What can replace distiller 6.0

We are currently using Acrobat Distiller 6.0 to convert ps files to PDF on Windows server 2003. We are swithing to windows server 2008.
What can we replace the 6.0 distiller.that will give us the same functionality.

Sorry, I don't know the product. It has its own forum LiveCycle PDF Generator though it does not frankly seem very active. It is one of a class of enteprise server products all called LiveCycle something. I have read that these typically support a Java API and watched folders. PDF Generator comes in various editions, one which is little more than Distiller, but others accept a wide variety of input e.g. Office documents, and can export too.

There are dozens of similar applications. A good one to look at is Mind Your Own Business - MYOB. Another is MoneyDance.
Look for all of them at MacUpdate or CNET Downloads.

  • What can replace WinHelp?

I produce online help in WinHelp format that we attach to a
graphical-user-interface (GUI) overlay on our AS/400 applications.
When the application user clicks the Help button, the online help
opens to either the specific topic for that window or to the help
    system's Welcome page.
We would prefer to switch our help format to HTMLHelp (CHM
file), but cannot because of Microsoft Security Update 896358. Some
of our writers work on a server and some of our clients run
applications (and therefore Help) on a server, and the security
update, as some of you well know, will not allow CHM files to work
on a server (at least not without some registry editing, which our
software security people are not inclined to do).
If it is true, as I have been told, that WinHelp is
essentially a dying (if not dead) format, and we cannot use CHM,
what alternatives do we have? Is there anything else that can
replace WinHelp? I know about the relatively simple workarounds if
the CHM file is downloaded from the Internet, but that's not the
case with us; it is attached to the application itself.
Does anybody have any suggestions? They would be much
    appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Sara,
What I would do in your situation is to create a CHM file
that has all your content, but use the WinHelp 2000 viewer to
display the HTML topic in your WinHelp file on the right hand side.
You would have to code a topic-level macro to jump to the correct
topic in the CHM file. You will also need to distribue the CHM file
with your WinHelp projet files so, for example, if you have
APP1.HLP, you would also distribute APP1.CHM.
This approach does three things for you:
    1) it allows you to code your content in HTML while you wait
    for Dev to catch up
    2) it allows you to be ready for when Dev says, "we're
starting the conversion of our apps."
    3) it allows you to do the conversion to HTML in pieces. You
only have to add the topic-level macros to those topics that have
been converted to HTML. You can still have some topics in WinHelp.
I do this now for our internal help file and it works well.
When Dev changes, you will already have your content in HTML
and will only have to make changes that are based upon any
interface changes. Otherwise, you would have to code the HTML as
part of the conversion from WinHelp to HTML and also code the HTML
to adapt the changes that are made to the interface.
Hint: At the same time that you are creating the CHM file,
you should be coding your Index and building the TOC, even though
no one will see the TOC and Index until you are 100% using CHM
    files.

  • What can replace Appleworks database?

My non-profit business database has been on Appleworks forever! Mainly that means names and addresses and record of monthly contributions, from which I send a mail merge letter of acknowledgement to contributors each month. Now I have read that Appleworks will not work on Lion. If I understand correctly, Bento can’t do mail merge with auto fill-in of addresses and other personalized info. So what can I transfer all this info to? And HOW will I transfer years of records on my Appleworks database?

The only program with anything like the functionality of the AppleWorks database is FileMaker Pro. It's expensive, and has a steep learning curve, but can do almost anything the AW database can plus a good deal more. It's also pretty well the industry standard so it's not likely to go away.
However it can't import AW dateabases; you have to export them as ASCII text and import that, which means you will have to recreate layouts and calculation fields.

I've tried to find one in the MSI product list, but only the top end cards have video in. I really like this card - it's been good value.

  • What can replace zinio magazine app/how access magazines on playbook?

    Hi,
I would like to read a few magazines on my playbook but Zinio offers no cost savings off the sale price.   Is there some other app to use?  Rogers next issue doesn't work on playbook.

As for the adult-material censorship, things haven't changed one bit. The only "comforting" news is that (as I knew) Android devices are enforcing the same policy. I wrote to Zinio complaining about the issue, and asked them if they were not considering an alternative way of letting us read those magazines (such as complimentary pdf copy), and this was the quite brutal answer, that made me cancel my Zinio subscription.
Thank you for contacting Zinio Customer Support.
Apple, The Android Market, and other providers restrict adult content for mobile devices.  Until they eliminate these restrictions, Zinio cannot provide adult content for the iPhone, iPad, iPod touch or Android. Zinio is not considering any options for making the content available to mobile devices at this time.
I understand that this is not "their" problem not their fault, but still, there are a lot of services providing adult material for iOS devices, such as mobile friendly websites... and then apps such as goodreader or bookman allowing you to load whatever material you want...
Bottomline: on the one hand Apple are a bunch of hypcrites, favoring the "as long as you do it yourself" rule. I am not one of those making a lot of fuss about the way manufacturers treat their employees at Foxconn & co., but **** what, it is not moral to read adult magazines but it is moral to treat workers as slaves? I hardly think so...
On the other hand, distributors such as Zinio should make an effort to bypass Apple's silly regulations. I am sure that if they provide iOS users with a free copy (maybe don't make it super high quality, password protect it, I don't know) of adult-magazines they would prevent users from ditching their subscription and go for illegal pdf copies...

Have you recharge the battery for at least 2 hours, or just leave it connected for 4 hours?
(When you replaced the Hardisk, you should also replace the battery.)
Some other iPod SSD sites, says that you may have to format the CF in FAT32, as Mac dont read NTFS drive so if Windows is the 1st PC that your CF is connected, it may be formatted to NTFS.
You can try erasing the CF using Disk Utilty, so that Mac can recognise it. (but not Windows)

If iTunes purchases, delete and redownload by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
Otherwise delete and resync if they play OK in iTunes on the computer

Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

I replaced my hard drive and I backed up my files on an external hard drive but when I reloaded my iweb to my imac none of my files were on it so I can't make changes to my Published web site have I lost my files what can I do

By default iWeb keeps its data in (user)/Library/Application Support/iWeb in a file named Domain. Without this file you cannot proceed (other than by recreating the site from scratch using the published version as a reference) so you need to locate it on the original disk.
To confuse matters, Apple have hidden the user’s Library folder in Lion and Mountain Lion to casual viewers, in an attempt to stop new Mac users messing their machines up. To access it, in the Finder go to the ‘Go’ menu and hold down the Option (Alt) key; the Library folder will appear as a choice.

    Please I'll be thankfull.

I stated that I did try to do all of this when I first set up the new computer...I did do the Setup Assistant numerous times but my old computer kept freezing half way through.  Even if I did it when I first got the new computer back in Septemeber, I would have had the same issue b/c my old computer has been 'broken' for a while.  My old computer can't handle doing too much at once and I think the setup and then migration functions I tried were too much.  That's why I was hoping I could use the migration function piecemeal.  I wish I could just check off the exact files and folders I want vs. having to choose it at the 'user' level...that's too much for my old computer to have to transfer.
