What can I do to get Mail to connect to my 2 mail servers?
Like many others, I set up Apple Mail with my email connection details at gmail, and it worked fine, it downloaded 1200 emails and worked. Then I wanted to change from pop3 to IMAP to get more interaction with the Gmail server through Mail. So then Mail couldn't connect anymore and when I played around it dumped all those emails and since then it does not want to connect to gmail.
I have tried re-entering the account details through System Settings
Opening Keychain and deleting all Gmail account details and starting again
Opening terminal and using this: telnet imap.gmail.com 993. It spits out the details to say that gmail is there but it can't connect
Doing everything again.
Doing nothing for 2 months and trying again.
So this is the "known bug" that Apple may fix in a couple of years. great.
By the way, I use another app called Airmail to access my mail on this machine, but would probably prefer to use Mail to integrate with Callender and Contacts. Airmail is a very nice app to use. I am philosophical about whether this will ever be fixed. So far it is the only BADDDD thing about Apple, since changing over early this year, so I actually I really like "A".

I know there are other details about ports somewhere but have forgotten how to access, or maybe I can't because it can;t connect.

I was struggling with this since my latest Itunes update. Fiirst it would not recognize my IPad as a device, after correcting that, it would list the Ipad in my device but my Sync had no options (summry, info, etc). and it kept saying it was "Accessing Itunes store". reading your question I suddently tried deleting the itunes task (alt-ctrl, delete, processes) and delete Itunes. (By the way, I had rebooted my computer several times over the last few days). I opened up Itunes, and voila. Device is there. No "accessing windows" and my sync has the normal options.

Try closing the Mail app via the taskbar and see if the email text shows when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it they try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot. -
When I did my itunes match, there were some duplicated albums and songs in my library. I have gone back into my library from my computer, and deleted the duplicates. When I did so, itunes did not ask me if I wanted to delete them from the cloud. They are still showing up on my iphone as duplicates in the cloud. They are not on the iphone in the first place. It is just a setting that allows you to see the songs that are available in icloud, but not on your iphone. If you turn the setting to off, then you no longer see the songs that are in icloud, but NOT on your iphone.

I have a macbook pro 5,3 white I am trying to hook up to a samsung hdtv. I have used a mini dv to hdmi adapter but I get no sound on my tv. What can I do to get sound?
The Mini DisplayPort-to-HDMI adaptor will only pass video in most cases. You will need to run a separate audio cable along with it. Likely a 3.5mm (male-to-male) cable. Or a 3.5mm (male) to red/white RCA (male) cable. Just depends on what audio input ports your TV has dedicated to the HDMI input.

Your contacts are helpd on the server, so if you sign out from your iCloud account and sign into another one they will disappear. If you sign back into the original account they will reappear.

My MacBook Pro is running very hot after lion install. Are there any hardware changes that will help? What can I do to get it back to normal?
I get the impression that most of the users on older hardware experiences similar temperature issues on Lion for a long time now. Awaiting for confirmation from the original poster.
In the meantime I'm just cautious with regards to pushing the machine to such extreme temps, since something tells me such behaviour which includes monitor flickering and the likes is nothing but abnormal for any type of use...

All apps are tied forever to the Apple ID used to obtain them, that is also true with In-App purchases.

Using a computer without a back up is, frankly, like driving without a seat belt. You'll be fine - unless there's a problem. If there is a problem then you'll be rather worse off than if you were wearing one.
Updating software - any software, apps, OS, plug-ins, anything - without a back up is like driving drunk and blindfolded without a seatbelt... The same warning applies but you're much more likely to have an issue at upgrading and installing time than other times.
Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store -

I don't know how large the SSD (solid state hard drive) is, or how big your iPhone 5 is, but with some iPhones having 64GB and some Airs having as little as 64GB and some having as much as 512GB it's not hard to see how storing the contents of your iPhone 5 on your Macbook Air could run you out of space.
Go to the Macbook Air and bring up a finder window and pull the Go menu down and go to the Computer. Right click on the Macintosh HD and select get info. See if there is any available space on the MacBook Air. If not you are out of SSD space (you're storing more on your Macbook Air than it has storage for). I'm not sure if iTunes can store its library on an external hard drive or quite how you would make that happen. But even if you managed that, when the hard drive was disconnected, you would lose access to your library. Using a smart media card might be possible (I don't know) but it would probably be irritatingly slow. If you have a small Air and a big iPhone you might just have to find a different computer to sync to. Just remember a 64GB iPhone is a big chunk of SSD for a Macbook Air. I did it with my previous and my current Air but even my previous one had 256GB and I really just fit. -
I tried updating my itune program. Now all I get is the following message "Itunes was not installed properly. Please reinstall itunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126). WHAT can I do to get back to where my itunes program is running again?
I have uninstalled the proram and tried reinstalling and get the same error message. The other error message I get is "The program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem". I have tried that twice with no luck. Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

I can load CS3, but it won't let me register it and I can load CS5 upgrade, but when I open CS5 it shows fault and closes. What can I do to get these programs to work on my new computer?
Registration has always been optional, so there is no point in trying. Those pages on the Adobe site are long gone. CS5 crashing is another matter, but without some crash logs and more detailed system information nobody can realyl know. This could be a mundane permissions issue on some files, could be a crash with the hardware acceleration stuff but just the same could be the activation system failing. Impossible to tell based on your limited information.
