Maximum Memory

Memory Slots
2 - 204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
I recommend buying RAM from:
OWC
DataMem
Crucial.com
I would stick to SSDs like the OCZ Vertex 3, Samsung 840, or OWC Mercury 6G. You may also care to look at the DataDoubler from OWC. A bracket that lets you install both an SSD and your existing HDD in the optical bay by removing the DVD drive.

  • What SSD should i choose for an macbook pro 17inch early 2011?

i have been hearing great things from the samsung series, and i was going to choose this one
    http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=84666 39&CatId=5300
Also i have another question, will this also help with heating issues i have sometimes? for example i use programs like final cut pro x and adobe premire, and apple motion, after effects, and if i do intensvie things it will sometimes overheat, causing some lag in the programs, espically if i work on 1920x1080 footage if im just cutting up clips, i use my SMC fan control alot to cool it down and it helps, but it ***** i have to turn it on as soon as i open up a program cause i know the fans will rise
Also my overheating issues sometimes go into the browsers i use, chrome and firefox, if im on a very flashy website or watching videos, it will heat and my vids and websites will lag and glitch, it ***** i have to use safari cause of this, my only qualm with safari it is not quick enough, pages load slower, and images loading up are super slow, but atleast with safari videos play good, and i dont get any heating up, i will say i had no problem using chrome and firefox, before upgrading to mavericks and now it just heats up and lags,
or does this depends on my video card and ram?
    Here are my specs
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 1024 MB
    Serial Number  C0******F92
    Software  OS X 10.9.2 (13C1021)
    <Personal Information Edited by Host>

oh and another thing, it doesnt heat up when the programs or browsers set idle, and if im doing not to heavy editing in my programs
    thanks in advance

  • What 2T external HD should I buy for my macbook pro for photos, videos and music storage?

    Hello friends!!
What 2T external HD should I buy for my macbook pro for photo, music and videos storage?
    Thank U!!

My personal preference is for the OW, http://www.macsales.com Mercury Elite Pro quad-interface drive...have four of them of the 2 TB size and they are very good performers.  The quad-interface allows you a choice of ways to connect, eSata, Firewire 800/400, USB which is very convenient.  OWC is a Mac specialist so everything has been tested and guaranteed to be Mac compatible.

  • Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

Can I upgrade my RAM from 4GB to 8GB for my MacBook Pro 13(early 2011 2.7GHz)? And how much would it be?

you can upgrade to 16GB if you wish to do so...
average price for 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 is around $50 - $75 depending on the brand.
why not spend $100 and go with 16GB 1333MHz from Crucial or Corsair.
you can get them from Amazon.com or newegg.com
see image below with 16GB Patriot Mac Series 1333MHz for $100.

Hi, a brand new Crucial SSD in a brand new 2.5" USB3 enclosure won't mount on my Macbook Pro 13" early 2011.
Any help would be appreciated, thanks

    Try different USB cables.
    Try a different enclosure.
    Try all USB ports.
    Try it on another Mac.
Is no success, the SSD may be DOA.
    Ciao.

Can't install SMC Firmware Update for my MacBook Pro 15" early 2011

Check your Network control panel and turn off Auto-Proxy setting.
This is one of the top #4 "how can they do this' pet-peeve errors.
The other is the often slow 8 hrs to download 600MB even on 10Mb+ cable.
Another, 'the drive cannot be partitioned because there isn't enough contiguous unfragemented free space; some files are locked and cannot be moved."
If auto proxy isn't it, router/modem and DNS settings.

I Live is Hungary in Central Europe.
    Many Thanks.

I'd like to chime in and offer a differing opinion. The size factor of all SSD's don't leave much to question, but there are a couple other things that you can research and take into account.
The biggest thing to look for after the capcity you want is the connection speed. Your Macbook is last generation compatible with SATA 3.0Gbs transfer speeds, and while you can still utilize an SSD with SATA 6.0Gbs, your connection won't be able to fully utilize the full speed of such an SSD.
The upside is that SATA 3.0Gbs SSD's are selling for much less now on ebay and on Amazon since they are last generation, so you can pick one up on a budget. If money is not an issue and you'd like to spend a bit more for the latest generation SSD that you can transplant into the laptop you want to purchase after your mid 2009, a current generation SATA 6.0Gbs SSD is going to work fine and will also work great in whatever you upgrade to.

  • What kind of SSD do I need for my Macbook Pro 13(MD102E/A)?

    Hi guys and gals,
The thing is that my hd is dead as punk so I will have to replace it. I want to replace it with a Solid State Drive, can you guys help me find what kind of hard drive can I use for this model: MD102E/A Macbook Pro?
    Thanks in advance.
    Ade Goldman

Any 2.5" SATA SSD will work. Is it your plan to do the work yourself or take it to Apple. If the latter, then you will need to arrange to have an Apple SSD installed by them. They will not install one that you buy. If you do the work then shop for a suitable product at OWC or you can purchase other brands at places such as NewEgg.com. OCZ and Samsung both have compatible SSDs. Be sure to get one that supports SATA III 6 Gb/s also referred to as 6G.

  • Which External Harddrive should I buy for my Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I am looking to buy an Extenrnal Harddrive fro my Macbook Pro, so that I can use Tiem machine and backup all my photos, files etc..
    I have been looking at a 2TB and a 3TB one...
Does it make any difference abouthe USB 2.0 and 3.0? Does my Macbook Pro ( 2011) have a USB 3.0 outlet?
    Excuse my ignorance..
    Thanks
    Aaron

No worries! Your MacBook Pro does not have a USB 3.0 outlet. Only the macbook Pro with retina display has USB 3.0 outlets. It would not matter since all USB 3.0 devices work with with 2.0. I would not worry about the compatibility. If you want to use time machine only, buy a time capsule from Apple.com. If you want to use it for other storage stuff too, I would start by looking around at amazon.com. Hope this helps!

  • What kind of monitor should I get for my Macbook Pro Retina?

I bought a Macbook Pro Retina to replace my old 2007 Macbook. When I hook my Retina up to my Acer 1080p LED Monitor, it does not display in full quality. I assume this is due to the size of the graphics card inside the laptop. My old macbook displayed a perfect picture on this same monitor.
I want to buy a new monitor that can display my Retina in full quality, but I don't want to break the bank to get a Thunderbolt Display. Any suggestions on a monitor I can get?

Try adjusting manually the resolution on the external monitor. You may have to degrade slightly the resolution on the built in monitor when you do this. I have been told that the Mac automatically tries to optimize the picture quality on the retina display at the expense of the resolution on the external monitor. You may have to "redistribute" manually the available resolution to favor more the external display.

  • Should I get Windows 7 or 8 for my Macbook Pro 13" early 2011

    Hey All,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice what which version of Windows I should get. My plan is that I wanted to learn some beginning program stuff that might (in the future) progress into more advanced computer programming. I decided for myself that it would be best to start learning on Windows software, but I didn't feel the need to purchase an entirely brand new computer since my macbook pro is so great.
I've been reading on bootcamp stuff, and it seems as though bootcamp does not yet support windows 8.1 (which would have been my first choice). Since I cannot currently use 8.1, what might be the next best solution? Should I just go with the supported windows 8 and just wait to update to 8.1 when bootcamp finally supports it? Or should I perhaps go the safer route and go with the 64 bit version of Windows 7 (which I heard was still good as far as windows goes).
I'm hesitant on the Windows 8 option becasue I had heard a lot of complaints about it, and I don't know how long it would be until Apple updates Bootcamp to support it. My only fear with the Windows 7 option is that it will become outdated much faster than previous versions of windows (just because it seems like there was a big jump from windows 7 to windows 8).
Any thoughts would be helpful. Any specific insight as to which version might be better for me to learn computer programming on is a definite plus. The specs for my mac should be listed below, but I'm also planning on upgrading to a Seagate 1TB solid state hybrid drive SATA 6Gbps 64MB Cache 2.5-inch ST000LM014. Also, I have an Intel HD Graphics 3000 512 MB.
    Thanks!!!

Would these be the correct discs to use?: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004Q0PT3I
Seems like a reasonable price....besides "pirate free" of course.

  • Best Internal Hard Drive Update for Macbook Pro 13" early 2011?

    Hey everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone could give me their opinon as to what might be the best hard drive to update on for a Macbook Pro 13" early 2011 model. My budget is about $100, and i'm looking to increase the size of my current hard drive (which is a 320gb hard drive). I know that SSD are out of my budget range as anything even reasonably priced only gives me about 200+ gb of memory. I'm wondering if anyone has had any particular experience with the Seagate 1TB solid state hybrid drive (found here: http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Solid-Hybrid-2-5-Inch-ST1000LM014/dp/B00B99JUBQ). It boasts SSD-like speeds at a fraction of the cost, and its right around my budget, but perhaps its too good to be true? I saw the other thread about this hard drive question, but it didn't seem like anyone had any personal experience with it.
Anyways, just wondering if this one here is a truly a good deal, or if anyone has any better suggestions? Thanks in advance!!!
********P.S. Just as a side note, I'm wanting to increase the storage on my computer because i'm wanting to use bootcamp to install windows, and I want an ample amount of space to store movies, games, pictures and music. Not sure if this is even relevant, but i'm wanting to start doing a little bit of beginners programming stuff, so i want to make sure that i'll have enough empty space on my hard drive to do whatever it is i need to do. As it is, I've got about 62gb in movies, 81gb in photos, 41gb in music and 14gb in apps.....I'm really pushing the limits of my storage......*****************

I have two of those Seagate SSHDs, using one as the internal drive in my primary MBP.  Boot and shutoff times are dramatically less than before (using 7200 rpm HGST HDDs).  In other respects, I have no complaints regarding the drive performance.  I can recommend them based on my limited experience (~3 months).  The $99 price does look very attractive.
Note that when you install a HDD of larger capacity in a MBP, it should be reflected in your backup strategy.  Do you have a backup drive to accommodate the additional data that you will be able to store on the new internal HDD?
    Ciao.
