What brightness setting to use

I am sure this has been answered many times but I could not find it in a search. When using Iphoto to edit, what is a good brightness setting to use? 16 blocks so 8 would be half way.

Where are you seeing the brightness control? In iPhoto 09's Adjust pane there is no brightness control?

  • What timeline setting to use?

I'm about to start a project where I have been given 2x different types of rushes.
    1: 1920x1080 25fps PROGRESSIVE (encoded as ProRes422)
    2: 1440x1080 50i INTERLACED (which equals 25fps & encoded to ProRess422)
The final production will end up on a Standard Definition PAL DVD.
I'm using Final Cut v6.06 and am not sure what sequence settings I should set my timeline as?

Unfotunately, there's not simple answer that covers all bases. Which route you choose depends on what you need to hang onto. If this were my projects, I'd transcode everything to the working format for standard def PAL and get to work. Others will recommend a different path that includes transcoding to a common timebase. Do NOT make any rash decisions till you've read some other posts.
We see similar threads often but I'm not sure how you'd search for them. They all involve trying to mix disparate formats into the same project.

  • What Handbrake setting to use to convert DVD to play both Appletv & ipod???

When I convert a DVD using the Apple Tv setting it doesn't play on my ipod. What setting should I use on Handbrake to play on both? Does it matter as far as quality of play?

    It definately matters.
iPod High Rez is limited to 640 horisontal resolution, normal wide screen DVD's are often up to 1024 pixels horisontal resolution, so you are throwing away a lot of quality by using the iPod preset.
I convert all movies using the AppleTV preset, then make copies for my iPhone using the iPhone/iPod Touch preset (a bit higher resolution than iPod low res).
Sure it takes up more HD space, but USB2 harddrives are cheap these days and I want the best possible quality on my AppleTV and the smallest filesize on my iPhone.
Even HD TV-shows from Apple come in 2 versions (both are downloaded when you buy an HD show) - a "SD" version (640x480) and an "HD" (720p) version so this is the way Apple does it as well.

  • What encode setting are used when sending to Encore from Premiere?

    Hi All,
I have a an HDV 1440x1080 30p video and sequence in Premiere CS4. If I export it to AME, i can set the output format and presets to whatever i want. In my case, I set AME to Format: "MPEG2-DVD" and Preset: "NTSC Progressive Widescreen High Quality" and leave the other settings alone.
However, when I send the sequence via Dynamic Link from Premiere CS4 to Encoder and press on the build button, what default settings is Encore CS4 using to create the DVD?
I am assuming that i can bring up "Export Settings" in Encore prior to building to alter the default export settings and in my case i would use the Encore Export Settings:
    Format: MPEG2-DVD
Preset: Progressive High Quality 7Mb VBR 2 Pass
and leave the other Encore export settings alone.
BTW, i think its interesting that the default export settings for MPEG2-DVD, Progressive (Standard and Widescreen) High Quality in AME from both Premiere and Encore have different basic video, bitrate and GOP settings.

The 'Automatic' transcoding setting is dynamic - it changes whenever you add or subtract from the project. One of the main benefits of using it is that Encore will automatically calculate the bit budget for your disc.
But if it's somehow not working out, you need to reconsider using it.
Normally, I do my own bit budget (there are several online bit budgeting apps out there). But then, I'm a 'manual' kinda guy...

  • What "easy set up" use to use

I have a Sony HXR-MC50U camera. What setting should I choose in FCE "easy set up"?
    Signal system is:
    NTSC
    AVCHD: 1080 - 59.94i/60i
    MPEG-2: 480 - 59.94i/60i
    Thanks!

Thanks for the speedy response. I don't have that option in my drop down box - would it be
    HDV - Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60 ?

  • Yoga 10" tablet brightness setting

For those of you with a Yoga Tablet (8 or 10"), I'm curious to know what brightness setting you use.  I'm referring to Settings>Display>Brightness.  The options appear to be:
    Automatic brightness
A manual setting selected by using the slide button with the Economical backlight button unchecked
A manual setting selected by using the slide button with the Economical backlight button checked
I tried googling this issue, but did not find any helpful information.

I've been using manual brightness with Economical backlight checked.
I tried the automatic brightness, it seems to over-adjust to me.  The screen would get too dim in darker conditions and too bright in brighter conditions.
The "Economical backlight" adjusts the backlight to lighting conditions, but the adjustments are smaller.
I'd suggest experimenting with the options and find a combination you like.

  • What paper setting for iron on transfer on Office Jet pro 8600

I don't know what paper setting to use for iron on transfers.
I have also noticed compared to my other printers, colors come out faded not vibrant.
BLACK is more of a charcoal!  I'm ready to take this machine back.
I select premium hp photo paper because I want to use most dpi.  It is still faded.
However there is not a listing for "Iron on Transfer" paper.
    HELP!!!!!

    Hi,
This is extracted from page #32 of its manual:
Have both special media (such as transparencies or letterhead) and plain paper loaded in the trays.
+ Load special media in Tray 1 and plain paper in Tray 2.
+ Make sure the default tray is set to Tray 2.
+ Make sure tray lock is set to Tray 1.
    Confusing isn't it !

  • What "exactly" does the Brightness setting in Print do?

What "exactly" does the Brightness setting in the Print module do?
I know it's a controversial button, especially now that there are proofing options available. Also, since you're using it "blind" it's impossible to know how much or what it's really doing.
Does anyone know if it's e.g.. the same as going to quick develop and going up on "exposure", or "brightness", or "shadows"... How exactly is it brightening the image, and is +100 a full stop or how is it calibrated?
    Thanks,
    Alan.

    Ooops,
Obviously there is NO brightness control in LR...is the print adjustment similar to an exposure adjustment or more like moving the "shadows" and "whites" adjustments (which if I understand corrrectly, moves tones above or below mid tones, but not highlights or blacks)?

Update on my problem connecting in Itunes with my Airport Express. Not sure if anything I tried made a difference
but I finally got the Pop up window saying this device requires a Password. I entered the password and I can once again use the Airport Express as a remote speaker.

  • What have you found useful after setting up new solutions?

I have a general question about the setup of new solutions in Solution Manager. At Tech Ed, one of the SAP reps mentioned that all of the production systems related to a process should go into one solution. What does that really mean?
We have an ECC system for the financials with some of the reporting being completed in BI? So should I create one solution that includes the ECC-PRD and the BI-PRD system? Or should all of the DEV-QAS-PRD systems be place into one big solution so we can coordinate support packages and transports?
I apologize for such a general question but I wanted to see what others have found useful after setting up their solutions.
    Thank you for your time.

    Hi Joe,
I am not sure whether I understood your question correctly or not. If you were asking about creating solutions(DSWP), then there are different ways of doing it . I don’t know about SAP recommendation though.
One is Creating a solution for each of your PRD,QA and DEV. Create a solution called PRODUCTION and your all production systems into it ( in your case, your ECC PRD and BI PRD ) . The same process for QA and DEV.
Other way is Creating a solution for each landscape i.e create an ECC solution and add your ECC PRD ,DEV and QA into it. BI solution and add BI systems to that.
    Thanks

  • What Is The Best Setting To Use To Import Music? Please Help.

    Hi, All
I have got an 80GB Apple Video iPod And I am still trying to figure out how to work it as I am new to using iPods.
What is the best setting to use to import CD Music and Music from the Internet to iTunes?? as I would like to listen to the highest quality there is on iTunes and my 80GB Apple Video iPod.
The settings are: ACC Encoder, AIFF Encoder, Apple Lossless Encoder, MP3 Encoder, WAV Encoder. If you have not got them to hand.
Many Thanks For Reading This And Replying To It, Much Appreciated!!
I Hope You All Have a VERY Merry New Year!!
    Kind Regards, Rocky Robin

There really is no BEST setting. The "best" setting is the one that sounds the best to you.
Having said that, you also asked what setting provides the highest quality audio. In that case, you need to use a lossless format, such as AIFF, WAV, or Apple Lossless. MP3 and AAC are both compressed formats, and will not provide as good of an audio quality as a lossless format.
My personal preference would be Apple Lossless, but any of the lossless formats will produce an almost identical quality to the CD track.
Keep in mind, the files will be quite large.

  • What sequence setting would you use to edit 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in FCP. Experiencing Quality and rendering issues.

What sequence setting would you use to edit both 1280 x1080 DVCProHD (P2) and 1920 x 1080 AVCHD (Sony) in a single timeline in FCP. I'm experiencing quality and rendering issues.  I've tried numerous settings but can't seem to figure this one out.  Thanks for your assistance.

Although you can combine the avchd 1920x1080 material with prores 1920x1080 in the same timeline, you might land up saving time just converting everything to 1920x1080 prores 422.   You'd probably reduce the amount of rendering while you're working and exporting when you're done by a great deal.  This workflow will require much more drive space.

  • What video setting should I use?

I'm converting videos using Aieesoft, and am wondering what video setting is the best to use for playing on an ipad 4?  I don't want the files to be huge.  If I can I'd like to keep them under 1 gig each.

First, decde how you are going to deliver this production to your client. Then tell us what that delivery medium will be. Then we'll have some advice for you.
See the section in the FCP manual on using still images. You need to understand that in video there are only pixels, no dots per inch or lines per inch. Those terms are meaningless in video. You wil sand at a size in raw pixels that is only slightly larger than your delivery format.

  • What is the default screen brightness setting?

Could someone please tell me what the default screen brightness setting on a Retina Macbook Pro 15" is? Is it 50% when charging and one point less when on battery?
    Thanks in advance!

That isn't really a default setting. It is arbitrary, one system might be different than another at first turn on.
Simple way to tell is wipe your hard drive and reinstall OS X. Whatever the screen brightness is at the completion of the OS X install is the default. Make a record of it.

Of course there is a default setting. It's the setting that is configured when you first turn on your mac.
