What camera would be best

Need help in selecting a camera and lenses.
Need good digital photos of both Paintings and landscapes.  Would like a camera with the option of different lenses.  Would like high pixel content and good battery life.
Advice would be appreciated.

You'll be looking at the Rebel series for interchangable lenses and the T4i & T5i or the SL 1all of which have an 18 megapixel sensor. You may also want to research the EOS M (I haven't done any real reading about it.)
There are good reviews here that may point you in the right direction as to which fits your needs best

The kit lens included with Rebel bodies would be a good start lens wise but I'm sure you'll want to explore lenses more once you get shooting.

  • What cable would be best to transfer files?

I just brought a 2013 rMBP- 13' and want to transfer files from a 2009 iMac running 10.6.8. Can I use Migration Assistant...if so what cable would be best? Firewire to firewire?  Also will Snow Leopard be able to talk with Maverick?

Just to be sure....Since there isn't a firewire port on the new 2013 rMBP, I add the Apple ThunderBolt to FireWire Adapter then connect it with a firewire 800 cable to the 2009 iMac.  Then Migration Assistant will be able to transfer over files, etc. Correct?

  • What Router Would Be Best If Using Two PlayStation 3 Consoles?

What Router Would Be Best If Using Two PlayStation 3 Consoles That  Are Connected To The Same Broadband Internet Connection? My Two Cousins Aren't Able To Connect To The Same Lobby Party Together As I Am To Play COD MW3. They Have Tried Having Both Consoles Hardwired to the Router But The Same Problem Of Having Only One Of My Two Cousins To Be Able To Connect To The Lobby Party While The Other One Can't Connect.  Thanks For Any Help With This Issue.

My router easily handles 2-4 PS3s at a time during Uncharted multiplayer and its a few years old.  Its a Linksys Wireless N (model no. WRT150N).  Like I said, its not the newest but it handles all our consoles just fine.  My internet speed is 24mbps, maybe your cousins need a faster connection? Hope this helps.

  • What amplifier would work best for Airport Express?

I have built in a ceiling speakers in all my rooms and all the rooms have their own apple macmini or laptop
All wiring of the speakers come to a central media room, and in this, I want to place 8 airport express to allow each room to be able to play through itunes onto their ceiling speaker. Effectively we could also put all speakers on from one room and create a party mode
The problem is that airport express requires powered speakers and these ceiling speakers are not powered of course. This means I would need to put an amplifier between the airport express and the speaker (I think)
Just wondering if anyone has successfully done this?
I have had a look at multi zone amplifier like
    http://www.htd.com/whole-house-audio/mid-level-whole-house-audio/MCA-66-Audio-Co ntroller-Amplifier
Most multi zone amplifiers have their own keypad, but with apple you do not require this as you can control it straight from your mac! So what I want to do is control the INPUT level on the amplifier, and fix the output level on the amplifier, if I am thinking right..... as I thought this would work best ...
then if you put the volume control on the mac to MAX the amplifier would already be preset to max and the ceiling speakers would rock
    Any suggestions or .....
    Thanks

In this Macworld article, they just use multiple Parasound Zamps, which are single zone amps that turn on and off by themselves, depending on when sound is passing through. I'm planning on doing this with my new construction because it looks like a simple setup with no remotes needed save the iPhone, which I always have on me.

  • I have a MacBook Pro OS X v.10.9.1 that doesn't seem to have a DVD player installed. Any thoughts on what app would be best?

I have a MacBook Pro that doesn't seem to have a DVD player installed. Any ideas on what would be best for viewing?

    Hi
I would try this - from Apple
To burn DVDs  - You know that they come in two versions ?
Data-DVDs - to store files (even movie files) onto - Can not be played on any Video-DVD-player.
Video-DVDs - as commersial movie DVDs
Data-DVDs - can be burned directly from DeskTop/Finder (but only one time/DVD - no incremental storage)
    Video-DVDs - needs a DVD-authoring program.
    • iDVD - is the best possibly for most of us (not avail. from Apple any more)
    • DVD Studio Pro - best ever made ? (not avail. from Apple any more)
    • Roxio Toast™ - I like (I got, I use - rather often)
    • Compressor - $50 from Apple
    • Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store (very simple - Quality ?? not sure - looked problematic reg. Interlacing)
    • Burn - a free alternative from Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
My old note on this - same same:
If there is no iDVD on Your Mac (and it's not on newer Macs as Apple discarded it) then You need a program that can do this.
Your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs - BUT DVD as Data-DVDs not as Video-DVDs - they need a program to be encoded and STRUCTURED as such.
iDVD is part of the boxed version of iLife'11 and can only be bought outside Apple as on Amazon and e-bay
DVD Studio pro - Part of FinalCut Studio Pro bundle - this to has expired and can only be bought second handed. (High price and tough learning Curve - but best ever done.)
Roxio Toast™ - Not as elegant as iDVD - but has many other positive additions (I like it as 10-Pro incl BD-component) (now version 11)
FinalCut Pro-X which also can burn to DVD but without any nice themes.
    AppleMan1958
You can also buy Compressor from Apple for $50 US. It will also create DVD and BluRay but without the nice themes.
    Free solutions:
Burn - a free alternative from Internet. Very simple - Just for doing a plain Video-DVD
    Burn http://www.digital-digest.com/software/Burn.html
Gives a fairly good resulting Video-DVD
Free DVD Creator.app - free from Apple Store
(very simple - Quality ?? not sure - looked problematic reg. Interlacing)
    Yours Bengt W

  • What camera would you recommend

What a great source of information this group is.
In my quest for knowledge on iMovie HD 6, I have been lurking and reading just about everything posted. I can't help but notice the variety of cameras, and formats that are being used.
Since I'm at a point of upgrading some of my equipment, I thinking maybe it should include a Camera. I'm sure there must be many makes, and models that would work better with iMovie than what I have, but are there any that would also help in my editing process too?
I couldn't find a list of cameras that have been recommend, so if there is one, please point me at it.
In lieu of this, or along with this, maybe you would like to brag on your favorite camera, and share the make and model, and why it is your favorite.
Of the different formats, Is there one that is better than the others.
TIA for any information you provide.
    Lee

Note that importing hi-definition video from an HDV camcorder will be -v-e-r-y -s-l-o-w- if you're using a G4 iBook. You really need a multi-processor G5, or an Intel-based Mac to import and edit HDV, and for the computer to be able to handle hi-def video in "real time".
So if you're sticking with your G4 for now, you want a tape-based miniDV camcorder which shoots Standard-Def widescreen (16:9) as well as regular 4:3-shaped video. If you may be getting a new Mac in 6 months or a year, you could get an HDV-and-Standard-Def miniDV camcorder, and just use it in standard-def for now.
Note that AVCHD camcorders (not ones which use DVDs, but ones which record onto memory chips or hard discs) are only compatible with the new iMovie '08 running on an Intel-based processor, and NOT with iMovie '06, nor iMovie '08 on an older PowerPC processor ..so you would never be able to import AVCHD video directly into any version of iMovie on your G4 iBook (..though you could turn the AVCHD video into iMovie '06 compatible video if you download a separate program called Voltaic ..click on that blue link for details).
So; tape-based miniDV for use with a G4 iBook (..and iMovie HD '06..), or a newer format of camcorder (AVCHD, hard disc, solid-state memory) or tape-based HDV only if you're going to update your Mac at the same time.

  • What platform would be best suited for this application?

What I am trying to develop is a multiplayer game that is
similar to sites such as pogo.com or yahoo games where it is
multiplayer with separate rooms and each of those rooms shared
information, but not between each other. It will of course also
need database access. I have been developing in FMS but now I found
the existence of Remoting and just wondering which would be a
better solution for me and if anyone can, explain the clear
difference between the two and an example of an application for
    each?
it may also be of importance to include that the platform I'm
developing for has no java capability.

  • [Solved]What WM would be best for a dedicated console emulator box?

    Hey all
So, using a recycled, slightly old small-form-factor computer, I am making a dedicated emulation box. It will run game console emulators for every game system I can think of. But anyways, that is what I intend to use this box for, and only that. I have been setting it up from an Arch Linux base install, aiming to consume the least resources I can (because it is an older box, and I want the best performance with my emulators). I need a recommendation on a Window manager that therefore:
-Does not have ANY sort of taskbars/titlebars/other stuff in the way.
    -Consumes the least resources possible
Now, the current winner is just a default X11 shell that is seen when xinit is run. However, the shell does not cover the whole screen. I want the screen to be all one colour. Because I want the look of using this box with my friends to make it look put together.
    Any recommendations?

I dunno about dwm, it has some bugs with fullscreen apps - funnily enough emulators seem to give it trouble, ScummVM will not run fullscreen on my install for instance.
I'd vote for Openbox, it has no taskbar or anything by default, windows will be initially themed but you can disable window borders and even the right click menu if you wish.
I was thinking openbox at first, because I use it on my main computer and know it pretty well. Thanks.
I was considering dwm, but thanks for the advisory about the fullscreen bugs.
I'll give evilwm a shot too. And give making the x11 shell bigger a shot too.
Thanks for the recommendations, but I have another quick question:
Is there any way to automatically login to the root account on the TTY without the use of X? This machine, once setup, will be only in my house and not connected to the internet, so the dangers of running as root are virtually 0. I want this because, on boot, I will just have to press power, and then without doing anything (aided by a bit of bash) I will be taken to a menu of sorts to select what console and game I want to play.

  • What solution would fit best

    Hello All
    I have a problem
In WLAN circles I can configure Autonomous AP's quite well but thats where my fun ends......
That is why this Discussion has been started....
I need a way of monitoring up to 30-40 AP's.
I reckon that the AP's will all Be 1140's due to the N Standard.
My infrastructure is already in place (Lots of 3750-X Switches :-)  )
But what can control/Confiure/allow access to the WLAN - this is my problem
I have looked at 2 pieces of equipment but am not sure if either of these would do the job
    They are
    WLC4400 Series
    and
    CiscoWorks WLSE Express 2.13
I reckon they can both have local user lists (because I dont want to user the AD) for guest/Internal access to the WLAN (guest is internet and local is Intranet) and can split the traffic accordingly into the correct VLAN.
I do not really need to see where rouges are cos there will not be any due to controlled environment and do not need to upload any maps of where the AP's are to see how well lit it is - I just need to control the Guest and Internal users on the WLAN......
I have a budget of around €12k just for the Controller - would this be enough?
    Any other suggestions ?
    Thanks
    Fraser

I need a way of monitoring up to 30-40 AP's.
Sure.  You'll need a WLC for this.  But which one?
    CiscoWorks WLSE Express 2.13
Don't see any benefits to this unless you want to use Autonomous Wireless Access Points.
I reckon that the AP's will all Be 1140's due to the N Standard.
    Good choice.
    WLC4400 Series
Ok.  This goes both ways.  You have 1140.  So if you upgrade to 7.X IOS and, say, you use WLC 5508 you can enable OfficeExtend on a 1140.
My choice is for a 5508-50 and drop the WLSE.  You won't need a WCS either.

  • What computer would be best for me?

I am currently 13 years old, and ready to buy a new computer. But would a laptop be better for me? or a Desktop Computer?
I already have a laptop, but I will be replacing it with a new computer.
I don't think I should worry much about portability.
Price is very important, as my parents cannot afford a computer that is higher than $2000.
I do casually play online games, but will be mainly using it for surfing the web and doing homehork.
I would like to have a good size of memory and storage without having to pay a lot for it.
But the most important thing is to have a computer that will last for a couple of years without having to replace it.
And, if a laptop is better for me, should I get a Macbook Air or Pro?
Or, if a desktop computer is better, should I get an iMac or Mac Mini?
    Thanks!

    Hi and Welcome!
I concur with Allan. Go for an iMac. Go for the 21 inch screen models. I would go for either model, but you have to order either with the complete 16 GBs of RAM as you can add RAM at all, in the future, EVER!
If you can, for speed, get it with the 1 TB fusion drive option, also.
    Good Luck and have fun!

    4:3, 2304x1728 (4M) 1878 frames
    16:9, 1920x1080 (2M) 3455 frames
    I have a fujifilm jx360, 16MP camera.
I plan to put them in my 4th generation ipod touch and 1st gen iPhone.
    Thanks.

It does not make any difference for the 4G iPod since iTunes optimizes the photos for the iPod, iPhone and iPad.  see:

  • What cameras would be good for 1920X 1080?

trying to format video using my sony hd camcorder using 1920x1080 and uploading to imovie?

iMove should be importing whatever resolution your camera is shooting.
It's not really a decision you have to make when importing.
Your camera should be labeled with it's model name.

  • What router would work best for my app?

    Hi,
I have been looking at two Cisco routers for my home/work network. They are the 1811 and the 871 series.
My network consists of 1 2K3 SBS (It dose my DHCP, Domain Controller, Wins, and active directory.), 2 Cad stations, 1 Email/web PC, 1 Notebook, and I will have 3 people VPN'ing in at any point in time for files.
Also, my broadband connection is cable (8m/768k) as of right now and will soon see FiOS in my area and I am looking at possibly getting the 15m/2m tier or the 30m/5m tier if the price is right. So will aether of these routers handle this wan connection speed?

The 871 peaks at about 12mbps vs. 35mbps for the 1811.
Check out this document to compare all models.
Hope this helps. Please rate this post.

  • What programs would be best to run to test the flickering and temp problem?

My new i7 has not shown any effects yet, but then, I have not put it through any stress tests. I do not want to particularly download too much new stuff. I am trying to work with the new mac as it comes from the factory for about 1 or 2 weeks before I start downloading or transferring files and data.
Are there any programs that are factory installed already, that I can use to really test the iMac both from the standpoint of flickering and temperature?
    Thanks

    Herschel Hochman wrote:
How can I stress the new machine to see if it will initiate flickering at the same time checking the temperature characteristics?
I had loaded and running about 25 programs, many of which were doing graphics or video. Certainly this was not a controlled and precise benchmark; I just wanted to make it as busy as I could for a while. No problem detected under the maximum I could manually stress the machine. Certainly things got hot and the fans were running faster but nothing serious.
Just monitor the temperature with iStat as the programs are running and run Activity Monitor to watch the workload/memory use. After that test, I was impressed with the ability of this thing to multi-task and the HDD / CPU / GPU / screen were flawless.
