What can I do to my MacBookPro to stop running slowly?

My MacBookPro runs slowly. I found out that kernel_task takes a lot of memory space. What can I do to make it run faster?
I used etrecheck to scan and came up with the below scan result;
Problem description:
My MacBookPro is running slowly and on checking the activity monitor, I found that the kernel_task is taking most of the memory.

Your Virtual Memory page-outs indicate your RAM is not stressed under the conditions during which the test ran.
Your greater issue is the Trusteer software. Banks recommend it knowing nothing of Macs and that Macs do not run properly with Trusteer. Uninstall instructions here:

  • What can I do if my ipod just stopped working?

what can I do if my ipod just stopped working? I just purchased it on Aug 23, 2013. I was jogging with it then it just shut down and have not been able to turn it back on.

It could be, since Apple is not liable for user negligence. However, there is no way to definitevely say yes or no on these forums. Apple will run a diagnostic on the device and draw their own conclusions. I would advise not telling them that part though. Best of luck.

  • HT201263 What can I do when my phone just stopped working?

My iPhone decided mid-message to turn off (even though on 100%) and came back on to the Apple start-up screen.
It continues to light up, then fade out, then light up again etc. I cannot get on my phone, so I cannot restore it. What can I do?

Plug it in to power.  If it doesn't automatically come on within 15 minutes, try a Reset... press the home and sleep/lock buttons until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the slider. Takes about 5-15 secs of button holding and you won't lose any data or settings.
If this doesn't work, you likely have a hardware issue.

  • I need to update to Maverick. I'm currently running OS 10.7.5 and every time I try to find a compatible update to even update to Mountain Lion, I can't find it. My computer is running slowly and I can't use iPhoto.

Okay, so I can't upgrade to Maverick because it's incompatible, nor do I happen to have thousands of dollars to dish out for a new Mac. I can't even find the next upgrade. Every time I click "Software Update" it finds nothing related to this. And it's also really important for me to be able to use iPhoto which lately just gives me the rainbow wheel of death even though I've tried several fixes.

There are no software updates for Lion (10.7) past 10.7.5.
If your machine supports Mountain Lion (10.8) you can buy it at the Apple Store. They'll send you a redemption code via email and you can use it at the App Store to download Mountain Lion.
    http://www.todaysiphone.com/2013/10/online-apple-store-offering-redemption-codes -os-x-lion-mountain-lion/
iPhoto is not part of the OS and each of those apps can be purchased via the App Store.

My 2 notebooks running XP will no longer detect the BEFW11S4 WAP, what can I do?
The connections just stopped yesterday. Both laptops work OK when connected by ethernet cables and my main PC running XP64 connected also by ethernet is not affected.
Both laptops can see my neighbour's wireless network and worked OK with my son-in-laws network last night when I took them over to his house.
Can I assume that the "wireless component has died?
Any recommendations for a direct updated replacement?
I'm currently connected to NTL broadband but may at sometime switch to Sky broadband in the future but I understand that I would not be able to do this with my NTL phone line.

    Thanks for the comments Charrie21,
    SSID Broadcast is enabled,
Of the 3 leds on the front left:
    WLAN ACT is not illuminated
WLAN Link is illuminated [According to the instruction because it is connected to a cable modem],
    POWER is illuminated.
Of the 3 leds on the front right:
    LINK is illuminated,
    ACT is not illuminated,
    Diag in not illuminated.
The router has been reset  several times.
SSID has been changed several times
Channel number has been changed several times
WAP was previously 64BIt and has been changed to 128Bit
Firmware version is the same date as currently on the Linksys web sute for this model.
I am thinking the "wireless" component is dead.

  • What can I do? Every "iPhoto Library Upgrader" I've downloaded fails to prepare the my iPhoto Library, so I can't open iPhoto any more.

What can I do? Every time I download & run "iPhoto Library Upgrader" it fails to "prepare" the my iPhoto Library, so I can't open iPhoto any more.
(My MacOS & iPhoto are the latest versions.)
Ever since my last upgrades, every time I try to open iPhoto, a Alert box pops up saying, "To open your library with this version of iPhoto, it first needs to be prepared. To prepare the library, use the iPhoto Library Upgrader", and it gives 2 options: a "Learn More" button or "Quit" (iPhoto) button. The "Learn More" button links to Apple's "iPhoto '11: About the Library Upgrader" page (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5037), but whenever I then download and run that page's linked app, the same thing happens all over again.
It does no good to rebuild the iPhoto Library (holding down the command & option keys while reopening iPhoto): the same thing happens.
It does no good to use iPhoto Library Manager (http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/) to rebuild the iPhoto Library, as was suggested elsewhere: the same thing happens.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD

  • Oxidized Mac Pro Hdd bays what can I do ?

Hello everyone I have a mid 2010 Mac Pro and before 3months I found some black fingerprints on my. Hdd slots I think it's oxidized. Somehow but always I keep my hands clean and dry when opening the case what can I do to clean it and stop oxidizing

A Mac Pro case is a predominantly aluminum alloy and appears to be anodized to prevent oxidation. If oxidation were to occur, it would be white. Any harsh chemicals used on the anodized surfaces will probably damage the anodizing and result in real oxidation. Like Grant says, it's pointless to mess with them. If you do you could try spraying the surface with clear spray paint for protectation.

  • Since downloading Mountain Lion, my computer buffers a lot. What can I do about this?

What can I do to  make my computer stop buffering all the time.  It started doing that after I downloaded Mountain Lion

When I click on an email, or application, etc.  sometimes the spinning rainbow will spin and spin and spin and then finally open my application or whatever.

I installed new hard drive and I am trying to restore from time machine external back up. I restarted the computer and held the Command key and the R and the restore utility does not appear. what can I do

Command + R keys are for Macbooks running Lion and Mountian Lion only. ( i could be wrong on this)
you have a couple of options:
Do a clean install of Snow Leopard via Install DVD.
Clone your old hard drive to your new hard drive via Carbon Copy Cloner
Or click on the link below to give you a better idea.
Hope you get it sorted out.

  • My ipod touch 5 is charging from 12%  to 56%  on 1minute and then when its 56  it turns to 26 after 2 minutes what can i do please help me.

help my my battery life is really bad on my ipod touch 5 with ios 7.0.4
my ipod touch 5 is charging from 12%  to 56%  on 1minute and then when its 56  it turns to 26 after 2 minutes what can i do?, please help me.

    Stop unplugging it.
At best, the percentage indicator is approximate and regardless of what your percentage indicator states, the battery will not go from 12% to 56% in one minute - and be able to run the iPod without dropping as much as yours does.
The behaviour that you cite is nothing unusual. If your battery is at only 12% when you plug it in, it will still take two or three hours (thereabouts) to be fully charged. In the meantime, the percentage indicator cannot be relied upon.
Charging a battery takes something like four hours from flat. So plug your iPod in and leave it alone for a few hours. The iPod Touch user guide for iOS 7 states that there is a battery icon in the top-right corner, which shows the battery level or charging status. It appears to be slightly different from earlier versions, but this is is what the guide shows:
I assume therefore, that when the iPod is fully charged, the lightning symbol disappears, leaving only the full battery.
If your iPod shows this lightning symbol when you put it on charge (not your % indicator, but Apple's icon), leave it on charge; check it every hour (maximum of four hours) to see if the lightning flash has disappeared. When it does, then - and only then - is it fully charged. At this time, when you unplug it, your percenatge indicator should show a much better level of charge.
Spend time enjoying your iPod instead of fretting about why a part-charged battery doesn't last as long as you think it should.

  • IMac AppleCare is almost up, what can I do?

    I have a 2011 21.5in iMac which it's applecare is ending in May 2014.
In April, what can I say to get the AppleStore to run an over night test?
I need this computer to last me a couple more years but I have no idea what I can do about having them run one last test to make sure everything's alright.
Also, on that note, once in a while my iMac screen will "flicker." Where the backlight or something turns off and turns back on in a split second. Should I be worried about this?

You may try & call Apple Sales Support:
    1-800-676-2775
Or see details in this Support/Service link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/contact/
In the built-in system, can you get the
Diagnostic section to run? I'm not certain
if that requires a restart with Opt D held,
since none of my Macs have a newer OS.
If you call ahead and talk to someone at
a nearby Apple Store, perhaps a product
specialist, & ask what they can do in-store.
They could do more once they see it.
At a distance, you can start the process.
And all we can do in an ASC discussion
    is suggest ideas, as advice or opinion;
not as anyone who is directly connected
to Apple and have no authority there.
Hopefully they can get it figured out.
    Good luck & happy computing!
