What camcorder works best with iMovie (and ATV)?

Sooner or later I will buy a HD camcorder to replace my SD MiniDV camera. I know that iMovie has serious problems with interlaced material. So I guess I should buy one that shoots progressive. But what else should I keep in mind? I shall edit the footage in iMovie and view it in Apple TV. Good picture quality and seamless editing and sharing workflow is appreciated.

  • What browsers work best with PowerBook G4 Mac OS X 10.4

What browsers work best with PowerBook G4 Mac OS X 10.4?

I still use Firefox 3.6.28  FF 3 is an old version and I get all kinds of warning from Mozilla about it, but I have deactivated those and it still opens web sites perfectly fine.  Others have gone to using TenFourFox but I had a group of plugins for Firefox that would not work with TFF.
The main thing you will encounter with browsing these days is a modern Flash plugin no longer supporting G-series Macs.  I still use the newest that was available for PPC Macs and have not encountered problems.  If you need help I can post about that too but it's a long post.

What printers work best with the new 21.5" iMac Thunderbolt?

Which iMac model and which Mac OSX version? The pre-2006 iMacs this forum covers are now either poorly supported or complete adandoned by most pritner makers.
If "About this Mac" (from your Apple menu at the left end f the menubar) shows the word "Intel," please let us klnow and we can get you moved to the forum for newer iMacs; that one gets much more traffic.

  • What type of camcorder should I buy?  Which works best with iMovie?

Ok...so from my previous post I have come to the conclusion with some help from my new discussion board friends , that I should ditch my Sony mini DVD, and reinvest in a mini DV camera for ease of use with QT Pro and iMovie....that being said...tell me what YOU ALL use? How easy is it to connect to Mac? Firewire? Editing? iMovie making? Trial and errors? Pro/Cons? Sony? Other brands?

    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

    Hi Karsten et al.
I have a problem that I am desperate for any kind of feedback from. Can you help?
Last week I bought a Sony DCR-SR90 HDD camcorder, thinking it would be simple to pull files from this hard drive camcorder straight into iMovie.
However, there is only a USB connection, and the bundled software is for PCs only. I had to download an MPEG2 program from Apple (£14.99) just to be able to import the files and now it does so, but without sound. Moreover, the quality of the image is awful in the iMovie viewing window.
I have a feeling that this Sony camcorder, though quite new, is not compatible with an Apple Powerbook and/or iMovie. This is disastrous as it cost £850 and I need it for my own wedding in September.
My question is: is it worth taking this machine back to Jessops and getting a Mini-DV camcorder that is definitely compatible with Apple/iMovie, or is there a way to get this funky Sony camcorder to sync/work with a Mac?
Second: if I exchange it for a different camcorder, which one should I get guys???!!! (it's vital that it works with iMovie as I like to make decent edited home movies with music, effects etc).
    Can you help???

  • Which camcorder works best with iDVD/iMovie?

So I'm buying a new camcorder. Which camcorder is the easiest to use with iDVD and iMovie? For now I just want to view and produce a DVD.
I had a JVC Everio and returned it. Converting MPEG-2 to DV I guess can be done but seems like a lot of work. My first attempt with Streamclip asked me to buy the MPEG-2 module.
I'm now looking at a Sony HDR-SR1. Thought the AVCHD would be MPEG-4 compatible and work with iMovie/iDVD but not sure. It will record in both AVCHD and MPEG-2 though.
Any suggestions or ideas? I could really use the help.

    Welcome Michael Snell
I use sony camcorders (minidv plus i.Link) successfully with iLife '06 and FCP HD. The ones to avoid are those that record to DVD directly or to an internal hard drive. Make sure your camera has digital pass thru which will also allow you to connect most analog sources as well should you need to like a VCR or another camera for import into iMovie via firewire.
Canon also works well but represents my second choice of minidv cameras.
JVC is in the same situation and would represent a third choice IMO.
The good news is that almost any minidv camcorder will work on a mac that uses fw provided it records to mini dv tape and has a firewire or i.Link connector/s.

  • What camcorders work best with a Mac Pro?

I have a late 2008 Mac Pro which uses OS X Version 10.6.8. Does anyone know if the Canon Vixia R500, R50, R52, or JVC EVerio Quad-proof would work? Would any of the recent Sony camcorders be compatible with my Mac Pro? Thanks.

Hi Al. Seems to be that you are the editor I was looking for. I have an Imac itel core 2 duo. 10.5.8 OS (2008) with Leopard and I'm editing with FINAL CUT EXpress 4. Soon I will upgrade because my plan is do some heavy editing in HD and burn Blue Ray. I'm really torn between the Canon Vixia and your Panny HDC SDT 750 (because of 3CCD and 35mm wide) but what I care most it's about the log, transfer and editing . Any bad experience with log, transfer editing, etc with this camera? Do you need special software? Transfer are normal, not long or unstable?. If you have any suggestion for my computer (need to upgrade I guess) will be more than welcome.
    Thanks. Julian

  • What antivirus works best with Lion?

I am running a mid 2010 build 13" MacBook Pro with Lion (from a clean install rather than from a Snow Leopard upgrade) and my existing Kaspersky antivirus for Mac licence is running out.
I occasionally use Parallels 6 & Windows 7 and have that protected by Norton.
Has anyone any recommendations on what is the best Mac antivirus program that is compatible with Lion?
    Thanks,
         george_51

    Thanks for the help everyone.
I found my machine to be really really slow the day after the Kaspersky licence had expired so I then deleted Kaspersky completely and guess what my machine was back to its usual swift self - definitely a thumbs down for the folks at Kaspersky... It also put an end to three automated e-mails a day from them asking me to renew my licence.
After looking around I trialled ClamXAV but then decided to rely on my Lion firewall, my own good sense (perhaps the weakest link in this chain) and Little Snitch which I bought after trialling the download.
    Job done.

  • What hardware works best with elements?

    Hi:
I am purchasing a new computer and want to buy one that will help elements to work faster.  I will be taking lotsa pictures.  Do external hard drives work just as well as internal hard drives? Should I focus more on ram, chip, etc??
    Thanks

Actually, what works well for PrPro, will work well for PrElements, with one exception - PrE does not yet take advantage of CUDA/MPE, so one can get by with a lower-level GPU for PrE. That might change, with PrE 12 (probably to be released about Oct, 2013), but no one knows yet.
Now, if you also use Photoshop CS 6, the GPU does become more important, but still not at the level as PrPro CS 6.
Also, if one thinks that they might be upgrading the software to PrPro CS 6 in the future, then going with a CUDA card now, should be just fine, if the software is later upgraded.
As for using externals, there are some considerations, but they DO work well. This article goes into more detail: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4542396#4542396
    Good luck,

  • Whcih external hard drive works best with macs and time machine

I'm looking for an external hard drive preferably at circuit city since I have $100 in gift cards.
I'm looking at the Acomdata pure drive 500 and 750
The Western Digital Mybook essential edition 500 and 750
    Simpletech 500GB
    Simpletech redrive 500GB
    or Maxtor 500GB
I don't which one to pick as there are negative reviews on all of them with crashing after only one year. If not any of these what other one to pick, would like it to be from circuit city, not matter what your opinion might be of them.
I know about the Lacie drives and the G-drive but those seems expensive and only from apple store. I have airport extreme so only need usb connection so i don't care what other ports it has.
It seems like a really tough decision and looking for some help.
    Let me know

    Hi,\ not sure how this translates to the USA market (brand names) Im UK;
But I've been using a Lacie external hard drive for ages without problems.
Not so sure about Western Digital, - I've heard some bad reports.
I posted a request myself, and Lacie came back highly reccomended, so thats why I chose them.

  • What version works best with Windows2000

I have a PC with 2 GBs of RAM, running W2K, primarily. I had avoided upgrading from the Firefox 3.x.x series ( or 5 ? ) because it was my understanding that it was the last one suitable for Windows2000. Not long ago, I got an automatic robot request from Firefox to update, and tried to make sure it was still within the compatibility range for W2k.
I thought that I was getting a minor update to a W2K version, but instead, have Firefox 12, which has totally disrupted my internet activity because it constantly bogs down into barely running, or else freezes up for long periods, and frequently crashes.
I want to roll back to whatever I'd used before this disaster. And if there's any special ways to do that, I want to know how it works. Thanks.
    Kiwi

You can get Firefox 3.6.28 here:
    * http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Be sure to set it so that it will not auto update. In the about:config window, set these items to false:
    * app.update.auto
    * app.update.enabled

  • What docks work best with otterbox defender

Are there any docking stations that work with an iPhone 4 in an Otterbox defender case. I am looking for something I can dock to without having to remove my case everynight. I'm not really to warm and fuzzy about dock extenders either. If not for the Otterbox how about the Life Proof or the Ballistic HC as those are some cases I have been considering?

Well, the Lifeproof will be even more of a PITA than the Ballistic, which is worse than the Defender, as far as hooking up to a dock
You may have to go about with the dock extenders, it's the only way it would work well.
