What can a server allow me to do?

Hi guys
How can I assess information on my server via a different network? I have a Mac Mini Server but haven't set up yet. Will I be able to assess info on the server at work for example? I was told that I must have a static ip and set it up this way if I want to do this. Can someone help me please?
Thank you

Hello,
So you have a Mac Mini Server for home?
If it were my server I would use the VPN service. You will want a static IP if you can get one but you can get around this using dyndns. Your router will need to be configured to allow the VPN ports to pass through to your server. You server will also need to have a static ip for the ip range on your internal network. You will also want to setup file sharing using AFP or SMB or both. SMB better for windows and AFP better for Macs though Macs can also access the server over SMB.
I hope this helps a bit you will need to read up on setting up the server and understand a bit more on VPN and the likes before you can choose which options are best for you.
Good luck,
David Lee
