What can the FIOS remote do?

My Comcast remote not only turned my TV on/off, volume, but got me into the TV menu to change input from cable to Wii to DVD. I can't get my FIOS HD remote to do this. Is this something it should do? I am having to use my TV remote to get into it's menu to switch to DVD or Wii. So to watch a DVD we have to use 3 remotes...TV, DVD and receiver. I've hunted online and it appears the remote may only turn TV on/off and do volume, not anything more related to the TV. It's a 1 yr old Samsung LCD/HD so it's not something old and out of date. There also doesn't seem to be a code to program the FIOS remote to our Sylvania LCD TV. Seems like since we're paying more per month for the FIOS remotes than the Comcast they should work better, not worse.

It depends on the brand of TV and DVD you have, how new they are, and what codes you have set in the remote for those devices. For example, I have a 4 year old Sony LCD and Sony DVD and my Verizon remote controls them both just fine.
It may be counterintuitive, but the newer the TV and DVD you have, I suspect the less likely the Verizon remote is to control them. That is because the remote has been available for several years, and as far as I know there is no way for Verizon or you to update the codes in them. So whatever it had when you got it is what you have available. Newer TVs and DVDs may use newer codes that are not in the remote.
However, don't give up yet. First, for most TV and DVD brands, there are multiple device codes listed. Even if you find one that turns the device on and off, there may be another code that does that and some other things, like control the input selection on the TV. So be sure you try all of the known codes for your brands, if you have not already done so. Here are links to Verizon web pages for TV and DVD players:
TV: http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSTV/Remote%20Controls/SetUp/QuestionsOne/122830.htm
DVD: http://www22.verizon.com/ResidentialHelp/FiOSTV/Remote%20Controls/SetUp/QuestionsOne/122859.htm
Some people have found some additional codes that will work for certain manufacturer's devices that are not listed here, I don't know what they are since I haven't needed them, but you can do some Google searches and probably find them.
Now, to the specific issue of controlling the input on your TV; have you used the A/V (Input) button (bottom left) on the remote to try to change the input? If not, do so, mine works for me on my Sony. Be sure to hit the TV button first before hitting the A/V button, because the signal is sent to the last device selected, which is usually the STB.
I hope this helps. If you do find some codes or buttons that do work, be sure to report back with that info so others can benefit from you knowledge.

  • What can the N800 do without an Internet Connectio...

The N800 appears to be a great Internet tool. But what can the N800 do without an Internet Connection? It appears dependent on the connection
In reading the User's Guide I am left wondering how much work can be accomplished when out of reach of the Internet???

With computing so Internet-centric, the N800 sounds pretty good, but two of my most valued programs won't run on it...and I do not know if there is are Quicken-like, Excel-like, Word-like programs for it.
I am traveling to less-traveled places in China this summer and hope to use it for online, in-country air travel reservations...and Skype out phone calls home.
But beyond that, it's a geek-toy...aren't we allowed to have as many toys as we want...it's just that I like to be able to justify my toys

  • What can the internal FireWire connector in a G4 be used for?

After opening the case of my 400 MHz G4 Sawtooth to look at the hard drives, I noticed a FireWire connector inside the machine. What can that FireWire connector be used for?
    Thank you.

  • Raid ... Exactly what can the RAID do with the TD230

    Hi,
Have a bunch of TD23013U's and the newer TD23019U's. They both come with RAID, Intel onboard and a LSI9240-8i.
Q: Out of the box, can the onboard Intel RAID do RAID 5 or is a separate key required for it (part no please and FRU number?).....I take it it can do RAID 0,1 out of the box. Is the key not supposed to come with the unit?
The LSI RAID card, can it do 0, 1, 5 without any additional key purchase? If it cannot do a raid 5, is it not supposed to part and parcel of a shipped unit?
    Thnx
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hello Hitesh,
The TD230 has the following RAID Setup...
    - SATA RAID 0, 1, 10 (Chipset)
    - SATA RAID 5 Key Needed (Chipset Optional)
    - SATA / SAS 0, 1, 10, 5 (HW)

  • Stolen iPhone, what can the thief do?

I was mugged last night and the thief took my iPhone 4S. I proceeded as follows:
    - Got in Find My iPhone on icloud, tried to locate it but couldn't. The thief must have turnt it off the minute he got it (it took me less than 10 minutes since the theft to logging in on icloud).
    - Sent a "Remote block" followed by a "Remote wipe" right after.
    - Called my carrier, locked the SIM and the phone using IMEI.
    - Reported it to the police.
    - Changed all my passwords.
The phone itself had a 4-digit password.
Now I'm left wondering what the thief can do/see with it. It looked to me as a common thug that just saw a chance at a fancy phone, but I'm still worried at what he might find out going through my contacts/mails/photos...

Was it locked with the passcode when they took it?  If so, they are effectively locked out (no known exploit to get around the passcode lock).  They can restore it in iTunes as new, but that removes all of your information, content and apps and sets it back to a new-device state.  Since your carrier offers IMEI locking, they cannot activate it on that network, but unless your country and/or all the carriers in it offer a coordinated IMEI blocking service, they may be able to activate it on another carriers network, although they may have to hack it if it is carrier locked (or still sell it in another country, where your IMEI block has no effect).
Regardless, the passcode lock will have kept your information safe, as long as the screen was locked when they took it.
If the screen was not locked when the snatched it then they had a few minutes at least (you said 10 or so) to puruse your information, but you've covered yourself there anyway by chaning passwords and such already.  If the device connects to the network long enough for it and the iCloud servers to establish communication, then your remote wipe would go through.  Unless, of course, in those first ten minutes they were able to go in and simply delete your iCloud account - no iCloud account, no iCloud settings, thus no find-my-iPhone enabled (did you have restrictions enabled, and did you disable allowing changes to accounts by chance?).
You sound like you have done your best to cover your back and protect your informatin.  Odds are they will already have restored the device as new, and either set it up on another network, or sold it off.

  • What can the iPad do that the iPad Touch cannot?

I've been thinking about buying an iPod Touch lately, but now I keep hearing about the iPad and it looks pretty neat. What exactly can it do that the iPod Touch cannot do?

It's a much bigger touch surface and it has a much faster processor which will allow for significantly more robust applications.. Apple's iWork apps for the iPad are a great example of the types of things developers will bring to the iPad which would never work on the iPhone or iTouch..

  • What can the file path tell me about a photo?

I am a Police Detective.  I used a Cellebrite UFED to dump an Iphone 4.  I am interested in a few images on the phone.  I'm curious what the file path can tell me about the image. I also noticed that there are two versions of each image, an original and another duplicate photo.  Here are the paths of the original photos -
    1. "Path: /PhotoStreamsData/1322802356/101APPLE/"
    2. "Path: /PhotoStreamsData/1322802356/101APPLE/"
Here are the paths of the dupplicate photos -
    1. "Path: /PhotoData/Thumbnails/V2/PhotoStreamsData/1322802356/101APPLE/IMG_1435"
    2. "Path: /PhotoData/Thumbnails/V2/PhotoStreamsDAta/1322802356/101APPLE/IMG_1436"
    Thanks in advance

You're not looking at original photos. You're looking at photos streamed to the phone from PhotoStream. They may or may not have been taken on the phone. They may have been taken or saved to another iOS device or to a Mac or PC, or they may have been shared with the owner of the phone.
The thumbnails are (obviously) thumbnails... small versions of photos scaled to view multiple pictures at once for easy navigation.
Basically, the information above tells you absolutely nothing of any value at all.

  • What can the form do in the real situation?

I am planing to learn form develop. But, I am wondering what the form can do in the real situation. I did not do such work before. So I do not know what the form can do in the real world.
Such as, in the all kinds of webpages, there are a lot of tables which include data from database. Are those tables made by oracle form ? what else can form do ? Basiclly, oracle form just develop tables and publish in the webpage? Is that correct?
    thanks

Forms can do lot of things. Question is, what do you want to do with it :)
Oracle forms is a very good tool in creating enterprise applications quickly and efficietly. It is very tightly coupled with the Oracle database.
It's not only web pages, where this is used. We've our own interconnect manager product, (used for network billing) developed entirely in oracle forms.
Only thing, it lacks is a little bit of look and feel which can also be significantly enhanced using java beans etc.
So, tell me if u want to develop a particular thing and then may be we can tell if, if it is possible to do using forms or not?

  • What is the best remote database for connet IOS App and how to do that ..

    Hello ...
I'm new to Mac as well as ios developments.. Kindly anyone tell me, Is it possible to connect IOS app to remote database. If yes .. may I know what kind of databases available for this. And what kind of steps we have to follow when we code IOS app for connect remote database.
Your response would be highly appreceated.
    Thank you.
    Iranga

Ideally, you need a REST server to connect to your remote database. There are many frameworks like Jackson and Jersey that are reasonable alternatives but it does require too much effort. One of my friends work at a startup that just came up with a way to get RESTful API to any of the SQL databases. You may want to try it out and see if it works for you at EspressoLogic.

  • My Mac book pro has the end of a earphone stuck to it. After this I updated to maverick, and this massively slowed down my computer. Now my laptop is switching on and logging in just fine, but after logging in the screen goes white. What can the reason be?

At first my laptop was fine after the earphone end got stuck in. Soon it started getting slower, and suddenly it stopped switching on. The people in the service station said that it wAs because the hard disk drive was corrupted. I came back home, and immediately it stopped working again. This time they said it was because of water spill. They changed the entire key board and then it started working for a while. Later I updated to maverick and that slowed down my computer. Once, I switched on my laptop, logged in, and then the screen went white. When we took it to the service center they said they will need to replace the hard disk. I am not sure what I should do. Any suggestions?

Liquid damage from water spill is progressive, unfortunately.
    Best.
