fmartn67You installed the "Genieo/InstallMac" rootkit. The product is a fraud, and the developer knowingly distributes an uninstaller that doesn't work. I suggest the tedious procedure below to disable Genieo. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the rootkit (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data. You must know how to restore from a backup even if the system becomes unbootable. If you don't know how to do that, or if you don't have any backups, stop here and ask for guidance.
Step 1
In the Applications folder, there may (or may not) be an application named "Genieo". Genieo may be partially installed even if this item is absent. If it's present, select it and open the Finder Info window. If it shows that the Version is less than 2.0, download and install the current version from the genieo.com website. This may seem paradoxical, since the goal is to remove it, but you'll be saving yourself some trouble as well as the risk of putting the system in an unusable state.
There should be another application in the same folder named "Uninstall Genieo". After updating Genieo, if necessary, launch "Uninstall Genieo" and follow the prompts to remove the "newspaper-style home page." Restart the computer.
This step does not completely inactivate Genieo.
Step 2
Don't take this step unless you completed Step 1, including the restart, without any error messages. If you didn't find the Genieo application, or if you couldn't complete Step 1 for any reason, stop here and ask for instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
/Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder should open with an item named "GenieoExtra.framework" selected. Move that item to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password. Move each of these items to the Trash in the same way:

If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those listed above, move them as well. There's no need to restart after each one. Some of these items will be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
Step 3
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including ones called "Genieo" or "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Spigot" or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Your web browser(s) should now be working, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install this software. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad has a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Genieo developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the perpetrator of the scam sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." He will tell you to run the provided uninstaller, while lying about what it does. As he knows and intends, the uninstaller does not completely remove the malware. -
When I did my itunes match, there were some duplicated albums and songs in my library. I have gone back into my library from my computer, and deleted the duplicates. When I did so, itunes did not ask me if I wanted to delete them from the cloud. They are still showing up on my iphone as duplicates in the cloud. What can I do to get them from showing up in my iphone?
They are not on the iphone in the first place. It is just a setting that allows you to see the songs that are available in icloud, but not on your iphone. If you turn the setting to off, then you no longer see the songs that are in icloud, but NOT on your iphone.

try going into settings, safari and clear history. You may also want to clear cookies (means you will need to sign back into sites)
It's possible that that page is a popup ad of some sort that can't run, for example a flash based ad. You may have picked the cookie up browsing the internet and now that it's in there the only way to get rid of it is to clear your history and cookies. -
I am trying to install software updates but every time after the warning I should restart my computer, while software update is processing, I am getting the same thing; An unexpected error happened, none of your updates are installed. I have a message on my Ipad that states my IOS has crashed due to a 3rd party. It refers to my tablet as a phone (sorry, don't have an Iphone. It gives a number to call for support but I know it's a scam. Is there a solution to get rid of it as it has locked up my Safari.

Restore your iPhone. Plug it into iTunes (current version: 11.0.1). Let it sync and then click "restore" on the right.
You can try restore from backup, which may or may not work. If it does not work, restore as new, and then manually sync.
When done, "Other" should be close to 1GB. -
How can I get rid of a search engine that doesn't show up in my list of search engines?
I installed a toolbar from Inboxdollars and since then every time I search for something it uses as my search engine something associated wit yahoo called serp.freecause.com and then I get the "problem loading page" message because it can't find the server at that address. I've uninstalled the toolbar and even took yahoo off my list of search engines. But nothing gets rid of it. Any suggestions?
I ran a complete scan with Norton Antivirus. Cleaned the Registry, history, temporary files and did a Virus Scan. It actually worked. I did not install anything to get this, but used an unprotected Wireless network and I think that/s how I picked it up.

How to get rid off yahoo search?
when i search something from google search (in a webpage) it goes to the yahoo search website and show the results!
1.) there is no extension on add-ons, anything to do with search or yahoo
2.) i have tried reset the keyword.url from configuration

I have no idea how it came. Maybe something to do with vlc codec pack? "Myfreecodec" that i tried to use when trying to play some mp4-file... i think i haven't installed anything else lately... And i always uncheck the "add this one on your browser..."Where in my control panel can I find this and uninstall it? I do not see it in programs. Thanks. I have Start my search start as soon as I open Firefox. I ran malwarebytes to get rid of unwanted programs, and this cleared this particularly annoying bar from starting in all browsers except Firefox (the browser I use most!). I reset MSN as my homepage, and set my homepage to open when I start Firefox. Guess what? When I open Firefox, Start my search opens! MSN is still my home page, but despite followong all the instructions from Start my search I CANNOT get rid of it. Can anyone help please!

How do I get rid of a search engine that has taken over home page?
Search.US.com has taken over my hone page and everything else it can. I have tried all the suggestions available to me by the help section. I have went so far as to delete cookies. This is very invasive. I looked at restoring the system but have few options for recovery points and they don't include the search engine download. I removed the add on it came with as well. I had removed the search engine in add/remove programs and was stupid when it asked if I wanted the default settings restored. I said no. I'm afraid I am j pretty stupid when it comes to software. I hope someone can help me. Thank you for your time in this matter. ps I put what I thought was relevant in the bottom box. I had not seen this before. I tried to modify it but couldn't.
SoultenderI finally got a hold of someone at that search us.com. They gave me this link to try and solve the problem. I have already reinstalled firefox but it might help someone else out. And it's much simpler. I haven't tried it but they said to get a hold of them if it didn't work. the link is:

How do I get rid of ZoneAlarm search engine in the address bar and middle-of-page search box?
I downloaded ZoneAlarm firewall. It has you install Chrome and choose its search engine when you download. I'd heard these were easily removed afterward. I reset Google in the upper right search bar.
Now Firefox starts OK, but each time I use a tab to open another window the ZoneAlarm search is in the address bar and the center search box, and Google search is in the upper right search bar. How can I get rid of all ZoneAlarm search everywhere?
I have the latest version of Firefox and Windows 8.1.You can check if you have the ZoneAlarm search engine file in the browser\searchplugins folder in the Firefox program or in the searchplugins folder in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

You can delete the search.json file and possible search-metadata.json and search.sqlite files in the Firefox profile folder to reset the search engines to the default.
