What can happen if someone took your SIM card?

Someone stole a relatives iPhone5 and someone found it but said it doesn't have a SIM card. We are meeting and verifying tomorrow. What can someone do with it and how will they benefit? The phone has already been disconnected so it's not like they can use it. My guess is maybe sell it? I'm just curious to know if there's a purpose for taking a SIM card.

It can be used with another GSM phone that uses a nano-SIM card until the SIM card is reported as lost or stolen with the carrier and deactivated by the carrier.
Other than that, there is no purpose or benefit for someone taking the SIM card except for disabling the Find My iPhone option.

Apparently, no one pays it... That's why they shut off your service.

  • Can i use someone else's sim card to activate my iphone 5c and then take it out?

I ordered an iphone 5c through eBay and i had been told before (by an iPhone 5c user) that i could use it as an iPod. But the iPhone does not come with a SIM card and i was told that the guy before did not transfer his account. If i use someone else's sim card, can i activate my iPhone using itunes and then give it back? if not, what can i do to activate it that does not require for me to buy an active SIM card? It's a sprint phone

You will not be able to use a SIM to activate a Sprint Phone. The Sprint phones are CDMA devices and would have to be activated through Sprint. Your best bet if you would not want to use Sprint as a carrier, and do not have any intention to use the device as a phone to return it for a refund. You would have to have a Sprint contract to activate this phone.

  • What happens when I remove my sim card? Can I put my sim back in and it will remain the same or is my data deleted?

If I was to remove my sim from my iPhone 6 and put it into another phone to use for the night, what happens to my data on my iPhone 6?
Will everything remain the same (e.g. photos, messages) when I put my sim card back in my iPhone?

Nothing will happen if you remove your sim card from your iPhone 6.  The only thing that will happen is that you will not be able to use it as a phone - you will have no service.
Nothing is stored on a sim card of an iPhone - iPhones cannot store data on a sim card - everything is stored on the phone itself, with syncing via iTunes.
You can take the sim card out and nothing will happen to your data - it is all stored on the phone.

Typically this indicates a device that has been hacked to be unlocked or jailbroken.
If that is the case, no support can be provided here.

  • HT4993 i took my sim card out now it wont turn on what can i do i didnt get the apple care

i took my sim card out my sprint iphone 5 now it wont turn back on

You iPhone 5 has a full 1 year Warranty with Apple, whether you have AppleCare or not. To turn iPhone ON, connect to Wall Charger for 10 minutes, iPhone may turn ON itself. If still OFF, keep on charger and Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to start. This can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons while on charger. If still problem, make Genius reservation or set up Service and take or send to Apple for resolution under Warranty.

  • What can happen if i drop my ipod touch?

    hi
i drop my ipod touch from a table of 80 or 90 centimeters aprox., the ipod fall in the touch scrren and i wanna know what can happen with the screen or the ipod?

It can break, of course. Or nothing may happen. It all depends on how it happens to fall and what it falls on.
Did you indeed drop your iPod? If so, is there any visible damage or are you experiencing any problems?
    Regards.

If it shows up in FindMyiPhone when you log into iCloud, it is still linked to your account and they have not turned off FindMyiPhone.
Not that they CANNOT turn off Find my iPhone without knowing your Apple ID password. And they cannot restore the phone as New without knowing your Apple ID and its password. So the phone is useless to the thief, unless it did not have a passcode lock on the screen. And even then if they try to use it without restoring it (to avoid being locked out permanently) you will see it in iCloud.com/find.
So you at least have the satisfaction that the thief will get no benefit from the phone, unless they sell it to an unsuspecting dupe.

What is the reason for Apple to skip this function? In fact, I feel pretty uncomfortable with this decision, it hinders me from using the iPad in a useful way. What is the reason to allow tethering on an iPhone and not on an iPad?
We are all just your fellow users. No one here is going to be able to answer those questions for you. Bottom line is, for whatever reaons, you cannot use your iPad as a mobile hotspot. If that's the reason why you bought it, you need to either return it or sell it.
Submit your feedback to Apple here:

Many people find that it's still a useful device even without that feature.

  • Can i just take out my SIM card to erase my passcode?

i Have forgotten my passcode and I haven't synced my phone to a computer, so can I just take out my SIM card to erase it all and start from scratch?

Nope.  You will need to restore the device from a computer.  whether you've synced to one in the past or not is irrelevant.
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings - Apple Support
Removing the sim card will simply stop the iPhone from getting cell service. nothing more.
