What can I do if "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"

I just tried to restore my iPod touch 4G using my OS X 10.5.8 MacNook Pro and I get the error "This device isn’t eligible for the requested build"
What's going on here? I did restores previously and they worked. Why would this stop working?

  • Iphone stuck in recovery mode and can't recover because "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"

I have an iPhone 4S and it has been stuck in recovery mode for whatever reason. I have tried using data recovery software that can turn my phone to normal mode but when it tries all my phone does in turn off and then on again, back into recovery mode. I can't use iTunes to recover my phone because it won't let me do it without updating and recovering the iPhone. When I do this it gives me the error "This device isn't eligible for the requested build"
Is there any other way I can restore my phone from backup without getting this error?

  • HT201210 This device isn't eligible for the requested build??

Please can someone help, just had a new iPad 1 as the battery went in my old one. Plugged it in and it will not let me restore or update, just says 'This iPad could not be restored. This device is not eligible for the requested build'
    What can I do?

This device is not eligible for the requested build: Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194." If you receive this alert, update to the latest version of iTunes. Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, follow Troubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to perform unauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. First you must uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer, then edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from the hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect.  For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart. Also, using an older or modified .ipsw file can cause this issue. Try moving the current .ipsw file, or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

i'm trying to update to 4.3.4 but its giving me "iphone could not be updated this device isn't eligible for the requested build" . . . i dont know what going on . . anyone ?

    SOLUTION FOR ALL.
This works. Thanks. The best way to do this is through the terminal. Just do the following commands in terminal:
    Type sudo su
    Press enter
Then enter your password and hit enter
    Type vi /etc/hosts
Move your cursor with the down arrow to the line that has gs.apple.com without a # at the beginning of the line.
Move cursor to the beginning of that line.
Type i# then press the esc key.
    Type :wq
    Press enter
    Type exit
    Press enter
Now you can quit out of the terminal application. This likely is a problem caused by Tiny Umbrella denying itunes communicating with the apple servers.

  • This device isn't eligible for the requested build. - wait, what...?!

I just recently replaced my iPhone 3GS with a new iPhone 3GS after I had the first one stolen. But I haven't been able to update the software, and I have had it for about two months now. Whenever I try I get the following error "This device isn't eligible for the requested build". So I contacted my carrier thinking something was wrong with the phone they sent me, and was told to uninstall and then reinstall my iTunes, and that might work. So I tried. No success, since I have a MacBook (from 2010) it comes with iTunes which can't just be uninstalled. I did however update my OS to Lion, and have also udated iTunes to the newest version available. I don't see there is much else I can do, but I still get the same error message whenever I try to update my iPhone. I should also say that everytime I plug in my phone to sync with iTunes, the new update available window pops up, so there should be an update available for my iPhone.
Thanks for any help you could provide me with.

  • "this device isn't eligible for the requested build."

I've just changed carrier and got a new sim card. My iphone 3gs will not work with my new sim because it is locked to my old carrier. I called my old carrier and they removed the lock from the phone and said all i had to do now was restore the phone and i'm good to go. I know the sim is not faulty because it works fine in my old iphone 3 which i am stuck using at the moment.
When i try to restore my 3gs i get the error message: "...this device isn't eligible for the requested build."
I've never had a problem before restoring an iphone, what gives? how do i fix this?
    thanks!!

Can you get a Wi-Fi connection on your iPhone?
I got an Internet connection on my phone, went to SETTINGS --> GENERAL --> SOFTWARE UPDATE and updated my Software wirelessly (no iTunes involved).
When I connected my phone to my Computer again and iTunes popped up, it showed that my iPhone software was up to date. Then I could restore to an old back-up.

  • "This device isn't eligible for the requested build" Trying to restore to 4.4.1

    Hello,
I adquired yesterday the appleTv 2g. It comes with the 4.2.1 (2100) firmware. I would like o update it to the ios 5. But I press "restore" button on itunes, it downloaded the 4.4.1 and it keep saying: "This device isn't eligible for the requested build".
I don't know what's happening. Can anybody help me?
    Thank you very much.

The software versions are signed by Apple.
If they are superceded or revoked the digital signature can be unobtainable.
Many have posted issues with 4.4 and 4.4.1 and at least one site suggests these firmwares have been revoked pending bug fixes.
I have not tried to update yet - when issues are posted I prefer to stick with what I've got.
You may be able to update to 4.3 via itunes, the last 'good' version.

In case that link stops working, what I did was I exited iTunes, and then manually edited my hosts. The process is this:
Go to the hosts file. For Mac OS X this is located at: /etc/hosts or /private/etc/hosts and in Windows it is located at: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
Open the hosts file with Administrative privileges so that changes can be made and saved (eg: sudo nano /etc/hosts)
Look for a line that resembles something like this:
    74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Put a # in front of that to comment it out, making it now look like this:
    # 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
Save the hosts file (control + O)
Flush DNS cache and restart iTunes
Essentially, anything with a gs.apple.com address, put a # and a space in front of it. Then, AFTER that, I flushed my DNS cache. The article says to do that before, but I found doing it after manually editing the hosts was the only way to get it to work. Here's how:
Quit out of iTunes and open the Terminal in OS X Lion, then type:
    dscacheutil -flushcache
Then you should be good to go. Hope this takes you less time to fix than it did for me. Cheers!
