What causes these lines?

The wraparound cover OP is back with another question. In the help files I found this: "If your artwork contains transparency, ask your prepress service provider if they want to receive flattened or unflattened PDF files. Flattening should be done as late in the workflow as possible, preferably by the service provider. However, if your service provider wants you to flatten transparency, submit a PDF/X‑1a compliant file."
Since the print-on-demand service does request flattened files, I decided to try it. The cover looks very nice with one exception: the title on the back cover has faint lines around it as shown in the screen grab below. None of the other text has them. Can I fix this in the native file so they won't appear? Thanks

My guess is those are "stitching," the transparency flattening artifacts we've mentioned before, but I've never seen them in red before. These artifacts are the primary reason I've been telling you not to flatten if at all possible. They generally don't appear in high resolution prints like those on a press, but usually do show on digital output which is lower resolution. The only way you will know is to see a proof.
The only thing you can do to avoid these is to leave the transparency live (don't flatten).

    Can anyone explain why I get an extra line in the results of the following sql

    is there anyway to get rid of blank line?
    Thanks

    Hmmm...not sure. I think SQL Plus is doing it. Possibly because it doesn't know you've added a "built in" carriage return.
    Doing this from within pl/sql gives the expected results:
    SQL> begin
      2     for c in (select       'test1'||chr(10)|| 'test1' x from dual
      3               union select 'test2'||chr(10)|| 'test2' x from dual) loop
      4     dbms_output.put_line(c.x);
      5     end loop;
      6  end;
      7  /
    test1
    test1
    test2
    test2
    PL/SQL procedure successfully completed.(yep, Odie63 has the right answer)

  • What are these lines around a table?

    Probably a basic question, but I've run across something in
    Dreamweaver that is a little maddening...
    When I create tables with 0 cellpadding or cell spacing, I'm
    still getting hairline "borders" around my table cells - if anyone
    can see the problem (I'm sure it's simple), please enlighten me.
    Here's the page example:

  • What caused the alarm bugs?

    Hi
    I'm wondering, as a programmer, what caused these alarm bugs?
    If I remember correctly the first bug (i.e. an hour out when the clocks went forward) was caused by the alarm referencing a server clock as opposed to the phones own clock. I find it hard to believe this would be "accidental" as only a complete cabbage would code it that way and clearly Apple don't employ cabbages ;o)
    Cheers
    MArk

    Agreed... I've written dozens (perhaps even hundreds) over the years ;o) What's got me interested is the fact that such a simple bug got through and wasn't present the previous year. There must have been a fairly significant change to code that was not broken.

  • What causes vertical color lines on ipad2 and how do you remove them ?

    What causes vertical color lines on an IPad. And how do you remove them ?

    Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    If still present: Take it to an Apple Store for evaluation.

    Don't believe it's a factor, but you should update your iOS.
    If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.1.3. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

    iOS: How to update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4623
    If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
    Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily.  Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
    Tip 2 - If you're updating via wifi, place your iPad close to your router to preclude getting a corrupted download.

    Take a screen shot & view that in Preview, move the Preview window around, if you see double lines it's a Video card/VRAM problem, if the lines do not move moving the pic around then it's the LCD or cable.

  • What could've caused these marks on the casing?

    Hi forum.
    I've recently given back the Powerbook G4 I was using on my old job. Being depressingly Mac-less, I'm buying a new MBP.
    On my old one, I managed to leave behind some interesting and very odd looking marks on both sides of the touchpad. In a wide area presumably where the pawn of my hands were resting evolved a bunch of marks that could look kind of like acid burns.
    I would really like to think my hands are not dissecting acid, and further not like to cause these marks on my new MacBookPro.
    I'm therefore looking for someone who has seen something like this before, and has some tips and hints on what could be causing it, and how to prevent it.
    See some pictures of it:

    Isn't this funny.
    You buy a MBP, and think it is a nice machine, and the next moment you have to realize that all the design just reduces functionalty to be ridiculous...
    Why using such an finish for an object that is being used with your hands... next you will probably be able to buy the super iGloves not to scratch or harm you MBP ("others buy ugly magnesium computers, but you have the chance to look great with your novel iGloves and your shiny aluminium case").
    Hey come on Apple, design is good but functionnality is first. You are really fooling your customers. By the way, shouldn't design take care of the fact that transportable computer may be droped once in a while? I better not imagine how this computer looks like afterwards.
    Well hopefully they will start again one day to change their goals.

  • My early 2011 MBP 17 started showing a thin vertical red line one inch from the left edge of the screen. Does anyone know what causes this problem?

    Does anyone know what causes a thin vertical red line on the display?

    There is a problem with the display or the connection to the display.  Take it to an Apple store genius bar for a definitive diagnosis.  The diagnosis will be free, any repairs will not be free.
    Ciao.

    Are the lines like psychedelic herringbone?  If yes, I had that happen once, it was something serious, like the
    Logic board. The good news is that it was fixed without any loss of data on the hard drive. Take it in to have Apple look at it ASAP.  I took it to TekServe at the time, they are very nice about preserving your data and user library when possible.
    Good luck and don't panic.

  • What is causing these bubbles in the screen?

    I noticed a couple of bubbles appear in the screen on my iPhone 3g but they've multiplied and now there are five of them.
    I use a leather case with flap to cover the screen, I daren't let it anywhere near moisture and I can't see how my use could cause bubbles. They are about a cm lower than the volume control on the left hand side or on the left hand side of the space bar when typing in landscape mode. They are there all the time but easier to see when the screen is all one colour or off.
    Am I causing these bubbles? If so how and what can I do to stop the spread? I will be off my feet for another 4+ months so kinda rely on my iPhone for company.
    I'm laid up at the minute and can't get to a computer but I'll upload a pic to flickr in ten minutes or so

    Ok I've uploaded a picture of a picture of the bubbles (don't have the computer access while I'm laid up with broken foot at my mothers)
    the pic is at www.flickr.com/photos/squareoftheyear I took the pic on my 400d then took a pic of the cameras screen with the iPhone and uploaded it using the flickr app available from the app store
