What cables to connect to the VGA monitor

Hello,
From what I know the Mini Mac 2010 includes a HDMI to DVI monitor adapter. I have a LCD display with a VGA port. How do I use this adapter to connect it to the monitor VGA port. I am thinking about connecting HDMI --> DVI adapter (included)to DVI ---> VGA adapter (purchase) to my monitor. Will it work?
Also, how do I know if the Mini Mac is 2010 or early version before I buy it?
Thanks.

Using the stack of adapters you suggest will definitely not work. The VGA monitor is not a digital signal, where the HDMI is. DVI specs support both analog and digital signals, but when using a DVI to HDMI cable it should have the digital only version of the DVI connector. Even if you can find adapters to fit, you can not go between HDMI and VGA without a digital to analog conversion device in the middle.
Your only practical option is the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter.
If you are asking how to tell a 2010 HDMI equipped mini from earlier models, its quite simple - the HDMI native models are all the unibody aluminum design. The earlier models without HDMI have the plastic top.

would like comments on best cable for connecting my mackboo air ro adell monitor - Iam new to apple and a bit lost.

The new Airs have mini displayport connectors. I don't know what ports your monitor has, but if it has an HDMI input you can use a mini-DP to HDMI adaptor (these are available from Apple) and then a regular HDMI cable to connect to the screen. Similarly, a mini-DP to DVI adaptor and DVI cable if that's the port you have on your monitor.

  • HT2646 Does the HDMI cable get connected to the TV or HD receiver if you have a Bose surround system

In setting up apple tv does the HDMI cable get connected to the HD reliever instead of in back of the tv when u have a Bose system?

Your best bet is to connect the AppleTV's HDMI to the Bose and the Bose HDMI to the TV. You could connect the AppleTV's HDMI to the TV and the AppleTV's optical to the Bose but optical (S/PDIF, specifically) does not have as much bandwidth as HDMI so you'd potentially have lower quality sound (from what I've read...I'm not an expert on audio).

as for the hdmi, the end of the cable that connects to the tv needs to b hdmi but on my notebook the socket i have is a mini port, so what do u call the cable that has miniport on one end and hdmi on the other?
now, i have a couple of more questions, every time i listen to music or watch a movie and i tilt the notebook just a bit, the music/video skips, stops or is stuck for 2-3 seconds... why is that and how do i make it stop? could it b a mechanical problem?
and one more thing, on my device manager i see two audio devices, one is Intel(R) display audio
the second is realtek(R) high definition audio with ec, what does that mean and how do i look for maybe a software to help me configure more advanced qualities of my audio cause for now its not so good.... Anyway, with the introduction of ios 8.x, apple stopped supporting older a/v cables. You need to get the latest a/v cable with the correct firmware. There is a little chip in the a/v cable. go to the apple store. Buy a new cable. Verify the cable works in the store.

But the newest Mac notebooks do not have a firewire port.
So he may need a TB to FW adapter, $29, a FW 400 or 800 cable, $??, and then a FW 400 to 800 cable/port adapter (If the old Mac only has a FW 400 port), $??.
It is unknown if the old Mac has a FW 400 or 800 port.

  • Can I detect if something is connected to the vga port?

Is there a software solution to detect if something is connected to the vga port of my laptop? I want to write a script that can automatically choose if to run X in dual head or single head mode.

Yes - Airplay will work whether the Express is wired or wireless - wired is the most reliable way to go - note however that if you wire the Express, you would use the "create a wireless network" option and use the same name and password as your main network

  • Connecting 2 external VGA monitors to an E535

I already have one external VGA monitor connected to my Thinkpad E535 via the VGA port.
What is the best way to connect a second VGA external monitor?
    Should I use a VGA-USB or VGA-HDMI converter?
Do the converters need to have their own graphics card or can the E535 built in graphics card deal with 3 (laptop + 2 external) monitors running simultaneously?

  • Cna I connect an old VGA monitor to my POWER MAC G5?

I just purchased a 2005/2006 version of the POWER MAC G5 which uses DVI and I have an old VGA monitor (It came with my old PC) that I want to re-use if is possible.
What kind of adapter do I need?

A Power Mac G5 is not an iMac G5, so you should post your question here, in the category shown below, going forward.

However, this is probably the DVI to VGA adapter that you need.

  • What cable to connect iPhone to TV after 1.1.1??

The iPhone update 1.1.1 allows the iPhone to output audio/video to a TV. What cable do you use?
    Jim

Interesting fact on the AV cables.
Apple's original AV cables which do connect to line out port of the adapters will play audio but no video. I dropped my 5G video ipod into cradle and saw clear video and audio.
I dropped my iPhone into the cradle and got an onscreen message that the device was not compatible. I did hear audio via the cables but there was no video.
I attached the cable to the cradle included with the iPhone and did not get the error message but still got no video.
It appears that you must purchase the most recent edition of the AV cable. Mine is barely a year old so I am a bit jaded that the new $49 cable is necessary to get video out of the iPhone.

  • Connect to two VGA monitors?

Is there anyway to connect my MacBook Pro to two separate VGA monitors -- not using the notebook monitor. The two VGAs would expand the desktop --- not show the same image.

Since there is only one video port built-in, you'd need to use either the [Matrox DualHead2Go|http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/dh2go> type adapter or a [USB video adapter|http://eshop.macsales.com/search/DVI/+HDMI+/+VGA+to+Video+DisplayAdapter]. DualHead2Go is not cheap (costs as much as a monitor) and USB adapters are slow. USB adapters are fine for static images (i.e.: Word documents, Excel spreadsheets.) Just don't expect to play WoW on the USB screen.

  • How do I find out what app is connecting to the internet

Something on my iPhone 4 (fully updated) is constantly trying to connect to the internet via 3G, costing me a lot of money when I am not connected via WLAN! I can't work out what it is, but presume it is an app. How can I find out what is doing it?
I have tried deleting the cache, resetting the phone, etc. Nothing has worked. I even turned off 3G, cellular data, etc. and it STILL connected. How does that work?!
    Can anyone help?
    thank you!
    kind regards, Gordon

thanks for the reply but are you sure about this? What difference would it make? Why 5 apps?
Even if it does work, which I doubt, at some point, I will have to resync ALL my apps again and surely the same thing will happen again, and I will be none the wiser. I still won't know which app it is. There must be a way of finding this out.
    Any ideas?
What is really freaking me out is how it is connecting to my carrier (who is charging me) with Cellular data switched off.......?
    Thanks again.

  • Windows 7 - What Constitutes a Connection Under the 20 Connection Limit?

    Background
Currently testing some enterprise software the company I work for designs, and our current scope of support allows for installations on Windows 7. We have multiple services running on the 'server' and we're communicating with clients on various IP ports,
as well as running a webpage through IIS. At the very minimum we have two connections from a client system at any time over two different ports, this can grow depending on what's being run as part of the client.
    Environment
The environment consists of the following:
Windows 7 'Server' running a local instance of SQL Express, also hosting ASP.NET webpage.
Windows 7/Vista/XP Clients connecting over IP to 2-4 different ports
    Question
There's a host of threads and documentation on the 20 connection limit within Windows 7, but really no clear answer as to what constitutes a 'connection'. Some Microsoft documentation says TCP connections, some say SMB connections, and a half dozen form
posts claim one or the other. I did a quick test last night with a client simulation tool which pushed two connections to the server for each client, and connected 25 clients (total of 50 connections) and was not refused subsequent connections.
What exactly removes an available connection from the pool of 20?
Unlimited connections from a single IP address? (each computer removes an available connection from the limit)
Per TCP connection? (each connection to a port removes an available connection from the limit)
Per Windows User? (each connection from a Windows user removes an available connection from the limit)
Or is the 20 connection limit strictly applied to SMB?
I also see the following in the EULA for Windows 7 Professional:
Device Connections. You may allow up to 20 other devices to access software installed on the licensed computer to use only File Services, Print Services, Internet Information Services and Internet Connection Sharing and Telephony Services.
Does this indicate the 20 connection limit only applies to IIS, ICS, File/Print Sharing?
Greatly appreciate the time taken to answer this.
    Cheers,
    James.

    Hi James,
The 20 connection limit applies to File and Printer sharing.

Regarding TCP, IIS connection limit, it is hard to confirm. Since Vista SP2 the limitation have been removed from TCPIP.SYS, and has been configured through a registry key. Windows7
should follow that same behavior. You can also consult in IIS forum.

  • XFI Titanium HD - What cable or connection to use for best quality sound?

I plan on buying the xfi HD today, which will replace my champion series. I saw that it does not offer many outputs like the champion series, and would like to know which give the best qualioty optical cable or rca cables. O have the Z5500 system btw. I want to buy the proper cables when i go pick this up later today. Thanks!

DO not buy the titanium HD unless you are not going to use it for 5. surround. Yes indeed it does have optical out. which will give you 5. surround. but when using optical you are by passing the cards internal DACS and using the DACS in the logitech control pod which are no where near quality of the sound card.
if you want the best sound i advice you to use analog which the titanium HD does not have. there is no word weather or not there going to make a addon board for this. i asked numerous times. now if you dont mind using logitech to control sound. but you would be essentionally wasting almost 200 dollars.
alot of companies do not tell you this.when using optical connections you are BYPASSING the sound cards compon that make it good. analog is the way to go!
unless your using a external receiver with excellent dacs inside
