Designer, this variable can be used in all other queries. Variables are not dependent on the InfoProvider, only on the InfoObject. A variable that you define for an InfoObject is available in all InfoProviders that use this InfoObject.
    Use
Variables enable you to customize queries flexibly (parameterize the query) possible. If you use variables in the Query Designer, do not select any fixed characteristic values, hierarchies, hierarchy nodes, texts, or formula elements. Instead, set up variables as place holders. These are then filled with values when the query is running (when you insert the query into a workbook, when you refresh the workbook or when you execute the query on the Web. You can use one query definition as the foundation for many different queries if you use variables.
You want to create one query for all the people responsible for customer groups, who each only evaluate the data for one customer group. In the Query Designer, you insert a variable for the characteristic u2018customer groupu2019. Just before the query is executed, decide for which customer group(s) you want the query to apply to.
There are two tools in the Query Designer for designing and changing variables.
The variable wizard takes you step-by-step through the process of defining a variable. Each individual step is context-sensitive and is adjusted according to the combination of variable and processing types used. This means that the variable wizard only offers the selection options that are permitted for that combination of variable and processing types. For more information, see Defining Variables with the Variable Wizard.
The variable editor dialog box offers all of the selection options for changing an existing variable. The individual fields in the dialog box show the settings affected in the variable. You can change these settings here. If you want to make the changes using a step-by-step process with explanatory texts, you can jump to the variable wizard using . For more information, see Changing Variables in the Variable Editor.
    Integration
The variable wizard and the variable editor are functions in the Query Designer and are context-sensitive.
In principle, the two dialog boxes appear wherever you can enter constants (that is, values) in input fields. One of these input fields is the Entry of Variables checkbox.  If you select this option, the following options for using a variable appear, instead of a fixed value:
    ·        The variables that are available appear in the dropdown box for the input field. You can select a variable from the dropdown box.
    ·        The symbol  Change Variable appears next to the Entry of Variables checkbox. You can change the variable using  . The Variable Editor dialog box appears.
    ·        The symbol  New Variable appears next to the Entry of Variables checkbox. Choose  if you want to create a new variable. The Variable Wizard dialog box appears.
By way of an example, when defining conditions for the value limit of the condition, you can not only enter fixed values but also formula variables. Mark the Entry of Variables checkbox and you can then use the options described above. The settings are context-sensitive so that the formula variables that only those formula variables that are available appear in the dropdown box.  The variable wizard is set up automatically in the same way for entering formula variables.
You can also get to the variable wizard and the variable editor from the context menu of those objects for whose values you can define variable placeholders. From the context menu, choose New Variable. The SAP BW Variables Wizard appears. In the context menu for variables that have already been defined, you can choose Edit. The SAP BW Variables Editor appears.
In the InfoProvider objects dialog box, you select a characteristic (for example, Order) and from the context menu, choose New Variable. You reach the variable wizard, which is already set up for you to enter a characteristic value variable.
In the InfoProvider objects dialog box, you select a characteristic value variable and from the context menu, choose Edit. You reach the variable editor where you see all of the settings for the variable. You can make changes to the variables here.
    Variable Types
    Definition
The type of variable being used. This determines the object that the variable represents as a placeholder for a concrete value.
    Structure
There are different types of variables depending on the object for which you want to define variables. These types specify where you can use the variables.
    ·        Characteristic Value Variables
Characteristic value variables represent characteristic values and can be used wherever characteristic values are used.
If you restrict characteristics to specific characteristic values, you can also use characteristic value variables. See, Restricting Characteristics.
    ·        Hierarchy Variables
Hierarchy variables represent hierarchies and can be used wherever hierarchies can be selected.
If you restrict characteristics to specific hierarchies or select presentation hierarchies, you can also use hierarchy variables. See Selecting Hierarchies
    ·        Hierarchy Node Variables
Hierarchy node variables represent a node in a hierarchy and can be used wherever hierarchy nodes are used.
If you restrict characteristics to specific hierarchy nodes, you can also use hierarchy node variables. See Restricting Characteristics: Hierarchies
    ·        Text Variables
Text variables represent a text and can be used in descriptions of queries, calculated key figures and structural components.
You can use text variables in the description of calculated key figures, restricted key figures, selections and formulas when you create them. See Defining Calculated Key Figures, Defining Restricted Key Figures, Defining Selections, and Defining Formulas.
You can change the descriptions in the properties dialog box. See Query Properties Calculated Key Figure Properties Restricted Key Figure Properties, and Selection/Formula Properties.
    ·        Formula Variables
Formula variables represent numerical values and can be used in formulas. See Defining Formulas.
In addition, numerical values are used for selecting exceptions and conditions and you can also use formula variables here. See Defining Exceptions and Defining Conditions
You can use a formula variable for the interest rate in order to process the current interest rate, after you have executed the query or Web application.

  • What are SERIALLY_REUSABLE and RESTRICT_REFERENCES pragmas, when can used?

    Hi everyone,
I have recently joined in Discussion forums and feeling very excited to read blogs.
My question is about SERIALLY_REUSABLE and RESTRICT_REFERENCES pragmas.
what are these pragmas and when can we use them?
It would be greatly appreciated if anyone can answer this.
    Regards,
    Sachin Jaiswal

Go to http://tahiti.oracle.com, type in your searchwords, choose the database versions you are using and read the results.
    e.g.
    serially_reusable version 11.2
    restrict_references version 11.2
Also this is not really related to forms, so for this type of question the SQL and PL/SQL forum might be more apropriate:
    PL/SQL
but as you can see looking up in the documentation brings you answers to your questions in no time ;)
    cheers

    Hi everyone,
I have recently joined in Discussion forums and My question is about SERIALLY_REUSABLE and RESTRICT_REFERENCES pragmas.
what are these pragmas and when can we use them? please give me practical example as I have understood them
in Oracle documentation but not able to use practically.

SERIALLY_REUSABLE : This pragama indicates that, the package states are stored only for the block it is executing. Means teh package states are not stored for the session. In this way the constants defined in the package wont be available for the whole session.
RESTRICT_REFERENCES: This pragma is to check, packaged functions have the expected purity during compilation itself. For example, if you want to assert that a packaged function wont do any db writes, you can use as below.
    create package p1 is ..
      function test_fn return number;
      pragma restrict_references(test_fn,wnds)
    end p1;
