The camera is not so much of an issue here as making sure that you get the right glass(lens) .
Both Nikon and Canon have specialty lenses to allow Macro (1:1 or lifesize or greater magnification) images to be made.
I would also recommend that you get a good tripod and focusing rails to mount your camera on as most macro photography is best done using manual focus and moving the camera.  This is due to the fact that macro lenses have a very shallow depth of field.
If you don't want to go to this extreme, then at least get a small sturdy tripod and always use a remote shutter release.
All of this is related to DSLR's.
If you want to go the PnS route, then look for one that emphasizes its macro capability and again, use a tripod.  Again, the lens is the most important item here.
Actually, no - lens is not the most important - coins are highly reflective and as a result VERY difficult to light properly - the lighting equipment is going to be the most important.
Lens will be second most important - you can probably do fine for coin photography with one of the common pseudo-macro lenses that only do 1:2 and not 1:1.  However a true 1:1 macro lens will give you the most flexibility.
Since the lighting equipment is the most important, the key here is going to be that the camera has support for an external flash.  This is guaranteed for an SLR but rare in P&S cameras.

Discussion about this issue at MacWorld.com:  http://www.macworld.com/article/2082783/first-look-promises-pegasus2-r6-thunderb olt-2-raid-array.html

I've used the original Pegasus R6 units for a couple of years now and have been very pleased with them.  On the two occasions I've had to call on their technical sujpport, I've found them readily available, knowledgeable, and very helpful.  In one case it involved the reset of a unit after a power failure at an inopportune time; in the other case it was a question about upgrading disk drives to higher capacities (1 Gb gto 4 Gb).  I was pleased to learn that their tech support people were in California and as good if not better than upper-tier AppleCare reps. The hardware itself has functioned flawlessly so far.

You can only return the machine if you're within 14 days of purchase - otherwise you're just 'stuck' with what you purchased (unless you sell it, of course).
I always recommend that Retina owners order 16GB of RAM as the RAM is not upgradable - it's soldered onto the logic board.
Your call - if you're with 14 days of purchase, take it back and exchange for a 16GB model. Or sell it and buy a model with 16GB. The higher amount of memory will allow you to run far more memory-hungry apps concurrently.
    Good luck,

  • What is the solution for auto close ai cc in my pc ??

when i click ai cc then it was run & there is shows me ai cc tryout version then when i try to open a file in this moment it automatically closed. so what should i do for it ?

The answer is to make sure they really "reformated" the harddrive. The drive was fine after using the secure reformat in disk utility. I wasted $200 because they "imaged" the disk and with it all the "corrupt" user files.
Seriously Apple, you have the records prove me wrong.

  • What is the best Logitech (or other) camera to buy for use with 10.3.9?

I have heard that both Gearhead and Rocketfish have many issues. I read that Logitech cameras, various ones, work with either 10.2 and under or 10.4.9 and over. The Isight prices on ebay or very high. Calls to both Logitech and Apple leave me disconcerted with there cryptic answers. Officially, it seems that Logitech has no camera that works with 10.3.9 but I have read that it has been done. I don't need all the bells and whistles that a new model Logitech camera provides and I know I won't get those on the MaC, however, I would like a good pictre and Skype compatibility. I know I can get iChatUSB and Macam drivers with some cameras. Can I do all that on 10.3.9? Is there another, different company that makes good cameras I can use with 10.3.9? A call to Creative Labs brought me a "no" when I asked him if any of their cams were 10.3.9 compatible but I question if he was right.
I know there has to be many of you out there with this issue - no Isight, but using Panther with a really good after market camera and really satisfied with the results...what did you do?
Please help me and tell me what my best option is....upgrading seems very expensive as well.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Stovepipeforever
I use iSight, but if you do not get better answers here, I offer the following for your consideration.
If you have a Mac compatible, Firewire connected DV camcorder, it will work for your video chats. If not, take your portable Mac with you when you go shopping, and ask to try any camera of interest with your computer and software before you buy. That way you will KNOW you have one that works for you with the apps you want to use.
Unless your 10.3.9 laptop has a G3 processor whose speed is less than 600 Mhz, it can give you a good picture and Skype compatibility if your system meets the other system requirements for all the apps you plan to use. Any camera's video frame rates will be noticeably slow if your laptop is a sub-600 Mhz G3.
If multi-party video chat or screen sharing are not important to you, there is no need to upgrade to later versions Mac OS X and iChat. The latest version of Skype is compatible with 10.3.9 and later, so there is no Skype impact on your upgrade decision.
You are correct that you will need iChatUSBCam and drivers to send iChat video from your 10.3.9 Laptop. (Your laptop system will also need to meet the other System Requirements for iChat AV 2.1 that are not obviated by using iChatUSBCam.
Although other USB cams may work, you can use iChatUSBCam's camera guide page to find a list of USB cameras that are Known Working Configurations. Any of them should be compatible with Skype, but check the camera's compatibility info before you buy to be sure it claims to work with Skype. If it works with Skype for Windows, it will work with Skype for Mac.

  • What is best type of 'new' video camera to buy for editing with PE 10?

I currently own two Sony miniDV camcorders (models DCR-HC28 and HC40) and was doing fine in Premiere Elements and recently upgraded to version 10. I was in the process of using the HC40 cam as a 'pass-through' device to digitize some old VHS tapes, and it worked well for copying from VHS to miniDV tape. Then, I could capture in Premiere Elements and edit, etc. (It would never work to pass all the way through to capture in PE in one step using Firewire).  Now, the HC40 camera has locked up on me halfway through my box of VHS tapes, and is stuck showing the Time/Date screen and the touch screen seems to be disabled.  What to do?
There do exist plenty of used DCR-HC40 and 52s (which also support pass-through) on Amazon for sale in the $200 range, and that is one option.  I also went to Best Buys this week and looked at all the new Sony video cameras, and they fell into basically two series:  the DCR-SX series, which record in standard definition onto flash memory (SD cards), and the more expensive HDR-CX series, which record in Hi Definition (also on SD cards) but also, I was told, can record in standard definition.  The miniDV camcorders are no more, apparently.  I am not so enamored of HD recording that I would go whole hog for it, as I am happy with the results I have been getting with my miniDV cameras once burned to DVD or converted to MPEG or MP4 for playing on my iPhone, etc. Plus, HD takes up so much more memory and space on the hard drive compared to standard def files.
I called Sony tech services today to find out that none of the new cameras support the pass-through function for digitizing from old VHS cassettes, so I am looking at buying a VHS-digitizing device as recommended here on the forum such as the ADS Pyro AV Link or Grass Valley ADVC110.  Since I would rather spend that money on a new video camera instead of merely the AV link device which I will have no use for once the tapes are digitized, my question comes back to the cameras. Which of the new cameras will be most ideal for editing in PE10 going forward, or is it best to stick with miniDV for now?
Steve G has always seemed to point out that miniDV tape and the ensuing AVI files are the best for PE to work with.  Sony told me today that even the SD cameras such as the DCR-SX65SD ($219) now record onto the SD cards in MPEG2 format, and that AVI is a thing of the past that died with the miniDV tapes.  I assume MPEG2 still comes out as different clips that one assembles on the Timeline in PE10?  One probably could convert the MPEG2 files to AVI, but would that give the same quality as an original AVI file from a miniDV tape? And if MPEG2 is the new standard going forward, do the resulting videos made with PE10 have the same quality as those made from 'native' AVI files?  I will buy a used DCR-HC40 miniDV camera if the end result is better than those to be obtained with the brand new DCR or HDR series cameras now available in stores.  But if the quality is the same, I could perhaps opt for one such as the HDR-CX 130HD ($349) which also records in SD in case some years from now I decide I really DO want to switch to HD formats.
Any advice on choice/use of the newer cameras and their default formats such as MPEG2 is welcome, in relation to PE10 editing and output capabilities.
    Thanks very much,   paultool3

    Dear JM and Steve,
Thanks much for your replies.  I plan to get my DCR-HC40 miniDV camera fixed so I can use it for pass-through digitizing from VHS tapes.  I also recently bought one of the Dazzle Video Creator Platinum capture units ($84 at Best Buys) just to try it, and actually got pretty good results in digitizing a VHS-C tape using a VHS-C to VHS adapter unit to play it in our VCR, and then using the Pinnacle Studio HD (version 15) that came with the Dazzle unit to import and digitize through the Dazzle unit.
The Dazzle unit would not show up in Premiere Elements 10 as an option to capture from, but did in Pinnacle Studio 15.   I used our Sony VAIO with i7 processor and Pinnacle captured the one hour, twenty-five minute- long VHS-C tape to a single 18GB .AVI  clip which I then was able to bring into Premiere Elements 10 and use for output in various formats.
When using a less powerful laptop initially, the digitizing failed, with 319 dropped frames in the first 5 minutes.. So it takes a more powerful computer to work with a capture unit like Dazzle, apparently.
I will eventually be shopping around for a new,  AVCHD format video camera as well based on your recommendations, but the current group of Sonys in this category, such as the HDR-CX130HD ($349) which record video onto SD cards, are getting bad reviews from CNET, claiming they have poor quality HD and other issues.  So for the forseeable future I will be sticking with miniDV using my Sony DCR-HC28 and HC40 camcorders.

  • The camera on my ipad cannot be launched, the shutter appears closed and the button for taking a picture is not there. When tryying to use intsgram the message camera cannot be launched appears .tried to restart but problem still there

My camera is not working .shutter appears closed.tried to restart ipad but problem still there.no problem with photo booth problem with istangram

Try closing the Camera app via the taskbar and see if it works properly when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
And by restart do you mean a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear (you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot). If not, and if closing the app doesn't fix it, then you could try that.

  • Camera app freezes when taking a picture.

Almost everytime I try to use my iPhone 4 camera, it freezes.  If I'm patient enough for the app to launch, pressing the camera button deosn't seem to snap a picture for up to one minute.  The whole phone locks up until I hear the snap shot.  At one point I thought it was an issue with the GPS tag but even turning that off resulted in the same stalling.  There's nothing more that frustrates me about my iPhone than this.  Does anyone have any idea what the issue could be?

Unfortunately, your naivete about complex electronic devices has misled you into a common misconception that Problem A = Cause B = Painless, no-effort, Solution C.  It's all magic to you.
Virtually any problem can have a multitude of causes, if for no other reason that you have incompletely described the total state of the phone.  More broadly, your camera problem is being caused either by corrupted code and or settings, of unknown origin, or a hardware issue.  There is no way anyone determine psychicly.  The only way to find out is the standard troubleshooting steps developted by Apple, and described In the User Guide.
it's taking more than half a day to put a big bandage on the wound and hope it fixes it.
Nonsense.  1-2 hours tops for 2 restores.
This has been a problem with the phone since the day I bought it.  It can occur everyimte I use the camera app for a week then not happen as much for a couple months.  In the past year, I have restarted, reset restored, etc several times and I still have this problem
You oddly failed to mention any of that in your initial post, and instead endowed us with whining about your frustration level...  You didn't mention doing ANY of the troubleshooting steps you now describe.  Yet another example of entitlement trumping logic.
The bottom line:  Restore the phone as new (without restoring the backup), if you haven't done so already.  If that doesn't work, you need warranty replacement of the phone.

  • What camera raw plugin for Photoshop CS2 + Canon Rebel T21

I still have the excellent Photoshop CS2 and bought a Canon EOS Rebel T2i. However, the raw files come up in Bridge without picture preview. The file is a CR2 file. When double-clicked, Photoshop 2 opens and gives error dialog:
"Could not complete request because not right kind of document."
I see that version 5.7 and 6.1 of Adobe Camera Raw Plug in are compatible with this camera. Can I use either plug in with Photoshop 2?

Congratulations on your decision to move up to Photoshop CS5.  It's a good product.
I'm not sure exactly what you mean by your question, though...
In my own case, I have .CR2 files associated with a program called Irfan View so that when I double click a .CR2 file it opens immediately in this very fast image viewer program.  All .CR2 files have embedded JPEG previews, and I can view these embedded JPEGs from my raw files instantaneously with Irfan View.
While using Explorer, if I want to open an image file with Photoshop (i.e., to do an actual raw conversion), I either drag the file and drop it on a desktop Photoshop icon -or- I right-click the file and choose Open With - Adobe Photoshop CS5.
Multiple versions of Photoshop will live happily side by side on the same system.  You just can only run one of them at a time.
Most folks recommend leaving older versions of Photoshop installed.  This allows you access to the version you're familiar with so that you can go back and check settings, save actions, etc. and it does provide you a backup editor if something should go wrong with the new one.
Assuming you have the disk space, you never really need to uninstall an older version of Photoshop, and in fact uninstalling Photoshop after installing a newer version is reported to cause problems in some cases.

  • What is your process for bringing in pictures for PSE7? Have Barbara's book for PE3, but......

I'll try to ask my question in a different way. New computer, new PSE7.  Where can I learn the best process to load my images onto my new computer and store &/or organize them?  I also have an external hard drive. I'm very curious as to how others do it.
Are there any online tutorials? Is Barbara's book helpful for PSE7? Can someone just list their step by step basics of loading their images to their computers?   I can use my SD card OR my camera's USB cord. Any help is appreciated!

Barbara, when the options Window opens up, which option would you choose?  (BTW, I don't use RAW)  In the past my images were in the organizer & in "My pictures". I enjoy doing some editing of images I want to keep, then I want them saved "somewhere".  However, I thought I might be using up more of my hard drive than necessary by having them in two places.  I know these are the most basic of questions, but I'd like to start out on the right foot, so to speak.  One more question:  I use Canon cameras, and when I plug the card or USB cable into my computer ALL of my images are brought up each time, even those I've already downloaded...that's probably how it's supposed to be? Do I have to delete my images on my camera to avoid having them come up each time?  So many questions, but I surely appreciate the help!

  • What best to buy for exporting machine

    Hello everyone,
My I suggested to buy new workforce to increase our export hours per week so we can deliver more material to our clients per week, and my boss gave me green light to buy 3 computers. I already have 3 machines (2 pc cori7 and cori5 and mac pro), I will only use the 3 machines to export no editing or other major tasks to be done on them, all editing process are done on my i7 & mac pro machines, what I wanna know is that for the machines that I will buy -which will be used only for exporting, what matters the most to get the fastest export, an i7 with a built in graphic card near to 1 GB or something or should I custome install a 3 GB graphic card for example?
We wanna buy asap, appreciate all fast responds (and of course late ones ), hope to meet our planned target to meet customer's demand.
    Regards

For Premiere information take a look at the PPBM6/7 results for export times for four different export times..  You will have to register to see the results page.  To see the four test results look at the output file, the first result is the disk I/O timeline export time, the second number is the export of the H.264 timeline, the third number is the GPU assisted export of the MPEG2-DVD timeline which is an AVCHD clip with lots of GPU assisted effects and features (like scaling down to SD) for DVD playback, and the fourth number is the export time of that same timeline with CPU processing only.. Looking at the Speccy file will give you the hardware configuration.

  • What mouse to buy for Win 7 on Parallels 8?

I'll be installing Windows 7 64-bit with parallels 8 on a MacBook Pro. I want to get a mouse to use mostly with the windows application. What kind of mouse should I buy? I just want whatever will be the easiest to install and use, meaning I'd like a mouse with both right and left buttons and maybe a scroll wheel thing. I don't care if it's a USB connected mouse or wireless. I just want whatever I can plug into my laptop and just have all the buttons work with windows with a minimum of fuss. Can I just buy a mouse that would ordinarily be connected to a PC and just use that? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You probably should be asking these questions in the Parallels forums.
But, my experience is that most if not all mice for Windows are plug and play. Unless the mouse has some special or unique features which then may require you to install the drivers that come with the mouse. But two button and scroll wheel are not special features and should work plug and play using the Windows built in drivers.
