What base station for older airport card?

I have put an airport card (id# 0030652BADB7, 128 bits) into a friends iMac G3 and need to get a base station but don't know what to look for. Can anyone help? Thank you.

viad, Welcome to the discussion area!
"Extreme" is Apple's marketing term for 802.11b/g and 802.11b/g/n wireless networking. Any of Apple's base stations will create a wireless network that the iMac G3 can connect to.

I cannot get the darn Airport Express to work!  It just keeps blinking Amber.  I know it must be something silly I am over looking.  And I do not have the Airport Extreme Base Station.
    Thank you for any help!!!

    Thanks,
This is the rear of your modem/router:
Connect a Cat5e or Cat6 cable from any of the 4 Ethernet Lan ports to the (single) socket on the Express, then go to Airport Utility (Applications>Utilities>Airport Utility) and select create a new network.
You will need to turn the wireless transmiter in the Netgear off, here is a link to the Netgear Manual in case you need to refer to it.

  • Airport Base Station without the airport card

I want to know if an airport base station (snow) will operate as a wired ethernet router if it no longer has an internal airport card.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    WPA2-PSK
that is the encryption in my router, there is another way without change any security?

  • Can I buy any wifi base station for an airport extreme card?

At my mom's house, there is no wifi, so I was thinking of buying an aebs. but I was wondering if I can buy any wifi base and if it will work with my mac?

The Ethernet output of the modem should be connected to the WAN port on the AEBS.
...and the modem doesnt have a WAN port, but it has two wifi plugs on the top.
    "wifi plug"... what is that?
If these other computers don't have a wireless capability, connect an Ethernet switch (or hub) to the AEBS's LAN port. Then connect these other computers to the Ethernet switch (or hub).

You don't have to do anything to the netgear.. the Express cannot wirelessly extend non-apple networks. You must plug the Express in by ethernet and create a new wireless network.. this can be the same name (SSID) and security as the netgear so it can become a roaming network.

  • Using a wire connected mac as wireless base-station by using airport extreme card

Is it possible to use a mac as wireless"base-station" for a iPhone by using an airport extreme card , if the mac is connected only by wire?
I created a network on my mac and my iPhone is connected to it, but it says the network is not connected to internet.
So can I connect the airport extreme card on my mac to the ethernet of my mac by changing the network settings on my mac?
If not, is there another way?

ok, i got the answer from another discussion. http://computers.tutsplus.com/tutorials/how-to-share-your-macs-internet-connecti on--mac-60309

  • What is the best wireless base station for a clamshell?

i want to purchase a wireless base station for my clamshell but am unsure on which apple product to buy. do you recommend the airport extreme or just the original airport. i've heard from some people that the extreme doesnt' work that well.

The perks of the airport extreme base station are Wireless B/G/N compatibility as well as a USB port for sharing external harddrives, printers, etc.
Your ibook is only compatible with Wireless B networks, so there is no sense in paying for G/N compatibility unless you really need it. The same holds true for the USB port in my opinion. Unless you need it why pay for it.
The original airport base stations are cheaper, and they do exactly what you need them to do.
    That's my two cents

  • Using a Airport Express Base Station for wireless printing.

Using a Airport Express Base Station for wireless printing. Got a new DSL router yesterday. Our old one we did not have password protected. The new one is. I can't figure out how to get the base station to connect with the new router.

thanks for the reply,   I couldn't connect with the base station.  The solution (thank you apple genius bar) was to do a soft rest of the unit which allowed and ethernet connectiont to be established.  Took the genius bar gy about ten min (and 2 attempts) to get the base station reconfigured.  Got home and it worked like a charm.  Would have never known what he knew.  Thank you genius bar.  Thank you for taking time to respond.

  • Third Party base stations for airport express

Hi, I recently bought an AX, my question was answered earlier so I guess my doubt now is which third party products could act as base stations which can be recognized by the AX, which Linksys products (not too expensive) would you recommend? I thank you in advance for your attention.
    John

An Airport Express can act as a client (printing and AirTunes) with ANY wifi-certified 802.11b/g wireless router.
In terms of using an Airport Express to extend an existing wireless network, then I wouldn't recommend ANY third party router, I would use an Airport Extreme Base Station or another Airport Express.
It has been shown to work with
    - a Linksys WRT54G or WRT54GS (not latest versions v5)
    - a Belkin F5D7230-4 and F5D7231
    - one specific model from SMC
    - one specific model from Buffalo
    - BT Voyager 2100
For wireless routers not on this short list - not possible.
In particular, it will not work with any WiFi routers from D-Link or Netgear.

  • HT4262 This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support.

In my Airport Utility a read the following message:
This version of AirPort Utility doesn't support this base station. Use AirPort Utility 5.6 to configure or manage this base station. AirPort Utility 5.6 is available at AirPort Service and Support." What do I have to do ?? I can use my airport.

I assume that your MacBook Pro is running OS X Mountain Lion ... correct? If so, version 5.6 can run just fine on this version of OS X; it just can't be installed in the traditional way.
Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.

  • ITunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) did not fix choppy playback

After reading all the other posts I tried installing the (64 bit for older video cards) and it did not solve my choppy playback with Music or Movies.  I am running windows 8.1, Intel i7-4500U CPU @ 1.8GHz, 8 GB RAM, 64-bit OS, x64 based processor, DELL Inspirion 15.  Never had problems until upgrading to 8.1 from 8.0.

Did you see if changing the Play Audio Using select in Edit > Preferences > Playback to "Direct Sound" resolves the issue?  Otherwise you may want to consider rolling back to 12.0 and waiting until a future release is shown to resolve the playback issues in 12.1.  See Turingtest2's notes on Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates for steps needed to completely remove all installed iTunes components, and for links to the 12.0 installers.

This is the message I have recieved in installing my AirPort Utility... Can anyone help me?

Old AirPort base stations and Time Capsules aren't compatible with AirPort Utility 6.2, so you have to use AirPort Utility 5.6. As you have already updated, you can't install AirPort Utility 5.6 by the normal way.
To install AirPort Utility 5.6 on your MacBook Pro, follow these steps > http://frank.is/mountain-lion-and-the-old-airport-utility/
