What Audio Interface should I get?

Hello Guys (sorry for the multiple threads).
But....
I currently use an M-Audio Firewire 410 and want to upgrade to either a Motu 828 mk2 or possibly an RME Fireface. I am planing on using the Audio Interfaces with a patch bay, but maybe a Mackie Onyx with Firewire (anyone out there used one of these? how does it compare to say the 828?) instead. I don't record lots of stuff at once but have a bit of outboard and some dusty old vintage keyboards (my Casiotone collection... yeah boooooyyyy). I record a lot of Bass guitar so I guess something reasonable preamps would be good. What would you recommend?
Thanks
Joe

Hi Joe Henson here goes a list below.
RME, Apogee, Lavry, D.A.D. Prism, are all top Sound-Card,
going with any of them will be a good choice,
Motu on the other hand not bad,
but with its Clock works it's not all that,
therefore with Motu its always good to have a Master-Clock, Like the Big-Ben and a few others.
Have fun in making the right choice.

  • What audio interface works best with Audition cs6

what audio interface works best with Audition cs6

It depends on how much you want to spend and how many channels you want to record/playback at once. So any decent (normally) external audio interface should do provided it also has robust ASIO drivers for your operating system. Don't go  for a gamer's interface though as they are not optimised for audio recording.

  • What volt charger should I get for my MacBook? It is a DC to AC inverter?

Hi, I recently purchased a inverter charger that has an outlet to charge a computer and can be used as a typical USB charger for a phone. The charger says that it has a continuous charge of 120V but a maximum of 150V. I don't understand what the problem is though because on the MacBook charger it says that it's intake is 100-240V and all of the other outputs and inputs match the specifications for the charging device. A normal phone charger that you can plug into the wall worked in this charger, so is it the computer or the charger? And also if it is the computer, what voltage amount should I get? Thank you very much!

Your Macbook charger will specify the number of watts it uses (very fine print somewhere on the charger brick).  Your inverter MUST be able provide at least that much power, or I'm guessing your Macbook charger would have problems.

  • After using my new firewire audio interface, my devices get electrostatic

I recently bought a Focusrite Saffire 24DSP which is connected by a firewire cable to my macbook pro (late 2010). I connect it as stated with my macbook of. Now there are moments (and unfortunately they are moment of surprise) that my macbook's case get all electrostatic. Not just a little bit but one that makes your hair rises. Also at that same moment the case of the Focusrite audio interface is also all static, also the back of my audio monitors/speakers (which is connected by xlr-cable to this audio interface), these last two devices are the worse, and even in some cases the metal case of my Novation Remote SL keyboard which is connected by usb to my macbook. You can understand that I sometimes getting nervous to touch anything once the audio interface is powered on... or at the end of my session to power my stuff off.
I first thought that connecting the audio interface to its own wall socket/adapter, instead of using it by powered from the firewire, would solve it, but not.
Even this morning, after powering off everything last night (though the firewire cable still connected), i got a shock when opening my macbook and 5min. later touching the audio interface. How can I resolve this? Is it a problem of my new interface, is it a firewire problem? or is it the macbook? ......
Would it help to put the audio interface on rubber feets.. or should I take care in what order I put devices on and off? Please any help or suggestions, since waking up this way is a terrible one

Is the MBP plugged in using a three pronged properly grounded outlet?

  • What Audio Hardware Should I Use?

Intel Core i7-4930K, Asus GeForce GTX 780, Silverstone Temjin SST-TJ04B-E (Black) - My Video Editing Build - percoplus's…
I am building this rig at the moment. I have everything on hand except for the Quadro K4000 which should be here any time.
There is so much info online about system components for video editing, but I am not sure what to do about my audio setup. I am certain the motherboard's onboard audio is capable, but should I get an external box, mixer, etc.? What about speakers?
I have had a set of M-Audio BX5a Speakers connected to my current system's sound card, but one of them is defective and need replacement. So, I'm going shopping today. Not sure if I should go with a good set of computer speakers from Fry's or to Guitar Center for an elaborate audio interface with studio monitors. I am not a sound engineer, but I do film musical performances and other events and would like to deliver somewhat professional sounding video.

Surround monitoring is different with Pro Audio interfaces. They have separate channels for audio output ie routing via analog and they don't come with a surround sound decoder for the SPDIF. Surround sound is monitored via separate wires and speakers for each channel in surround. This means the audio interface has to have atleast that many analog channels to use for 5.1 or 7.1. The UR22 only has stereo so that would not be enough. That would require the UR824 or something similar which would cost far more. Consumer speakers have decoding or routing through the audio device and sub often times versus separate channels for each. This is ok for just listening to surround but impossible to use really for mixing surround. You also have the cost difference in speakers since you have to buy a speaker for each channel in pro audio setup. If you need surround and don't have the budget for separate speakers then the onboard audio or a Asus Audio card are going to be the best options.

  • What audio interfaces for iPad are there that give stereo outputs?

I've had persons tell me that an iPad is not good to use as you would a computer in DJing because it can't do split stereo outputs. I was thinking that perhaps an audio interface that connects through the dock might fix that. Can anyone give me a list of such interfaces?

    DJ Arctic wrote:
From what I understand, most headphone splitters (like the Griffin DJ Cable) split the stereo track into two mono tracksone for pre-cueing, one for what the audience hears.
Note that the Griffin DJ Cable does not fall into the same category as "most headphone splitters". It is made specifically with a stereo/mono output for the algoriddim djay app.
This is one of the mono output cables you would need to specifically hunt down.
    DJ Arctic wrote:
If you know of a headphone splitter that doesn't do that, but gives two stereo channels, I'd be glad to take a look at it.
All of these are single stereo to double stereo outputs -> Headphone splitters
Ask for a headphone splitter in just about any store (Walmart, Best Buy, Target, 7-11) and you'll get what you want.

  • G5? OS X.4? - What Audio Interface do you use?

Calling all people with a Power Mac G5, running OS 10.4 (Tiger). - Please list your Audio Interface (Soundcard) here!
(Reason being, I'm looking into getting an Audio Interface, and I'd like to know what works well on a G5 running OS X.4)
    Thanks!

A lot of users also seem to like the MOTU 828mkII. I've used it with good results as well. I do own a Digidesign Digi 002 rack, and it works ok I guess. The core audio support is pretty miserable, but it works with Pro Tools. It does still function with logic as well but maintains a pretty high latency. I wouldn't really reccomend it unless you are using pro tools. Good Luck!

So i am new to the mac world. I have always used windows for dell but i am sick of it and i want to switch to a macbook. I am also purchasing a neoprene sleeve with handles, the apple remote, the protection plan, a $99 printer and final cut express b/c i am in college and one of my majors has to do with video editing. i am new to this stuff and i really do not know what i am going to want/need. should i get a rechargeable battery now or should i wait? is it worth it? any other software i should buy or might need for college? I am taking up creative writing/cinema and screen studies/theatre. any other hardware i should get? i already have an external 500 GB drive. any cables i might need? or anything else? i really do not even know what to consider. if someone could help me out that would be great.

Well I know there is a tool to fix the shaking on imovie n such, but is there a way to make my film look clear instead of grainy? Does anybody know what im talking about? Like...you can tell when someone filmed from a professional camera versus their moms camera to tape their sons hockey games, you now? it has that grainy, fuzzy quality to it.
    the app is $35.
For graininess, this problem has existed since the invention of film & has translated well - to much dismay - to digital capute devices like DSLRs & CCD / CMOS based camcorders.
Grain is grain, period. There isn't a magic fix. There are some filters in some apps - like Final Cut - to midigate some of it, but not totally & is going to make the footage look wierd in cases.
It's best to get it right in the camera, as they say.

  • This is an embarassment! What audio interface works reliably with 10.5.2?

For years Mac's have been the computer of choice for professional musicians and I was an early adherent dating back to the 80's and the first Apple MacIntoshes using MOTU Digital Performer V 1. I wandered away to PC land to do some C+ programming and recently returned with a brand new MacBook Pro only to find that the audio interfaces I have tried do not work with 10.5.2. I have tried a Firewire Interface from Tascam and a USB interface from M-Audio. Both created problems ranging from system crashes to simply not working. Is there an interface that works reliably with Leopard, 10.5.2? I can't try them all? The hardware manufacturers are scurrying to make their stuff work. Why is it so hard and why don't we hear more from Apple on this issue? Musician's have been a large part of the Mac universe. How about some support?

Ok, Bucesam, you're freaking me out. I do periodic recording with my PowerBook using a Firebox. I've used my MacBook Pro several times since I got it, too. I just upgraded the MacBook to 10.5.2. Are you telling me the next time I need it for remote recording it won't work? I can't take time to check now, but will, probably right before I need it. Dang. Like a complete idiot, I blithely overwrote the 10.4.11 backup after all seemed right with 10.5.2. If anything, I would have expected even better core audio implementation in 10.5.
Enough of my ignorant hand wringing. Can someone who knows what they're talking about (not me) speak to this before brucesam and I commit sepuku?

  • What security software should I get

I just got my iMac,  Comming from the PC world, I was wonding what type of anti-virus and security software should I get for MAC?  What recommendations does anyone have for the brand?

No antivirius needed but I would recommend a browser add-in to block JavaScript, Java, Flash and other plugins.
On Firefox or Chrome, NoScript is an excellent choice.  Someone else might have a recommendation for Safari.

and am trying to edit DVD's I copied from tape to
    make another DVD.
Copying home-made DVDs is easy (Disk Utility) but editing is more difficult.
iDVD says my Mac does not have a
    supported superdrive.
Your drive shows as supported, so it may be some iDVD problem. Does the drive burn with other applications. e.g. Disk Utility, iTunes, or Finder.
How do you plug in video to this computer?
You need a video input device. It could be a PCI card (depending on your computers bus), a FireWire device, or an USB device. If you have a digital camcorder it can be used to input video via FireWire. If you have to buy something, look here: <http://www.elgato.com>

  • What case/sleeve should I get for my macbook air 11"?

I just got a macbook air 11" for Christmas, and don't know what kind of case to get. I carry it around in my backpack everyday for school, so I need a solid case. A lot of my friends have the hard case and a neoprene case/sleeve. I used a neoprene case/sleeve for my macbook (white) but I've noticed that this unibody design makes the computer a lot more prone to denting easily. Any ideas on what cases to get?
