What changes do i need to do to a home router in order to use facetime?

I have problems connecting to specific house wifi routers (parents and inlaws). With my brother i use facetime with no issues so i know facetime is not the issue.
With my parents or inlaws, they never receive my facetime calls and a lot of times i get "user s nit available for facetime" or it rings and rings until i get a n/a message. When they call me, i do receive the mesage and when i hit the accept button, it says conecting but it never does. (they have a weekend home eith another router and works perfect). So it must be the wifi router settings in their main home.

Read through this article (especially the section on routers).

  • What ports do I need to open in a home router to support Screen Sharing?

I'm trying to support my 88 year-old dad who has totally messed up his iMac.  We're both running 10.6.8.  I went ahead and bought the Easy Remote Desktop app from the app store, since I don't need a heavy-duty admin tool, just to see and to remotely manipulate his screen.  I tested it on my home LAN with my wife's computer and it works great.  I did have to find out her IP address, and she did have to turn on Screen Sharing services open to just me first.  The downside for Screen Sharing vs. Remote Administration is that there is no announcement that you're there.
So I'm thinking that I can just type in my dad's IP address.  Of course he has a DSL router and probably has a DHCP address, so I found out about Dynamic DNS, and located a free Dynamic DNS service.  I've already established (the functional equivalent of) a static IP for myself with this service, and I'm thinking the next step is to talk my dad through doing the same for himself.  Then the next hurdle I think would be to talk him through opening the Screen Sharing service on his Mac, and to add me as a user.  But the final hurdle I think would be to open inbound ports for Screen Sharing from my IP address.  Since Screen Sharing is a native Mac OS function, I figure this is the place to ask that question.  And to ask if I'm on the right track here...

    Screen Sharing uses port 5900.
However, I'm going to suggest that you use TeamViewer.com as it will deal with all the networking issues much more easily and without needing to worry about opening ports in your router.

  • I have a Mac connected to Internet via DSL modem. Just bought iPad (today). What hardware do I need to set up wireless LAN so iPad can be used anywhere in house? Will Linksys work with Apple?

I have a Mac connected to Internet via DSL modem. Just bought an iPad2 and need to know what hardware do I need to add wireless LAN so I can use iPad anywhere in the house. Will a Linksys router work with Apple? Can Mac be "hardwired" and iPad wireless? Probably stupid questions but I need to learn. Thanks.

Thanks for the info. You are correct. I was speaking in general terms here based on my experience with the two devices in day to day use, and not in terms of exact specifications.
A better choice would have been to say that the "coverage" is about the same with the edge going to the Extreme....due to the newer mutliple antenna design.
We sure could use more help on the forums. Hope that you will become a regular.
    Hi Bob
RF is a minefield, but one that I have worked in for ages, the most critical factor in my experience is location, location, location!
Better routers have more intelligently designed antenna systems, output power as I said is the same, radiation pattern (coverage) is dependent on antennas and physical location more than all other factors.

  • Need to pass in line charges when cancel order line using API?

    Hi,
Do we need to pass in line charges (charges, freight cost) when cancel order line using Oe_Order_Pub.Process_Order API?

I found the answer to my own question:
Yes it is a supported feature. It is documented on the following page:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlatform/reference/actionscript/3/flash/desktop/NativeApp lication.html#event:invoke
When you subscribe to the invoke event of the NativeApplication it will subsequently dispatch the event and you read the e.arguments Array object to get the startup arguments passed into the native application.

  • What equipment do i need to set-up a home editing station?

i have been approached by my job to do some editing for them. they are going to pay for me to take a final cut pro class (i graduated from film school in 1998 - right before the big switch was made from flat beds to AVID). Any suggestions of the kind of mac i would need, memory, loading footage, playback monitor, screen, etc?
    Thanks.

What kind of format will you be working with?
    HD? HDV????? DV? Beta?
I'd buy the biggest baddest mac you can afford - 2 gigs memory is fine unless you can swing 4. Fill the 4 bays with at least 500gig drives (but....)
The rest will depend on what format you will be using.

  • Have thunderbolt and need to sync ical with google calendar in order to use.  Any suggestions?

Have a thunderbolt and MacBook.  Need to sync ical with google calendar as thunderbolt supports google calendar.  Any suggestions?

I think we may be talking about two different things. Thunderbolt is the new two way display port on Mac Book Pros and Apple displays.
Thunderbolt (originally codenamed Light Peak) is an interface for connecting peripheral devices to a computer via an expansion bus. Thunderbolt was developed by Intel and brought to market with technical collaboration from Apple Inc. It was introduced commercially on Apple's updated MacBook Pro lineup on February 24, 2011.
Thunderbolt combines PCI Express and DisplayPort into a serial data interface. A single Thunderbolt port supports hubs as well as a daisy chain of up to seven Thunderbolt devices; up to two of these devices may be high-resolution displays using DisplayPort. You can move data to and from peripherals up to 20 times faster than with USB 2.0 and up to 12 times faster than with FireWire 800.

  • Do I need to plug an AirPort into my router in order to use AirPrint.

I am thinking about purchasing an airport express.
I know that if I want to use airport with a printer that is not airprint compatible, I need to plug the airport express into it via USB.
Do I also need to plug the airport express into my Wi-Fi router?

An AirPort Express can extend an AirPort network (created by an AirPort Extreme or Express), but not necessarily any other brand's network. (It might work with some offbrand network somewhere, but most do not have the right software to support the AirPort-style extended network.)
However, an AirPort Express can join (become a client of) any standard wifi network (if the bands match) and pass data through to the ethernet port, pass print data out the USB port, or pass audio out the audio port.

It depends on the app. Some apps require internet access and some don't.

  • Why would I need to pay for a ringtone twice in order to use it on my iPhone 6 plus?

I bought two different Lynyrd Skynyrd ringtones, and both are on my MBP. Only was showed up on my 6 plus. I tried a physical sync with no luck. I finally had to buy the one ringtone AGAIN to have it on my iPhone. After buying this a second time, it worked the FIRST morning, but not this morning. This morning  it gave me the Radar (default alarm), even though it was set for the opening riff of "Sweet Home Alabama".
    Why????

  • When working with aRGB images, what changes must be made when printing?

Working in the Adobe RGB color space requires that all components in the chain (camera, software, monitor, printer) be able to handle aRGB. When printing from Photoshop Elements, what changes (if any) need to be made at printing time?

    Thanks Michel.
I knew about the "more options" dialog box and use it regularly to set
ICC profiles for my Canon Pro9500 Mark II printer, ensuring also that
"Photoshop Elements manages colors". I could have asked the question
better perhaps: "When working with aRGB images, how can I set both an
ICC printer profile for a specific paper and ensure that printer uses
the aRGB color space?". As far as I can tell, you can set an aRGB
profile (either in Photoshop or at the level of the printer), but you
can't use both the aRGB profile and an ICC paper profile at the same
time. I am assuming that you can't set an ICC profile for the paper in
Photoshop Elements and at the same time use the printer's aRGB driver.
    Is that right?
    Craig.

If you feel you have received this message in error. Please contact your System Administrator, or try again at a later time.

I am able to get to the Ashford University login display with no difficulties with both Firefox and Safari.  Obviously without a student password I cannot go any further.  If you can do the same, then clearly the problem is at the other end.  If that is the same case with you, then there is no advice that I can give you but to stir the pot as best you can.
