What can I _really_ do with Flash.ocx in a Windows program

I've used Flash.ocx as an ActiveX control embedded in a
Delphi program
before. Works ok.
What I'm wanting to learn about is how far I can push this
thing? What
can I really do with it?
Can I load a SWF as a LoadMovie and then do more with it/to
it? Can I
load two or three SWF files and make them play one after the
other? Can
I edit SWFs somehow (I'd love to be able to load a SWF and
"mute" it,
for example)?
Any good websites or references for the possibilities, other
than
"embed it and assign a file to the Movie property"?

What can I actually to with database connections?

This may sound like an odd question, but once I define a MySQL connection in Dreamweaver, what can I actually do with it? Let me clarify what I'm doing:
I've only just found out that we can define MySQL connections when a PHP/MySQL site is defined. I'm used to administering my databases via MySequel or phpMyAdmin. Accessing databases in Dreamweaver would rock!
So now I've got a connection, I can read all my tables... but I can't seem to do anything with them. I can't add data, I can't modify data - all I can do is look at what's already there. I can click the "insert code" or the "view data" option, but they don't seem to do anything useful: The first option only pastes whatever is highlighted in my code, and the second brings up a window displaying the data.
What am I missing? Can I change the data somehow and just haven't found the option yet? Or what else can I use my database for?
For example, exporting or importing data, synchronising with another database/database host, etc?

Database connections are used to develop data driven web sites. So if you are familiar with server side scripting you can write code to make your site dynamic. In the past, DW had server behaviors that streamlined the process of creating web forms and display areas to insert, update and select from database tables, but these have been removed as the code was never quite up to current standards.

How to make Siri say "What can I help you with"

I just got the iPhone 5 (my very first iPhone as well), I hold the home button to activate Siri but she won't say anything and it only shows the text of "What can I help you with?" at the bottom. How can I make her talk? I know that I have it activated for speech because after that when I say a command she'll respond when it stops loading. Also, I added my name as a contact but I haven't had her address me once by it. Does anyone know how to fix these two things? Thank you!

After Installing Flash Player 9, i can't open anything with Flash

After ungrading to Adobe Flash Player 9, i can't open
anything with flash on any of my browsers (Safari, IE)
and it just keeps on running in circles...like it tells me to
go to the download page and then i would download it and install
the software, but after installation, it directs me to the
macromedia pages and it says:

Are you using any MS Office third party Add-ins? Test: Remove third party Add-ins other than PDFMaker. Test to see if the MS Office apps run afterward.
Did you attempt to repair MS Office? Test: Go to Add/Remove Control Panel run Repair.
Finally, have you tried testing to see if it's PDFMaker? Test: Use the Add/Remove Control Panel to modify the Acrobat installation to remove PDFMaker. See if MS Office applications launch and behave correctly?

I think Google Chrome is more easy to troubleshoot. Try this:
1. Open Chrome.
2. Click the far-right Icon (Customize and control Google Chrome).
3. Select about Google Chrome. It check if Google Chrome is up to date and if not it'll get update.
4. You must wait until a GREEN check mark appear saying your Google Chrome is up to date.
5. Remember, you don't need to get Adobe Flash Player separately because Google Chrome has it own integrated Player.
6. Accept Google Chrome constant upgrade to their Chrome browser.

I just received m iphone 5.
Siri initially greeted me with the message "What can I help you with" verbally. That has suddenly stopped. Siri works fine for all other requests. It seems odd that it just stopped.
I've done a reset and restore backup and that did not change anything. I have not done a full system restore yet.
Any suggestions?

Thanks, I'm betting that's it. I tried it fresh out of the box, then activated the phone, updated the OS and reinstalled my data.

Youre right Satellite L500 doesnt have an internal modem so you need an external one.
I think you can buy every modem that is at least compatible with Vista. Alternative ask your authorized service provider or favorite computer dealer

I am talking about iPhoto. In my old Mac even in Books choosing slideshow gives a pop up where you can select a music from I tunes library. In this new one I can stop the slideshow with cursor and it shows music option but it is, as I said dead. Does not response at all to commands.

VB6 - can't save a project with flash.ocx control - why won't Adobe fix?

After a full day of research, this seems to be an ongling problem for at least a year now.   VB6 developers who have gone in to do maintenance on their applications that call flash.ocx are finding that they can no longer save their projects because of some change that was introduced by Adobe in the release following flash10e.ocx. In another post here http://forums.adobe.com/message/2931807#2931807 a work around is given of uninstalling flash and installing any version on or before 100452. Because the applications still run fine until the developer tries to make a change and save the VB6 project, the scope of this problem has probably not been fully realized. For this reason, this issue will likely only gain momentum in the future.
I spent the morning contacting several people at Adobe and I discovered the only way apparently to get support for this issue is to open a "web case".   From further research, what I understand a "web case" costs around $200 and with that price there is nothing telling me what comes with a "web case". I mean, if I were to buy one, would the problem be fixed or would they research it and say "I am very sorry but we are not going to fix that".   If there is a guarantee that the problem will be fixed, then can Adobe establish a pool where the $200 cost can be shared by everyone who has the issue?   That couldn't be more than a buck or two each because if you google this problem "System Error &H80004005 using flash.ocx" you will find about 5 pages of people reporting the problem.
Microsoft reports that a System Error &H80004005 error can normally be fixed by chaning the OCX in this manner:

Sounds like Adobe made a slight change to the flash.ocx in the release following 100452 that removed the couple of definitions descibed by Microsoft in the URL above. All of Microsoft's suggestions for the developer using the bad OCX call fail (simply adding a line to the OCX:
InitCommonControls(void)
, however, since the problem (and the answer) is locked deep inside the flash.ocx source code, only Adobe can resolve it. Let's hope someone reads this and takes action.   In advance - please and thank you Adobe.

There's little chance anyone from Adobe will see your posting here, though they do on occasion find their way here for reasons unknown. What you might try is to submit a bug report. Going that route at least puts it into a system that requires it to be processed... whether or not the processing will lead to a solution that helps you is indeterminable from this end.

Problems with flash.ocx embedded in a Delpi application

I've got a Delphi application that has the Flash OCX embedded
to play a
series of SWF files. What I'm noticing from some
experimentation is that
there is a slow but sure memory leak (about 16 KB at a time)
if I simply
assign the new filename to the Movie paramter (or use
LoadMovie(0,
filename) - I tried both).
Is there a mechanism to "unload" a movie?
Also - there are a couple of SWF files that reference
external JPEG and text
files to fill in sections of the screen. We're noticing that
if we run with
these, then we run out of system resources in a short time
and the program
grinds to a halt or crashes. Are there known issues with
doing this sort of
thing in Flash that I need to be aware of, and make our Flash
developers
aware of? Where's the best place to look for these sort of
"gotcha"
problems? For example, I turned on some extra logging in a
test program and
the crashing went away. Basically, I've put in some sort of
delay while I'm
writing information to my log files, and that seems to cause
some sort of
side-effect that lets the Flash keep running. That seems
weird, and I'd like
to find out if there are timing sensitive operations that a
Flash file
should be aware of.

Hi, I think the "other versions" indicate the Operating System, not the browser. After that you can choose your browser. Since you already used Chrome and had Flash Player already Installed, then I don't understand your purpose for going to the site. You would have gotten that message by using Chrome since you already have Flash Player.

What you can do or not do within the Steam website has nothing to do with Adobe Flash Player, or Adobe as far as I know.
I don't use Steam, but do know how most all Adobe Flash Player Installation sites work.
Since you use a Windows Operating System and Chrome, there would have been no need to even go to the Flash Player Install site. Perhaps someone gave you incorrect information.

Can I do this with Flash? (A TV Director interface)

I have an idea for a video based website but am not sure if it can be done with Flash so I thought I'd post here to see if anyone has ever seen it already or thinks it is possible with Flash.
Basically here's what I need. Let's say I film a sporting event with three cameras: cam 1 on a wide shot showing everything and cams 2 and 3 getting close-ups of the action. I'd like to playback all three video clips on one web page at the same time, with one of the cameras in a large box on the page and the other two cams in smaller boxes to the side or under the main box. The user would have the ability to instantly switch camera views in the large box by clicking on one of the smaller boxes. So if cam 1 is in the large box and cams 2 and 3 are also playing on the same page in smaller boxes, the user might see a close up on cam 2, click on it and then cam 2 will swap places with cam 1 and is now in the large box. (I hope all this makes sense!)
This idea is in effect giving the user the ability to be a "TV director" and select which camera angle they'd like to see in the large box, and changing camera views anytime they see something in a smaller box that looks interesting.
Just to clarify, all of the camera shots would be prerecorded and encoded as Flash video. So the challenge here is to sync all three video clips together and then create an interface/skin that plays them at the same time and allows instant switching between them on a web page.
What do you think... is this possible with Flash? has anyone seen something similar already done? How would it be accomplished?

The easiest method for you would be to use the following
components:
TextInput - this is an input text field
Button - would be the submit button
To put it together:
Make a new Actionscript 2 flash file. AS2 is much easier to
work with for a beginner, and is fairly easy for this purpose.
Drag your instance of the TextInput and Button to the stage,
and position them. Add some text for instructions.
Select the TextInput, go to the properties panel and give it
an instance name (the field under the drop-down) - something like
"myInput"
Do the same with the Button ("myBtn")
click on the first frame in the timeline, and go to the
Actions panel. You will know you are entering actions properly if
the panel says "Actions - Frame" in the tab. Enter the following
scripts:
myBtn.onRelease = function(){
//this is where you perform whatever actions you need.
trace(myInput.text);
Next, Control::Test Movie, enter some text in the input box,
and click the button. The text you entered into the input box will
trace out into the Output tab of Flash.
I do not know the script you need to get the text from the
flash out to the Presenter, but this will get you started.
