What causes ipad storage almost full message

I get a "storage almost full" message.  Information in Settings, indicates I have plenty of space.  What could cause this?

How much space is Other using? You may be able to reduce.
How Do I Get Rid Of The “Other” Data Stored On My iPad Or iPhone?
http://tinyurl.com/85w6xwn
With an iOS device, the “Other” space in iTunes is used to store things like documents, settings, caches, and a few other important items. If you sync lots of documents to apps like GoodReader, DropCopy, or anything else that reads external files, your storage use can skyrocket. With iOS 5/6, you can see exactly which applications are taking up the most space. Just head to Settings > General > Usage, and tap the button labeled Show All Apps. The storage section will show you the app and how much storage space it is taking up. Tap on the app name to get a description of the additional storage space being used by the app’s documents and data. You can remove the storage-hogging application and all of its data directly from this screen, or manually remove the data by opening the app. Some applications, especially those designed by Apple, will allow you to remove stored data by swiping from left to right on the item to reveal a Delete button.

  • Storage almost full message on iPad

    Hi there,
I used my iPad on a recent holiday to store my photos and videos and pretty much filled it up. I've now transferred most of the photos and at least half of the video clips onto my Mac so should have freed up over half of the space on my iPad but am still getting  a 'Storage almost full message'. When I look at the usage it shows PhotoMgrPro, where I store my images, as taking up 55.2GB which is definately not the case. What can I do?

Many thanks. Having Googled 'how to empty the trash' on an iPad and seen over and over again that there is no trash can as such on an iPad I was really confused as to why I was deleting photograph and video files but not freeing any more space. I've since found out that the app I use, Photo Manager Pro, does have a trash can and it was overflowing. Some of the files in there go back nearly a year! No wonder the poor iPad was telling me it had no space. So now I've emptied that trash and am up and running again. Thanks again,
    Sue

  • Storage almost full message on iPhone and iPad

    Hi,
I searched the forum already and didn't quite find an answer so I thought I would post this (sorry if I missed something and this has already been posted!).
    Background:
    - My wife and I both have the iPhone 4S 16GB and we also have an IPod 2 32GB.
    - My iPhone and our iPad both have the most recent iOS updates
    - My wife and I share an iTunes account
    - We have an iTunes Match subscription and are currently right around the 25,000 song limit. My iPhone and our iPad are the only devices with iTunes Match enabled though
    Problem:
I recently managed to convince my wife to update to iOS 7 and have all the latest updates as well. It seems that ever since then we've been getting a "Storage almost full" message on all of our devices.
I restored both of our phones to factory recently so there's literally nothing on them except for a few pictures now and some apps. The iPad has nothing on it except for iCloud pictures and some music.
The Storage almost full message does go away if we restart the afflicted device.
Any insight would be appreciated since it's pretty annoying to be constantly restarting our iPhones or iPad!

Sadly this is a bug that I have been able to relicate on 3 different devices, and that has NOT been fixed by 7.1.2
To replicate, you need an "oldish" device (iPhone 4 & 4S, iPad 2 & Mini), and an iTunes match subscription with quite a few songs.
    Start from a clean slate:
    - Switch off iTunes match (settings / apps store or music)
    - Kill all apps
    - Reboot
    - Reset (home +power until apple appears)
Check available space on settings / general / about
    Then:
    - Activate iTunes match
    - Play some non locally stored music
    - Wait
Yesterday, it took 1h for my iPad mini with 5.3GB available to show the "storage almost full" message and 0 bytes available
Note that I have tried with a full reset and it does not change anything.
    To solve the problem:
    - Switch off iTunes match
    - Reset
The memory is now back (but I cannot use iTunes match)

  • "storage almost full" message

My wife's iPhone 4 started showing the "Storage Almost Full" message repeatedly. The following actions have been taken:
    1. Deleted iCloud backup for the phone. - Not Fixed
    2. Restored phone - Not Fixed
    3. Bought brand new iPhone 5 and restored from backup - Problem is now on the new phone.
This is obviously an issue with the OS. What is the fix?
My next course of action is to factory restore the iPhone 5 and remove all traces of the backups from the iPhone 4. In the process we are going to lose lots of data that is very important.

    riegertml wrote:
    1. Deleted iCloud backup for the phone. - Not Fixed
Why?  This is completely illogical.  The iCloud backup has nothing to do with the message being displayed.
    riegertml wrote:
    2. Restored phone - Not Fixed
Again, why?  There is completely illogical. Restoring does not remove content from the device.
    riegertml wrote:
    3. Bought brand new iPhone 5 and restored from backup - Problem is now on the new phone.
Again, why?  If  the same backup is restored to a device of the same capacity the same "Storage full" message will appear.
    riegertml wrote:

No, it simply and obviously is not.
    riegertml wrote:

Replace the user with one that can read and comprehend the message.

Why?  So more time and effort can be wasted?
Stop being dense.  Connect the iPhone to the computer. Open iTunes.
Manage the content being synced to the device via iTunes.

I have an iphone 3GS and suddenly am getting a "storage almost full message" even though I have 1.4 GB of free space. Now I cannot text.  How do I trouble shoot this? I recently upgraded to version 6.1.3 if that helps.

When you sync using iTunes on your computer, do you see a lot of "Other" at the bottom of the iTunes Summary Page for your iPhone?  If you do, try a "Restore iPhone ...".  That should help.
Hopefully that would do it for you.  If not, the next (more drastic) step would be to restore again as above, but choose "Restore as New" and then manually sync.  Omit any apps that might be suspcious in their space use (primarily Game Center apps).

  • HT4859 Storage almost full message

"Storage almost full message appears" even though I have plenty according to usage. I was low and removed my music to get more but the warning is still there and I can't open some apps such as Facebook. Is there a way to defragment or another solution?  I have tried restarting.

If you have pleanty of free space I'm not sure why you would continue to get this warning, although you're not the first person to report this problem.  I'm not sure if it will help but you might try deleting your most recent iCloud backup by turning off iCloud Backup in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup, then tap Manage Storage, swipe across your backup and tap Delete, then go back and turn iCloud Backup back on and back up again.  This may refresh the storage warning and stop it from happening.

  • Movies on ipad will not play - get the storage almost full message?

I have a number of movies on my ipad showing in Videos, most on stored on icloud (i think).  I can start playing the movies but within a few seconds they stop and I get a message say "Storage Almost Full".  I thought by storing the movies in the cloud I am saving space on my ipad and can access and play those movies any time.  What am I doing wrong?

  • Why am I receiving a "storage almost full" message when I have lots of storage?

My I phone 4 keeps sending message "Storage Almost Full"  I have 4,8 GB available and 1.5 used. I have read other threads but nobody has provided the solution that I can see. Deleting photos and apps doesn't work. I think it has something to do with the Cloud but I turned it off and deleted a backup. My video doesn't work well and the battery is being used up too fast. I don't want to store on the cloud or purchase more storage. Someone said that didn't work anyway. Please help! Thanks!

    Hello kiphoneb,
Thank you for posting in the Apple Support Communities.  It sounds like you are repeatedly getting a message "Storage Almost Full," but your phone is only has 4.8 GB of data on it.  This message usually comes up when you are reaching the limits of your iCloud storage.  You do not have to purchase additional storage, and can use iTunes to backup your iPhone instead.
You can find the steps to backup in this article under iTunes>How to backup

  • Getting "storage almost full message"

    I've deleted all apps I don't use.
I've turned off the photo stream, although the icloud has lots and lots of storage left.
I don't know how to eliminate music I'm not using from iPhone
I just upgraded to 5.1.1 - not intentionally, but it's done.
How do I fix the storage issue?
    Peggy

    Basic neophyte here.
Other than deleting the apps by clicking the "x" and emptying the trash in emails and messages, is there some other thing to do to delete items from iphone?
oh, and thank you so much for responding.

  • Storage almost full warning since upgrading to 7.1.1 Help?

Hello, I have an 8GB iPhone 4 and I have been getting the "storage almost full" warning for the last couple of days. It only began after upgrading to 7.1.1. I've done a hard reset/restore twice and the message keeps coming back. I generally keep at least 1GB free and after attempting to only put 3GB of music back on the phone it happened again. Please help!

  • Storage Almost Full on iPad

How do I fix the pop-up message, "Storage Almost Full" on my iPad? I just upgraded my iCloud storage plan to 20 GB and the error message is still popping up every 5 minutes or so. I even tried turning my iCloud backup off and that didn't work either. I don't know what to do and I'm completely frustrated. :-/ Anyone have any suggestions?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
What exactly does the message say, is it referring to iCloud storage or to physical storage on your device.

  • I am getting a "storage nearly full" message, can i remove my aol email from ipad to make more room"

I am getting a "storage nearly full" message on Ipad. i have only 1 added app, so i am guessing what is taking up the room are photos and emails. I don't want to get rid of the emails, and I am happier getting emails online at aol, so can i get rid of the aol app?

Hi Go to settings Email account, Delete Aol Account Save details, in case you want it back later. But the most space is taken up by photos. Also you need to upgrade to  iOS 8.1.1 If you have problems back up to iCloud Then do a factory, restore you will get your apps& Data back, if you use the same Apple ID & Password. Cheers Brian

  • "Storage Almost Full" icon continuously pops up with almost full available storage on iphone 4. What does this mean?

I've had my Iphone 4 for almost two years. The "Storage Almost Full" icon started to pop up continuously just yesterday, and it hasn't stopped even after deleting almost everything off my phone. It also won't allow me to send messages, or completely clear conversations. And it says "cleaning" on my apps constantly and repeatedly to the same apps. I've tried restarting it, backing it up, restoring it, backing it up again and nothing has worked at all. Is there any way I can get rid of this problem without restoring my phone to it's factory settings and deleting everything? I have a lot of important notes, dates, and contacts that would take a ton of time to put back in, and I want to avoid doing that if I can. Help, please!

I was able to free up 4GB of space by deleting my email account. You can always add your email account again.
This method will delete all saved attachments and data in your iPhone's internal memory.

  • Why do I get "Storage almost full" warnings with multiple Gb free?

I have a 32Gb iPad Mini (running latest OS updates and all current apps), and keep getting "Storage Almost Full" warnings, even when I have 3, 4 or 5Gb free space (according to desktop sync)?

About all I use it for when I get these errors  is reading a book. No apps are running other than iBooks. I happens before and after a power-off.
I'm going to see if I can hunt down a good memory reporting app to see if I can find out what's going on...
