What are you using Catalyst for?

Since we can't do polls, I  thought we could answer in a discussion. Here are the choices:
1) Prototyping
2) Flex Application design
3) Widget design (embedded in a web page)
4) Complete site design
I'll start:
I use it mostly for 1) Prototyping and a little for 2) Flex Application design

1 (and hoping it also has potential as a designer's rapid mockup presentation tool to maximize the WOW factor so I can get my projects funded!)

  • Looking for a drum loop app that will run in the background. What are you using?

Looking for a drum loop app that will run in the background. Suggestions? What are you using? I tried Loopseque and I like it, but I can't make it run once I switch apps. Help please.

That's definitely strange, kzmidge. I want a working phone in your hands though. I noticed you mentioned you received the suggestion to complete a reset. Did you already do that? Is it working again? Are you receiving an error message?
If you hesitated a little longer to complete the reset, you can try to place your phone into Safe Mode http://vz.to/rxg0ii and see if you can access mobile sites from your browser. This mode will stop 3rd party applications from running, so you won't be able to use the apps you mentioned but we may be able to narrow down the trouble in Safe Mode. If the mobile sites work, that means the trouble may be in a recently downloaded application and you may be able to avoid the reset my uninstalling some of your more recently installed applications. If it's still giving you trouble, the reset http://vz.to/18wzOCi is the next best step.

  • What are you using as a Flash replacement for 64-bit machines?

    Hi,
I was reading about the vulnerabilities in Adobe's Flash and decided to remove the offending package. I opened Chromium to make sure my Flash still worked, as I understood that Chromium implemented another method for rendering Flash stuff. I was wrong. For example, YouTube tells me that I need Flash 10 or higher. I tried to re-install the flashplugin package, but it is no longer in the repos.
I can live without Flash content, but it's nice to have.
So the question is, what are you using instead, that can be installed from the main repos?
    Many thanks,
    Chris.

I have installed both lightspark 0.4.3 and gnash 0.8.8, since lightspark should be able to 'fall back to gnash for older videos' (see changelog of lightspark).
I have tried some flash-websites in firefox and all of them seem to use gnash and there was 1 website that didn't load the content (www.deredactie.be - our national tvstation). So, I'm under the impression that lightspark is not used by firefox.
Has anyone found out how to do this?
Secondly, gnash should be able to use VA-API (hardware acceleration). Is it just a question to install libva and let gnash do the rest, or does one have to recompile gnash to build the support in?
    Zl.
PS: to whoever thinks flashplugin is the 'real flash': gnash has beaten it in terms of providing hardware acceleration. hooray for opensource!

  • What are you most excited for in BlackBerry 10?

I've been trying to figure out which feature in BlackBerry 10 interests me the most, but there are so many cool new features coming that it's hard to say what my favorite is.  Here's a run down of my favorite features (in no particular order):
The BlackBerry Keyboard - I've had the pleasure of using the keyboard on my Dev Alpha device, and I have to say, this is by far the best virtual keyboard I've ever used.
The BlackBerry Hub - I don't know how many times I've wished I could use the BlackBerry Hub on my Dev Alpha.  I wasn't a big fan of the unified inbox on my PlayBook and kept my social media accounts separate, but the videos for the BlackBerry Hub on BlackBerry 10 make it seem so much better.
BlackBerry Flow - I love the new gesture based OS.  Takes the strengths of the PlayBook and improves on them even more.
BlackBerry Browser - This browser makes me happy.  Again, using the one on my Dev Alpha has been a dream.  It's fast, it handles all sorts of content (just have to make sure Flash is turned on for the full experience) and its easy to use.
I'm sure I could keep my list going, but those are the things that really stand out to me at this point and really make me want a BlackBerry 10 device.
    What are your favorite features?

For me it has to be the flow.
Quick gestures to access everything I need and want is fantastic! I can't wait for Jan. 30th!
That said, I totally echo your list Krypto!

  • Naming Standards: What are you using?

I'd like to hear what different organizations are using for naming standards to manage their XI environment.
When you have a new interface or need to call up an existing interface, how do you know where to find them?
Do you break out your interfaces by Sender SC, XI SC and receiver SC?
    How do you organize namespaces?

    Hi Mark,
Well, The name space itself it means that it used for unique identifier.Normally in realtime business cases lot  of process would be involved..when you are developing the interface and when you start up with namespace..The name space should give you the what exactly the scenario..for which type of scenarios..
Let me take an example suppose if u are implementing the all sales order scenario you can probably implement a name space such that it should reflect the all sales order related objects.
      <b>Ex: http://xyzcompany.com./salesorders</b>
The above namespace tell you that the vendor is xyzcompany and the corresponding objects of slaes orders.
    Hope I am clear.
    Thanks and Regards,
    Chandu.

  • Audition - What are we using it for?

As someone pointed out in a recent topic (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx?128@@.59b54e04) that "most" topics concern, AA 'bugs' and other hardware and/or OS related problems. Ozpeter rightly explains the obvious reasons for this.
Maybe I've got too much time on my hands but given my recent experience in developing a support utility for AA (http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.59b4f363) it has become obvious to me just how diverse the use and the way we all use AA.
I thought it might be interesting and perhaps even useful and educational for members of the forum (and maybe even Adobe) if users offer some insight into where, how, why and for what purpose they use Audition.
What do you think about the idea of this sort of feedback in one area (or at all)?

Well, to answer Runaway in greater detail, I use both AA and Pro Tools. What has driven me from using AA as my main DAW is not only the PTs wonderfully integrated MIDI support (it should be, after all Digis been doing it for a very long time) but what have also become for me serious limitations on AAs part.
Here are some my issues with AA:
The VST/DirectX amnesia bug is one whereby AA will not remember session effect settings. I generally prefer to use certain DirectX and VST plugins rather than the AA effects and it takes time to set these up with particular effects and custom parameters assigned to specific tracks. When I exit the session AA forgets the settings. In other words, when I revisit the session for a revision or whatever I have to re-enable each effect as AA reverts to a default setting upon exiting the session. I used to take this behavior as just something I had to live with until I began to use Acid Pro and Pro Tools. It was when I started using other DAWs that I realized AA was seriously broken in this regard.
Stability is another area where AA falls flat and its only gotten worse with AA 3.0. I found 2.0 to be more stable than 1.5 (which was a nightmare) and I have learned the hard way that with AA you save early and often, otherwise it WILL crash and kill your work from the last save point.
In all the time I have been using Pro Tools it hasnt crashed once. I value that quite a bit.
AAs MIDI integration is thoroughly wonked. Why it was even introduced in this condition is one of the great mysteries of the universe. To say - as I have read - that its still in a state of development is understating the situation to say the least.
And support? Digi releases patches to fix bugs found after release in regular order. So does every other DAW maker for that matter. We still dont know if Adobe is going to fix AA 3.0s bugs or release the fixes as AA 3.5 and charge us for them.
Ive been using this product since the days of Cool Edit 1x. It was the first DAW on which I learned to edit digital audio. But it wasnt until I began to use Pro Tools that I started to understand AAs limitations and faults.
And I didnt purchase Pro Tools so I could play with the big boys. It was because I wanted to learn something new and see how far I could push my talent and abilities. I also had the opportunity to pick up some engineering sessions at a local production house and they like many other professional studios here in Austin use Pro Tools. (My buddy Ray Benson of Bismeaux Studios uses Nuendo, but thats another story)
Once I began to use Pro Tools I began to see what I had been missing: a supremely refined user interface with astounding power and the feeling that I was driving a luxurious and slick program that was a delight to learn and use. Every time I use Pro Tools I find a new reason to love it, as its that deep and constantly opens new ways to appreciate it. The recently released version 7.4 is just mind blowing.
And as far as having to use proprietary hardware, thats a plus for me. Look at it this way: youre going to have to buy a sound card anyway. If youre a pro you wont be using a Creative Labs card, youll be using a something on a professional level. For a little less than twice what one would pay for AA 3.0 alone you can purchase an Mbox 2 Factory Pro with PT 7.4 and youre good to go. Program and sound card in one. Whats not to like?
Like I said at the start of this, I still use AA. It has certain features that are still useful to me, such as the Edit window and its audio restoration toolset. But I dont use it for mission critical projects. Its too buggy and too unreliable for that. And I wont automatically buy the next version as I have been doing since the Cool Edit days. I find myself considering other alternatives such as Sound Forge and Wavelab.
Im not saying AA is a bad productits just that what I need from a DAW has changed and in its current state AA doesnt fit the bill for the majority of my needs.

  • What are you using as RSS Reader on iPhone?

I am an RSS junkie, and this is how I quickly get my news every day. If you have not yet discovered the power of RSS, it lets you quickly browse headlines from dozens of web sites in one-stop shopping.
What have you found to be the best way to manage and read RSS feeds on your iPhone?
I had been using a Mac-based app called NewsFire on my MacBook, but they told me there is 0% chance of porting this to be an iPhone app.
So I am shopping for a new RSS reader to manage all of the feeds I subscribe to.
What RSS reader do you like on the iPhone? Are you just using Google Reader or Safari, or have you found something cooler? What do you like about the reader you chose?
    Thanks!
    Brian

I haven't used RSS on iPhone, but I understand if you click an RSS feed in iPhone Safari it'll use
reader.mac.com, though apparently it doesn't have many features. Maybe more sites or widgets will come out sometime?
You can ask Apple for iPhone changes via this link:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html Though if you're requesting hardware changes for iPhone v2 you may want to wait a week (or a month?)...they're probably going to be inundated right now by requests for software changes to the current iPhone.

  • What are you using for SD Capture

    Hi,
I need a external device or an internal pci-e card for capture of SD footage. I transfer old footage to dvd for alot of clients.
    i have been looking at
    Black Magic Intensity Pro
    http://www.blackmagic-design.com/products/intensity/
    or
    Grassvalley
    http://www.grassvalley.com/products/advc_professional_family
Any thoughts of these two products. or any recomendations.
i was using a matrox rtx.2. but do not require this card for cs5 as there is no support, and doubt there will be.
    Baz

It's been Grass Valley for sometime, but the Canopus name still seems to apply to the 110 and the 300 units. Not sure why, or if that is official. Still, almost every reseller still lists them as Canopus.
    Hunt
PS - I like the 300 with a Panny VHS/SVHS/DVD deck. I only use the DVD feature to archive clients' VHS tapes, or run poor compliance DVD-Videos through it to Capture, rather than rip. One has no device control that way, but with the mouse in one hand and the remote in the other, it is so very easy.
    Good luck,

  • What are you using for identity managment--windows?

We have windows iis, active directory. if anyone has developed detailed instsructions for this it would be greatly appreciated.

If you search this discussion for "C#" you will find some example code for a C# based transfer script. I'm not sure its specific to Active Directory, but it should get you started.
I don't know much about Active Directory, but I assume that it has APIs that you can call from C# to get authorization information.

  • What are you using for Fan speed AND temp monitor?

Thanks to Bosskiller, my rig seems to be running a bit stabler now!  Knock on wood.  Is there any program other than MSI's core center that monitor fan speed AND temp?   I used to use MBM but it's no longer being supported and CoreCenter doesn't seem all that popular here?

Actually how accurate is the temp reading on HWMonitor for your MSI board?  One thing I noticed is that w/ Coretemeter the temp reading was around 48-50c on Rig#1 and almost 58-60c on Rig#2 (That's my HTPC w/ EXTREMELY tight spacings so still work in progress as far as cooling's concern!) but using HWMonitor I got 31c CONSISTENTLY on both rigs!     I'll love to think that I'm indeed running this cool but feeling the exhaust air, I think this 31c reading is not real...

  • What are you using to create dynamic content?

I'm new to the cisco DMP system and I'm trying to figure out how others are displaying dynamic content.  The built in designer is a bit limiting.  I've created a few elements in flash, but if the system does not like anything full-screen.
I've used previous digital signage products and they were all a bit like powerpoint with different slides and each slide could have text, animations, etc.
    Thanks.

If you are doing it via a web page and can edit the css do something like:
    body{
    margin:0;
    padding:0;
Then make the flash 100% wide and tall.
