What can I do when I try to access a URL and get the message "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:"?
I recently tried to download a pdf file from a website in the UK. Up popped a message saying the website could not be accessed, followed by this message: "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:". I was able to access the website easily (its domain was "www") and the page listing the pdfs, but could not download a pdf. Of course," c:" appears not to be a valid domain name, but why would anyone use "c:" in place of a domain name in their URL? And what can I do about the problem? I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10, but also have Firefox and Chrome loaded. Thanks.
An address starting with c: wouldn't be any kind of domain name. C: is the drive lettering system DOS and and later uses. By default, A: and B: are reserved for your first and second floppy disk drive. All hard drives are then named C: through Z:, if you have that many. C: is normally your startup disk.
Anyway, their PDF file is incorrectly linked to a file directly on the C: drive of someone's computer. It's not going to work no matter what you do.

Today I have been receiving intermittent error messages while running Safari v5.0.6 on my iMac running Mac OS X v 10.5.8 that Safari cannot open internet sites starting with https: or http: because OS X does not recognize https: or http:. It seems to be happening when I try to click on links within pages directing me to other info (on secure web pages).
Clearly there is something very weird going on, as obviously this site is one that starts with https: and I am here posting to the community. Has anyone else seen this?
What is this all about? It worked fine yesterday - I have made no changes to anything. Safari has been running like a slug the past few weeks. I have Apple auto update set to check for updates daily - so I truly have no idea were this is coming from. Any guidance would be apprecited! Thx -Hello - anyone have any comments for me on this? Thx -

I want to upgrade Snow Leopard (10.6.8) to Yosemite. The download page on Apple website shows that my system meets all requirements;
however, when I click to download I get the following error message. The browser freezes and closing Safari is the only way I can get out of it:
safari cant open "macappstores://itunes.apple.com/webobjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=9150 41082&mt=12&ls=1&ign-msr=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.apple.com%2Fosx%2F" because Mac OS X doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "macappstores"
iMac, purchased new in 2009
Model Identifier: iMac9,1
OS 10.6.8
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2.66 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 6 MB
Memory: 2 GB
Hard drive 320 GB (plenty of unused memory)
Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Boot ROM Version: IM91.008D.B08
Please help! What is wrong? You are probably going to want to upgrade your memory (RAM). While 2 GB is the stated minimum, realistically 4 GB seems to be the consensus minimum. More is better.
The 2 places I’ve seen recommended most to buy reliable RAM are below. I have purchased RAM several times from Other World Computing and have always been very satisfied with the product and service. They have on-line instructions on how to replace the RAM. OWC has also tested RAM above what Apple states is the maximum. I now have 6GB installed on a machine supposedly limited to 4 GB.

My daughter and granddaughter have the same model iPhone. I can go messages and text my granddaughters phone from my ipad2, but when I try to text my daughter I get the message that she is not registered with I message, but she is registered and gets texts all the time. What do we need to do?

The blue bubble will not turn on on the iPad when I try to message her on her I phone. She has IMessage turned on.
What blue bubble are you trying to turn on? If you mean that the Send button will not work, go to Settings>Messages>Show Subject Field>Off. Make sure that is set to off.
If you send an iMessage, the texts between the devices appear in a blue bubble.
iMessages only work between iOS devices and they are different than the standard text messages that any cell phone can send to another cell phone. -

My wifi works fine and I can access the store fine, but when I try to install an app, I get the message "cannot connect to iTunes store"
I am guessing there is an issue with the store right now considering so many people are having the same problem on different platforms. I can't access it with my iPod Touch 4th Gen, yet my wifi is working and I can access the internet using other apps, but when I go to update a couple of apps from the iPod, I get the same error message after I try to sign in to the store.

When I try to restore my iPod, I get the message that the ipod software update server could not be contacted. What do I do now??
Update Server
Try:
- Powering off and then back on your router.
- iTunes for Windows: iTunes cannot contact the iPhone, iPad, or iPod software update server
- Change the DNS to either Google's or Open DNS servers
Public DNS — Google Developers
OpenDNS IP Addresses
- Try on another computer/network
- Wait if it is an Apple problem -
When I try to sync my iPhone, I get the message: The iPhone cannot be synced. You do not have enough access priveleges for this operation.
The iPhone won't sync anymore. How can I fix this? This works even for my ipod on my computer. I recently time machined myself and when i open intunes it always does all that backgroud magic and pops up saying "....You do not have enough access priveleges for this operation."
It turns out i don't need that, because i do not use sync. I do not sync. I don't use the sync. I abstain from getting my sync on...etc.
The first solution posted above works, i'll repeat it but credit goes to King_Penguin a true friend from the motherland! Just find this one file and delete it.
YOU LAZY APPLE DEVEOPERS NEED TO FIX THIS ISSUE!
"I've found this which may (or may not) help : http://www.itjungles.com/iphone-tips/fixed-iphone-sync-error-you-do-not-have-eno ugh-access-privileges-for-this-operation . There's also this thread where the person had the same problem (though on Mac not Windows) http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=997075"
I'll save you the legwork, heres what you'll find at that first link, and it works. Win the game!

To fix this error just delete the folder." -
When I try to save a PDF, I get the message "The document could not be saved. There was a problem reading this document (14)."
I receive no other information that helps me debug what the problem is. The PDF is filled with editing comments.MobileMe was terminated on that date and you cannot access your iDisk using the Finder. You should sign out in System Preferences>MobileMe to prevent error messages - it's best to turn of any iDisk or other syncing first.
There is currently a 'limited' grace period during which you can download files from your iDisk and Gallery, and migrate to iCloud if you haven't already done so. Go to http://me.com and follow the links there. We do not know how long this facility will continue to be available. -
When I try to restore my bookmarks I get the message "Unable to process the backup file."

Some added toolbar and anti-virus add-ons are known to cause
Firefox issues. '''Disable All of them.'''
After the above. Restart Firefox. Then try again.
If you still can't restore one of the files, try another one.
These can't get your data back, but will help in the future.
These add-ons can be a great help by backing up and restoring Firefox
'''[https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/febe/ FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension)]''' {web link}
FEBE allows you to quickly and easily backup your
Firefox extensions, history, passwords, and more.
In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild
your saved files individually into installable .xpi files.
It will also make backup of files that you choose.
